That's Tim Powers' fictional Samuel Coleridge "quoting" John Milton in _The Anubis Gates_.

Like the information on my tracking my unplayed games list, this information is also (mostly) contained on the excellent Friendless Stats page. But I thought to track games that likely want another play a bit more closely.

So here's everything I've played once. (That's everything for which I've recorded one play, less all the games for which I've failed to record additional historic plays.) I'll sort them in decreasing order of BGG rank (not that I'll prioritize plays in that order!) and annotate with what I thought of the game the first time out, and whether I'm feeling particularly motivated to reprise the play.

(My replay scale is
thumbsupthumbsup - significant enthusiasm.
thumbsup - modest enthusiasm.
snore - meh.
thumbsdown - some disinclination.
thumbsdownthumbsdown - ain't gonna happen.
I'm amused to see it doesn't correlate completely with rating!)

It's a great design, and quite tractable in play. My primary difficulty is that I rarely play longer games like this with only two. (My primary 2p opponent is son #2, who prefers his games short and abstract!)

I found it a bit kinder and gentler than the Original Imperial, and while I enjoyed the play, I'd probably just choose to play the original instead of this one. Of course, if someone really wanted this, I'd be happy to join 'em.

Random, chaotic, volatile, and distinctly rewarding. No idea when I can muster the required crew of five modestly-insane folk; but I'll be delighted when it occurs.

Charming and engrossing game; and vaguely reminiscent of the Twilight/Imperial Struggle + 1989 GMT tug-o-war games; but possibly a bit more clearly and coherently rendered (well: for me) than those older titles. I'll be happy to play more.

Really enjoyed the first play. And I've read through the rules several times since so that I'd be able to inflict it on others cleanly. But still haven't managed that second play yet.

Not much arc to the game; not much enthusiasm from my usual opponents. I'd expect we'd choose Verräter or Google Datacenter Manager if we were going to play an Adlung game.

A bit too long to throw back in play trivially. Yet it's also got some rather cool features: the partial capitalization (with loans, and a holdback until the company hits its destination) and the formation of the Canadian add nuances that I've not seen previously.

It does need more work. But more than that, it needs practice (on my part) to read the board. My first play featured a lot of pondering and re-pondering the board's display to (try to) be sure I'd not missed anything. And it's not clear that I didn't! I find myself wondering whether a visually-sparer "player's edition" might not be a great thing: I'm not asking (though it'd be fine!) for a Winsome aesthetic; but something closer to my 1st edition Twilight Struggle would be a lot easier to scan visually.

Nice addition to the Timeline set; and one that's likely going to be seen in play again. (I might quibble a tiny bit about the discovery of North America: as a Canadian, the L'Anse aux Meadows site seems pretty definitive, yet the card wanted Columbus.)

It's a co-op. The last one I'd ever bought, in fact. And I've come to realize I'd as rather not play a co-op as play. So this isn't likely going to see more work, unless my kids really want me to go for it with them.

Wow. Having a first play with three novices was interesting, but I'm certain it wasn't nearly as educational as playing with the sharks might have been. Of course, I could well have been eliminated early in that other hypothetical: so perhaps I'm happy to have had the relatively languid introduction. Would be delighted to play more.

It's not bad blind bidding; but it still is. So I'll get it played eventually. The game has merit; and I've the delusion that if the players were reasonably good at it, the game that resulted would be far more appealing than what I've experienced as a novice. Just need to find some folk that find it amusing.

It's gimmicky, but still has some merit. I'd be totally content to play, but likely wouldn't push for it.

I played this most recently back when I was an undergraduate. I wonder how it's survived the passage of time?

Lovely evocative age-of-sail game. Pretty sensible in play, too.

An awesome experience - even if as much of the game happened to us as we directed. Definitely needs more investigation.

I enjoyed it the first time out; and now that I have a copy, I'd be delighted to give it another try.
