Ishaku is a poncle (sprite) and was the sixth Celestial Envoy, companion of Ōkami Shuranui, grandfather of Issun, author of the Travel Journals, and chief of the poncle village in Kamui. His eyes have gone bad in his old age but this hasn’t prevented him from teaching whatever poncles he could how to paint in order to keep the humans faith in the gods strong. Unlike his grandson Issun, Ishaku seems to be unable to understand Ōkami Amaterasu and believes her to just be ignoring him. Ishaku has the ability to open time rifts. The first time he used this ability was with Ōkami Shuranui a hundred years ago to travel to the present day to assists Shuranui’s reincarnation Ōkami Amaterasu in battle. He later joins up with and uses his abilities to assist Shuranui’s child Chibiterasu in battle.
After an intense disagreement or argument over an unmentioned matter Issun quit his apprenticeship with Ishaku and took off with Ishaku’s painting of Sakuya claiming it to be his own. Issun vowed never to paint again and never returned to his village. Ishaku initially denied having a grandson but later admitted to worrying about where Issun had run off too. Ishaku is proud and seems to have forgiven Issun upon receiving word of Issun having become the seventh Celestial Envoy and laying eyes on Issun’s beautiful brushwork.
