I thought this might be a convenient way for many convention goers to get out our little rants and raves all in one geeklist because some of us might want to make our points, but don't want to invest the time to make an individual geeklist.

It's open-ended, you can list games, moments, or just anything at all.

Top 5:

5. The new hotel. It was nice. Not a HUGE upgrade, but it helped BGG grow so I a happy for it. And what's also great is that it somehow didn't really "feel" much bigger even though it WAS much bigger.

4. Vanuatu - This is (unfortunately) the only game that wowed me at the con. Though I didn't get to play a lot of games (mostly busy doing prototype stuff), I did manage to play this one twice because it so impressed me. Really it's nothing all that new, except the worker placement aspect which is very interesting, but everything just works so well. Definitely the best game of the con (for me, anyway).

3. Vendor Hall - Wow BGG.con has a legit vendor hall now! It was well done, I really felt like I was back at Origins, minus all the LARPer booths.

2. The People - I had great interactions with pretty much everyone I met. A couple of people could use some more attention to hygiene, but for the most part everyone was friendly. Special thanks to everyone who attended the prototype events, I got some great feedback and had a lot of fun. Speaking of which...

1. Proto-Alley and the late stage prototype meet-ups: BGG.con had two events for designers this year, Proto-alley for brand new prototypes, and a new event that ran three(!) nights where you could show off your late stage prototypes to publishers. I am not aware of any other con that has this many official events for designers to get their games played and I'm looking forward to many more cons full of similar events. Between the two events, roughly half my time at the con was spent showing off my games and playing other's.

Bottom 5:

5. Didn't win any prizes besides the door prize. Sigh. Maybe one day.

4. Hot games room seemed smaller and seemed to have fewer new games. Maybe this was just an optical illusion of the lower ceiling. It was also even more crowded than usual. I was only able to get into two games in there over the course of the whole convention.

3. Not enough time to play all the games. I really only played about 8 new games this year. Pathetic since in previous years I've played well over 20. I'm not sure where my schedule went so wrong, probably the added time in the vendor hall and the prototype events greatly cut into my game playing.

2. No free wifi in the rooms. Seriously? I'm at a NICER hotel and I'm paying MORE money and I LOSE ammenities? (note: I'm not sure how it was at the Westin, I always stayed at the Red Roof Inn across the street, but it had free wifi and very excellent rooms, actually nicer than the Hyatt's and if it was still a convenient option I would still do it).

1. Suburbia. The search continues for "Sim City the Board Game" done to perfection. So many disappointments in this category (Urban Sprawl, Sunset City, City Tycoon...etc.). Still waiting for a GREAT game in this category. Urban Sprawl was "ok", but I really thought Suburbia was going to be it. It is a decently designed game, but in the end, my reaction was "meh". Not terrible, but it's definitely not the defining city builder, looks like we're still going to have to wait for that.

I'll get the given stuff out of the way.

The gamers are awesome almost everyone is kind, patient, and forgiving of my own faults.

The Boardgamegeek staff and volunteers are awesome this is the best show for board gamers.

These are just some of the things that pleased me in no particular order.

1. Spartacus - Everyone in my group loves this game so far.

2. Ground Floor - Another big hit with the group. I'm really looking forward to my kickstarter package.

3. We brought a new gamer to the con with us this year and it was a lot of fun experiencing his excitement and helping introduce him to the wider hobby.

4. The 3rd annual Tyler and Quinn's Indonesia game - I lost again with a middle of the pack score but man this game is great and in particular with the people it gets played with at this event it's constant hilarity.

5. Spiel-a-Thon - Our team the Chitkickers has been in this since the first one at BGG con and we have placed into the Semi-finals in all year but one but we made a great come from behind win this year to make it to the Finals. Then we got Rich Sommer onto our Finalist team which was a cool bonus.

These things I think could be improved.

1. Venue - Overall the new location is working quite well. There are some nitpick things that BGG honestly doesn't have much control over. The Elevators, especially on Saturday, were a bit flaky. The Cash and Carry while I feel was slightly cheaper and slightly higher quality than the buffet upstairs (Other than breakfast buffet which was really quite good) is pretty poorly run. The food servers don't seem to know what the menu says so they charged me less tickets than they should have which is in our favor.. sort of but if I knew I needed less tickets I would have bought less instead of having to get an extra item I didn't really want for fear of wasting the tickets.

2. Geekbuzz - I miss the 5 star rating system. I didn't feel compelled to go to Geekbuzz if I didn't feel a game deserved a "like". As a result I didn't really feel like going to Geekbuzz all that often at all so I ended up mostly ignoring this feature I used to really enjoy.

3. Main Room sound system - It was broken, it'll be fixed next year I'm sure. No event goes off without a hitch. It's some kind of law or something.

4. Not getting into an Artemis session - I have a plan to correct this next year.

5. Harder to find people - Not much that can be done here. The con is growing and this is just an affect of that growth. In prior years I could find anyone I had in mind within 15 minutes. This year I looked out for certain individuals all day long and couldn't manage to lay eyes on them. I guess I'll just have to buckle down and use some technology to contact folks from now on.
