User summary

Marisa Kirisame is a normal human witch, living in the land of dream thoughts – the gensokyo – on the border between the human world and the spirit world. She is one of the main characters in the Project Shrine Maiden series of games.

Marisa is a tomboyish selfish character, spending her time stealing books from Patchouli's library, and annoying Reimu Hakurei, when she's not off battling spirits and other daemons for her personal purposes.

Marisa debuted in the second game of the series, The Story of Eastern Wonderland, as the helper of Mima, the final boss. In that game she was a redhead, but has ever since been blonde, and have become a recurring playable character in all subsequent Shrine Maiden games.

mb Toho fan - Marisa ("Toho fan")

Trivia:

  • Famous for either using missiles or laser, the different weapon styles are sometimes referred to as "Rezamari" (Laser-Mari) and "Misamari" (Missile-Mari). During the Project Shrine Maiden heights in the mid 00s, the latter was sometimes flip-flopped into "Marimisa" (Marisa Missile), which was a pun on the abbreviation "Marimite" for the famous anime series "Maria-sama ga miteiru" (The Lady Mary is watching you). Just changing two kana, it turned into "Marisa-sama ga misairu" – "Lady Marisa is missiling you".

  • In fan fiction, Marisa is often coupled with Alice Margatroid (from the 5th and 7th game). In fact, in Imperishable Night, the combination Marisa/Alice was playable, and referred to as "Malice".
