"Faster - this "stueynet" fellow will brook no delay!"

Well, it had to happen – desperate to acquire articles not being supplied by his delinquent writing staff ( i.e,  me ), stueynet turned to some kind of overseas writing sweatshop for content.

Here in all it’s unedited glory is the piece, originally titled: A Decade of Gaming: Graphical Simplicity Emulsified.

The game play and graphical intricacies of games from a decade ago have been shown to be top of the line and state of the art. As time progressed, the value of two dimensional graphics shifted and the newer three dimensional graphics with even more realistic portrayals of how something from the virtual world would look to us in the real world. These new graphical elements changed the world over but game play seemed to be somewhat similar to those games that preceded them. Without representation of creative elements that are newly introduced in the gaming business, you will not succeed correct? The answer is not really, and many people enjoy the advancements in gaming with a classical feel added in for even greater experience in the simplified but updated gaming world.

Modern Creativity Using Previous Ideas

Some legendary games have had an interesting run throughout the console histories. For example, the Street Fighter series developed by Capcom has simplistic graphical elements when first released. Even though the game play has changed somewhat throughout time and new characters are added into the mix, until the elements of three dimensional graphics for certain systems allowed for three dimensional versions of the Street Fighter series. This is all put in contrast to the latest installment in the series Street Fighter Four, which uses three dimensional, cell shaded models that are similar to the original pixilated characters of our past. Although they are very different, the models prove that older ideas seemingly fit within today’s newer and more powerful processing technologies.

Evolution of Gaming Graphics and Player Preference

Even though many other companies are striving to make your experience with their games as realistic as possible, some artsy games make it through the variable walls of standardizations. It turns out that lower amounts of graphical complexity allows for more focus on game play and storyline elements to brew and possibly create better games than those of companies taking decades to produce masterpieces that seem outdated when they finally meet their cut and release. From the depths of low resolution renderings blown up to the size of your television or computer screens to the high definition cutting edge visual displays of today and the future, gaming will always have a few masterpieces released in older but fitting graphical styles that prove to blow away the gamers each and every time.

Many of the individuals who play console and computer games will agree that the newest and resource heavy games are amazing to behold, especially when they have the hardware to play on the grandest scale. This is true to the fact that great graphics offer a feast for the eyes, but they may create a story and game play that is lacking and not well balanced. Even seasoned gamers will agree that staying true to the series or working from a basis that has proven to be a success. As in the fighting genre and Street Fighter Series, it just plain works.

Adding new elements to old ideas is a gaming favorite and marketers know to stay true to the trend to allow for maximum revenue. Also, who wants to relearn something from scratch? Many gamers hate the concepts of playing games that are cutting edge and learning things from a new perspective. Why not make games user friendly and allow them to just transition without a hitch? Sure, it may seem like it might cause a bore, but spending hours to learn how to play in a way that is not just pushing random buttons on any game which features interactivity is an honor that all gamers have a preference toward.
