We've got a lot of geeks on this site, and we've got a wide variety of ages. I wonder how many consecutive months in a row a geek was born?

If you want to join in on this what can be loosely called fun, post your the year and month of your birth on this geeklist (assuming the month/year combination is not already taken). Also post something interesting that happened that month.

The more people who add, the neater it will look.

Claim your month and year before someone else does!
Posting gets you a shiny geekpenny

Please make your month/year big and bold.

So far:
Youngest: June 1998
Oldest: March 1946
Years missing: '48,'50,'54,'58,'89-'96
Most Consecutive Months: 9 (70-71)

This is going well holes are filling in, giving us longer and longer streaks.

February 1967

The Black Tuesday bushfires raged around Hobart and surrounding suburbs in Tasmania, scaring the crap out of my parents days before I was born.

The 1967 Tasmanian fires were an Australian natural disaster which occurred on 7 February 1967. They were the most deadly bushfires that Tasmania has ever experienced, leaving 62 people dead, 900 injured and over seven thousand homeless.

110 separate fire fronts burnt through some 2,640 square kilometres (652,360 acres)(264,000 ha) of land in Southern Tasmania within the space of five hours. Fires raged from near Hamilton and Bothwell to the D'Entrecasteaux Channel as well as Snug. There was extensive damage to agricultural property along the Channel, the Derwent Valley and the Huon Valley. Fires also destroyed forest, public infrastructure and properties around Mount Wellington and many small towns along the Derwent estuary and east of Hobart.

The worst of the fires was the Hobart Fire, which encroached upon the city of Hobart. In total, the fires claimed 62 lives in a single day. Property loss was also extensive with 1293 homes, and over 1700 other buildings destroyed. The fires destroyed 80 bridges, 4800 sections of power lines, 1500 motor vehicles and over 100 other structures. It was estimated that at least 62,000 farm animals were killed. The total damage amounted to $40,000,000 in 1967 Australian dollar values.

Glad I don't remember it!

Mostly a bunch of political stuff happened, including two Presidential nominations.

From Wikipedia:

5–8 – The Republican National Convention in Miami Beach, Florida nominates Richard Nixon for U.S. President and Spiro Agnew for Vice President.

11 – The last steam passenger train service runs in Britain. A selection of British Railways steam locomotives make the 120-mile journey from Liverpool to Carlisle and return to Liverpool – the journey is known as the Fifteen Guinea Special).

18 – Two charter buses push into the Hida River on National Highway Route 41 in Japan, in an accident caused by heavy rain; 104 are killed.

20–21 – The Prague Spring of political liberalization ends, as 200,000 Warsaw Pact troops and 5,000 tanks invade Czechoslovakia.
August 21 – The Medal of Honor is posthumously awarded to James Anderson, Jr.—he is the first black U.S. Marine to be awarded the Medal of Honor.

24 – France explodes its first hydrogen bomb.

22–30 – Police clash with anti-war protesters in Chicago, Illinois, outside the 1968 Democratic National Convention, which nominates Hubert Humphrey for U.S. President, and Edmund Muskie for Vice President.

29 - John Gordon Mein, US Ambassador to Guatemala, is assassinated on the streets of Guatemala City. First US Ambassador assassinated in the line of duty.

29 - Crown Prince Harald of Norway marries Sonja Haraldsen, the commoner he has dated for 9 years, in Oslo.

In the UK charts, Mary Hopkin was at number one with "Those Were The Days".

In the USA, George A Romero's classic horror, "Night of the Living Dead", premiered in Pittsburgh.

A student protest in Tlatelolco Square, Mexico City, threatened to disrupt the upcoming Olympic Games; the protesters were violently crushed by police and military forces, with many killed or injured.

The first recorded case of sextuplet birth in Britain occurred in Birmingham; only three of the babies ultimately survived.

In Londonderry, Northern Ireland, civil rights marches ended in clashes with police; the violence continued for three days.

At the Olympics in Mexico City, black American athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos made a silent protest against racial discrimination.

In London, protest marches against US involvement in the Vietnam war ended in clashes between police and demonstrators.

The Beatles completed their "White Album".

saw the airing of the last episode of Star Trek (the original series for those who haven't paid attention to TV since then and I can see why you wouldn't want to) and the start of the comedy extravaganza Hee Haw.

I was born somewhere between the two.

Edit: Just looking on IMDB for unrelated reasons and found out I was born the same day as Peter Dinklage. Sad to know that he missed the original airing of Star Trek as well.

I am not sure what happened in that month. I'll do some research in a moment...

In the mean time, here is a short story about my middle name which pertains to the spirit of the times. Against the advice of his church and friends, my Dad marched went to Washington DC to march with Martin Luther King. The fact that my Dad did this was written about in the small local paper. They conjectured that my Dad may have been giving out, and/or receiving sexual favors from colored people (how else can you explain such erratic behavior?) To make a long story short, Dr. King was assassinated a year before my birth, and to honor him, my parents decided to give me King as a middle name. For many years, we had a hand written letter from Coretta Scott King thanking my parents for naming me after him. Sadly, that letter was lost when our house flooded in a 1980 mudslide.

... here are some interesting October 1969 facts from Wikipedia...

October 5 – Monty Python's Flying Circus first airs on BBC One.
October 15 – Vietnam War: Hundreds of thousands of people take part in Moratorium to End the War in Vietnam demonstrations across the United States.
October 29 – The first message is sent over ARPANET, the forerunner of the internet.
October 31 – Wal-Mart incorporates as Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

December, 1969

The end of the 60's ended on a bit of a lull. Wiki tells me that the first U.S. draft lottery of the Vietnam era was held. Also, it was also the debut of the Boeing 747 jumbo jet.

[I've posted the highest ranked game published in 1969.]
