Borderlands 2 - Played with Alex, yes, that Alex. I experienced a few bugs that made enemies and chest invisible, made gun sounds and explosions silent, and would instantly change where I was at to another part of the level off and on.

Survarium - I've been sort of following this team of devs ever since they started this project after Stalker 2 was canceled. Yesterday they had an open beta stress test on their servers just for the day. I jumped on and had a good time. My thought can be found on this thread.

Starbound - Played with Seth, Alex, and Matt. This is my favorite late night game where people weave in and out of doing their own thing and working together. I also thoroughly enjoy everyone's commentary on their current situation or immature banter about Alex's mom.

Another free MMO? Y'all are shocked, I say! Anyway, a couple of local friends and I have been playing this, and I like it; it's a Nexon game, with standard MMO-type cartooney graphics, but action-based combat. A bit silly and childish story-wise, but it's fun so far.

Beat another chapter of Saturday Morning RPG, although it was a bit of a slog. Game keeps going into slowdown. I'd quit now, but I think I've now done 3 of 4 chapters, so may as well just beat it at some point.

Been saving my gold in Hearthstone (just as well after going 2-3 in my last four arena runs), so just running daily quests. In Solforge I randomly ran into Chad Ellis in the draft queue, and it seemed like he felt bad for me and let me win... but there was no chat, so I found out later he was having Internet issues and couldn't play any cards. Still, it gave me a third win, which is the first time I've ever done better than 2 wins in SolForge draft. My next draft was a return to form and I went 1-3.

I continue plodding through Ys: Oath, which is now just a progression between being stuck at different bosses. After a few more tries at the Clockwork boss, I beat him while I was at 1HP. Next boss only took me a few tries, but now that I've opened the final area on the map, the current boss is a souped-up extra-difficult version of the very first boss... and the first boss was pretty dang hard to begin with. I'd like to beat this game; hopefully I can make it through this boss.

And who knows, maybe some VGGers will want to play a game tonight!

Internal Report of the Penitus Oculatus: Massacre at the Thalmor Embassy

9th of Evening Star, 4E 201.

At the secluded Thalmor Embassy east of Solitude, a gathering of Skyrim's wealthy and well-connected erupted into violence yesterday evening. Survivors caught glimpses of a masked intruder who appeared suddenly and without warning, apparently having breached the embassy's security without raising the alarm. Details are scarce, but it seems that no effort was made to remain in the shadows or flee once discovered. The massacre itself may have been a primary objective. If the Thalmor lost valuable property or intelligence in the raid, our agents have yet to verify it.

The origins and precise identity of the assailant remain unknown. However, witnesses' descriptions contain disturbing details that require immediate investigation. Imperial scholars confirm that the mask worn during the rampage may have belonged to an Ancient Dragon Priest. Such priests have not roamed Skyrim since the 1st era, when they were vanquished along with their masters. Sightings of such a mask cannot be a coincidence following the Dragon attack at Helgen a month ago. Furthermore, the elite Thalmor warriors protecting the embassy were all slain with a devastatingly powerful warhammer. The weapon in question may be Volendrung, the Hammer of Might, which our scholars also trace to the 1st era. Perhaps Daedric in origin, perhaps Dwemer; either way the results were gruesome.

The assailant quickly crushed all opposition and appears not to have sustained major wounds. Civilians were left unharmed, and report that this hellish marauder was encased in intricately carved ancient nordic armor. All three descriptors - the armor, mask, and weapon, match reports of a Nord Warrior recently ennobled across the minor, northernmost holds. The natives call him "Son of Skyrim." Whether he is also the rumored "Dragonborn" thought to have defeated a dragon outside of Whiterun is still unknown.

Both our own officers as well as the Thalmor's initially suspected that the masked attacker was Ulfric Stormcloak himself, seeking reprisal for his near-execution at Helgen. But we have every reason to believe Ulfric is still massing his forces at Windhelm, and his connection to the so-called "Son of Skyrim" is unclear. Moreover, there is a faint possibility that the warrior who attacked the embassy is also the one who recently and unexpectedly purged the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary in Falkreath - and in that endeavor his interests matched our own. We have stepped up our efforts to extinguish the Stormcloak rebellion, and hope to dissuade the Thalmor from openly declaring war and deploying armies to the region.

I completed the newest (and last) DLC, "Son of Crawmerax." It's set on a tropical island with a resort, so it's a very different setting from the rest of the game. It's a Headhunter DLC, so it's cheap and short, but it's a nice wrap-up to the game with the main boss being a reference to BL1 and the secondary quest making a nod to the history of each of the six vault hunters from BL2.

I've had a lot of free time this week, with Easter and Leave from work, and I finally managed to break into this JRPG that had me stumped. There aren't many JRPGs available for the Wii or Gamecube, and this 2003 title is highly spoken of, which led me to hunting it down on ebay. But I found it hard to get into, harder than Xenoblade Chronicles, partly I think because there's less hand-holding. I briefly tried the sequel (Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World) but it was boring. It bight be better after I've finished this one and the story makes more sense.

So it has taken some perseverance. I've been keeping a session report here if you're interested to follow along:

Journeys into anime-land ... a newb plays Tales (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

I've only found it necessary to grind twice, the first time right at the start when I didn't have much of a handle on the battle system, and the second time for the desert dungeon, which is pretty brutal for a low level party (and requires more than button mashing).

It has that JRPG thing where the story initially looks fairly straightforward, and just when you're getting near the end it all blows wide open and you realise you're only a fraction of the way through.

So now I'm about halfway through I think (27 hours), and the combat seems pretty easy for some reason, I can beat most fights by spamming normal attacks, and it has been a long while since I wasn't able to beat a boss on the first attempt (even though you can't reorganise your party once you've encountered a boss fight).

The writing is pretty good and often hilarious, helped by the intriguing cast of characters. The cell-shaded environments look pretty good but can't convey the wow factor of more realistic art styles in my opinion. I wish the world map was done better, as it's a pain to navigate. Also that the voice acting was more consistent, as many of the cutscenes and some of the skits are text only, but would have been better with full voice acting.

I'm glad I finally got around to picking this up. You can pretty much add "in space" to any idea and make it appeal to me. Doing it with Terraria is an inspired combination.

I started playing Civ 4 for the first time on Monday evening. That was a big mistake! I was up until 2 AM in the morning and I had to get up really early the next day to drive my Mom to Barnes Hospital hours away. The next day was a long day for a lot of reasons.

The Civilization games always tend to pull me in and time flies. Even when I'm tired I continue thinking "just one more round" until I can't keep my eyes open.

For some reason I can't seem to avoid attacking my neighbors. It is just way too tempting. I had destroyed two other civilizations before I quit.

I've been telling myself that if GOG.com ever put this game on sale, I'd have to buy it--even though I have a couple of the CDs floating around the house somewhere. Today they were on sale, so I bought the first three games in the series (there's a new one out now, I hear--but I don't think it'd run on my little netbook computer).

Anyhow, I just installed the first game in the series, played the tutorial to refresh my memory after so many years away, and then lost two scenarios while getting back up to speed. Now I'm in the middle of another scenario, making a point to save periodically and be more careful.

It's a pretty good game, but tactical battles can become annoying. There's an option to fight battles on automatic, but then you risk losing units you might have saved if you'd taken personal control. If you do take charge, the tactical battle can be long and drawn out. So, it's kind of a catch-22.

Once again my inner collector got the best of me. I could have spent $2.99 just for the game I'm playing, and I'd have a lot of game play in store. But I just had to get the two sequels for $4.99 each so I'd have everything. I did that with Heroes of Might and Magic also--got all the first five games plus expansions. Now I need a couple more lifetimes to fit all this game playing into.

When I'm shopping for games, it seems like I have all the time in the world. Once I start playing a game--most any game--I suddenly feel that life is way too short; I'll never be able to do all I'd like to do with the game in front of me, much less all the others I've purchased.

Most interesting run done recently: No Engines with the Lanius B (Hard). Engines could only be turned on to jump to the next beacon, never during a fight. This meant 0% evasion and no ability to run from any fight. Easier than expected - Shields are apparently more important than Engines =)

Not sure yet what's on tap tonight - perhaps another Shieldless attempt or a No Medbay/Clone Bay run with the Slug B, hmm...

I did a couple small and tiny maps. Won with Tech, Culture, Diplomacy and Domination. I never seem to get to win by points at the end for time in Civ V, I did win that way a fair bit in Civ IV though.

I also tried the Fall of the Roman Empire scenario as the Celts this time. I was able to take over most of Gaul and just capture the Western edge of the Franks, and the Northern tip of Italian peninsula. I ended up losing as the scenario is a time limited and the Non-Roman aligned faction only get point from capturing Roman cities. I spent too many resources fighting the Franks and should have sunk my armies into Iberia or Northern Italy. I squashed the main Roman army and I could have gone for Rome itself... next time!!!!

Finished up Act I. Having a lot of fun playing this, though it's hard to decide which skills to use. We both got killed at once for the first time fighting the final boss of Act I. I've thought the boss fights so far are pretty cool, with the bosses using several different interesting attacks.

PC Edition.

Never played it before and everyone was telling me to try it out. Well, I've made it to my 3rd campfire or so, but the game is so dang hard. I have to battle through like 50 guys and some boss monster to get to the next campfire and It's wearing me out. I must have died at least 50 times and I have to keep fighting the same guys over and over again. Also, the story seems almost nonexistent. All I know is that I am undead and need to ring a bell for some reason? Where did I come from? Where am I? What are all these monsters? I know I'm really early on, but the difficulty and lack of engagement is keeping me from wanting to play it any more.

Other than that I have been playing a lot of King Arthur's Gold but the constant glitches are kinda ruining it for me.

Played with Seth, Rudy and Alex. As Seth mentioned, it's a good game to be able to jump in and out of, which is good because I wasn't feeling so great last night and had to take advantage of that loose structure. During the time I did play, I made a tiny little bit of progress with my character, but mostly dug holes.

I completed the Story mode of Injustice on Normal difficulty. There's not a whole lot to it, but then, story modes of fighting games are never very meaty. The storyline itself leads to some interesting alliances and struggles, but only the fights themselves get shown in the gameplay since it's limited to one-on-one battles.

Started Ghost Recon: Future Soldier in earnest. Seems too easy; disappointing to someone like me who loved the careful planning and smooth execution of the original Rainbow Six games. That said, the game is fun to play and feels fairly authentic during combat, not so much during downtime briefings.

I've explored a bunch of stuff on my way to picking up a few quest markers. The quest of my Amulet of Mara brought me to Markarth where I got involved in some nasty corruption and thrown into jail.

I've also visited the Graveyard town and appeased the god of the hunt.

Then I stumbled around the place for a while after taking a guy up on his drinking challenge. That was frustrating at first but the silliness won me over eventually.

I've collected the Star of Azura but got my butt kicked while trying to cleanse it.

Weaseled myself into the thieves guild in Riften without breaking the law. Ok. I had polish a few mugs but hopefully they've learned to stop dealing with thieves now. On the upside this allowed me to retrieve some stolen goods and a few good leads without any casualties.

And, I got married. While strolling through Riverwood it turned out that Camilla Valerius fancied me. And I too liked her ever since we met at her brother's shop. And honestly she can do better than those scheming pricks in her town. So we went to Riften for a small but lovely ceremony. Here's a picture:
From gallery of Kempeth

She's wearing her favorite dress while I chose something, uhm, less conservative. It must have worked because after we exchanged our vows she made a beeline for the door (obviously heading for bed). But she must have gotten lost because I couldn't find here anywhere. I had to call on the daedric forces of Gglsrch to find here again but the reunion was a happy one.

I'm at level 23 and the steamroller is picking up steam now that I've been able to enchant some halfway decent fortify destruction pieces. Between my looted Helmet and Robes as well as my crafted necklace and ring I've got 64% cost reduction in addition to the 50% reduction from the perks making Firebolts almost spammable.

I spent most of my weekend playing this fun little casual power fantasy. It's not without its share of faults, but I do get a good vibe from it. I'm closing on completing it, having enjoyed mixed success with my company CyberRealms, but the last few games I put out were some of the best I completed during the company's lifetime.

Other than that I played some matches of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Soulstorm vs the AI. I find that in 1on1 scenarios I'm quite capable of taking on the Hard difficulty AI with little of a problem. I might be tempted to try some bigger maps with multiple Hard AI enemies, or maybe just a big map with a lot of Mediums.

And I finally fired up the DLC campaign of Shadowrun Returns. Dragonfall starts in sort of a cliched way, but it's fun nontheless and I felt like there's a lot of good character dynamics present here. The starting side-quest or two are good introductions to Berlin as a Shadowrun locale, but striked me as a bit forced and maybe too "standard" for their own good. However, I enjoyed the Dead Man's Switch campaign immensily the first time I played the game, and I don't mind the linearity of the plot and simplicity of the combat system. I do enjoy everything else about the game, so it seems that I, at least, got my money's worth - and beyond! - from backing this title's Kickstarter Campaign back in... 2012, I think?

Still continuing in Bully at the moment. Didn't have a lot of time for videogames this weekend with the RPGG meetup we had. But yesterday evening I was playing further. At the moment I'm at the 4th chapter and I just convinced the nerds to join me in my fight against the jocks.

I still like the game a lot. It's funny. And it came in handy that I was in a high school boarding school mood since I played Monsterhearts (1st & 2nd Eds.) on saturday

I played quite a lot of Tomb Raider this weekend... I spent a couple of days fast-travelling to different camps and completing all the collectibles in each region... the only one I haven't completely finished is the birds nest quest in the Mountain Village region.

After that I continued with the story from the shipwreck beach... and have passed the "point of no return", so I can no longer use Fast Travel. I'm guessing the end is in sight now...

My wife picked this up second hand for £5 and she has been playing it quite a bit with our eldest (He's too excitable and chaotic to play particularly well!). I had chance to play with them this weekend and we had quite a bit of fun despite the madness of playing with a 3 y/old! He always wanted the power ups.. got upset if he didn't get them.. always ran on ahead and died a lot.. and often was physically jumping out of his seat while playing. All good fun though.

Spent a lot of time with this one. Finished an entire season with my solo game. We finished 7th (of 8) with a 58-82 record. Terrible. The cup happened, and we went through the first round easily with two straight wins, then got cut down in the 2nd round due to byes being gone. We can only defeat other crappy teams!

Once the game rolls to January 1st I'm going to play around with the playoff brackets. I like the idea of all the higher league teams having byes in the first round and then having the highest seeds regardless of how poorly they did in the season, but it didn't make sense for an inaugural season when all the leagues are 'equally matched'. Yeah right.

Anyway, I'm excited for the offseason and for the next season, as I drafted a pretty good pitcher who has already move up to AAA ball, and my number 4 pitcher is half a star better than he was, giving me potentially 5 starters who are worth something.

I spent an even longer time fretting over possible draft picks on the online league, and getting people set up, resending emails I sent to the wrong address, and other such things. Good times! I enjoy setting things up.

I'm still doing this. I've gotten to Tier 3 tank destroyers on both American and German, and I have a Tier 3 American light tank as well. I like the idea of light tanks - I can't say I play them very well though. I do better with the rank destroyers, and I think it's because of the role more than anything. When I charge forward I die, but sometimes I can hang back and shoot across the map at other spotted tanks and pick up a kill or assist that way.

I like to have a light tank or two in front of me. When I am that light tank, well, yeah. There never seems to be a tank destroyer behind me.

Continued on my Mass Effect play through after a fairly long hiatus. Had to make a decision that wasn't all that tough for me to make.

Played a bit of Rainbow Moon. Just trying to clean up a couple of sidequests. I'll have to find a good grinding spot and get all of my characters up to around Level 70, I figure. I assume my main character will hit the level 80 cap before everyone gets to 70...so he should be fairly tank-y going into that final battle.

Played a bunch of WWE 2K14 as well. Made it through most of the Attitude Era in the Wrestlemania mode. One more match to go (Rock vs Stone Cold) until the Ruthless Aggression era begins.

LEGO The Lord of the Rings had me enjoying my rainy Sunday afternoon. It's not as LEGO'y as some of the other games, but it is the most pleasant to look at. The world map section of the game (outside of the individual levels) allows you to hike as you please along the path the Hobbits and Fellowship take on their way to Mordor. I spent a lot of time in Hobbiton, mostly because I really like the music. It is happy and relaxing. Left off my game at the Gates of Moria...should be fun.
The game also includes voice work taken directly from the movies, they've cut and spliced it up a bit to make it flow a lot faster, and they changed up a few spots for comedic effect. (The Black Riders bust into the Prancing Pony right after Aragorn first encounters Frodo...and then they are promptly locked in the bathroom allowing the good guys to escape.

I've been replaying the Last of Us and really enjoying it. What a great game! I had to work Saturday, which got in the way of my gaming, but when I turned it off Sunday evening I'd finally gotten out of Pittsburg.

I've also been playing Warhammer Quest when on the go. It's a pretty good game. The tactical-RPG element was great, but I've maxed out my level and gotten all the good gear I can right now, which makes questing less exciting than it was. The sudden ambushes are crazy. I purchased the Skaven in-app purchase, as I've got a long-standing animosity towards and fascination with Skaven from days in highschool playing Advanced Heroquest. I finished the main game during the week and am getting into the Skaven quests now and enjoying them. I haven't decided on whether not to get the Orc stuff.

I've been out of town since Tuesday evening, so gaming has been light. My host owns a PS3 with some games on it; I was hoping to play through Journey, but my girlfriend wanted to watch me play a game she's not seen before, so I committed to playing Brothers.

I also dabbled a little bit with Critter Crunch, Castle of Illusion, and Duck Tales Remastered.
