Jakben, Earl of Imbel is a breton spellsword living in the Talos Plaza District of the Imperial City. He is snobbish, cowardly, and the supposed descendant of Springheel Jak. Jakben is always out at night, sleeping during the day and mostly keeping to himself.
Springheel Jak was a famous thief who died 300 years ago and was capable of amazing leaps and was, according to legend buried with his boots in the family crypt of Jakben’s manor. The diary of Springheel Jak reveals he never died but become a vampire and is living under the identity of Jakben, Earl of Imbel.
The Gray Fox wants his boots and upon learning his identity Jakben shows his true colors as a blood thirsty and powerful vampire willing to fight to the death. In his diary he claims to have known a thief who "dared to steal from Nocturnal herself" suggesting he knew the first Gray Fox, Emer Dareloth but due to the gray cowls curse cannot recall his partners name.
The manservant of Jakben, Gemellus Axius hints at his master’s vampirism when asked about his where abouts:
"The master is not at home. He is out in the city tonight, searching for his supper. If you value your life intruder, leave before he returns."
After his death the locals can be heard talking about it:
"The Earl of Imbel was attacked and killed in his own home. I heard the body burned in the sunlight."
From Springheel Jak’s diary:
"The cattle of this city know me as Jakben, Earl of Imbel. Centuries ago I knew myself as Springheel Jak, the famous thief. I seem to recall having a famous partner, but his name escapes me. No matter. I have grown beyond friends and partners. I rule the night here in the city."
