Monday (barely)! Time to go back to the monotony or stress of work existence and fondly remember simpler times when you defended towers, battled monsters and had star power. Feel free to remember out loud and share..

What games did you play this week/end?

(Did you know these Geeklists have a subscription thread? They do!)

During the week, I started playing Dragon Warrior 3 since I had finished Super Mario RPG. So over the weekend, I played quite a bit more. This one is going to take a while, so expect to see this same entry over the upcoming weeks.

I actually did not play the title shown, but rather Elemental: Fallen Enchantress, which does not seem to have an entry in VGG yet, despite having been released three weeks ago already (note to self: submit game to VGG later).

So I just found out about this game last week, and have not invested a whole lot of time in it yet. So far I am enjoying it, and so just on that merit it's already a whole lot better than its predecessor. I don't know yet whether it will be worthy to hold up to Master of Magic in the end, but so far, so good.

Back to an old favourite. Troy's server isn't having the best time of it of late. But I'm persisting, and some of the smaller features of my tower are starting to come together.

I'll have to do a grand tour of the land soon and check out what other people have been up to.

Video Game: Assassin's Creed III
Really sunk my teeth into this game on Sunday. Wow, very impressed. Normally I don't do stealth type games, mainly because I suck at them at a core level. This one is so much fun that I ignore falling out of a tree to my death 30+ times just to get a synchronize of the surrounding area.

The story has several twists in it already, something that I have found lacking in games of late, especially open world games. Admittedly it's hard to make an open game world without having the linear feel to it in order to craft a well paced main story, but so far Assassins Creed III has done a phenomenal job.

Missions have a lot of variety to them, which I think the previous versions of the game lacked.

So far I have put in about 10 hours into the game and have been very impressed with it. In looking over my achievements for the previous entries in the series I generally get tired of the game around 300 points. I remember running out of steam, getting frustrated with controls, etc in the game.

We'll see in three months if I am over the 350 mark in the game. That will tell me a lot if the game is the best in the series and if the new shine I experienced yesterday is long term.

Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten

I only checked out the demo on Steam.

"A Tower Defense / RPG hybrid that focuses on story, customization, and tactics."

Basically you travel across the land hitting battles along the way. You will assemble a group of fighters, archers, and healers that you can level up and customize skills. It's these characters in your party that are the "towers" protecting the health of your character during the battles.

The game is good, and I'm not a big tower defense fan, but maybe not $15 good. I think it's well worth $5-7 though, so I'll wait for a sale then buy it. The demo is a quick download if you want to give it a shot.

I originally wasn't going to pick up this title but I'm glad that I did. I had a tremendous time finishing the game and playing some Spartan Ops Coop with friends.

OK, technically, I got this just yesterday but since it was Veteran's Day, let's just say it was an extended weekend...

I've been waiting a long time for this-ever since it was announced last year. I've only had the pleasure of experiencing this game through observing my friend's play. While a lot of reviews are crying that this iteration brings very little that's new, for me, it is my first hands on experience and am reveling in it. I've been sneaking in some gameplay whenever I had some free time to myself.

I finished off another medium map against 3 AI's. It was pretty easily actually, so I think I need to try a harder level. I didn't bother building a Titan this time. The resources and build time make it a toss-up for me. Nor did I build any Starbases. One thing I did do was build up a huge economy in trade ships and buy off the pirates. I then research the ability to bribe the pirates to actually attack and destroy the planets of another faction and sent endless waves against one opponent while I killed off another one with my own fleets. Great fun!

I tend to play video games in short spurts, here and there between other things that need doing. I keep a few games on the go, firing them up as the mood strikes me. So this weekend I played a pretty broad range of games, including Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls, SSX (2012), Magic Sword, and trying out Red Dead Redemption for the first time because my wife wanted to see it (it has not caught my fancy so far, only a couple hours in, but we'll see. Looks like it's going to be a lot of work, and I'm skeptical of the payoff).

But I managed to get a few hours of straight gaming in Friday evening for Xenoblade Chronicles. It's a game that really wants a commitment I'm unable to give it, but whenever I do get some solid hours in with it, I really enjoy the game. The gameplay itself I'm mostly indifferent to, but I like the character relationship system and how PC and NPC relationships evolve over time.

So my ps3 YLOD 2 weeks ago so i've been primarily playing Vita with some occasional Wii action, Which never happens. I've been playing this while my copy of 3 sits on the floor sad it has no home. It's pretty good, but the motion control puzzles are the worst.

I've also been playing this. First Ragnarok game i've ever played. Seems decent, basically no story at the moment. I've only gotten past chapter 1 and done maybe one or two quests after that. I'm still waiting for some more traditional turn based RPGs to come to the vita, but i imagine I have quite the wait.

I'm completely addicted to this game. The sense of speed and realism are spot on. I finally started to adjust my lead foot and have started to see some real results on my cornering. I added another 10 driver levels, so I'm at level 22, and scored some nice rides-- having a blast with my Hemi Cuda, and terrorizing some fine Euros. I spend a good amount of time grabbing cars from the auction house, but that '73 ZR-1 Vette keeps eluding me! I can't complain too much, because I picked up a '67 Ferrari 365 for less than $7000. I'm on the fence about committing to the "Season Pass" (first 6 car packs and American Muscle) for 2400 MSP, or just snagging the American Muscle pack for 560 MSP and a la carte the other handful of cars I can't live without.

I'm still working my way through my first game of this title, playing at the normal level. It's been quite challenging so far, and I'm especially enjoying the gravity and t.k. puzzles.

I do feel like there was something in the way of a missed opportunity here. Honestly, this game just isn't scary enough for me. It's a third person shooter with a nice science fiction / horror paint job. It's a lot of fun, and not bad as a game, but I wish they'd taken it more in the direction of psychological horror, a choice that would have been very easy to make, considering some of the elements of the plot.

I also played:

Halo 4

I think I've played enough of this to tell that it isn't going to be for me. It's short, so I may play through it once just so I can say I did, but if I'm going to play a shooter, I much prefer something along the lines of Borderlands or BioShock.

Detana!! TwinBee

This top down 'bullet hell' shooter is adorable! Bright colors and upbeat music set a fun tone for the game, as does the mechanic of finding bells hidden in clouds, then shooting them until they change color, with different colors giving different upgrades (or, in one case, a detriment). It is also possible to find and link up a second ship, doubling your firepower in a manner similar to Galaga. For some reason, many of the enemies are flying fruits and vegetables, and the one boss I've seen so far is a giant mecha-spider. Great, goofy fun!

Warlords

This is a fun variation on Pong mechanics. Each warlord sits at one corner of the screen and attempts to bounce fireballs off the shield defending their castle to break through their foes defenses and kill their warlord. When each rival warlord dies, he rips off a final, parting shot, so the number of fireballs multiply as you go along! Fireballs can be caught and deliberately aimed and released, but only one at a time. This is a classic for a reason, and I had a lot of fun revisiting it.

Pinball FX 2

I only played this briefly, in my ongoing quest to top Amy's high score on our Moonknight table. Should she have the high score on a table with a character she doesn't even like? I think not!

Pokémon Gold and Silver

I'm still in the Johto region, and am now relentlessly leveling up a bunch of ice type pokemon so that I can challenge the leader of the Dragon Gym! Since you catch them at relatively low level, I may be at that for a while.

I played this obnoxious game called Indecision. It went something like this:

"Man, I spent better than half the day doing chores. Now, what do I feel like playing?

Nah, too complicated.

Nah, too simple.

Nah, I'm not in the mood.

Nah, I don't want to wait for the download again.

Ah, screw it, it's late and I'm tired. I'm just gonna read."

Zzzzz...
