Thanks Ryan

During the Spring challenge and the Summer challenge I decided to keep a diary (Spring diary and Summer diary), as I wanted to log my progress and goals. This seemed to help me along, as I lost 26.6lbs altogether, so it's now a tried and trust method so I'll be doing it again

If anyone wants to friend me on MyFitnessPal, Doyouyoga.com, or Headspace my username is lisaabbott78.

My story...

I've been overweight most of my adult life, apart from a short stint when I lost ~80lbs and immediately put half of it back on (and then it crept almost all the way back...). I moved to Berlin, Germany, from Manchester, UK last year, and since moving, I've lost around 39lbs. Part of this is due to not being able to get the snacks I'm used to eating over here, but I've also been vegan since October 2014, as I was previously a vegetarian but going vegan in Berlin is so easy.

During the Spring weight loss challenge, my weight dropped from 173lbs to 156.6lbs, and although the losses slowed down during the Summer challenge from 156lbs to 146.6lbs, I'm hoping for a decent weight loss again. I've maintained during the 5 week break, weighing it at 0.4lbs heavier than the end of the last challenge (that's close enough to say "maintain", right? )

I managed to establish a good exercise routine during the Spring challenge, which I kept up during the Summer challenge and now do yoga daily (www.doyouyoga.com) at home, and attend a class or two each week. During the Summer challenge I also added in some strength exercises. I do pretty much all my exercise at home, as I'm stuck in writing my PhD thesis...

I'm vegan and already eat fairly healthy, and I've been restricting calories since around February, and see no need to change there. I track my calories and exercise using MyFitnessPal, and other stats (BMI, fat %, muscle %) using Tactio Health app. I'm going to track my change in weight, body fat, muscle mass, waist size, and BMI.

Stats as of challenge start (21/09/15):

Weight: 147lbs
BMI: 27
Body Fat: 32.8%
Muscle: 32.5%
Waist size: 29.375"

Finishing stats (16/11/15):

Weight:
BMI:
Body Fat:
Muscle:
Waist size:

Aims:

d10-1 Yoga - keep doing yoga daily.
d10-2 Drop to 10st4 / 144lbs (lose 3lbs). This is the weight I was when I left college at 18, after my first diet.
d10-3 Drop to 10st / 140lbs (lose 7lbs). This means I'll weigh less than my husband!
d10-4 Lose 6% of my weight (lose 8.82lbs). This is the challenge aim.
d10-5 Drop to 9st9 / (lose 12lbs). This is a "normal" BMI for me.
d10-6 Stick to 1200 calories.
d10-7 Drop to 28.5" waist (0.75" loss). I'd like more, but this is reasonable seeing as my weight loss is slowing.
d10-8 Daily Headspace meditation. A healthy mind is a healthy body!

3. Board Game: Fields of Arle [Average Rating:8.09 Overall Rank:58]
Board Game: Fields of Arle
Week 3 stats:

Weight: 138.0lbs (-5.4lbs, -9.0lbs overall / -6.12% overall)
BMI: 25.3 (-1.0, -1.7 overall)
Body Fat: 30.9% (-1.0%, -1.9% overall)
Muscle: 33.0% (+0.3%, +0.5% overall)
Waist size: 28.5" (-0.5", -0.875" overall)

Game choice: Fields of Arle - another want, that seems almost impossible to get in English in Germany! Maybe in Essen

Thoughts

Well I did not expect to make the challenge goal after 2 weeks. In the Spring challenge, it was week 6, the summer was the final week. Weight loss had slowed so much for me - with 4 to 6 week stalls happening. So what changed? I cut out diet Coke. And I've done slightly less exercise, but that should have the opposite effect (but yoga isn't a top calorie burner anyway, and I wasn't one for cardio as running isn't for me). I've always been dubious about diet drinks, as years ago they really effected me when I was doing a low carb diet. But after stalling for 5 weeks, slow weight loss and a 4 week stall in the previous 12 weeks, cutting out the diet fizz has dropped by weight 9lbs in 2 weeks.

Achievements

d10-1 Mini goal: weigh less than husband achieved!
d10-2 Mini goal: drop under 10st / 140lb achieved!
d10-3 Challenge goal: 6% achieved!

Goals from last week

d10-1 Drop 2lbs, to 141.4lbs (10st1.4).
d10-2 Do some yoga, if health allows (been having fainting spells!) - still resting till next week (blood test back this week, but then there's Essen).

Goals for this week

Exercise goals are remaining easy this week, until I recover from recent fainting and dizziness.

d10-1 Maintain weight at Essen.
d10-2 Lots of walking at Essen.

4. Board Game: Fog of Love [Average Rating:7.01 Overall Rank:808]
 Missing Image
Week 4 stats:

Weight: 140.0lbs (+2.0lbs, -7.0lbs overall / -4.76% overall)
BMI: 25.6 (+0.3, -1.4 overall)
Body Fat: 31.2% (+0.3%, -1.6% overall)
Muscle: 32.9% (-0.1%, +0.4% overall)
Waist size: 27.875" (-0.625", -1.5" overall)

Game choice: one of the surprise best games I tried at Essen.

Achievements:

d10-1 Lost 0.625" from waist.
d10-2 Stuck to calories at Essen.
d10-3 Walked over 25km at Essen!

Completed goals from last week

d10-1 Maintain weight at Essen. Didn't manage, but did lose inches from waist, so all is not lost.
d10-2 Lots of walking at Essen. Done!

Goals for this week:

d10-1 Lose 2lbs.
d10-2 Drop back into 6% loss.

Thoughts

A bit disappointed that I gained weight at Essen. I stuck to calories and measured everything I ate, so there was no calorie creep. Grrr. Did lose 0.625" from my waist though. Just a bit sad that I made the 6% and then fell out of that bracket again... Still, plenty time

Update a bit late this week, as I seem to have the Essen version of Pax Pox. At least I get to play Pandemic Legacy and feel the theme even more!
