ENDED • 3 Charities • $3 Starting Bids • 2nd Annual Auction for Global Health
I sold 18 board and video games in my 2013 charity auction. It wasn't a huge auction, but we did raise $270 for programs that are recognized for maximum impact on health and well-being. I'd say that first auction went well, so I'm at it again.
Bidders will cover real shipping costs. Then I'm donating every dollar to charitable organizations that have been evaluated for cost-effectiveness in global health.
Giving What We Can and GiveWell both evaluate charities for maximum return of quality-adjusted years of life on each dollar donated. In short, these programs aren't just doing good: they're doing the best good money can buy. Winning bids from this auction will be donated:
· 33% to Against Malaria Foundation (AMF).
· 33% to Deworm the World.
· 33% to Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI).
Thanks to the bidders for making this second auction another success! The final bid total was $268, rounded to distribute as:
· $90 to Against Malaria Foundation (AMF).
· $90 to Deworm the World.
· $91 (£54) to Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI).
Every item has a starting bid of $3. There are no other reserves and no buy-it-now prices. Whole dollar bids only.
Local pickup will be available in the Toledo area. Everything else ships via USPS from 43537 (Maumee, Ohio), and the winning bidder pays all real shipping costs. For board games, I have enough boxes lying around to avoid charging anyone for supplies. Video games are going in bubble mailers or small flat-rate, unless you request something more elaborate. I've only heard compliments on my shipping and packing.
End of Auction on Sunday, July 27th
I'll end bidding at a pseudorandomly generated time between noon and 9pm EST on the 27th of July. If any item has a bid within the last hour at the selected time, I'll extend bidding for one to two hours on that item only. The auction ended at 5:45 PM. Bidding on Dungeons & Dragons: The Legend of Drizzt Board Game, 7 Wonders, DungeonQuest, and the Wii U choice was extended until 7:14pm.
I'll contact winning bidders, and we'll sort out shipping estimates and requests at that time. All sales will take place through the BGG Marketplace, through Paypal transfers only, and I'll make up for their cuts in the final donations myself. (That is, your bids of $X will directly produce $X in donations.)
I'll be posting receipts for each donation, as ought to be standard practice for charity auctions. You can view confirmations from my first global health auction in its GeekList header.
