Dr. Board Game
Samurai and just below the title I read: "By Dr. Reiner Knizia."
On his designer page, "Dr. Reiner Knizia" is listed as an alternate name. In almost every interview I've seen with him, in articles that mention his name, even in video reviews of his games, his illustrious title of "Doctor" is given in this way. This is the case even when Knizia himself begs his interlocutor to just call him "Reiner!"
Why does everyone do this? There are lots of game designers in the industry who have PhDs, and we never address them as "Dr." Is it a status thing? A convention? Just an old habit?
Whatever the reason, I'm making this list (and I encourage you to contribute) in order to celebrate the many other famous people in our hobby who have designed, published, reviewed, or promoted board games and who can call themselves "Doctor," but who rarely do.
