So for the weekly weigh in this morning I was at 209.8. It seems to fluctuate up and down through the course of the week, but this is the lowest it's been in a while, and is hopefully is the start of a good downward trend.

I'm making better food choices, and have stuck with no soda until lunch today. I must say I didn't enjoy it at all, so I don't think it will be much to not take up the habit again. I'm good with water, just need to drink more of it! I think I will look into those flavor packs, that might entice me to drink more.

Other than that I've got nothing. Been "too busy" to exercise... always an excuse, right? Need to work on that willpower to make the time.

Monday: walked a mile. It was tough, hadn't walked in quite a while and exhausted and sleepy. Ended up taking a nap on the couch. My plan is to walk 1 mile 3x a week for two weeks, then ramp it up to 2 mile walks for another couple weeks, then 5Ks. That's the plan, anyway.

Started tracking with MyFitnessPal. I've gone over the suggested calorie limit each day, but not by much.

Tuesday morning weigh in... 211.8. Hmm, that's .8 above my starting weight. Unlucky fluctuation perhaps? Made better food choices today but still went over due to late night cravings for... well, anything! Had some veggie straws and a couple Cadbury milk chocolate mini-eggs. Needed something sweet and couldn't resist! Just had a couple though, didn't go crazy.

Wednesday morning weigh in... still 211.8. Frack. I know I didn't go over my limit enough to gain more than a pound, so not sure where I went wrong. Maybe since I'm trying to drink more water this is more of my "fully hydrated" weight. Will have to be more serious about staying within the calorie range. Willpower is one of my weaknesses, so that is something I can work on improving this week. Well, keep on keepin on...

Current Weight: 210.4

So I'm down .6 of a pound. I'm pretty confident it's not a lucky fluctuation, as it's been my weight for the last 4 days... however that means I really haven't made much progress in those 4 days, either. I guess it's not bad considering there is an abundance of Easter candy in our house, and Easter dinner is made by the best cook in the world (my mom!).

I'm eating less (because it's downright uncomfortable), but I haven't been tracking either, so I've started using MyFitnessPal again to start tracking. If you bite it, write it.

So far my goal of no soda has been successful... a doctor's order helps with that! I'm finding, though, that without the soda I don't seem to be getting enough water. Will keep a better eye on that. Tonight after work I will restart my walking regimen. I used to walk quite a bit and know what paths through my neighborhood add up to 1 mile and a 5k. I track my walking with the RunKeeper app.

On to week 2...

With my current mouth condition eating has become slow and arduous. I've always been a slow eater, maybe eating even slower will have some kind of benefit?

Saw the surgeon and we're going to wait 6 weeks to see if the hole closes on it's own. In that time I'm not allowed to drink soda, so that will make one of my goals easy!

With eating being so difficult I am less inclined to just grab snacks willy-nilly. I am indulging in veggie-straws (more healthy than chips, easy to eat on one side of my mouth, and I don't seem to be allergic).

My weight seems to be on a downward slope... will see when we hit the 1 week mark...

Day 1 just happened to coincide with getting some rotten, very painful wisdom teeth removed. I've been awake all night from the pain. Ironically, the only thing that seemed to lessen the pain was eating! Especially hot foods. Maybe it was the heat and massaging motion in my mouth. In any case, I ended up eating both leftover servings of chicken parmesan my wife brought home, then proceeded to eat everything else I could. Like I said, I ended up being awake all night.

Weighed myself at the usual time in the morning... 211, so it seems I didn't do TOO much damage.

Got to the dentist first thing in the morning, started the process of what I thought would be an easy extraction (I had 2 removed a few years ago, it took all of 30 seconds)... the dentist began trying to remove my upper (really rotten) tooth... yes, trying. Pulled and pried for over a half an hour trying to get that sucker out. Finally FINALLY got it out, but it had broken up, so he then had to remove the roots. Yeesh. Got those out just as the magic numbing sauce was running out, so that REALLY hurt.

Second tooth, on the bottom, took about 2 minutes to remove. Thank goodness, I couldn't go through that whole ordeal again!

Did some follow up x-rays and found that there is a hole from my upper socket into my sinus. Great... may have to get surgery for that.

On my way out the dental assistant told me to get a milkshake (no straw) on the way home to help with swelling and promote clotting. Hey, doctor's orders!

Whole dental office ordeal was 2 hours. Yeah, not fun. Its now been 5 hours since and still waiting for the bleeding to subside. I also have a neat air passage between my tooth socket and nose, so I can't get any suction in my mouth (never realized how much you rely on that to swallow!) and occasionally inadvertently blow air through it... its an unsettling experience.

Going back tomorrow to follow up and possibly talk about surgery.

Anyway, so my whole weight loss thing has been sidelined for probably a day or two... though the milkshake has been the only thing I've had since this morning, and with my mouth's current condition I don't foresee having much of an appetite soon, so it may actually be a bit of a blessing in that sense. I guess we will see...

This is my diary for the BGG weight loss challenge.

Not much to say at this point. My starting weight is 211. For a few years my weight hovered around the 198-200 range, but during the last holiday season I got in the mindset that I didn't care and ended up gaining a ton of weight.

The challenge is to lose 6 percent in about 2 months time. So I would need to end up losing about 13 lb. which would get me back to my pre-holiday weight.

Goals:

Walk 3 days a week after work
Weight train 3 days a week
No soda
No sweets

Challenges:

Lack of willpower
Addiction to sugar
Food allergies to many fruits and vegetables

I would eat vegetables all day every day if I was able, I love them, but bad things happen.

Start weight: 211 lb.
Start BMI: 34.1 (obese)
Start Waist: 46 in.
