I try to keep track of all the duplicate names that come through the database, but there is one particular name that has always given me lots of trouble, so I am submitting a geeklist about this matter so that some other gamers might be able to help me. Perhaps some of you even know some of these people.

The troublesome duplicate name is David/Dave Martin. Back in 2009 there were 22 David Martins in the database, so perhaps we are making some progress.

Any additional middle initials/names, dates and/or places of birth or death, nationality and/or country-born, home area or region, primary non-game profession, and similar things like this would be helpful. (A person's date of birth is bit of a privacy matter but an approximate year or decade is helpful to avoid duplicate name problems and to give the reader some general information.)

For more David Martin information now mostly contained in this geeklist, see the following:
http://rpggeek.com/article/4102730#4102730
http://rpggeek.com/article/6723242#6723242

...

Most of our duplicate designer/artist (and company and item) name discussions can be found here:

http://rpggeek.com/thread/428532/there-can-be-only-one-the-d...

If anyone who finds something that may need to be merged or separated, please leave a note here whether it involves a board game, role-playing game, or video game item, person, company, etc.

...

stargate bob suggests that I post the URLs for BGG and RPGG, etc.

Avalon Hill example:

http://rpggeek.com/rpgpublisher/5/avalon-hill
http://videogamegeek.com/videogamepublisher/5/avalon-hill
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgamepublisher/5/avalon-hill

Well, you might need to search in different locations, but I am sort of used to this.

For example, until just a little while ago when I split off one of the David Martins there was only one David Martin listed as a board game designer.

...

Some photos of these people would be nice as we don't have any visual identification for any of them yet.

David G. Martin (born February 8, 1949 in Michigan) is a game designer and author of American Civil War wargames and over 30 American Civil War books. He has a PhD from Princeton University and has been teaching in New Jersey.

-- wargame designer and teacher

>> many art credits have been erroneously attached to this entry.

>> However, what about the role-playing game designer credits? I would assume that these have also been erroneously attached to this entry but perhaps the Princeton PhD guy contributed to some role-playing games especially if some where related to the American Civil War or something like that.

>> wargame credits from 1979 to 1989:

* Little Round Top (1979)
* Devil's Den
* Little Round Top (1982) [should the two games be combined?]
* Iron Brigade
* The Battle of Monmouth,
* Charge to Glory: The Battle of New Market
* The Great Invasion: The Gettysburg Campaign June 24 - July 3, 1863
* Pleasant Hill: The Red River Campaign
* Harvest of Death: The Second Day at Gettysburg

...

Note: There appears to be a David Martin on the consimworld webite who is from New Jersey -- Milford, New Jersey, but this might be a totally different David Martin as one appears to have been born in 1949 and the other in 1955.

Only two David Martin wargamers and both live in New Jersey?

However, many designer credits for Marvel Super Heroes and DC Heroes role-playing games and Dragon magazine are attached to this entry.

Which artist would this be?

Wikipedia states that this David Martin did the artwork for 82 Magic cards between 1999 and 2008.

David P. Martin -- role-playing game designer with three credits dated 1993, 2006, and 2007.

Could the sole 1993 Ars Magica (3rd Edition) credit belong to perhaps person #59702, Dave Martin (FRA), as this person only has Ars Magica game credits between 1992 and 1994? It would seem so I would think. It also appears that the White Wolf also belongs with #59702 Dave Martin (FRA). The remaining item is Promethean: The Created Demo, also a White Wolf product, so perhaps a full merge is needed.

This David Martín appears to be from a Spanish-speaking country perhaps.

His only game credit is for "Líder (Número 50 – Noviembre 1995)".

David Ralph Martin (January 1, 1935 – March 30, 2007) was an accomplished television and film writer. He was born in Handsworth, Birmingham, England and contributed numerous scripts for the Doctor Who television series between 1971 and 1979.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Martin_%28screenwriter%29

Born in England.

-- has one sole Doctor Who game credit.

-- co-creator of Doctor Who's robot dog, K-9.

-- appears to have written at least 2 Doctor Who books -- Garden of Evil and Search for the Doctor.
However, perhaps not -- as an ebay listing states the authors name as "David C. Martin".
http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&cam...

(Any such David C. Martin is probably different than the one from CBS News.)

(This person entry probably doesn't need to be combined with any other David Martin person entries unless additional Doctor Who game credits attached to a David Martin can be found.)

I wish I could find a photo of this David Ralph Martin, who has passed away, and perhaps the David C. Martin also associated with Doctor Who.

...

Note: This is a different person than the David Martin from Lancashire and South Cambridgeshire who worked as a television reporter and who produced Look East and the East at Westminster political programme before becoming the Managing Editor of BBC Cambridgeshire as this David Martin joined Papworth Trust as the Director of Strategy and Marketing on June 11, 2007 -- three months after the above David Ralph Martin died.

(I just split this one off from David G. Martin.)

This person is also credited with designing the non-wargame board game Gift of Enlightenment in 2005. The co-game designer for this game is listed as Annette Martin -- see below.

David Martin (born February 4th, 1950 in England) is a video games and online publishing veteran. He was the founder of Martech Games, Emerald Software, Caffeine Studios and Wow Zoom Publishing.

Born in England.

Martin, once a chemistry teacher and boardgame designer, first started programming with the school computers in the early 1980's and then moved onto the ZX Spectrum at home. In 1982 he set up Martech Games, so becoming one of the early pioneers of computer games publishing for home computers and video games consoles. He was also the co-founder of Emerald Software in 1988. In 1990 he joined Sheffield based PLC Gremlin Interactive as Marketing Director and became actively involved with the promotion of the famous Zool and Lotus among others. Then in 1996 he decided to set up another company, Caffeine Studios, which after a handful of successful video games, was acquired by Rage Software in 2000. As part of the agreement, Martin joined Rage as Licensing Director. Here he is credited with obtaining the publishing rights from International football star David Beckham and the Rocky movie franchise for successful console games.

At this point Martin decided to take a break from the highly competitive video games market and venture into other projects. He developed and launched, with his wife Annette, the award-winning Gift of Englightenment board game. The game was sold worldwide and was runner-up in the UK’s prestigious 'Gift of the Year' awards and a finalist in the USA’s COVR (The Coalition of Visionary Resources) awards. The game was also selected as a gift for all the movie stars at the 2005 Emmy Awards. In 2006 he formed, with wife Annette again, Wow Zoom Publishing and in 2007 they launched an innovative membership site Pin-Up WOW! with a focus on pin-up and glam photography.

He is married to Annette Martin -- see below.

Ellisa Martin, aka Elise Martin, Elissa Martin, Ellisa Martin Schobe

-- artist who provided role-playing game credits (1987-2003) mostly for Rolemaster/HERO System (Iron Crown Enterprises), GDW House System, and Narnia Solo Games.

..........

At one time I thought she was married to one of these David Martins at one point, perhaps David Harold Martin. (I think they both have Iron Crown credits.)

My previous comments about this person:

"** One of these (David Martins) appears to be married to Elissa Martin (aka Ellisa Martin & Ellisa Martin Schobe), an illustrator for Iron Crown Enterprises.

*** David Lozell Martin appears to be the one who contributed to Tale of the Comet and who works with Elissa Martin. However, this actually may have been a different David Martin as she worked with an illustrator named David Martin.
Date Source: http://www.locusmag.com/index/c44.htm#BOT (edited page change)
Incorrect information it appears from this website.

**** Elissa Martin was married to Brian Martin, director of Ultima IX.
Source: http://www.notableultima.com/literal/Signs_U6.html"

Note: Another problem might be that Elissa Martin and Ellisa Martin are two different people. Elissa Martin was/is married to Brian Martin, director of Ultima IX. However, according to a dead link, Ellisa Martin may have been married to David Martin with both of them being Houston-area artists whose work has appeared on gaming covers and in many convention art shows, including AMIGOCON V, between April 20-22, 1990.

He was married in the 1980s to Jean Elizabeth Martin, an incredibly talented artist who signs her work 'JEM'." -- David Edward Martin

David M. Martin (born 1922 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a landscape and still life painter based just outside of Glasgow, Scotland. He retired from his post as Principal Teacher of Art at Hamilton Grammar School in 1983.

Note: Some of his artwork is erroneously attributed to a "David H. Martin". I suppose a capital "H" and a capital "M" can look similar.

David Martin was a famous Scottish-born painter and engraver (April 1, 1737 – December 30, 1797). His artwork could possibly be attached to an historical game at some point.

His famous Benjamin Franklin portrait apparently hangs in the White House.

David Stone Martin (1913–1992), born David Livingstone Martin was an influential American artist best known for his illustrations on jazz record albums. He attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and was greatly influenced by the line art of Ben Shahn.

This person probably wouldn't or shouldn't have any gaming art credits.
