Started in on this, and while it has a lot of negatives, I'm enjoying it. After 12 battles, I think I've finished the key missions but when this came up:

So I went right into this, starting as a Knight again. I focused almost all my gains on strength and dexterity as I try to prepare to wield the weapons I want to use.

I also spent a ton of time in co-op.

Spoiler (click to reveal)
I felt like I leveled too much in the first game, so I used all my extra souls from co-op to improve my gear as much as possible and to buy things like the silver cat ring! I wonder if the game doesn't track total souls earned rather than level, though, as I'm finding it more difficult to keep co-oping.

Plot wise, I've killed the last giant, but I haven't fought the boss on the top of the tower with the two ballistae in my home game yet. I have rescued the female pyromancer from petrification and have unlocked the mansion in Majula. I'm currently up to four estus flasks, though I also have a ton of life gems, so I should probably try to press on to the next area. If I remember right, level-wise, I'm in my mid twenties or so. I wonder how much more I should level before moving on?

Bought the special edition 2DS and started playing Pokemon Yellow this week. What's making it more fun is the fact my wife is playing Pokemon Blue and my daughter is playing Red. I may actually complete the bloody thing this time, unlike when I first played it in around 1999/2000.

Finally getting around to playing this, thanks mainly to putting it on my hardcore list. Although after getting a few endings, I'm realizing it's not really a game you "beat" so much as walk away from when you feel you've explored enough. This is definitely the type of walking simulator game that will not be for everyone, and I understand why some people would not enjoy it at all, but I found parts of it quite charmingly depressing.

Not overly thrilled by this. They didn't provide FOV adjustment despite a lot of bluster about how "PC friendly" this title was going to be and so, of course, it's a game that makes many people nauseous. Morons.

The UI, while snazzy, just has too much going on and can be somewhat confusing at times. Graphically it's just trying WAY too hard.

The city and art in general is quite good (for what is basically an MMO) and the shooting feels nice, too.

But in the end, it just feels way too much like a typical MMO for it to have much hold on me. I sit down to play it and end up thinking (after only a few minutes), "Why play this when I can play the VASTLY superior Rainbow Six: Siege FPS game?"

I've been playing the series, just finished the 3rd episode this morning, so two more to go. So far I've really enjoyed it, and I've gotten some really good laughs out of it too. It's nice change of pace for all the FPS I've been playing for a long time now.

I have my Blade Vortex Witch up to level 65. I bought a Tabula Rasa for about 87 coins and that has my tooltip DPS around 4500, which I believe is for just one blade! Casting Bone Offering on myself makes me nice and tanky. I also am using Blasphemy on Warlord's Mark and Assassin's Mark with the ability to cast another curse.

I also completed the Labyrinth on Normal and Cruel.

I am about to enter the mines in Act 4 Merciless. After a few more levels to reach more health nodes, I should be ready for maps. Sitting at 3000 health at the moment.

Apparently EA released the extra vehicle DLC for this game on Origin some time ago without any fanfare or announcement. I just discovered it this last week by accident and bought it.

It's only $1.49 on Origin, and it works on both Origin and Steam versions of the game (after you login to your EA/Origin account while in-game).

LINK: https://www.origin.com/en-us/store/buy/burnout-paradise/pc-d...

This gives you the "Legendary" cars (Back to the Future Delorean, Ghostbusters Hearse, General Lee, Knight Rider), the Micro Machines style cars, a couple cars with unique boosts, and unlocks all cars in the game (you still get to wreck them as you license up during the game, though). I only wish the "Time Saver" pack that unlocks all cars in the game was optional; I liked the sense of progression with the car unlocks.

So me and my 5 year old son who loves cars started playing it a bit, again. It's a straightforward, fun, car game. With a few changes, this game could be the PERFECT open world car game. (If I could replace "DJ Atomica" with voice acting by Will Stamper, that would be great)

I've always liked this X-COM game, set in the futuristic Robocop-style city of Mega-Primus that boasts within its massive walls a wonderful utopia (of the "Brave New World" variety) with post-apocalyptic-esque gang-ridden slums surrounding. The RTS system is kind of funny, in that its a good strategy to let my soldiers dual-wield two machine guns, auto-cannons, or sniper rifles, and make it rain bullets in the aliens' general direction. There are a lot of good ideas that went into this game, many of them with sloppy or poor execution, though. I plan on writing a review when I eventually travel to the aliens' dimension and finish the game.

As a longtime Master of Orion fan, you'd think I'd have known about SotS--but I didn't until a few days ago. I bought AI War: Fleet Command and then noticed an ad for SotS when I checked out, so I bought that too. Older games are cheap nowadays; I can afford to collect a bunch even if I never get around to playing them.

Anyhow, I've started into both games. That is, I've gone through the tutorials. SotS also has a manual, and I've read half of that. But so far I've only made abortive attempts to actually play the game.

Last night I finally finished a game of Civilization V: Brave New World that had been dragging on for several days (played as Poland on a map of western Europe; I owned the Iberian peninsula, expanded through the British Isles and into Denmark, and won a time victory in 2050). So I started up a game of SotS.

It was too late at night; I should've just gone to bed. I could hardly even get the camera to work, much less achieve anything in the game. I built a few ships and sent them in random directions. Then I decided I'd better redo the tutorials or finish reading the manual--or at least sleep on it.

But I'll be back to try again.

Tryp_Switch is level 59 63 - start of Merciless A3, Lab done in Normal/Cruel.

Had a Tabula Rasa drop in Normal Lab, has made things a bit smoother. Encountered Argus, Izaro's pet, in Cruel Labyrinth for the first time. "Nope'd" it out of there real fast. Overtuned anti-melee boss fight? No thanks.

I have been having issues with the game "flatlining." Doesn't crash, but my "ping" goes through the roof and while effects continue to play on screen, everything stops moving. After 5+ mins, it rubberbands back into place (all actions that should have happened over that time happen in like one second.) Not a fun experience in the Labyrinth, when you're 1 or 2 "rooms" from the finish.

Did a little rare shopping and maxed out resistances, upped my armour rating. Worked Warlords Mark into some triggers so that I'm now stacking 7 endurance charges consistently, with fortify always up due to cyclone.
I run surgeon's life and quicksilver flasks, and with Trypanon always crit-ing, the build has become Flask of Exile. I moved my hand to rest on 1-4 keys and I just right-click+potion. No other active skills.

Also discovered that Leap slam is a terrible skill to use with my weapon (base attack speed of .63.) Switch to Lightning warp + less duration + rapid decay, and I'll probably add faster casting in there.

Another nice/unique feature of Trypanon is that I can use cast on crit with vengeance for trigger spells like curses and molten shell, allowing for max level spells without the damage threshold penalty of cwdt.

When I hit level 85, I should have > 6K life, 8 endurance charges, fortify, 20k armour unflasked, when I flask it will get up to 50k. With the max endurance charges giving elemental damage reduction, fortify up and a couple additional sources of phys damage reduction, I plan to tank Core Malachai. We'll see how it goes when I get there.

I think this may be my first build that hits 90. It's a hardcore-derived build focused more on not dying than super-dps, so I should be able to gain exp steadily in mapping without loosing it to deaths too much.

In other news, my friend has gotten me an invite to a Pathfinder Roleplaying Game (1st Edition) group. I have never participated in a live rpg before and I'm pretty excited to try it out. I have been reviewing the core rulebook (its huge!) to try and get a sense for what character to create and how to play. The smartass in me wanted to make a half dwarf half ork, and call him "Orf, the Dork." But really, what to pick? Not a rogue or archer type, I just don't like those kinds of characters as much in RPGs. Maybe a sorcerer, wizard, druid, or cleric. My buddy is dead set on paladin and another guy is playing a goblin rogue. There's one other guy who I don't know what he'll pick.

Ahhh I am playing entirely too many games at once!

I've been playing The Division over lunch with various workmates; only level 6 so far, so there is a long way to go. I like a lot of the stuff in the game, and playing with a group over chat is great, since it lets you work together tactically.

I'm continuing my progress in AC4: Black Flag, and turning off notifications has improved the experience. Some parts of the game can sometimes feel more like work than play, but overall I'm enjoying the experience. This game is definitely a case of setting my expectations too high, since many have said it's the best AC game in the series.

I also continue progress in XCOM:EW. Australia has left the project, and I still am not utilizing much of anything new in the expansion since I'm still prioritizing basic functionality by putting money into economic expansion (satellites) and better armor/weapons/training for my soldiers. I was expecting to play more Ironman-ish than I am, but after naming and changing the appearance of my soldiers, I don't want to have to recruit more, so I continue to reload when someone dies.

A patch for Divinity Original Sin came out recently, so Seth and I are back into it in hopes that the problem we were having with saves is no longer going to plague our progress. I'm torn between a 2H weapon or sword & shield for my fighter character...

Moving right along in this. Probably a third or so through the main story, picking up sidequests here and there.

Arkham Knight isn't bad, but it's a big step down from it's predecessors. There's no getting around the fact that the game would be significantly improved simply by subtracting the Batmobile and all in-game tasks associated with it. At least with the Batmobile, though, you can appreciate that Rocksteady wanted to take on the challenge of a major new addition to their formula.

What makes no sense whatsoever is the way Arkham Knight feels like a lobotomized version of the previous titles. Specifically, here the series descends into generic openworld design, generating side content in a bare-bones, low-effort, formulaic fashion. The way the game foists busywork on the player would have seemed lazy in 2011, when Arkham City dominated the critical scene. Rocksteady stoops so low here that Batman has to clear city districts of watchtowers, drone patrols, etc. This stuff was horrifically dull when the Assassins Creed, Saints Row, and Infamous franchises were doing it years ago. Heck, I'm pretty sure this stuff was dull before the Batman Arkham series even existed.

It's just so sad.

Take this as an example. During the main story, there's generic car chase. You follow an APC, slowly take out three escort vehicles (at no risk to yourself whatsoever), then take out the slightly more armored target. Trivial. Dull.

After wrapping up that part of the narrative, Alfred calls in to tell you that each of Gotham's three islands has a few identical vehicles, basically saying that you can replay an awful story mission a dozen times as a "sidequest."

That's Arkham Knight in a nutshell. We'll never know why, but a legendary game developer decided to imitate content patterns that players have hated for the duration of their trilogy's existence.

Last week I beat this with an all-science team. I did well, but came in just short of the high-end 5000 renown benchmark. Since then, I've been thinking about how to kick it up a notch. The big thing is the power levels of the diverse research projects. Some of them seem much better than others, and when you take them and how you synergize the projects seems really important. In particular, the Anthropology (I think it's called) tree, with its abilities that boost encounters (including an ability that restores a supply to you when you win an encounter) are really strong. Make encounters a resource pinata, while making them more or less free to engage in, supply wise? Yes, please! Encounters are supposed to be a challenge to obtain a reward, while that tech tree makes them a reward in their own right. A really, really good reward, especially if boosted by the right specialists. As it is, I'm gaining something like seven bonus tokens (in addition to the two you get for winning) and a supply each time I win a battle. Also, stacking specialists and abilities to boost one of my member's bonus tokens when he wins at the adventure wheel, combined with perks that increase his odds of winning at said wheel, has resulted in ridiculous payouts. After finishing the Emerging Isle last night, I'd accrued 107 study tokens, which is just nuts. I'm going into Shangri-La at 3800 renowned right now (2500 is required to win the game - I'm already there, with the most valuable expedition yet to go). My characters have full equipment slots with all but one of them being occupied by the best equipment going. Shangri-La should be a cakewalk this time out. This game's systems, and the way they can be manipulated, are awesome. It's been a lot of fun to wrestle with this game and then to get the hang of it, to the point where I feel like I've got a good idea of what's going on, at least as far as research goes. There's still plenty of room for improvement, but now that I'm getting this game, I need to kick the difficulty up a notch - see how that goes. I expect there'll be another learning curve.

Sorry I haven't been around the last couple weeks. Combination of lazyness and being sick for part of that time.

Pretty much just more GW2. Last night, the guild finally managed to expand the mine (our first expanded main building), and hit level 21.

A lot of our evenings have been with Indra, and a lot of that with Fractals. All three of us have now hit every fractal from 1-20, which is worth an achievement. Getting through the late 'teens put us in a couple new ones, and in different versions of some early ones.

If I never see the Aquatic Ruins fractal again, I'll be happy. The early 'dark path' version isn't too bad, but I still find the hunt from place that doesn't kill you to place that doesn't kill you annoying. The second 'dolphin path' version was worse, basically being a the same type of 'monsters will kill you' obstacle course as the guild race events. I have yet to ever finish one of those. Thankfully, one person getting through allowed us to reset past it, and I ended up doing a lot of the work for the final boss.

Fractal 20 was a completely new boss fractal (as well as introducing agony, a heath drain that can be countered by specialized equipment). Really, really tough. The fight goes through 3-4 different phases and the second-to-last one was really hard on us. Then the last phase surprised us, and we wiped just as Ghylan was about to land the final blow. Unlike previously, the boss reset at this point.

We got through it all a lot better the second time, but still had a few wipes. So, by the end just about all our gear was broken. In GW2, you can tell that gear is fully broken because they turn it off on your model. So... Jade Maw was beaten by Team Nekkid (and just before Indra had to sign off!). ...Didn't take any victory photos of that one. shake

Our schedule has been put of of alignment by the fact that the US goes to Daylight Saving Time weeks early now, so Smudge and I have finally been getting through the Season 2 story again, and hit the mid-point last night. I'm finally going to get to see Silverwastes, which Smudge and Indra have been farming in for a while....

I'd only been playing Sunless Sea and The Wolf Among us last week so needed a bit of action this week. Looking through my library I noticed Left 4 Dead 2 which I have had since 2010 and never played... blush

Just been playing it single player with the bots. It's been a while since I played the original game but it seems very similar. Quite good, though I hate the jockeys! The witch is as deadly as ever. And I keep getting killed trying to get over the roller-coaster. shake

I played a couple more matches of Battlefront last night to try out the new maps. There are now 7 large maps in the game (up from 4 at the game's release). The new ones are a Hoth map that takes place during a blizzard at night and an Endor map that takes place after the Death Star was destroyed (you can see the destroyed shield generator in the background and various parts of the level are charred or on fire with some wreckage strewn around).
