Gekigami (God of Onslaught) is the Celestial Brush God of Thunderstorms and the Celestial Brush Technique Thunderstorm (Jin-rai, Thunderclap) which grants the ability to use electricity. He takes the form of a hot-tempered tiger with a bow on his back and hid among the constellations to escape the evil of the world below but was revealed by a lightning blast that tore through the obscuring darkness. He is one of the few original brush gods from Ōkami to return in Ōkamiden but his children are the ones who speak to Chibiterasu.
The thirteen Celestial Brush Techniques are each a different brush stroke, mark, or symbol capable of controlling the time, elements, environment, ect as "good brush work has its own soul" and have taken on the form of one of the Chinese zodiac animals. They are born of and wielded by the sun goddess Amaterasu for whom they hold great respect as their ‘mother’. Anyone can use the Celestial Brush Techniques but years of practice are needed to master them unlike Amaterasu who is the only one known to have and been able to possess all thirteen techniques. A Celestial Brush Technique can be canceled out by drawing the same symbol over it.
"You who walk the same battlefield as I deserve my power. Use it to crush our foes." -Gekigami
Gekigami’s children carry headless ornamental arrows which appear to be 'hamaya' (demon-breaking arrow). Up through the 19th century a Japanese boy would often receive these arrows with matching archery bows as gifts for the first New Year's Day after his birth. Similar arrows are still used in Shinto shrines as good luck souvenirs for New Year's Day and in the yabusame ritual of archery on horseback.
