Have not played videogame much for two months, somehow I was bored of it. But this weekend I played just a little Elder Scrolls Online, and it was the first time I logged into the Tamriel Unlimited edition. There was much to do here with the character, because all the skillpoints now were reseted, and to uses 150 skillpoints again takes awhile. Have finished the mainquest of the game, and not sure what to do next.

Tried this for a couple of hours and had great fun. Can't see the game being extremely giving in the future, considering I experimented with most. This game lasted for me for about 10 hours, of which more than half of that was 2 player. Still, good worth for the money.

Fired this up (Commodore 64) and played for a tiny bit, an hour or so. It's a great game, but the controls are still as tacky as they always have been, which seriously detracts from the game.

Had a go together with a pal. It's a really good game, but seriously… a timer? I mean, a TIMER? What's this thing with timers? What on earth makes a game better because it stresses you with a timer? Come ON!

What's really fun is the 2 player mode, so why is the 2 player mode so limited? How about having a Survival 2 player mode? What about an Arcade 2 player mode?

Great game, but some simple menu changes and settings changes would have had it from "great" to "really awesome".

Talk about chained potential.

There's a really fun core to this game and its hampered by Nintendo being a decade behind the curve when it comes to features.

I absolutely hate that there's no OS-level party chat, no Pro Controller support, that I can't change loadouts between deaths, that I can't even change loadouts between matches without leaving online matchmaking all together, that I can't even see what my teammates weapons are until I'm locked into a match (hope everyone didn't pick rollers! Gonna have a bad time!), and the list goes on.

This could almost be excusable if it had the reliable Nintendo content to back it up, but it doesn't. Single Player lasted just 5 hours or so, with only a handful of memorable moments. Multiplayer launched with only 5 maps (now 6 after an update) and every 4 hours 2 of those maps are "in rotation" and are the only ones you can play during that block of time. Awful.

Nintendo has announced regular content updates over the coming months, but this is an incredibly disappointing package for the full $60 price tag -- 20 more than in other territories.

Perhaps this will be worth your money after the big update in August, but I just can't recommend this currently.

I bet you're shocked to see this entry!

I poked my head into Skellige isles to pick up a crossbow from the free DLC this week.

I'm starting to genuinely wonder how I'm going to play all the games I want to play coming out soon.

Been playing this with a flight stick and enjoying it. Some missions are basically interactive cutscenes where you control a UAV or similar, but the normal missions are a nice mix of arcade and flight sim style gameplay that I am finding fun.

I completed Book I last year and decided to make a start on this one. There have been some upgrades from the first game, though I can't exactly remember what. So far it's a solid old-school RPG. Though I now feel compelled to add everyone I meet to the VGG character database which is slowing me down...

Other games played during the past week:

Dojo of Death - Played this for Frumpish's browser challenge. I just can't seem to get the hang of it for some reason.
Time Mysteries: Inheritiance - A hidden object game I was playing on my phone. Quite good, just completed it.
Pillars of Eternity - made a bit more progess in this during the week. I'm having the same 'adding characters to VGG' problem though...
Kingdom Rush: Origins - had to play a bit of this on my sons's tablet to get some of this levels back as my younger son wiped his game. Doh!
Star Realms - played a bit of this on my tablet to learn the rules as I have the physical game and found it was actually quite good to play single player. I'm almost tempted to buy it.
Heroes of Loot - another tablet game. A fast-paced dungeon game with loads of enemies. Gets tough fast.

Following the buzz around the trailer for Fallout 4 being released, I managed to put some more time into Fallout 3. May have to start from scratch again though, now that I've seen some character building guides that indicate I've got my special stats all wrong. I'll complete this game one day!

Returned to this old favorite a few times. Lost more than I won, and the wins were kind of prolonged and anticlimactic, but MoO is still better than most games I play.

Part of a GOG bundle I picked up for cheap during the summer sale. The main part of the bundle is Battle Isle, which I may end up never playing. It's designed for a joystick, and I almost never use a controller of any kind; just mouse and keyboard. I could probably get used to the old graphics and interface, and maybe there's a good game in there, but with so many other options it just doesn't seem worth the effort.

I did play Incubation a bit--just the first scenario. I was just fooling around, going by trial and error. I'd have to read the manual to know what I'm doing. But we killed some aliens, and then I got my squad killed off. This is clearly a game in the same category as Rebelstar: Tactical Command and Laser Squad Nemesis and Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel. I always think I'm going to like that kind of game, and it's good now and then when I'm in the mood for it, but usually I don't like fiddling with so much up-close detail or dealing with ambushes and such.

Another GOG summer sale purchase. This one turned out just the opposite of the Battle Isle set for me: in this case, I wasn't expecting much and didn't think I'd like the games, but actually I do.

I guess these are predecessors to the Total War games. The only one of those I have is Medieval II: Total War, and I don't like it much (the strategic game has too many dimensions--political, religious, economic--and the tactical game is annoyingly 3-D and real-time). But the Great Battles games offer just what I like best in the old style I prefer.

Unfortunately The Great Battles of Caesar doesn't run--at least not yet. I've played one battle in each of the other games, but Caesar crashes as I'm trying to start a scenario or campaign. I'll have to get some help with that.

I've started an Axis campaign, and I'm into the second scenario, where the Japanese are taking over a chunk of China. A week or two ago, I started playing and got stuck because I didn't know the naval/amphibious rules. But now I'm past that and rolling along again. Good game.

Finished up last night with a scenario from FG. I'm not sure my campaigns are going that well (I have four in progress simultaneously, one for each leader), so I thought I'd take a break from them.

This scenario utilized all the most advanced units in the game, and I had to relearn how they all worked. I'm easily discouraged when I start taking losses, and I thought sure I had lost the scenario midway through. But somehow I got my act together, held in, and won.

FG is another game, like Master of Orion, that I see myself coming back to again and again.

My evenings and weekend has been mostly devoted to studying for an exam I have this Wednesday...I'm feeling so burnt out!

On Friday, I got home from work and crashed on the couch. When I woke up, it was raining outside, and that always puts me in the mood for video games (I don't know why...), so I spent some time with Shadow of Mordor, a bag of chips, and some Sprite.

I quite enjoyed my play session! I killed some uruks, some uruks killed me, good fun was had. I've had my first instance where an Uruk I thought I killed came back and straight up murdered me after I had just taken out another commander (well...actually I had him easily under control but got killed by some ranged supporting units). I guess he was mad because I had interrupted his execution of another commander and then cleared out his entourage. Man...I wish I could remember their names!

Another great moment was when I was sneaking up behind a group of three orcs, and JUST as I was about to stealth-kill the one in the back of the group, a caragor pounced on him from just behind me! I panicked and hid while the carnage unfolded, and picked off the stragglers.

Some of the challenges in the game still seem insurmountable, but there's enough stuff to do that I imagine it will be more satisfying when I get back to it. There's one cave where you have to clear out three groups of ghuls, and then take out the brood mother while literally endless waves of ghuls are swarming you (I tried to cheese the game by taking out the ghuls first by drawing them out of the cave, but more spawn immediately).

I also played a bit of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, but only enough to sell some turnips for a profit and dig up some fossils.

With the release of the Kickstarted Kung Fury movie, I tried out the video game. It's basically One Finger Death Punch, but with better graphics. I think it's a "get as many points as possible" type of thing and there isn't any real victory condition, but it was fun for a few tries.

Desktop Dungeons
Got it from the GoG summer sale (Man I just relized I've associated "sale" with "steam" so much that I almost mistyped that). Slowly working to unlock new stuff. The mechanics are nice but I usually spend way too much time tracking down enemies so that by the time I can kill them I no longer have enough tiles left to uncover for regen. And I often come up short on XP to take on the boss.

SPACECOM
Another one from the sale. I like the minimalistic approach. Everything looks clean and orderly. Unfortunately the explanations are also a bit minimalistic and some of the missions have awkward steps in them that are supposed to "teach" you how to play the game but aren't skippable. For example:
One mission required me to build X new fleets and then attack the enemy capital system. I only read the mission briefing and built up my existing fleets. So pretty soon I had defeated all enemy systems but not won the mission because I didn't build enough fleets.

Space Run
I also got back into Galaxy Truck - err - I mean Space Run. Took me a while to go from "OMG what am I doing?" to even improving some of my scores.

Urban Dead
Started this based on Amy's thread in the Multiplayer forum. I'm not really sure if I'm going to continue this. I'll push through to the first level up though to see if freerunning improves the experience. But I generally find this game to be badly designed and unsatisfying:
* Navigating is a pain in the ass since you only see one block in each direction
* Finding a place to stay is a HUGE pita, since vast stretches of the game are either not barricaded or completely blocked off. And you don't find out until you've spent AP to get there.
* Attacking zombies is hugely inefficient. Even my fire axe which is said to be a GREAT weapon lists only a hit chance of 25% - and that's with my class specific starting skill. And in practice it feels lower than that.

It all comes down to the fact that most of your AP in this game is wasted.

Dead Frontier
So I wanted a more exciting zombie game for the weekend and picked up dead frontier again. Doesn't grab me as much as it used to but it's a lot better than Urban Dead.

die2nite
So I tried out die2nite/Hordes which so far is the most promising of the three. It has a really clever concept. It is essentially Diplomacy meets The Walking Dead. 40 players are stuffed into a town together and have to fortify it because each night the zombies attack in ever increasing numbers. You only get 6 Actions per day (12/18 of you find food and water). So what to spend these one becomes hugely important. And over time people will start disagreeing over their proper use. So you can vote to shun, banish or even hang each other. Or sometimes accidents happen, like everyone forgetting to close the town gates, letting the zombies march in and feast.

I finished the Adventure campaign of PvZ on my Android mobile.

Which is a good thing, as it's one of the items on my "VGG 2015 videogame challenge" list

More kid friendly Lego games. Completed the story mode, and finally unlocked Blackbeard. Now it's a matter of finding all of the secrets in Freeplay. Still good fun. I particularly like that you can behead the cutesy Lego people with some sound sword play.

This one is actually fairly enjoyable. Platforming and puzzles. The kids like to watch it and it's fine for them, so far. No bad words, no bad images, except the violence of shapes sometimes crashing into other shapes and then disintegrating - but really, isn't that all computer animated violence?

Solo:
Early in the week I ran through the alien base, which was no where as threatening as any other time I've run through it. (2 times? 3?) I don't think I even saw Chrysallids until the last room. But they did rush me with 3 at once, that made it a bit of a worry. But thankfully I had 2 heavies, so I started off with one rocket(maybe shredder) and finished them all off with normal shots. I ignored my mind-controlled assault and captured the commander.

Now I've left off at the xcom base attack. I didn't hear the dialog because of other folks talking in the room, so I didn't really know what to expect. I got all the way to the last wave(Chrysallid, commander, 2 mechtoids, cyberdisk, 1 drone) before things just went horribly wrong--me being stupid about movements, or point-blank shots missing. So I abandoned that attempt, and I'll pick it up again sometime later this week, though the World Cup will cut into a lot of my time.

Duo:
So my friend and I restarted yet again, this time instead of playing on Classic I persuaded him to go for normal with nearly all the available Second Wave options. We picked everything except Save Scum and Training Roulette. I am finding it much more enjoyable than the Classic games, but I'm not sure about him. He's so masochistic.

I defeated the Don and took the A.D., though it took many attempts. If you know this game you know that damage spells get no respect and are pretty worthless, but in this fight even the debuffs were pointless. Don would take 0 damage from the spells, and save against every debuff/control spell except for armourmelt. Even ring of fire he would either shrug off or only take 1 damage. A summoned elemental(canned elemental potion) would distract him for several rounds, that was their best use. He dodged nearly every attack.

I finally won when I had him down to 87 hp and my elemental got super luck and hit him(the first time ever)--which dealt 143 damage. Pop goes the Don. My psionic Lyta didn't make it through the fight alive, but everyone including her is now only 200k exp from leveling. So I beat the Don fight at lvls 11(sam, valk x2) & 12(fighter, gadg, bard, psionic, thief x2).

In honor of the Fallout 4 announcement I decided to reinstall F:NV. Not sure if I have the drive to start playing again, considering how broad and absorbing the game can be. But just playing it a short while was enough to remind me how good it feels to play a Fallout game to get me hyped for the next one.
