Kabegami (Wall God) is the Celestial Brush God of Walls and the Celestial Brush Technique Catwalk (kabe-ashi, Wall-Walk) which grants the ability to climb vertical surfaces. She takes the form of a cat sitting vertically on a painting with a koi atop the frame and hid among the constellations to escape the evil of the world below but was revealed when others managed to climb her tower, reaching equally immense heights. She is one of many of the original brush gods from Ōkami to not return in Ōkamiden.
The thirteen Celestial Brush Techniques are each a different brush stroke, mark, or symbol capable of controlling the time, elements, environment, ect as "good brush work has its own soul" and have taken on the form of one of the Chinese zodiac animals. They are born of and wielded by the sun goddess Amaterasu for whom they hold great respect as their ‘mother’. Anyone can use the Celestial Brush Techniques but years of practice are needed to master them unlike Amaterasu who is the only one known to have and been able to possess all thirteen techniques. A Celestial Brush Technique can be canceled out by drawing the same symbol over it.
"The feline form is an inviting one... Walls are not obstacles..." -Madame Fawn
The cat does not exist in the Chinese Zodiac. According to legend the rat tricked the cat by telling her he would wake her up from her nap in time to be accepted. However when the cat fell asleep the rat took her place instead. This is why cats and rats are mortal enemies.
Alternately the Vietnamese zodiac substitutes the cat for the rabbit in the regular twelve-animal cycle.
