I love this game. There, I've said it. the limmited intellegence/fog of war rules are very well done. The system is much more graceful than BF2. Easyer and a better simulation of mass warfare than BF2.

I really own Battleforce 2 but the game play is about the same. If you like battletech or the new term is Classic Battletech(CBT) then you will probably like this. The units are VERY scaled down form CBT but its still a fun game.

Not quite as fun as Battletech but a good way to play larger scenarios quickly. The hidden composition is also a great mechanic.

I really like this game. I love its attempt to bring varying levels of intelligence to the battlefield with its hidden counters. I also love the fact you can build your own platoons of mechs by plugging the battletech stats into the builder to get your group.
I think the general rules for this system would do well at all manner of war simulations at this scale.

I am willing to trade or sell my copy of Battleforce. Before I mail it to you, I will take the rulebook and photocopy it and keep the copy. I will send you the orginal rule book.

Honestly, this game only really requires a rule book. The counters can be made by anybody out of thin cardboard, and the hex map is a common thing found in any hex-game and isn't anything special.

Mech bashing at this scale is somehow more fun than the tedious marking off circles of the Battle Tech game. I also like the big scale planetary campaigns game. I own Battleforce 2 (the 2nd edition)

Another nice part of the Battletech system, for those who want to deal with larger units than lances or companies.

I haven't seen the second edition. The first edition is a nostalgic favorite, with a wonderfully clever "stratego-like" system of hidden abilities.

Basic concept was great, but there werent enough of some of the counters in the mix. Hard to do scenarios when you dont have enough standies of types needed. But I liked the basic idea. I dont think they supported it well, since it wouldnt increase sales of minis.

This game was interesting in concept, but the unit markers are ugly and hard to use. Part of the charm of Battletech is using miniatures to represent your forces, and this system makes that impossible.

Quite fiddly if you ask me. Also the small print on the units makes it kind of hard to follow properly. Kind of cool seeing all those units out at a time though.

I would love to play this more. Nobody else is as into the BT universe as I am in my current game group though so it never ever hits the table. Plus the cheapo upright counters are way too physically fiddly.

Battleforce 1 was the first game I ever bought, with money I'd been saving up for months; I was looking to buy an RPG, but couldn't resist the cool robots on the cover. Have fond memories of it; I even programmed a software in BASIC that would let you pick the individual mechs you wanted for each unit and give you the appropriate BF stats for the counter. However, after I bought Battletech, this almost never came out again; it's very bland compared with BT, plus combats with individual mechs/vehicles were much appropriate as part of Mechwarrior, which ended up being the first RPG I bought.

Misses the allure of the main game: the attributes of the individual mechs. Feels like a very weak wargame instead of a mech slugfest.

Poor attempt at an operational level battletech game. Generally uninteresting and not particularly fun. There didn't appear to be any advantage whatsoever to the medium or light units, so everyone would take the heavy units.

This is a tragic game... tragic because the Battletech genre is so good and this game has none of the feel of Battletech.
It falls down in a number of areas, one being the fact that a number of lances can walk up to a defending unit and shoot the stuffing out of it before it even gets a chance to shoot back.
One side moves all its forces then the other side moves all its forces is also very un-Battletech.

This game had so much potential and fails to be worth playing at all.

This was BattleTech simplified, sorta. You have the Mechs, and they have levels of damage, but the sucky part is, after they get hit, their firepower is almost useless - they are basically reduced to cannon fodder with one hit, no matter what type of mech they are, which seems unbalanced and adding too much of a luck element. I don't know, maybe I didn't play it enough to get the point, but I like the way the computer-created sheets with the software Heavy Metal Pro work better. Heavy Metal Pro also simplifies BattleTech but not the point of stupidity or reducing it to being more luck based. I'm keeping this more out of nostalgia and love for a good friend than actual plans to play it again.
