Hey, it's not such a bad game; it's just commonplace. And if the power goes out, you can play it under candlelight with those physical cards people used to use in the old days.

Speaking of solitaire (patience) games, IMO this is one of the better ones. I don't know how it compares to Portal, but that seems like a completely different animal anyhow.

OK, it's free and it's easy. But I played a lot of it (usually at the office, when I should have been working). And I remember it as kind of a neat little game.

Once upon a time, this was the best video game around. It was so well loved that special consoles were made just for this one game alone. I can still remember the first time I saw one. I asked, "What's that in the beautiful wooden cabinet over by the wall?"

Yeah, all the gaming I did on it amounts to a few minutes, but still. It's not broken or anything.

I actually like Night Driver and wrote a review of it called All Stripped Down: Comparing the Arcade Version to a MAME emulation.

Basically, I thought its first person minimalist experience was a big step forward in driving games--which until then tended to be top-down.

Maybe users are jaded by the Atari version with its lame little car in the screen.

I don't know for sure but it doesnt deserve to be a bottom feeder.

Sometimes declared the all-time worst video game, but I have to say that I enjoyed it when I was young. Sure, it could be frustrating and it wasn't one of my very favorites. But I appreciated its strangeness.

Remember when this was all the rage? Sigh, those were the days. So this game is very simple, but hard...addictingly hard, where you just want to keep playing it until you beat your previous high score. I don't think you can ever beat this game, and it's the same thing over and over, which is bad. But for those first few days you play it, it's fun.

It's easy to be hard on this game, but really, it was more disappointing than bad. With some tweaking, there was a decently playable game under its hood, if you modified your expectations from MoO/ MoO2.

Surprised this is as low as it is. It's a lot like Othello, but 4 player - it even got added to my Great Multiplayer Games list for NES.

I wouldn't personally go all the way to great, but I'd say it's pretty good. Above average puzzle game.

In film criticism circles, there's a school of thought that says an interesting failure is more worthwhile to watch than a competent by-the-numbers genre exercise.

Whether or not Pac-Man 2 is a failure is debatable - if pushed, I'd probably agree that it is - but it is most definitely interesting.

I don't have a link, but there was a discussion on here a few years ago about whether or not video game quality on balance has improved over the years. One thing we could all agree on was that the low points today, at least from reputable developers, are much better than the low points a few generations back. Game design has evolved to a point where people just aren't taking big risks for the most part, so you don't get stuff that's completely and obviously broken so much anymore. The debate was over the other end of the spectrum; I, among others, think that the high points of the early years are generally higher than the standouts of today precisely because of this same risk-taking. It's easier not to fail playing it safe, but it's also harder to make something truly special.

Here's a game that positions itself as the sequel to one of the most iconic video games of all time. And you don't get to control the protagonist! You're playing as...you, on the other side of the fourth wall, and equipped with nothing but a slingshot and some signs, you need to convince an AI Pac-Man to do what you want him to do.

It's clunky. It's frustrating at times. But it's also unique. I'm guessing we'd still have The Sims if this game had never happened, but I'm also guessing that the choices made in the former game informed aspects of the latter's design, both in terms of what worked and what didn't.

Pac-Man 2 will always be special to me because it's one of the clearer representations of the pioneering spirit in video games, even though I have very low interest in returning to it. As far as the game itself, though, outside of being an avatar of its era, there's another reason I'm glad to have experienced Pac-Man 2:

I don't think any other experience I had in life prepared me for being a parent as much as this game did.

Seriously. I never babysat or spent much time responsible for children, but the AI in Pac-Man 2 is very, very childlike. Sometimes all you needed him to do was walk 10 feet in one direction, but he would get scared and freeze, or mad at you and walk the other way to spite you. I got annoyed, but eventually learned that the problem was that I wasn't communicating to him the right way. This is usually the case with children as well - if I can get them to understand what I want them to do and why, things go much more smoothly. I've on more than one occasion compared my kids to Pac-Man 2 when talking with one of the 3 people I know who actually played it, and I've even thought of it in the moment before when getting annoyed at one of the kids doing something that defies all (adult) logic. Computers are all logic, so the things Pac-Man was doing followed some sort of logic, even if it was arcane to me. Same with my kids, most of the time, when I can get a straight answer out of them. (As a friend put it: "Kids are funny. The reasoning engine is all there - they just don't have the right inputs.")

If you've got means to play 16 bit games, fire this one up with low expectations. I think it's worth an hour or two of your time.

(And just so we're totally clear, I don't ever shoot rocks at my kids' heads with a slingshot to make them mad so that they'll get through an obstacle. It's not a perfect analogy.)

This one was perfectly decent. Played a lot like Temple of Elemental Evil (which was a good game), only without all the interesting plot and characters. But the gameplay mechanically was very similar.

I confess I never played all the way through the story mode, but I played a ton of multiplayer and single-player melee. A variety of interesting weapons and some neat (for the time options) like taking cover and rolling. I absolutely loved the jet-packs, which I thought gave a much better "flying" experience than the flyers in the early Halo games.

The parts of this game that didn't involve trying to land on an aircraft carrier weren't that bad...I guess.

Much like the movies, this game actually managed to scare me as a kid. Granted, I think that had more to do with the loud noise that played every time Jason appeared, but my point stands.

One actually cool thing about this game was that one of the levels included an alien supply ship, based on the alien supply ships in the original UFO Defense with the same layout and look.

The end-credits song is fun, and even if I didn't appreciate the game as a game, I thought it was a funny critique of the hand-holding present in many modern games.

This game is both ingenious and absolutely retarded at the same time. It's a parody of early adventure games, and they NAILED the graphics; it really looks like one of those low-effort 80's EGA adventure games (e.g. Kings Quest, Hugo, etc).

Most of the game is absolute nonsense, but is can also be hilarious and surreal.
