To celebrate the first five years of VideoGameGeek, I think it'd be fun to show off the best videogame deals that you have ever found.

This can include a brand new videogaming thingy from a store, an awesome find at a thrift store or even a garage sale treasure.

To get some action going in this geeklist, there will be prizes awarded to the top three vote-getters. At the end of our celebration, interested voters can geekmail me their top three choices for best videogaming deal.

First place: 50 bag
Second place: 35 bag
Third place: 20 bag

Multiple entries are allowed.

I will start this off with my own nice find, but I am not eligible to receive prizes.

I got free PS2 (fat version) from a coworker. It included two controllers, various memory cards, Grand Theft Auto 2 & 3 and Tiger Woods Golf. Granted, I received this after the PS4s already came out, but free is free. I have slowly gathered some old PS2 games for it and it sits with my Sega Genesis hooked up to our den TV. Fun old-school gaming goodness.

Back when I worked in a videogame shop (this would have been about 2006), someone walked in to trade in a NES console. After I informed him that unfortunately our shop didn't take consoles that old, he looked a bit annoyed. I asked him how much he wanted for it as I might be personally interested in buying it from him. Amazingly, he only wanted £15!

So for £15 I got a working NES with all leads, controller and about 10 games. I think that was a pretty damn good haul!

Found in a pawn shop for about a tenner back in Leicester. This would have been around 2001 - 2003. Being as this game was never released over here in PAL format, I jumped at the chance to grab this NTSC copy of the game!

A few years ago I was delivering my route. And outside one of the homes was a sign marked Free so I took a glance and my heart leaped. There was an Xbox, four controllers, all the connection wires and a half dozen or so games.

So I quickly delivered the last few houses, glancing at any cars driving by to dash back to the house in case they stopped, and then hurried back to grab it.

When I got home I looked on Craigslist to see if anyone was selling Xbox games I was interested in. The only listing was from the house on my route. Apparently they were having a garage sale and no one bought it, so they decided to liquidate.

I haven't played much on it. Otogi: Myth of Demons and maybe another game. But I had fun with Otogi, and I like having the Xbox sitting there.

Not that great compared to the other deals on this list but I was pretty chuffed to get a silver PSP 3000, nice carrying case, Valkyria Chronicles II, Ys Seven (collector's/premium edition including bigger box, ost, artbook, and cloth map), Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, and several other miscellaneous games all lightly used for around 30 euro.

God bless,
Kezle

About 4 years ago MS ran a promotion where if you bought a windows PC you could get an Xbox for free. The catch was you had to be a college student. It just so happened that I was going to back to school for a second degree at the time and my parents needed a new computer. I picked out a PC for them and got a free Xbox 360! It was the cheap version so I needed to buy a hard drive for it. Still, pretty awesome to get a free console in the middle of its generation.

I did a lot of research prior to buying a Wii. After determining the going rate I started watching Craigslist.

I wound up buying a Wii along with Super Mario Galaxy 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword, Super Mario Bros 3 and Ocarina of Time on VC one motion plus Wii Mote with Nunchuck. All the connecting cords and a wireless sensor bar.

All for $115, which at the time meant I basically got everything for less than the games would have cost.

A lot of the components of my current gaming PC were free.

I have a boardgaming friend who likes to keep more on top of current PC gaming hardware, and can afford to do so.. he was replacing his PC that came in a humongous case, so he offloaded his old one (sans hard drives) to a mutual friend who then decided not to do anything with it, and offered it to me. The case was simply too large for my work space, but I had a spare case knocking around, so I transplanted everything into the new case.

I got an AMD 6 core Phenom II processor. 8 GB of RAM. a Gigabyte motherboard with onboard USB 3. It also had a decent ATI graphics card, but I ended up swapping that for the one I'd been using in my old computer... which was also free from a very generous VGG user - Paralipsis. He'd won a Radeon HD6770 graphics card as part of the kickstarter project for Defense Grid 2, and offered to have it shipped to me, as it would not have been much of an upgrade for him.

The only things I've had to buy myself are the hard drives... otherwise I got a basically free PC that plays games as new as Shadow of Mordor.

I know I've missed the deadline for the contest, but this was an interesting list and I wanted to post.

Wandered into a local pawnshop back in 2005, not really searching for anything, just bored and found Dragon Force for $6.50!

If you've never played, or never even heard of Dragon Force, you owe it to yourself to give it a try somehow. Its massive battles are truly unique and the multiple story paths were a novel idea back in 1996.

Anyway, it was already one of my favorite games and it having been published by Working Designs for the Sega Saturn made it incredibly rare. I bought it and I played the hell out of it, returning to play it almost annually. Over the years I have probably gotten better deals, and rarer games, but finding Dragon Force, complete in box, for so cheap was hands down the most satisfying game purchase I've ever made.

As a post-script, I did sell Dragon Force when I began downsizing my collection 8 years later for $120. I was sad to see it go, but I've kinda retired from video gaming these days.
