We've got a lot of geeks on this site, and we've got a wide variety of ages. I wonder how many consecutive months in a row a geek was born?

If you want to join in on this what can be loosely called fun, post your the year and month of your birth on this geeklist (assuming the month/year combination is not already taken). Also post something interesting that happened that month.

The more people who add, the neater it will look.

Claim your month and year before someone else does!
Posting gets you a shiny geekpenny

Please make your month/year big and bold.

So far:
Youngest: June 1998
Oldest: March 1946
Years missing: '48,'50,'54,'58,'89-'96
Most Consecutive Months: 9 (70-71)

This is going well holes are filling in, giving us longer and longer streaks.

Gus Grissom becomes the second American astronaut to go to space. The Liberty Bell 7 performs well, and brings Virgil Ivan "Gus" Grissom back safely.

Upon landing, Grissom removes the pin from the hatch cover detonator. The hatch cover blows and water pours into the capsule. Grissom gets out and swims until recovered. The capsule is recovered in 1999, went on a national tour in 2006 and is now in the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center.

There was a big controversy about whether Grissom blew the hatch or it went off by itself. The consensus after the fact is that there would have been injury to his hand if he had done so (There was not).

Sadly, Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee died during a pre-launch test of Apollo 1 in January of 1967.

JULY 1964

On my Birthday...

According to History Orb, The Beatles Hard Day's Night album becomes #1 and stays that way for 14 weeks.

History.com says the Joint Chiefs drew up plans for secret missions to be flown by Thai and South Vietnamese pilots in unmarked planes against North Vietnam; these weren't carried out until sometime shortly after the Gulf of Tonkin.

Closer to home again, there were some race riots in Rochester, NY. soblue

Another interesting tidbit was that a Declaration of Independence from the US was developed at Palmer's Crossing, Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

3 great movies were released in July 1964: Mary Poppins, Goldfinger, and Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

As both a Leo and a Dragon, I really thought things woudl have been a bit happier...

Sigh...

Aug 8 - South African Broadcasting bans Beatles because of Lennon's anti-Jesus remark.
Aug 11 – The Beatles hold a press conference in Chicago, during which John Lennon apologizes for his "more popular than Jesus" remark, saying, "I didn't mean it as a lousy anti-religious thing."
