I've never participated in one of these "what are you playing" lists before.

However, I felt this was worthy of mention: I've been playing Hearthstone almost every single day since August, to the point where it had pushed all other games away.

Well, the game that has finally unseated Hearthstone is this open-source remake of the classic Chris Sawyer game, Transport Tycoon Deluxe. It's one of those games that lures you in, and has no good stopping point, so you just play and play and play. I'm obsessed with it, and have lost all interest in Hearthstone, other games, walking the dog, eating, sleeping, etc. (Kidding about the dog -- I don't actually have one.)

I'm currently playing it on PC, and also playing the mobile version of the original TTD on my Kindle Fire when my kids kick me off the PC to do their homework. (Homework..? Come on, kids, priorities!) Apparently there is a mobile version of OpenTTD as well, but I haven't looked at it yet.

Ascendancy Expansion releases on Friday.surprise
Who's excited??

Dubbed Path of exile patch 2.2, ascendancy features an optional labyrinth, new class-specific skill trees, more new uniques, skills, the start of the Perandus League, and enhance trade functionality.

Perandus league looks like a mixture of shrines and strongboxes. Random spawns of Monsters guarding chests of perandus coin. Perandus coin is used with random-spawned perandus merchant who offers to sell you one item for a fixed amount of coin. Items can be rares, uniques, etc. Each spawn of the perandus vendor holds a different item for sale.

Players with premium stash tabs can now add prices to items therein. 3rd party sites such as poe.trade will index that information for others to search out and make offers. No need for a forum shop anymore. Items listed will also have an id, meaning that the item's shop history can be tracked (to expose attempts at scamming/manipulating market) Currency can be listed for sale in the "shop" tabs as well - this could have a significant impact on the exchange market. Easier shop system means more stuff for sale, and hopefully lower prices. As a buyer (primarily) I am hopeful to aquire lots more goodies to play with due to this.

Plans for Ascendancy:
CI Ice Storm Juggernaut (Standard)
Ice Spear Inquisitor (Perandus Softcore)
Quill Rain Freeze pulse Assassin... or Deadeye (Standard)
Disfavour Cyclone Poison Trickster (Standard)
Disfavour Cyclone Gladiator (Standard)
Disfavour Cyclone Slayer (Standard) - I can't decide how to use the disfavour.

Maybe some kinda spectral throw with binos/poison
edit, adding:
Infernal Blow Doomsower Chieftain. Depends on whether I can get Doomsower to roll 6 link or not.
edit edit:
Patch notes are up. No major rebalancing or changes vs. the added power of ASC classes. Speculation is that GGG will wait to see what needs tuning after a couple months of league time.

Playing tons of Watch Dogs. Probably about 60% of the way through the story. A lot of the side content is bottom-of-the-barrel busywork, but there's some good stuff too. Gang hideouts stand out as legit stealth content. The privacy invasions add some dark comedy and probably do more than the story itself to invoke a Robocop-style dystopia of hyper-commercialized big-brother misery. The main missions are surprisingly solid.

Watch Dogs has exceeded my expectations, bearing in mind that those were super low to begin with. Was it a ridiculously over-hyped, over-marketed game? Yes. Is it mediocre in ways that are so commonplace it feels unnecessary to even list them? Yes. Is the huge city-scape more or less wasted on a dumbed-down, over-cautious, fundamentally derivative experience? Yes. Is the whole thing overly indebted to Assassins Creed, itself an already tapped-out franchise? Yes.

But there's actually some good stuff in here. Hardly a show-stopper but I'm glad I took a look. I'm steamrolling my way through Chicago and imagine I will finish the story and all worthwhile side content by the end of the weekend.

I use the silenced pistol unless forced into open combat in scripted sequences (hello, grenade-launcher), and ride around on a "chopper" as my stylin' mode of transportation. Good times.

I saw that they updated the game and added a new big map and small map that takes place on Hoth at night during a blizzard, and they added Turning Point mode to all of the big maps, so I wanted to try it out. For some reason, I now suffer from some kind of intolerable lag that makes my character spaz out every 5 seconds or so. It's been like this on three different occasions I tried since the update. It wasn't like this before; not sure what's wrong.

Oh my gosh the flying in this game is SOOOOOO bad.. especially in the open world area. It's slightly less irritating in levels, but still bad. Very annoying given that a lot of the collectibles and characters are on rooftops and the only way to reach them is to fly..

Got into my first jet in Just Cause.
Oh man, did I have fun blowing everything up!
The infinite rockets and bombs lead to endless devastation.

The finally shot me down, but I layed a lot of the dictator's forces and infrastructure to waste.

Tomorrow, I am going about taking over that airport, so I'll have an endless supply of jets. heh heh

Almost had to check a faq.

I think I am about halfway through this. At one point, I finally realized I needed to put these doo-hickey's into another doo-hickey to continue. That was fine, until I ran out of doo-hickey's and needed one more.

After about 15 minutes, I finally found the final doo-hickey.

This game is not gripping excitement. But to end the night in a relaxing way, this works just fine.

Started playing this one a couple of days ago.

I didn't know anything about this game when I started playing it. I had not read about it, so I had no expectations. That combined with me being the easiest person to scare on the planet, ensured some proper screaming and jumping at the beginning of the game. And of course I was in a Hangout with Rudy then. He had to go get something from downstairs and I could hear him repeatedly saying something along the line "Don't play until I'm back, this is perfect, wait until I'm back" as he was walking. He was so amused by me screaming at his ear. To each to their own

As I kept playing, it stopped being so scary and I'm doing fine in that respect. I keep dying a lot though, I feel like I'm a poor player skill-wise. I do want to finish the game, so I'm playing it one small bit at a time and hopefully will finish the game at some point.

Just when I thought I wasn't going to be surprised in Part 2 it ends with a shock. Looking forward to making a start on Part 3 tonight. I didn't think I'd like this so much.

Also started playing Sunless Sea which I picked up in a recent Humble Bundle and had been on my radar for a while. Very atmospheric, and very easy to die horribly. Excellent.

Still playing Space Marshals on my phone. Usually when I'm on the bus. Just need to time it right so I've completed a mission before I have to get off!

Another day another Faction squashed in my CIV:BE:RT game. I am now at the most boring part of the game, the clean up and wiping out of all the remaining rivals. Former allies who would have taken over me have now been subjugated. I almost feel bad about it, but there was no chance for any real long term harmony as this culture was built on dominance and resource exploitation. In the end, there can only be one.

When I installed the GOG version of this game, the intro movie was very choppy, as was the narrator's voice; and then the game was a little slow to play. So I read that changing cycles from 80K to max in DOSBox could help, and I reinstalled the game just to try that out. It made the intro movie smooth and normal, but I'm not sure it did much of anything for game play.

By then I was into it, though. I played several campaign missions before I noticed it was nearly midnight and I had to get to bed.

I don't see any advantage of this version over Dungeon Keeper 2, so I'll probably go back to that. Come to think of it, I did go back to it a couple nights ago. I played around in My Pet Dungeon. But I got nowhere (needed 30K points to "win" the sandbox scenario, and I only had 5K), so I'll have to try that again sometime. (First I need to look up what earns points. Second, I need to be more economical; I ran out of gold, probably due to overbuying in the beginning.)

Still playing at this game, despite the reservations I mentioned last week.

It has gotten to where I win too often against the Hard AI, so I went on to the campaign. Won the first five missions, then got stuck at Nekrium Mastery. Looks like I'll have to learn to do some deck building before I can win that one.

Actually, I made a feeble attempt at deck building last night--and then failed four times to win that mission. But I'll be back. At least I learned the mechanics of building a deck.

I still don't know how people play a game with so many different cards and options. I'm keeping my focus very narrow and taking baby steps to avoid being overwhelmed.

Side note: I poked around my computer and noticed that I have an app to play Blue Moon. I bought all the cards for that game before they went out of print (and were then reprinted and released in a new package), but I've played the game only once. Maybe I'll relearn it and play it against the AI to see how well I like it. (It has some deck-building options too, but it's an LCG rather than a CCG.)

I think I managed to get away from this game for like a week. Maybe. But then I just had to get back behind the wheel. I only have a few more race weekends to go in Formula B, then I get to see if I get the invite to go race in a Formula One A car.

I almost want to start a second career, and possibly try out the GT series, but then I'm pretty sure this would be the only game I would be playing. Not a bad thing necessarily, but I shouldn't neglect my other games. They get so lonely.

He's looking real sharp in his 1940's fedora. He's got nerves of steel, an iron will, and several other metal-themed attributes. His fur is water tight and he's always up for a fight.

I built an awesome building for everyone to live in, and now I'm adding to the top of it a Great Hall and a little stockpile of food.

As opposed to the wooden great hall, this one should cost a lot more at least. Value brings in more gnomes, and I want more gnomes. Next upgrade will probably hit the gnomes' personal quarters, which I'm going to need more of. I built 17 and I have 19 gnomes now, but one of the new gnomes has become my jeweler so that's a slot filled. The other gnomes became miners and woodcutters, so I put up the order to build a new pickaxe and a new felling axe.

My military is training hard, and getting really good at fighting and dodging. I think it's almost time for them to pick up weapons and train on them, but I'm not sure if it's even worth it. I know I'm going to want an archer or two at some point.

Really, this isn't the greatest game but it definitely has that feeling of Dwarf Fortress that I love.

I'm a little ways into Chapter 2 now, and the game took a significant step up in difficulty. I retract my earlier comment that veteran JRPG'ers should play on Hard. I like it this way myself, but many will find it too much. Monsters hit bloody hard - almost any random monster can two-shot a character that's not guarding, which makes packs decidedly dangerous. I've been surprise-attacked and gotten two characters KO'd before getting a chance to act. Status attacks are frequent, varied, and powerful, which I like. What I *don't* like is having to ditch out to the menu screen after every damn fight to heal Poison or Blind or Silence. It's standard fare for JRPG's, but why did anyone ever think that was fun in the first place? For that matter, why not just heal up the party completely after each battle? (I think a couple games do that - FFXIII maybe?) Ultimately, all that after-battle healing just translates to a small, persistent drain on the party's MP/Gold economy. I see no reason the game's economy couldn't be tightened elsewhere to produce the same overall effect and save the player a lot of futzing around in menus.

Menu complaints aside, the difficulty of the battles shows off the strengths of the combat system well. I'm looking forward to more of it, even though some grinding will clearly be required.

I've been playing more of this, and am well into Day 3. I'm mostly staying on top of things, combat-wise, although my recently-acquired fourth party member is lagging behind a little. In part this is due to a lack of abilities to give him (which problem seems to be tapering off now) and in part due to no clear scheme presenting itself for his squad. I've been making a lot of use of Devil Speed this game, but seem to have reached a point in the level curve where there are no convenient demons that have it any more.

Recent battles have been somewhat hectic, mostly due to trying to keep one NPC or another alive (sometimes with extra bonus civilians) while still lining up skill cracks. I'm also starting to slip a little on keeping my demons up to date; a lot of my choices are between older, lower-level ones with a skill loadout that I like, or new-purchased ones with higher levels but not many skills to speak of. There's also the odd fused demon where the parents were only able to contribute skills that were sort of appropriate.

The plot is at least as involved as I remember. They're not all of the same magnitude, but there are something like seven or eight different plot threads going right now. I don't think I've cut myself off from any endings yet, but I imagine I'll manage to do so before too long here.

I also notice that the game's voice actors seem to overlap a bit with those in Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward (and also I'm pretty sure Richard Epcar is providing "extra voices"). No particularly weird juxtapositions yet.
