I stole this idea (with permission!) from RPGG. I know that Arcadia is a small community and regulars here will probably already know this stuff about each other (or not!) but I thought it would nice to have this for all you regulars and all you newcomers!

Answer the following questions, the idea is to get to know one another and, hopefully, build a better community for all. Answer however you wish or don't answer at all - it's completely up to you!

First, pick an video game to use as your geeklist entry. (If you've never done this before, look for "Add Item" under this header.) and then answer the questions!

Then answer as many of the following questions as you wish:

1. Where do you live?

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!

1. Board Game Publisher: Blizzard Entertainment
RPG Publisher: Blizzard Entertainment
1. Where do you live?

North Yorkshire, UK

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?
Corps_of_Oa relates to the Green lantern Corps, the comic. My avatar is my furbaby Finn. He is called Finn after my husbands favourite Arkham Horror character Finn Edwards.

3. How involved are you on the other Geekdo sites?
I hang out on BGG and RPGG. My contributions however are mainly social. I don't have anything the way of a regular BG group and I do not know of anyone that enjoys pen and paper RPG's. This means useful contributions are a no go, but I still like to be involved. I have also been in a couple of PbF's.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?
I would say since I was about 12 so maybe 16 years on and off.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?
PC all the way!

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?
Sonic the Hedgehog (1991 / 16-bit) without a doubt. It was the first proper game I owned and me and my sister spent hours upon hours playing it.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?
I enjoy MMORPG's mainly - and mainly for the social aspect. I also like co-op games as I like working towards a common goal.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?
I do yes. I am very much a button masher spell caster kinda gal. Never played a first person shooter in my life! I like platform games too but don't play them as much. When I was younger I was really into racing games such as Need for Speed: Carbon

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!
I have no interested in playing Call of Duty or any variant thereof

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!
I am a hoarder, not so much that is a problem at the moment but I fear it maybe one day.

Oh and I have missed out on being VGG Geek of the Week back when I didn't check in everyday. Twice.

EDIT: Just beefing out my answers laugh

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?
I started with Atari when I was about 4-5ish.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?
PC

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?
It wasn't a particular game but gaming in general. Atari was the my first exposure. NES was huge for me growing up. HL2 and Steam got me into PC gaming.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?
I love playing multiplayer with other VGGers. Games are fun. GAMEZ!

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?
I like FPS games after a rough day of work. Sometimes you need to shoot stuff and make things go boom.

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!
Flora's Fruit Farm. It was part of a publisher's pack, I swear!

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!
This is a tough one as I have no idea what you folks would find to be interesting. I guess you will have to join me in VGG chat to truly find out.

1. Where do you live?

Seattle, WA. And I'm not moving anytime soon. You can find me at the Fremont Library as I check out new books (I'm there at least once a week) or the Ballard library where I run a board game night once a month.

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?

Adularia is the scientific (read: Latin) name for moonstone, which was found and named by the Romans in the Adula mountains. I've been using adularia25 as my online handle for my entire life. Chances are if you see that name elsewhere on the web, with that number after it, it's me.

As for my avatar image... well, it is the journal button I created for my portfolio project to get my Game Art and Design degree. It was for a point-and-click adventure game I called the Aralan Adventure. Granted, the project was only the "Demo Version" meaning I only had two puzzles and two areas fully complete. But it was enough to impress the teachers - since I did it all by myself: the coding, the story, the puzzle creation, and the art.

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?

I was involved on both before joining VGG... I'm heavily involved in a lot of PbF games over in RPGG, and I got inspiration for the VGG QOTD from the RPGG QOTD threads. As for BGG, I'm highly active on the design threads and participate in lots of game contests throughout the years.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?

I've been playing for as long as I can remember (my mom is a computer programmer, so we were one of those families that had a computer before it was common). However, if you go by the games that really shaped my love of gaming, I've been playing for about 24 years (circa 1990.)

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?

PC, all the way.

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Cloudy Mountain is pretty much the one I credit getting me into video games, and RPGs. From there I played Treasures of the Savage Frontier and The Four Crystals of Trazere and I never looked back. Myst inspired my love of adventure games, as did The Legend of Kyrandia.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?

The exploration. Creating my own characters and having them run through stories. More exploration. Creating things in games via crafting. The joy that comes from solving a particularly difficult puzzle. The thrill of using powerful magic. Walking through worlds sprung from the imagination of others.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?

I have several genres I tend to stick to more than others. RPGs (specifically western). Adventure games, text or point-and-click. Sandbox games that never end. And mixes of those, like Action Adventure and other hybrids. But I will play pretty much anything.

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!

Happily (or sadly depending on how you look at it) there is no game I wouldn't try. If I was locked alone with a game console of any type and any number of games, I would eventually play them all.

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!

I have worked on two iPhone games to date, one as an artist (Magma Rocks!), and one as a programmer (Mobile Linebacker). I have also worked on a number of Flash games for a website I helped create. I have that rare combination of skills where I am able to see both the details and the big picture - (though to be honest, I prefer the details.) I have also worked in console game testing on a number of games. I still can't tell you about the though, since my NDA for those games isn't up yet. More recently I've worked on Ingress. No, I'm not going to tell you about that either. I worked on the Field Trip app, which isn't a game, but is still in the tech field.

1. Where do you live?

Saskatoon, SK, Canada. However cold it is where you are, it's likely worse here.

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?

My username came from my old, now defunct Hotmail address. I first encountered the word ‘eldritch’ as a last name of the lead singer of a band I liked when I was younger. I thought it was a cool word and liked the idea of using it as a name, so I used it as a name myself. And have continued to do so ever since (no Lovecraftian connection, in this case).

My avatar is the symbol used to represent the virtue of honesty when creating a character in the NES version of Ultima IV. It looked a little like 8-bit art-nouveau, which I thought was pretty cool. Also, at the time I chose it, I was completing a PhD in philosophy, so the conjunction of books and the search for truth represented in the image appealed to me.

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?

I like RPGs (used to play them like crazy), but I don’t have the opportunity to play them anymore - in no small part because I left all my gaming buddies behind when I moved to Saskatoon - so I’m never in RPGG, to my chagrin. I think I used RPGG to track what games I have? I’m not sure. I spend time in BGG for functional reasons, but the VGG discussions are more interesting to me.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?

My Dad got a KayPro II in ’82. Only ASCII characters, but it still had games, and I played ‘em.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?

Depends on the game. I prefer action-oriented games on a console, and more strategy-oriented games on the PC.

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?

There’s a set that generated evolving interests over time: Ladder, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Link, Final Fantasy, Ultima VI, Civilization, and then on into Baldur's Gate, where things stalled out for a while (oh, there was some Guild Wars. But we don't talk about that, or what happened to thousands of hours of my life in '05-'07). Recently (like, 2010), Assassin’s Creed II led me to realize I might be able to enjoy slick, well-produced action games, ushering in a console gaming renaissance for me.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?

A video game presents a stable, interactive construct in the form of a fictional world with its own unique rules. I like exploring that construct and its rules, and having the opportunity to follow my imagination within the limits of those rules.

Also, realistically, the real world is a strange, chaotic place. Video games provide a stable environment that can be controlled and understood relatively easy, and where it is relatively easy to get things done and accomplish what I envision.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?

It’s a mix of almost everything, but a weighted mix. I mostly play RPGs and some (mostly turn-based) strategy games, preferring Western RPGs but actually playing more JRPGs, as I don’t like where Western RPGs have gone over the years (and also don’t have the resources of time and focus to commit to Western RPGs as much - JRPGs are more linear, and thus if I walk away from them, they're easier to get back into).

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!

I’ll probably never try more recent iterations of GTA or any of the big, popular 'bro' culture FPSes (like Modern Warfare). I might be wrong, though.

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!
I have a 2 and a half month baby. Time with her is much more fun than playing video games and so, aside from when she’s sleeping, my video gaming has dropped off of late. She does sleep a lot, though. But I hear that will change over time.

My username is the name of a Star Player for the Dwarf Warhammerers bloodbowl team. My avatar is also a Dwarf.. he is a Dwarven Warrior from Magic The Gathering.

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?
I've been active on BGG since 2004.. I don't spend as much time there as I did before VGG, but I'm still pretty well known.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?
I got a ZX Spectrum in the early 80s and have been gaming ever since.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?
PC.

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?
Not really one game... I had several games for my ZX spectrum, I got a PC and played games once I was in a job. IT was Half Life 2 that got me into Steam though.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?
Exploring a story... the escapism. Having fun with friends.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?
I play a few types, FPS, RPG, Tower Defense, Real Time Strategy. to name a few.

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!
Japanese RPG games.

1. Where do you live?
Portland, Oregon, USA. The cloudy weather suits me just fine, and it's beautiful, but Robert (husband) and I haven't found the kind of community we're looking for. We'll be moving before the year is up.

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?
I was struggling to come up with a username (I take this kind of thing very seriously), so Robert suggested I just pick two words I'm fond of. Chimaera are cool, and since reading the Thrawn trilogy, I've preferred the "ae" spelling (Chimaera is the name of Thrawn's Super Star Destroyer). Purple is my favorite color next to green, and violet is a neat word. I'm pretty happy with my username.

I trawl anime picture sites for images I like, and my avatar is one of those. I like her horns and confident look.

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?
Not much on BGG. I mainly play video games these days since it's hard to find people willing to play our board games, and I generally dislike the BGG community for various reasons, so I've been sticking to VGG more and more.

I don't play RPGs yet, so I don't visit RPGG. Also, several prominent RPGG members were rather rude to Robert and I when we were pushing for change in the moderation system on BGG, so that soured my opinion of the community there.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?
I can't say for sure. I don't have any clear memories of my first video games. I know I had a GameBoy in elementary school, and I played some PC games sometime around then, too. I've been video gaming for approximately twenty years.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?
The Xbox 360 is where we do most of our video gaming right now, and likely will be for a while, although we're looking into getting a gaming PC. We're not fans of Xbox or Microsoft, but the 360 had more games we wanted when we were looking to get a new system.

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?
It'd have to be several since I can't remember my first. I'm more grateful that I grew up in a family that exposed me to that kind of thing. Having found gaming, I can't imagine life without it.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?
I enjoy interaction heavy challenges and activities with variety, fantasy, and engaging thinking.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?
A mix. My favorite genres are fighting, racing, platforming, strategy, shmups, action RPGs, and horror.

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!
Any of the Telltale games. Even if they were free, I'm just not interested in the experience they offer. If I want a story, I go to books or movies/shows, not video games, and they don't offer any real gameplay. As much as I dislike military shooters, turn-based non-tactical RPGs (ie, Final Fantasy), beat 'em ups, sports games, sim driving games, online-only games (MMOs and such), and puzzle games, I can respect them for being games, and would try them given an easy enough opportunity. Telltale's "interactive" stories don't have any of what I want out of video games.

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!
I'm bisexual, polyamorous, and completely sex positive. I approve of sexualized women and men in gaming (and everywhere), although I agree with those who want more variety.

1. Where do you live?

De Haan, a small city at the Belgian coastline.

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?

My username is the name of my first ad&d character, he was my first rpg character I ever played. I didn't even know there were other rpg's.

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?

I'm highly involved over on RPGG, a bit less on BGG. On BGG I follow certain games and am active in Women and Gaming. On RPGG I'm all over the place. Altough this was taken back a bit since I became a VGG Admin.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?

I remember playing my first game when I was 8 or 9 years old. True gaming actually began with my gameboy but I was never a hardcore videogamer. But I have always enjoyed playing videogames.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?

I prefer playing games on my PC

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?

I think several games are to blame for that.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?

It gives me a chance to game when I'm on my own. I love gaming, be it boardgames, rpg's or videogames. Videogames are there for the moments I can't play any of the others. Not that it's second choice I actually invest more time in this then in the other two.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?

I have a couple of genres, but lately I have been spreading my wings thanks to VGG and it's community!

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!

Left for Dead, I hate zombie games.

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!

1. Where do you live?
Gainesville, Virginia

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?
This and this.

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?
RPGG, not at all. Live RPGs just aren't my scene.
On BGG, I'm almost as active as I am here, particularly in some specific game forums and on FTL... but BGG's a much bigger pond, so it's harder to get to know folks nearly as well or interact nearly as often as on VGG.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?
About 26 years.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?
I'm now almost 100% PC.

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?
Many, but the Super Mario/Duck Hunt combo cartridge that was packaged with the NES was probably my first.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?
The challenge, the escapism, the beauty, the community, the sense of accomplishment, the emergent narratives, and large explosions.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?
I play mostly strategy games, but am definitely branching out now into many more genres as well.

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial? Nah, I'd even play that just to say that I had.

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?
I'm slightly involved in all three domains.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?
Since 1979... so close to 40 years.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?
PC, although I do use a DS.

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?
Not a single game, but certainly the Atari 2600 system (actually a clone).

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?
Solo play.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?
RTS is my genre of choice.

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!
Anything from the Leisure Suit Larry franchise...

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!
I wish there was something interesting to divulge... I'm just a regular joe with a regular job. I'm your average white suburbanite slob. I like football and NASCAR and books about war. I've got an average house with a nice hardwood floor. My wife and my job, my kids and my car. My feet on my table and a Cuban cigar.
(with apologies to Denis Leary)

I have contributed a lot on the BGG side and my finest accomplishment would be this Microbadge: Picture of the Year - 1st place. Not so much on the RPGG side.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?
35 Years. I used to visit arcades long before home system were available.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!
I don't think this one that I would NEVER try.

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!
I used to make board games as a kid with my army men, plywood and a d6. Oh, and my son just became a fireman!!!

1. Where do you live?
The NW corner of Massachusetts, as far from Boston as one can be in-state, just over the border from VT/NY.

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?
I've used Osirus as a handle before I even had Internet. Yes, it's intentionally spelled with a "u", because I'm trying not to have the name of a god.

My avatar is a caricature of me that a friend and talented artist once drew for me. I tell everyone it looks more like me than I do.

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?
I am not on RPGG. (Although my D&D rap video may have been posted there once.)

I am less involved on BGG than I used to be. Most general threads I felt like nobody cared what I had to say so there was little point in my posting there. These days my BGG use mainly consists of RSP (where nobody cares what I have to say but at least I recognize most of the posters), the Meatballs GeekChatLeague (the GCLs were really a brilliant idea to create small sub-communities for BGGers to get to know each other), and posting boardgame reviews.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?
Roughly 30 years now. Started with old shareware DOS games, moved up to King's Quest, eventually Carmen Sandiego, and then finally the NES hooked me forever.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?
These days it's my PC, thanks to Steam. Prior to 2011, it was Gamecube and PS2.

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?
I don't credit any game in particular! I've been playing games farther back than I remember, and while the first games I fanboyloved were Zelda and Final Fantasy for the NES, I'd been playing video games for years before that.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?
It can be incredibly immersive -- as much beyond movies as movies can be beyond books in terms of putting you in the world.

It provides what life doesn't -- clear goals, rewards and positive feedback at progress benchmarks, well-defined and attainable victory, limitless possibility to be someone else.

It can be played any time, paused any time, resumed any time -- I love boardgaming, but nobody living near me wants to come over and play a boardgame with me for 4 hours straight starting at midnight. And nobody wants to play a boardgame with me for 17 minutes, then stop for two hours because I feel like doing something else, then resume right when I want to.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?
I play much more RPGs and RPG hybrids than every other genre combined, but I'll play occasional random fun stuff from whatever genre whether it's CCGs, multiplayer madness, or what have you. (I tend not to like FPS, though, unless it's really an RPG.)

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!
Three Feet Deep. But only because it doesn't exist -- I would love nothing better than to try it!!

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!
I am a writer with a humor column in my local paper and a few books under my belt ranging from Rhode Island trivia to a rhyming version of the Torah/Bible. If any of this sounds interesting, my website is www.RisingPun.com

Video Game: BioShock
1. Where do you live? Minnesota

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar? I love Wolves.

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG? Not as much on RPGG anymore even though it's a really great community for the most part, a tiny bit on BGG and a TON on VGG, which is my fave

4. Roughly how long have you played video games? Since the beginning, my friend. Since the beginning.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming? PC, of course. Though the PS4 is my second favorite!

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several? Early arcades started it all along with Pong and Atari 2600.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming? The awesome settings, a really great AAA title with tons of polish and great graphics and voice-acting.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix? Not really, I play a mix though I do like FPS games and RTS games a lot more lately...

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try! Probably most of the MOBAs, I don't really consider them games, per se. Also the GTA stuff, they feel so crummy and low-budget to me, meh! Finally, never, ever HALO. Friends don't let friends play Halo, is a great motto to follow!

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself! I can juggle and ride a unicycle. I played semi-pro soccer in England and once wrote for PC Gamer magazine. That's the extent of interestingness, I'm afraid.

14. Video Game: Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City [Average Rating:8.24 Overall Rank:1393]
Video Game: Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City
1. Where do you live?
Ireland but I have a lot of family in the States so there is some juggling around.

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?
Kezle is my usual username and what I go by in most places around the glorious interweb. It all started in an infamous game of hangman with my siblings (who protested greatly but in my defence they should have realised playing with a kid who was too young to spell properly was probably a bad idea). My avatar is just something I made after hoarding GG and finally buying one only to realise I had no idea what to use.

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?
BGG is what got me into board games and the first part of the Geek I discovered. I'm mainly a lurker over there, especially after discovering RPGG. RPGG got me into RPGs and I am very active in PbF games and slightly less so on the wider forums.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?
Pretty much my whole life. My older brother is quite a bit older than me (long story with a happy ending, my mom was unable to have more kids for years after him until my sister and I showed up laugh) and he used to play video games with his friends when I was still teeny and could only watch. Sometimes they would let my sister or I hold a controller so we thought we were playing. It was natural from there to start playing games once I was old enough to realise the controller was unplugged . Ah, fifteen minute turns each on the gameboy during long road trips, those were the days...

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?
I mainly play on handhelds (DS, 3DS, PSP) due to their portability and surprisingly great selection of games (Etrian Odyssey, I rest my case). I recently got a PS3 though so I'm branching out and hopefully when my old laptop finally goes bust I'll be able to get a PC capable of running games.

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?
I mainly credit Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City, despite the fact that I had been playing video games for years by the time it came out. I was at an all time low when it came to gaming and had nearly given it up altogether when I was gifted a DSi and thought I might as well see if any new games were out. I stumbled on Etrian Odyssey III and was blown away. It was the first RPG I ever played and after that there was no going back.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?
Being able to game when I'm on my own is nice. I love all kinds of gaming but video games were my first love. I enjoy creating a character, building a party, exploring, facing challenges, solving puzzles, beating bosses, and then doing it all again in a new world with new rules.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?
I will play a bit of everything but my favourites are turn-based RPGs and strategy games. I do play action RPGs and platformers and such but I admit I tend to be crap at anything requiring button mashing combos or lightning fast reactions.

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!
It's not easy to think of one off hand as I will try just about anything. I don't know, I'm not a fan of games that make you the villain.

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!
I play football (the kind where you actually use your feet), build Lego, and drum horribly on a regular basis. I also write and illustrate my own stories for fun.

God bless,
Kezle

1. Where do you live?

On a farm about 2 hours north of Toronto, near Owen Sound, Ontario

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?

That is my real name, which is the same as my Steam name.
The avatar is the Hodkinson coat of arms.

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?

I havent really played RPG games since AD&D in university but I do enjoy joining RPGG's special drives and helping out for rep images. I board game a lot and love it a lot. I wish I could wargame more but I lack another player and don't feel the love of wargaming online or solo. I like classic games more than the Euros, although I own lots of both.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?

I started when I came across Pong in an airport as a child. I've played SpaceWar in an arcade. So I've played videogames for 40 years at least.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?

I adored arcade games in the late 1970s -- early 1980s. For consoles, I liked the NES and Super NES but liked the PS2/3 more. I preferred PCs over consoles, which solidified when Civ 1 came out in 1991 and more so with Steam digital downloads.

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?

The most important game for me was Space Invaders in 1978. For consoles, it was Romance of the Three Kingdoms in 1986. And for PC, it was Civilization in 1991. StarCraft in 1999 was the perfect LAN game for me. Portal (2007) was the game that led me more recently to Steam and digital downloads.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?

Strategy testing and atmosphere.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?

I prefer Strategy games, including RTS Strategy and Tower Defence. Although if a game comes out that shakes up conventions or has something special, I'd play that for sure.

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!

Snuggle Truck! No, I don't think there is one.

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!

I started a PhD at Harvard in medieval Chinese history but dropped out after a year. Video games are not to blame for this.

1. Where do you live?
Hamilton, New Zealand. It's a small city surrounded by dairy farms.

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?
I actually coined the nickname for an online dating site. It was originally manuka tea, which is a kind of bush tea made from the leaves of the manuka tree. I wanted something unique with a New Zealand flavour (ha ha). When I was forced to make a new nickname I simply changed it to manuka joe, where joe is the slang word for coffee. To be honest, I'm much more of a coffee drinker (strong and black). My avatar is the jersey of the local provincial rugby team (Waikato), although I am not a big rugby fan, and they haven't been doing as well as their professional counterparts (The Chiefs).

3. How involved are you on the other Geekdo sites?
I used to be busy on BGG for many years (as shown by my patron badges), but in the last couple of years I have moved to VGG. It's my number one internet community.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?
I bought a second hand Wii in October 2012 and the rest is history. So not very long. Although I did have a home computer (Microbee, then Acorn Electron) and play the odd computer game as a child/teenager.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?
I love consoles. I love my Wii (which can play Gamecube games). This year I also bought a Wii U, and also a Playstation 3, which I also love.

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?
The first game I played on my Wii was The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and it was a brilliant introduction to the hobby. It is still my favourite game. I love the environments, the puzzles, and juxtaposition of mundane village life against the threat of evil, the character of Midna, the feeling that it is a real place.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?
Escaping to a magical world.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?
My preferred games are a pretty specific type. I like action adventures (e.g. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Beyond Good & Evil, Metroid Prime Trilogy), modern JRPGs (e.g. Xenoblade Chronicles), and 3D platformers (e.g. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (Wii)). I don't really like 2D platformers, FPS/TPS shooters, or anything 8/16-bit. Edit: Actually I've recently got into the Mass Effect Trilogy and the Uncharted series, so I guess I can do shooters after all!.

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!
Anything with horror or realistic violence.

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!
I am a single parent with two children aged 12 and 10. I have a PhD in applied mathematics. I play guitar reasonably well. I can speak Chinese.

1. Where do you live?
Southern California. As of this writing, that's in the USA.

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?
Once upon a time, I decided that I needed a username (because there were these "BBS" things), and the two choices seemed to be combinations of cool-sounding words or literary references. To my knowledge, my username is not a literary reference; if the words don't strike you as cool-sounding, you may draw your own conclusions as to my age at the time. (I'm amused and a little heartened to see that I'm apparently not the only one to have chosen a username this way).

The avatar is one of my few forays into Photoshop. If there were a "hitchhiking okay" sign, that is what it would look like (based on similar signs from the US manual for such things).

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?
I read a fair bit on BGG, but as I don't play so many board games any more (most of my regular groups have fled the state) it's rare that I feel I have anything of value to contribute to the collective wisdom over there.

I've looked at RPGG a small handful of times. I wish the site well, but pencil and paper RPGs are not something I've gotten into (though some of the systems are intriguing).

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?
Thirty years.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?
PC, these days.

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?
No. They are and were pretty much all shiny.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?
Complex systems. From time to time somebody does something interesting with it as a storytelling medium.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?
In theory that genre would be JRPGs or strategy games, but I dabble in a lot of them.

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!

1. Where do you live?
Switzerland. At the border to Liechtenstein.

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?
It is not my first username. My earliest years on the internet were spent under a different name that was a play on a Star Trek character. At some point I came up with "Kempeth" as a character name in various games and I just kinda stuck with it. It probably helped that I used this as my main character name in EVE Online and that when I was asked about my name at a convention and answered "David" everyone said: "No. Your character name!" So I guess from that point on I WAS Kempeth.

My avatar is a picture of our last cat named Radscha (Child-Germanized version of Aladdin's tiger) who was a wonderful companion to our family for many years and who would often sleep on my bed while I was staying closer to work during the week.

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?
I'm frequently active on BGG but my focus shifts greatly from time to time. The roleplaying side never really caught my attention though.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?
Before I could read or write. My father was very much into computers. My earliest video gaming memories are of my father's work computer, sorting empty and full apples by pressing the corresponding keys and some some kind of olymic games collection with kayaking. I know from stories that I've used to draw things on my fathers Amiga2000 having been told to save my work by clicking the right icon and mashing the keyboard for a bit. And I'm reasonably sure the Apple predates the Amiga.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?
These days it's the PC simply because it has way more selection and choice than anything else. But I'm also pretty fond of my time with various Nintendo consoles. The gameboy was so popular that my mother regularly had to threaten to take it away because I was playing it in bed.

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?
I credit my dad, for passing on the gaming gene to me.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?
Many things. The challenge and the rush of excitement, the escapism and ability to conjure wonderful worlds, the creativity that creators put into their games, and the way you can share all of that with likeminded people all over the world.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?No. There are too many fun games in too many interesting genres for that. I enjoy RTS, TBS, FPS, RPG, Sims, TD, even racing to some degree, massive games, small games, hard games, more casual games. Single player, Coop, rarely competitive though.

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!
Rambo: The Video Game although the various video reviews are hilarious.

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!
I grew up as a pretty introverted child, loving computers and games as a way to have fun without being dependent on the whims of others.

Only relatively recently I've come to fully realize how shallow it all feels without others to share it with. Since then I've started to develop interests that sometimes feel like the polar opposite of my pervious identity (like my programming job vs taking massage courses). It's a fascinating experience.

1. Where do you live?
The Netherlands, South, next to the German border. 1 hour drive form Essen (Spiel, yay!)

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?
My username is based on the evil general from Willow (movie). Loved that character. It's been my game name for ages, starting in the days when not much more characters fitted a high score list. Now mainly used as online username. The underscores are the effect of making an user account and promptly forgetting my password. It was less work to create a new one.
My avatar is a self made animated version of the logo of my kobudo club. (Martial Arts school)

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?
Almost all my time now goes to VGG.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?
Since 10 or so? So over 30 years.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?
PC. Without a doubt.

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?
Several. It started with the arcade machine of Centipede (1980). Then Space Invaders on a hand held. After that I got a Commodore64 with 100s of pirated games. Frogger being the first.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?
Playing online with friends. Or just "turning off" your everyday stuff and immersing in another world.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?
Mix: FPS, strategy and flight sims. But with masses of great Indie games, I play more and more genres.

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!
GTA-V. Though I have no problem playing a terrorist or so in some FPS, shooting opponents, I have no need for excessive violence or sexual abuse. GTA-V seems to have both.
- O, and games with Undead. Don't watch those movies, either.

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!
In my spare time I'm a martial arts teacher, teaching karate, kobudo (Okinawa weaponry) and kenjutsu (Japanese swordfighting). I was part of a group of 5 giving a great "koryu" martial arts demo in Paris in front of 12.000 people & French TV.

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?
I'm bad with user names - mine is just meant to show my enthusiasm & support for games.
My avatar changes with the season but it is always Calvin and Hobbes.
C & H is pretty much the best thing a guy (or girl?) can read at any age. It reminds me to be young at heart and appreciate what I have around me all the time. Oh, and to enjoy the moment. Calvin's active imagination has always been inspiring to me - countless uses for a cardboard box, etc.
3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?
eh, BGG feels so crowded and I have ended up being more of a board game collector than player. RPGG is foreign to me. I have never RPGd, I think I'd like to try it, but I know that will never happen. Sometimes, I put all of the Star Wars RPG content (FFG) in my cart at CSI.com and think about buying it so I can try it sometime on a rainy day... but then I realize I will never have the people to play with (or time.)
4. Roughly how long have you played video games?
Since I was old enough to punch keys and move a mouse!
5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?
PC! Although I do like N64 for a social gathering - it is the best non-pc videogame system. Mario Kart 64, Mario Tennis, Smash Bros, etc.
6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?
Several, Dad was able to get old computers from work (they used to do that in "Corporate America") so I grew up on Civ, Civ2, X-Com, D&D Gold box, Fantasty Empires, Master of Magic, Master of Orion.
7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?
The ability to get completely sucked in and love every minute.
8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?
I generally like Turn-based or "relaxed" play. So 4x strategy is good, RPGs are good too. Sometimes I like some mindless action so I'll do a FPS or DOTA2(not as mindless.) I guess Mix. I have never beaten a platformer like any Mario game. I sat down recently with Supermario 3 and played for a few hours and got no where - those games just don't click with me. I hate games with time-pressure like modern RTS like Star Craft 2 - missions where it's "tough" because you are on the clock. My life is on the clock, games should not be. Oh and avoid games with lots of apm + micro-mgmt.
9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!
Any platformer after Mario (I already tried that.) Call of Duties, most modern FPS. Unreal tournaments fill that niche for me.
10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!
I'm a dad! (As of November.) Turned my world upside-down, it is amazing but a lot of work/time. Now more than ever "the days are just packed."

1. Where do you live? Hometown is Eighty Four, Pennsylvania. It's an hour's drive South of Pittsburgh. Most days I am there or in Monessen with my girlfriend, which is a half hour to the east of my hometown.

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar? I may or may not have a Red beard. I may or may not be in 84, and I might be a Tolkien fan.

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG? Not as much as once I was before the girlfriend. I take care of most things around her house, and I look in on my septuagenarian parents and their house, all while she teaches, works a second job, and volunteers. So as far as the Geek goes, I'm only a little bit of cameo/npc/comic relief around all three domains. Really, the best way to measure it is I am less involved than Rudy.

I guess other folks are mentioning such things, so once I was the RPGG geek of the week. Was at both new Geek sections from day one of each, way in the background.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games? Since at least 1981 With the Atari 2600 and Pac-Man

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming? Self-built, Desktop PC, but Android Tablet is doing it's small share. Strong nostalgia for Nintendo NES.

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several? There have been a bunch. Pac Man And Donkey Kong got me to sit in front of the screen, But it was Wizardy on the Apple II that shaped what I want in a game. Nintendo captured my generation, and The Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest series of games always got my attention. From there I got way into the Infinity Engine RPGS like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming? That all problems have a solution, and the solutions are do-able in a matter of hours or days. Life should be so easy.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix? Mostly RPGs because I need turn based or pauseable real time combats. A few Hack and slashes make it in under the wire, and so do puzzle games and Pinball simulators.

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try! Anything locked into a first person camera angle, or a game where the camera needs to be moved around a bunch by the player. Carsick in 15 minutes at any refresh rate. So any Shooter is right out of the question. SO wanted to love Journey. Such a different game. It looks stunning. But felt barf-ly in no time when I tried it. Broke my heart.

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself! I'm an Identical twin. Goodness help that guy, because he has to look like me. What a poor bit of luck for him.

Where do you live?
Sweden

What is there to know about your username/avatar?
It's a strange guy from my favourite Japanese animated TV show. He's the guy who's writing the story, but he's never in it. Some details of my life make me feel a connection to that.

How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?
On RPGG, not at all, though I'd like to, because I like pen and paper RPGs. I just never get to play them.
On BGG I'm sickly involved, but currently focusing on VGG. I'm using this site as my social network thingie, posting random stuff and thoughts.

Roughly how long have you played video games?
About 30+ years. Probably almost 35.

Which is your preferred platform for gaming?
Currently, it's the Wii U, because I like the format, the relaxed atmosphere in the games and I really adore the extra screen and its possibilities.

Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?
No. As soon as I saw a video game it was enough talk, not enough gaming.

I've cooled down during the years and hads ups and downs, sometimes years with not major video game playing, but I always come back to them.

What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?
Sitting down in the sofa after a day's work, or during the weekend, and just relax and enjoy myself. This is probably partly why handhelds never do it for me.

Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?
I mix. But I avoid a couple of genres. FPSs and RTSs.

Name a video game that you will NEVER try!
No such principle.

Tell us something interesting about yourself!
I speak Japanese.
And I've met ZUN (creator of the Shrine Maiden franchise).

1. Where do you live?

Sunnyvale, CA; AKA Silicon Valley

2. What is there to know about your username/avatar?

The username is a random word/name I came up with for a character right before getting involved with this 'internet' thing. Much less likely to be used than 'JamesL' or some such.

The avatar is from a character I voiced for an animation. He was designed around me, so it is me in a very real sense.

3. How involved are you on BGG and RPGG?

(buffs nails) First trifecta Geek of the Week.

Currently, my BGG involvement is mostly being subscribed to the Wargaming section, which keeps the inbox over-full. RPGG I peek in on sometimes, but I've got enough going on that I'm not doing much in RPGs right now, despite desires to the contrary.

4. Roughly how long have you played video games?

Oh... I suppose since about '80.

5. Which is your preferred platform for gaming?

PC. I don't get the attraction of buying a specialized gaming machine when I've already got a good generalist machine anyway. Portables make more sense, but I still hardly ever use them (and now that I've got a Surface Pro 2, they're a bit redundant too).

6. Do you credit one game for getting you into gaming or several?

Hmm. I suppose Snit's Revenge! and War at Sea got me into gaming. Once into gaming, there was no way I wasn't also getting into computer games as well. However, SSG had the biggest overall impact on my early electronic gaming career with titles such as Reach for the Stars and Warlords.

7. What things do you enjoy most about video gaming?

Mental engagement and stimulation. Problem solving, comprehension and mastery.

8. Do you tend to stick to one genre of video gaming (i.e FPS) or a mix?

I am mostly into strategic-scale games. But I also enjoy RPGs, and like to play them multiplayer. I wish there were more (non-massively) multiplayer RPGs out there.

I also am interested in game design in general, and am interested in anything that is truly different, though I usually don't get around to actually trying them.

9. Name a video game that you will NEVER try!

There's very little I'd point-blank refuse if offered, and nothing else is going on. But I don't like horror, and will probably never try a survival horror game. MOBAs sound too stress-inducing, and not that interesting. I have a sub-par Dex score, so anything action-based gets short-shrift with me (I don't care for platformers, and start complaining when elements of them start showing up in other games).

10. Tell us something interesting about yourself!

Uh....

I'm a child of the (boardgaming) hobby.

I have a blog as a substitute for actually writing.

I started a business last year. One published item so far.

Pick one. shake
