The Khajiit are a sentient, anthropomorphic, feline race that hail from the province of Elsweyr. They are known for their intelligence, agility, speed, natural aerobatic talents, ability to see in the dark, and are unmatched in fist fights/unarmed combat. They have gained a reputation as thieves and assassins, both fields their naturally well suited for but are not particularly gifted in the magical arts and require more strenuous training to do so than other races.
Their homeland of Elsweyr is split with its southern jungles inhabited by city-dwellers with mercantile traditions and an agrarian aristocracy based in the export of saltrice and Moon Sugar. The dry northern wastes and grasslands are inhabited by nomadic tribes known for their aggression and rule under a single chieftain.
The Khajiit were once kept as slaves alongside the Argonians by the Dunmer (dark elf) in the province of Morrowind. Slavery has since been banned in all of Tamriel and the slaves freed. Khajiit have been stereotyped by other races as "druggies" for their love and addiction to moon sugar and it's refined form skooma, both of which play a large part in their daily lifes. Moon sugar is washed ashore by the Topal Sea in their homeland of Elsweyr and the Khajiit believe it to be "crystallized moonlight" and that by consuming it they are consuming a part of the twin gods. Moon sugar makes its user feel fits of ecstasy and abandon while skooma leaves its users addicted for life and in alternating states of euphoria and lethargy. Because of their large consumption of moon sugar Khajiit have a high tolerance to it and those from Elsweyr have developed a 'sweet-tooth'.
There are many 'sub-species' or 'breed' of Khajiit which have appeared through out the Elder Scrolls.
