Here i'm going to keep track of my progress in the BGG Weight Loss Challenge.

The cold facts. I'm overweight and I don't look great in my clothes due to the recent development of a belly. I'm also chronically unfit and have a health condition that can be improved by exercise (diagnosed last Tuesday). I also totally believe that a healthy lifestyle is better across the whole spectrum of quality of life.

Weight: Overweight.
Physique: Lacks definition with belly.
Fitness: Chronically unfit.

Some basic thoughts:

Overall:
I'm not going to worry about weight but instead focus more on sustainability and improving my health. I'd also like to improve my fitness and physique with regular exercise.

1. Exercise at least 3 days a week, with the intention of increasing the intensity of activity on a weekly basis. Each day do 30 press-ups and 40 reps with weights. Ideally Find time to do yoga.

2. Try to track things - Exercise, Diet, Sleep and Mood.

3. I'm going to look at my diet and serving controls.
a) Less caffeine (1 coffee a day - 2 max). No shop bought ones.
b) Fewer deserts (2 a week max).
c) More fruit and vegetables.
d) A concerted effort to eat breakfast.
e) Booze cut right down. (6 units a week max). No drinking to get drunk, I will hand in my Scottish passport (This is ethnocentric I'm aware... being Scottish is about doing something unhealthy to excess so substitute with chips, cigarets, crisps, Irn-bru etc).
g) Be acutely aware of liquid calories. Not just fizzy pop but also cappuccinos which are insanely calorific, I now note.

4. Be pro-active and productive.

5. Due to bigger health issues develop and normalise a regime around supplements and pills.

Goals:

1. Get to health weight.
2. Look and feel good in clothes. Would like to lose 2 inches from waist.
3. Get fit and develop a sustainable exercise regime.
4. Do yoga or/and meditation.
5. Develop a more positive response to stress and more productive approach to tasks.
6. Sign up for classes in something.

Supplements:

Kinda a placebo you know works... (some of these I've been told to take by medical folk.)

Omega 3,6,9
Multivitamins
Vitamin D3

You're not tracking carbs?

Yeah, I'm not bothering to radically change my diet (I don't want to work that hard, as BJ kinda says). I don't really eat that much carbohydrate anyway and I'm not that concerned about losing weight as I am about staying healthy, energised and creating something sustainable.

You're not drinking - are you a turtle?

I am drinking and trying to drink more, I'm just not noting it down. Lots of water and Ginger or peppermint tea.

Seriously keeping hydrated will:
1. Stop you confusing being dehydrated with being hungry
2. Can make you feel fuller
3. Aid digestion.
4. Make you think, feel and be better.

What made you fat?

My diet nutritionally is pretty excellent but, well for a while, I've been blaming my weight on being middle aged and my metabolism slowing down, occasionally I've blamed it on my lover's sweet tooth.

Nah, I'm fat because:

1. I have two+ cappuccinos a day - I kinda assumed it was just skimmed-milk they were adding and thought they were smaller than they were and I always say no tanks to the chocolate sprinkles.
2. When I make a sandwich I make two sandwiches and eat both. It was news to me that a sandwich is just 2 slices of bread... that's half a sandwich.

3. I love the booze and always have done. When some folks say one more drink I say I'll have 10 more and see how I feel. (That sounds bad, however, I don't drink very often, but when I do!)
4. I do most of the cooking and really enjoy it but I make enough for 4+ people for a household with two and it all gets eaten. The idea of left overs sickens me. "Yesterdays meal today!@ What are we carrion!?".

5. Exercise - I think I stopped exercising when I was 11. Why? I don't know. Less emphasis put on running in daily life.
6. Ah my passion for pursuing gout and being a foodie. Now I've never had gout but my diet is rich in everything associated with it. Some people would kill for love, others money or drugs; I'd kill for cheese... again.

* Just in work in the morning.
* Went to the game shop at lunch. They've remodelled it since I was last there. Went to spend money - left with nothing. 8th unsuccessful trip in a row... It's well stocked and run but my collection is too large and I refuse to pay double what I'm used to paying for the modern batch of big games with more plastic but no more game.

Ramblings:

* Oh boy. That was a terrible week.
* I'm tired and grumpy and getting sick; if I'm not mindful.
* My coping strategies have included: self-destuctive behaviour, worrying, drinking and being silently grumpy.
* Today I had the day off and was grumpy, to my horror and shame, because my lover didn't have to go into work as early as normal. Being a reasonable human being was too much. I made scrambled eggs and honest to got got really pissed off because bagels have 'Fing holes in them!!!'. My lover put some prosciutto over the hole.

** And breathe. I'm going to recommit, implement some positive copping strategies and be a better friend to myself.

Mood: Down but starting to float up.

Week 5 Overview:

Well I'm pretty down this week, so I can't really judge. Poor coping strategies this week but overall not that bad. The coping strategies are not sustainable nor positive - so my commitment is for positive thinking and positive coping strategies this coming week.

1. Weight loss: 1kg - super! Got rid of the weight I previously had put on.

2. Exercise: very Low - 20mins on bike and 1 session of weights.

3. Fruit and Veg: May not have made my 5 a day. Didn't do well on eating fruit as snacks.

4. Caffeine: 3.2 Coffees a day. (That's over my target but better)

5. Alcohol:

Oh... that's quite low. It's clearly a bigger thing in my head and I suppose my drinking hasn't been social this week. My commitment for next week is to have less than 10 units or less and only 2 of them non-social.

6. 7 Probiotic food sessions.

7. Missed planned breakfast - 4 days.
(This demonstrates an unhealthy week.)

(somewhat flippant but I'm not wild about it):

Forgive yourself, work hard on healthy living, be positive - take control.

* Exercised tonight to make some sort of amends an an apology to my lover.

Rambling:

* Hmmm had to change my plans due to not getting to sleep until 5am. My lover and I auditioned some strong coffee yesterday... so I'm blaming that rather than anxiety. Bad weather comes and goes - I'll wait it out.
* My folks are in town so we went out to a restaurant that I've wanted to try for a while.
* A very nice night. On the way home my lover and I spied a micro-brewery pub that we've never been able to get in. Had an enjoyable... though not healthy wee night cap.

Rambling:

* Fair working day but I am knackered.
* Storm Doris is coming and the weather is bonkers. Speculative Snow, Blizzard Rain, Tempest Wind and Atonic Sunshine.
* Spent 4 minutes looking at porridge. Bought 4 types; suspect that they'll all taste about the same.
* Very tired, so tired in fact that I ate a small(ish) ethical chocolate bar.

* I reckon I was very good. The chocolate was really just as an emergency precaution. Avoided an extra coffee I didn't need. Though about chips and Chinese takeaway and then went home and cooked stirfry.

As a reward I require an airborne bescarfed rabbit on an owls back!

* Busy day at work. House to myself as my lover is down in Liverpool.
* Made a big push on having 'healthy' fajitas... very hot and not very satisfying without the sour cream. Might try creme fraiche or greek yogurt next time. Also cut myself down to 2 rather than 3.

* A quiet Sunday all by myself.
* Call it recovery but with a good bit of housework and exercise.
* Been playing Stellaris.

Week 6 Overview:

Aye a better week. Still a bit of a muddle but its been better.

1. Weight loss: 1.7kg - That's fine but not really healthy. Weight wise I'm pretty much where I want to be. So I need to refocus on energy and fitness.

2. Exercise: Low - 60mins on bike and 2 session of weights.

3. Fruit and Veg: May not have made my 5 a day. Didn't do well on eating fruit as snacks.

4. Caffeine: 3.0 Coffees a day. (Target)

There's another challenge (for the record no I've never completed one but hey ho).

I've joined to keep fit and focussed.

Week 1

That was the week that was.

My lover went away. I went feral but as always cleaned up all of the evidence. Unfortunately, until the bloody washing machine stopped draining as she arrived. We gingerly tackle it and I’m caught bonnie. A bottle cap blocking the pump. HOW!!! I wonder how that got in there?! I have no idea…

Of course, despite being clear, the machine decides to refuse to drain for the next three days instead boasting a flashing display and a F506 error and I work my way though testing a number of hypotheses with it literally working and failing on its on whim and developing other fake news symptoms.

Oh as for the diet, well I’m really not committed at the moment. So I’ve had lots of cheese, booze and a Chinese takeaway. On top of the old MS has become quite the drag these days, seeing me not working and a fortnight ago too weak to hold a rule book open. Ho Hum. So exercise has very much been on my to-do list. (although I’ve done lots of squats this week tinkering with the washing machine), I finally get out on Saturday walking in the sun via the river to the pub. We do the same but drink more on the Sunday.

Scores are in and bizarrely and quite unfairly I have a big loss. I have no idea how this works and while good news at the mo, I don’t have the satisfaction at earning it and it may well go up when I do work hard at it. Curious and curiouser.

Week 2

Well this was the lost week. I ended up with a cold or cold like symptoms and had to pretty much do very little. This didn't result in any real though about healthy eating or exercise. I survived on a diet of salami, cheese and wine. whistle
