Two days into streaming this now (Day 1, Day 2). The story is definitely on the weak and silly side, but I've been enjoying the game a fair bit overall.

Time to attempt the Hard Mode win streak with every ship once more. So far we've taken down two of the hardest ships (Stealth C, Engi B) and we'll be doing the Federation C next.

I'm still working on this one as well as Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard and Fire Emblem: Awakening. I will probably wind up finishing DA: I without seeing all of its content. The overland map keeps it from feeling quite 'Open World' but it is certainly huge, for all of that!

Been finishing up this game, which has a better AI than part one and better characters. Does make you want to play poker for real, with real people who can bluff and make decisions based on the ebb and flow of the game. But it's still fun though.

I keep playing Pixeljunk Monsters due to a hunger for tower defence games, but it's not that fulfilling. I'm not sure if its the cute fantasy theme or the imprecise controls, but it doesnt really get at the right spot. I'll perservere though until there's a sale on Defense Grid 2.

Bless me father, for it has been a few years since I last played Psychonauts. I saw this on a few people's Challenge Lists, and decided to add it as a bonus game to mine, because I'm always saying it's the best game ever, and I think everyone should play it this year (Yes, even you, especially if you haven't played it! If you don't own it, it will end up on a good discount (alone or in a bundle) on Steam sale later this year.)

So I am delighted to say that almost a decade after I first played this game, it holds up. It is still totally awesome. I should probably write a review of it to blather about how awesome it is in so many ways, because it is a glorious thing. Of all the awesome things, my favorite has to be level design. The other day I just finished the Milkman Conspiracy, which is just a brilliant level. I'm avoiding saying more because I don't want to spoil people who haven't played this game.

People, play this game!

Still going on with this. Probably only this for the remainder of January.

Am probably a third through the game or so, with about 20 hours gametime.

For a game that has a total gametimeof about 15 hours… that's how I play games.

I played a whoooole lot of Payday 2. Well, it's still drops in the bucket after what other people have done, but I've played quite a bit more than I normally do for multiplayer stuff. I was initially very frustrated by this game, but since I've started playing with people at a higher level than me to help me understand the game mechanics, maps, etc., I've been able to learn how to play the game more effectively. And it's true what they say; the first million is the hardest! Once you get some cash and can upgrade your starting weapons, it helps a lot.

I've been playing mostly with Grimwold and tickmanfan, with occasional heists with Renwmn and vyran. The game is great once you get a group of 3 or 4 because that's when you can really feel like you're contributing something specific to the action. The other day, I stayed near a computer terminal to reboot the system while Andy stayed on the floor level resetting the power when it was cut.

I'm also making progress in Aarklash Legacy and have just got the last two or eight characters. I'm a little disappointed to see that one character (Motcha) has two abilities which aren't much more interesting than "heal an ally", where other characters have really interesting twists in their abilities. I'm still really digging the game, though I can see how, with a level cap that I'll hit before the end of the game, the later parts might be monotonous. Until then, I'm really enjoying the game! It's a nice cerebral, tactical game. I hope to write a review when I'm finished.

I had some time to play The Banner Saga last night, and it's getting frustrating. I find the battles too difficult, accompanied by the fact that I have to use all renown I get to buy supplies whenever I get a chance. Often in battles, I'll be faced off against a large dredge enemy who has both 15-22 armor and health, which means that he's basically going to kill the first unit I send to it, and leave the second crippled. Pro tip to anyone who is thinking of playing: you should probably increase eveyone's armor break stat before anything else (so long as they have at least one exertion). When you're faced off against a unit with 20+ armor, it's incredibly frustrating to spend three actions to take off a total of 4 armor from it.

I've got people dying left and right, but rather than feeling impactful like in The Walking Dead, it just feels frustrating because it comes from an untenable gameplay situation (whether not having enough supplies or being put in ridiculous battles).

I also played a few quick matches in Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes, the match-three RPG for DS. It's pretty cool, I guess.

Moooooore SolForge. This weekend is a wacky "Forgemaster" event where you can build decks from any card in the game even if you don't own it, but only play them in the special Forgemaster queue. So I got to experiment with all the sexy new legends I don't own. Brom Dino Rider is great with Thundersaur, but I think my favorites were Duskmaw and Relic Hunter. I've tried a few decks so far, one of which was 80% legends and although I went 1-3 with it in one tourney set, I went 4-0 with it in another set! Sadly, my Challenge goal for SolForge was to win 3 in a row in the Random queue, not a special forgemaster event queue, so my challenge remains uncomplete. But maybe if I pick up a few relic hunter and duskmaw before the end of the year, my luck will change.

Prime World: Defenders is not in the database, so I've been holding off adding it to the beaten games geeklist until my addition thereof has been approved. But I beat it this past week; turns out that when I'd stopped playing it for a while and only logged in for daily rewards, I was only 3 levels away from the end! That's the second game down from my challenge list.

I actually spent most of the week finishing Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, which was awesome. I wasn't sure what to play next, and unfortunately, most of the games on my 2015 Challenge List are kind of dark and gritty and violent. Haven't been in that mood. My wife has been playing through New Super Mario Bros., which I don't think I've touched since 2007.

The more she would play it, though more my interest in a replay would go up. So I finally dove in this afternoon and quickly beat the first three worlds, gathering up about 90% of the Star Coins as I went. Really enjoying it. Of course I am dimly aware of playing it in the past, which is probably helping me sail through, but it feels fresh. Love the sense of movement and flow in Mario platformers.

I have all but decided to purchase the "New" 3DS XL when it comes out in North America (March? Soon, hopefully). Quite a few games I'm interested in, and there are some unresolved issues surrounding the PS4 that I'd prefer to wait out.

Picked up Omega Ruby after a few weeks off. My son is having trouble with the Elite Four, so I'm trying to catch up so that I can better understand what options he has. 6 gyms down, 2 to go. For a game that's both highly formulaic and rather easy, it's still surprisingly fun. There's lots to do on your journey - I've still barely explored the Contest Spectaculars or the Secret Bases, and I know there's a ton of Legend hunting you can do when it's all over. The improvements in the map and radar are awesome. With Pokemon Bank available now, I think I may actually try to complete at least the Hoenn Pokedex entirely with pokes with my OT and in regular Poke Balls.

I also picked up Batman: Arkham Asylum for the first time since last fall. I decided I'd just start it all over to refamiliarize myself with the Asylum layout and the combat controls. Knowing what not to bother with yet definitely speeds things up, and I'm almost back to where I was (30% complete) after maybe 4 hours of play. I'm not a huge Batman fan, but the game is very solid. Nothing wildly innovative, but it executes well on a variety of existing ideas. I doubt I'll attempt every challenge and hunt down every collectible, but I'm sure I'll enjoy playing through the story.

After playing one day last week, I finally got around to playing Day 2 today. I did a few side quests, worked on the Luxerion and Yusnaan main quests a bit, and fought Noel but only managed to get him down to around 25% health. Hopefully that's not bad since it's only Day 2, and maybe I just need to power up a bit more before trying again. At the end of the day I didn't have enough Eradia to extend the world though, so now I'm down to 5 days left.

I feel like I should upload some images for this game, but I haven't done that for a console game before. Are there any tips for getting good box scans or taking screenshots on a PS3?

Update: I played Day 3 and focused on the Yusnaan quests. Finally caught up with Snow with about 7 minutes left on the clock (and very low on EP due to using lots of Chronostasis) and managed to win the boss fight. It helped that there was one of those random item sellers hanging out in dangerous areas right before this boss (unlike the previous one, where I was down to two potions at the start of the fight). Winning the boss fight restored my EP, so I teleported back to Luxerion and ran around on borrowed time from Chronostasis for a bit without managing to really accomplish anything (other than failing a side quest by giving a kid the wrong doll and driving her mad -- oops). Still 5 days remaining! I really like the way the game is structured into days; returning to the Ark each morning provides a natural place to save and take a break from the fast-paced nature of this game.

I continued playing my "slaughter everybody" run up until Hengsha Port. Now, with the Missing Link DLC coming up on the horizon, I suddenly feel strangely uninterested in continuing. Maybe I'll just start over and try for the Pacifist and Foxiest of the Hounds achievements.

The bulk of my time has been dedicated to my game of this as the Ottomans. A little in ArcheAge, and I've started warming up Victoria II (I'm couple years in a game as Austria. Starting to remember how it works.)

I eventually went to hit all my expansionist bullet points. Fought Oman, advanced my borders a little bit more, and then it fell apart in revolts right after the peace. Eastern Africa ended up much more fragmented, but Burgundy ended up with a foothold in the south.

Then I went after Persia, and advanced the border some more to the east.

Both of these wars were remarkable for just how badly their militaries fell apart in combat. Persia's been having trouble for a while, but Oman had a capable military, but was losing combats hard this time.

That left intervening in Europe on the 'to do' list. However, the powerful neighbors (Austria and Bohemia) are very powerful, and are part of the HRE. I was hoping to see a war break out that I could take advantage of, but European politics have been getting fairly stable.

And then my Padisha died, with a 6-month old baby as the heir. With a regency in place, I had to watch a major European war go by, with Muscowy getting the short end of the stick (they've been absorbing a lot of land out east though, mostly at the expense of Persia, who got there first).

Shortly after the regency ended, European politics exploded again. I ended up in a war against Muscovy (I don't remember how it started). And a short time later, Bohemia declared war on Muscovy and Scandinavia, who were also fighting each other. (...I don't know how that works.)

With Bohemia busy, I declared war, hoping to cut them down to size a bit. Austra, the HRE Emperor supported them, and... so did Burgundy. I was hoping for a moderately large war, I got one involving the four biggest powers in the world.

Bohemia was still busy on other fronts, so I was able to eventually drive them back, and force them to release Poland as separate country (which split them in two...). Austria was a bigger problem, but thankfully tended to passively siege my fortresses with his large armies, driving up war exhaustion, while I slooowly moved around with more efficient armies and defeated smaller forces in detail. I eventually ended the war with forcing him to release Transylvania (after reducing his stability twice...).

Since then, I've rebuilt a bit, and picked on the east some more. I'm now at the entrance to India, and Scandinavia has just gained three provinces on the west coast of the subcontinent. (Great Britain's had Mysore for a while now.) It could be exciting there over the next century. Especially as Muscowy and I now share a border east of the Caspian Sea.

Played this and got lots of stuff done on a new factory. I have walled the entire thing in because there's a bunch of aliens that like to attack me just because I may be pumping tons of pollution into their atmosphere. But come on, I've got to clear the landing zone for the colonists! They'll understand when they arrive. Well, they'll be destroyed by the rockets, which is the same thing, really.

I played a fair amount, actually playing this game. It's a slow paced online league, so it doesn't take a lot of time often, but we're ramping up into the off-season so I took a hard look at the OTHER teams and shortlisted a bunch of players that I want to try to get. I don't have a 'dream' player yet, I'm waiting for my scout to look over everything, but I'm looking for a low-salary player just a little bit worse than one of my high-salary guys. My goal is to shed 9 million of payroll or pick up cash to match.

I also went through and changed the logos on all the teams with ugly white space to not have that. Now they are just the logos and no ugly white square. This means that hats can be different colors than white now for those teams, and the team page just looks cleaner. I spent about the same amount of time doing this as I did looking at players.

I finished up the main game of FFXIII. The final dungeon was reasonably designed, but a bit of a slog (maybe I was using the wrong party). My general feeling of "let's hurry up and get this over with so I can get back to my side quests" didn't help. The final boss was only slightly harder than I remembered, mostly because instant death attacks in a game where there's no perfect-defense accessory seem like horrible design (although there aren't many of them, I still had to do one of the endgame fights four times). The plot made slightly more sense this time, although the very endgame who wants whom to do what still seems confused.

I'll wait to post this on the beaten list until I get tired of postgame stuff and can get a final tally on my hours. I'm just north of 50 now (perhaps 5-10 of those were doing missions during the section of the game where one can do missions).

I also played a little more Transistor. It seems like it's thinking about winding down, but I expect I have another hour or two to go (and then on to, or maybe back to, Bastion).

Continued my Hissho game. After retaking my lost systems I made a focussed bash into enemy territory and claimed the Sheredyn home system. I also started to take over more of their space in order to weaken their economic power. After a few systems they offered a cease fire again. Foolishly I agreed not remembering that this would also apply to the Automatons that I was currently obliterating.

Ahh well. I fortified my new systems and started integrating them into my empire. And sure enough a bunch of turns later a new invasion force was appoaching my domain. Which cemented my decison to wipe them out completely. Even though they weren't a real threat they were annoying and distracting. As I started killing off the Automatons I suddenly got a notice that the Sowers were getting close to a Wonder victory. So I withdrew all my disposable ships and headed for their empire. It turned out they had massive amounts of defense fleets at home. And before I could make it there they had won.

Luckily I had savegame from about 20 turns early, where I had to quit the game due to some bug. So I reloaded that and after my conquest of the Sheredyn capital I immediately headed for the Sowers. I was less and less sure that I'd get there in time (remembering the huge defenses). But as I made my way across their space it turned out that their preparations hadn't progressed this far in this timeline. I quickly conquered their capital before any notice about victory wonder popped up. Then I waited for the next turn and wondered why I didn't win. Turned out that the Sheredy and Automatons had recaptured a few of their systems - including the Sheredy homeworld which I had left undefended. I quickly moved back in and handily won the game that time.

I continued to play a bit more to get the research achievements of completing the four branches. And once I had all the tech I built some monster fleets with two dreadnoughts that boosted firepower and about 8 battleships that boosted fleet healing. Then I stomped the Automatons and Sheredyn out of existence in revenge. These two fleets were so overpowered that i merely had to choose the Repair card each phase an not take any damage. The Sowers put up a bit more of a fight. At some point they actually managed to build a fleet that exceeded mine in Military Points but I guess they picked a worse design because I obliterated it easily. And with most of the galaxy under my control they had no chance even IF I had lost lots of ships.

Conclusion: Eradicating all enemies does result in a victory in itself or even an achievement.

Now I'm playing as Horatio, aiming at a Wonder Victory. Managed to get a good hold of my galaxy arm and a decent pick of the central planets. AGAIN up against Sheredyn, Automaton and Sowers.

I bought the new "Bomb Heists" DLC last week, so a fair bit of the time we were playing the two new heists included in that pack: The Bomb: Dockyard and The Bomb: Forest.

One of the games, playing with Kevin, we were attempting to steal the bomb from a train in the forest... and we needed to find some C4 in one of the derailed train wagons... the pair of us ran around and around that map, like a couple of idiots, trying to find the C4... Eventually, about 40 minutes into the mission, Kevin found it by crouching on top of one of the upturned wagons and using a crowbar to open a crate. With so little in the way of ammo between us, and with Kevin pinned down by a bulldozer near our escape plane, I had to quickly ferry the last two parts of the bomb to the plane without getting taken down, so we could escape.

I played more of this in my single-player gaming time... I'm pretty sure I'm not that far from the end of the story quest now, but I've been exploring the wasteland quite a bit instead of getting on with the quest.

I had a pretty scary time in one of the vaults:
Spoiler (click to reveal)
Vault 106 I think it was... where there'd been some sort of experiment with hallucinogenic gas... I kept getting visions, and then to top it off, I could not find the door that lead back to the exit. I kept going back and forth between several rooms, swearing blind that the door should be there... all the while I was having these visions!

The other thing I did was:
Spoiler (click to reveal)
Inadvertently allow the Ghouls into Tenpenny towers to kill everyone. I gained access to the area and was mooching around when I found a computer console, which I hacked... and it allowed me to disengage a lock of some sort, so I did.... next thing a Ghoul pops up and says thanks kid.. now meet me round front... where he gave me a ghoul mask and then proceeded to wipe everyone out!

I'm sure there are plenty more places to visit, but I'm starting to get a bit tired of traipsing around trying to find locations and side-quests, so I may just end it pretty soon.

Some starter decks for this digital CCG game were included in the latest Humble Bundle... but before redeeming those to my steam account, I decided to give the game a try first.

I played several duels against the AI over the weekend, tweaking the basic Alloyin/Nekrium deck that you get to start with, and found it to be most enjoyable. Since then I've redeemed the Dinosaur/Death March packs and tweaked my deck a little more. I also picked up a few legendary cards from boosters and other rewards.

As it turns out, when you win 10 games, you earn a Legendary chest, in which I got another legend and some nice Heroic cards too.

Finally won the "newbie" level game I was playing. Running a "custom" necrophage faction, I finally conquered the last two capital cities. I had almost completed all of the faction questline. So I could have completed the wonder as an alternate victory but I just didn't feel like raising a small army, attaching the orb to a hero and running to a bunch of ruins in my empire. It was far more satisfying to have my geared up overleveled hero smash apart the last Drakken army single handedly ( had all top tier gear + an artifact ring with +30% and regen 3)

I'm not adding this to "games beaten" gl until I finish a "normal" difficulty game. "newbie" difficulty gives resources bonuses to the human player and penalties to the ai - I view it as an extended tutorial.

I have started a custom Cultist game on normal, this time with a small map, so it might not take forever. I want to see if I can make the cultist faction work - they can't build settlers so only 1 city, but you get higher district levels. More cities makes empire planning and luxury resource boosting more expensive, but you get a lot more science and dust from having multiple level 8+ cities. It might be harder to get more strategic resource with only one city, but then I could probably buy what I need from the market, since I would need far less. I chose some peace/treaty positive traits, so I'm going to see if I can win with a peaceful playthrough via wonder/science.

I'm interested in playing ardent mages or dust lords as well, but then I might put this game to rest for a bit since I have that 2015 vg challenge.

I tried out another game on my "challenge" list and found out it is not on vgg! My first game submission! I appearantly need a better description, but it should be up soon

I’m starting to feel like there’re two things in life: Skyrim; and things that aren’t Skyrim, but need to be done anyways. That’s an exaggeration (thank goodness), but I can’t recall the last time I found myself so lost in a game. There’s so much to do, so much to explore and find that it’s hard to stop. It does have the old Elder Scrolls problem of being repetitive and paper thin in places, and the fact that enemies quite clearly level with me is annoying (although I imagine it would be if they didn’t, too? I don’t remember U6 or U7, which are my standards for open-world RPGs, having a problem when monsters didn’t level with the PCs, but they were more about exploration than Skyrim – combat was kind of a side-show in those games and they didn't have much in terms of character development or cool loot), but I find the world rich and diverse enough that it keeps drawing me back. The quests are a large part of the problem. They’re well done enough that I feel bad if I don’t get on them, because they feel like problems I need to help folks with, so then I keep playing, and then I end up in some new part of the map, where the locals have new, pressing problems I feel the need to deal with. And meanwhile, icons on my compass bar constantly taunt me, portending new secrets to be uncovered and power to be unfurled just on the horizon, in part because a good third or so of the dungeons seem to contain something unexpected and unique.

I have, since last week, risen to lead the Companions guild. I view my character, Ghenna the sneaky, bow-using elf as more a hunter (of people) than a rogue, with an affinity for Hircine based on an earlier quest, so Companions seemed like a good fit – better than I knew, it turned out. I’ve since been working my way through the Thieves’ Guild quests, which are much better done than the Companion quests, with an interesting storyline (thus far). I’ve followed the main plot a little bit, so I can Shout now (although I often forget to, and it doesn’t seem to do much). Dragons have been… somewhat anti-climactic. They look cool! But they don’t actually seem to hurt anyone, although they do take a lot of arrows to bring down. I also got married! Yeah, it was stellar. Skyrim seems to have captured all the joy and romance of a cordial business relationship in their notion of marriage which, given what Skyrim gets right and gets wrong, shouldn’t surprise me. Also unsurprising given the way Bethesda seems to treat NPCs is that NPCs seem to be either marryable or not (some kind of marriage: on/off property), and as long as they’re marryable, they’ll marry anyone. The extent to which everyone tells me I'm awesome all the time is annoying. I did some low-weight job for the Thieves' Guild and they think I'm some kind of prodigy. Really, guys? And it's not just them.

I’ve picked up the Dragonborn DLC – we’ll see what happens with that. Hopefully I’ll get to it before I get burnt out. I remember reading years ago that you really need to accept you can’t complete every quest or you’ll burn out on the game, and I have a hard time limiting myself. I'm trying! But it's hard.

Still slogging away.
Got about 3.3K hero souls and have maxed a handful of ancients:
-Vaagur
-Atman
-Dogcog
-Bubos
-Kumawakamaru

I've got a bunch of levels in these guys:
-Chronos , +20 secs boss timers
-Siyalatas , +1000% idle damage
-Mammon , +150% gold
-Fortuna , 1% chance of x10 gold (triggers on chests, bosses and even seasonal popups)

For 500 HS I can buy a new one, these two seem like good options
-Iris
-Argaiv (maybe for later on)

I have not been able to roll:
Libertas - to pair with Siyalatas
Khrysos - To go with Iris
Solomon - to combo with Atman

Fortuna has been the most fun purchase. Yeah, I only get 1% chance of 10x gold right now, but when that triggers off a treasure chest, or a boss, it adds some excitement to the game.

It seems like Iris and Khrysos become critical after playing for a while. Once you can speed through the first 200 levels, it gets annoying starting over at lvl 1. With Iris, you can start at a much higher level and get back to farming hero souls faster.
