2014 RPG Geek Newbie Play-by-Forum Sign-up
See the News Post about this event here: RPG Geek Play by Forum Initative - 2014 Edition
We're glad you've taken an interest in our Newbie-Friendly Play-by-Forum (PbF) Initiative. We've assembled some of the very best RPG Geek Game Masters (GMs) who have taken the time to put together games suitable for new players. The games being offered are shown below (one per geeklist entry). There are almost 50 games being offered - two full pages of geeklist items. Each item should clearly indicate how many slots the game will take - if you don't make the cut-off for one game, add yourself as an alternate or jump at another. We had all tables fill up quickly the past 2 years - don't wait to sign up!
Please note, some Game Masters are offering a 2nd table of a given game. Those games will have more than one geeklist item to separate out the different tables.
You will not need to buy any rules nor will you be required to read piles of system notes - but be sure that these games can be addictive and you may just find yourself buying some things before it's all said and done. Most games will provide a character for you and some will allow you to make one yourself. Our goal is to keep it as simple as possible.
I've asked the GMs to make these games ultra-short. Given the speed of play-by-forums (i.e. slow!), it will still take several months to run online - but only require a posting frequency of once/day (i.e. check in once a day to see if you have any actions or roleplay to add). Checking in more frequently is, obviously, fine too
We have a brief FAQ for how we tend to run Play-By-Forum games along with some examples. Check it out here: PLAY-BY-FORUM (PbF) - FAQ & REFERENCE
These special newbie-friendly games are open to anyone who has not played in an RPG Geek Play-by-Forum before.
Each new player is allowed to join only one game until Wednesday (5-March) at which time they may take one additional seat at another table. We filled up so quickly last year - jump in now!
People do, for whatever reason, drop out of games so if you are really keen on a game, put yourself down as an "alternate" - there is a reasonable chance you will end up in the game when the inevitable happens! If you list yourself as an alternate for a full table, it will not count against your "one virtual seat" at another available table.
Feel free to ask questions about any game on the list directly under that geeklist entry. If you want to sign up as a player, make that clear in a post under the geeklist entry. Do not assume that asking questions about a game implies you are playing - be direct and specific if you are signing up (though ask as many questions as you want before committing). Otherwise it is first come, first served until the table(s) fill.
I hope to see many of you take advantage of this opportunity to get into the games! We got some amazing players from the 2012 and 2013 crop of Newbie friendly games. Looking forward to gaming with some of you, virtually, in 2014!
