In the vein of Playing Alone Together this is a place to go if you like to play an RPG that you usually play solitaire with other people who ALSO usually play solitaire RPGs.

See a game on SROYT that you would like to learn? Do you want to run a PBF as a GM and you are looking for players? Looking for players to go on an adventure run by using the Mythic Game Master Emulator? Anything else? Post about it here!

Format:
Post a game you would like to play online.
List how you would like to do it: PBEM/PBF?
How many players are you looking for?
Experience level?
How often are you probably going to be able to post?

Very important:
This isn't for hardcore play or hardcore players.
We're solo gamers, we're used to going at our own pace, so if you're going to get ticked if someone takes 2 days to make their move, then you may want to try another list.

Now, choose your weapon and have fun!

Okie doke. I was looking at all the Marvel Heroic stuff, but I realized I really should get myself back into the Torchbearer mindset for next month, so I told myself to just focus and throw this out there.

1. No more than Four players. The game doesn't scale very well, and I'm also relatively new, so let's not add another level of difficulty to this, huh?
2. Played over roll20.net. I'm "running" (havn't had a session in a while) another game of Torchbearer over there and it's working wonderfully. I believe it can handle play by email/post/whatever since you can save states. This way we can draw maps, use the players deck and give handouts, etc. And if for some unholy reason we're all online at the same time, it's excellent to play with video and microphone.
3. I'm willing to teach if you're willing to learn. It's got a bit of a learning curve because it doesn't play like a typical Dungeon Crawl. It's more a game about survival than heroism. You are murder hobos, not warriors. The reason you're going into crypts for treasure is because you can't get any other job. The rules are there to promote roleplaying helping each other (or denying that help), bolstering your own Beliefs (or agonizing over betraying them), careful planning of packing for a long trip into a dungeon and the hazards of spending a long time underground with no access to natural light.

If it sounds like fun, post a message and we can get this party started.

So to speak.

So far:

1. The rev
2. The poer
3. The gov
4. The, um, Dave?

Expect first messages and things on Monday.

I would love to GM a play by forum version of this fun and low-crunch RPG. In essence the game is a recreation of a 1980s action cartoon, think He-Man, Thundercats, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Voltron, Thundarr the Barbarian, She-Ra etc.

From gallery of reverendunclebastard

I think we could handle up to 6 players without too much trouble.

We would begin by collectively creating a "series" by choosing a name and a tagline. We would also determine genre (i.e. medieval fantasy, giant transforming robots, cosmic crime fighters, anti-terrorist team with unique vehicles, etc.). We set "dials" for realism, tech-level, violence, magic/no-magic etc. A "series" can also be episodic (each session stands alone) or serial (an ongoing story from episode to episode). A season is made up of six episodes, and each episode is divided into a number of scenes. Between episodes characters regain "oomph" which are special points to affect die rolls, storyline, etc. Between seasons characters can level up.

From gallery of reverendunclebastard

Then each participant would create a character. It is a D12 based system but it is very flexible. Each person picks a number of traits and qualities for their character. There are no predefined lists of traits/qualities, just examples to get you started. You get to create your own traits. Each trait is bought at a certain level (usually 1-5) and if you can make a compelling argument why it applies, you add its level to your D12 roll for the test.

From gallery of reverendunclebastard

For example, if your trait was EXTENDABLE RUBBER ARMS 3, you could argue that it applies to trying to grab a goon and toss him into a wall. Given that it seems reasonable that this trait would apply, you would roll and add 3.

From gallery of reverendunclebastard

Once characters are created, as a team you also get points to buy "playsets" (i.e. underground arctic headquarters, flying command zeppelin, orbiting satellite armoury) which will add to the theme and give you extra traits when a scene takes place there.

From gallery of reverendunclebastard

There are also rules for transforming characters (i.e. the hulk, transformers, go-bots etc.) and rules for characters combining themselves or their vehicles together into a giant form (i.e. voltron).

From gallery of reverendunclebastard

Once we have collectively built our series and characters, I would need a week or so to create the Arch villain and other NPCs and figure out where to start the story, then we would be off into some hilarious and entertaining adventures.

From gallery of reverendunclebastard

Expectations for posting would be light, I know we are all busy. If you can commit to posting once every 2-3 days it should be plenty.

You definitely don't need the rules to join, I will teach as we go and it is very rules light. However, the rules are a great fun read and are available as a $12 pdf here:

http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/121604/Cartoon-Action-Ho...

Just comment below if you are interested, first six players are in. Feel free to start discussing the kind of "series" you would be most interested in.

So with our PBF game of Cartoon Action Hour well underway, I find myself with enough time to get another game going.

This time it is the small press setting "Sunken Empire" for Fate Core System.

Think of this setting like an underwater, Victorian steampunk version of Firefly.

From gallery of reverendunclebastard

Something strange has happened to the sun, and life on the surface has become untenable. Couple this with the recent discovery of energy providing coral, and the resulting coral technology boom, and Queen Victoria has ordered the Empire to retreat beneath the waves.

From gallery of reverendunclebastard
Several cities have been built under the ocean, under the tight grip of the British Empire. These cities resemble Victorian London, with their Gothic architecture and dimly lit streets, except in these cities the sun never rises. Buildings are protected by airlocks instead of doors, and underwater tubes connect buildings to each other.

While the rich are provided for, the poor live in frequently flooded tenements or in smaller outer colonies where coral is processed and the necessities of life in the Empire are produced.

From gallery of reverendunclebastard

Chafing under the Empire's iron grip, many have turned to piracy and exploration for survival. You are the members of the crew of a small coral-powered submarine, plumbing the depths for treasure, adventure and revenge on the Empire that has wronged you.

From gallery of reverendunclebastard

As mentioned, this game will be run with Fate Core. I am looking for four people to join the game. Experience with Fate is not necessary, but it would be helpful to download the free rules and give them a quick read:

http://www.evilhat.com/home/fate-core-downloads/

Fate is a narrative focused game with a focus on story rather than mechanics. It is a lot of fun and I am looking forward to playing a game with this ruleset that isn't solo!

As mentioned, I am looking for four players, so the first four people to respond below will be accepted. I am looking for folks who can post at least once every 2-3 days. I understand that occasionally life will get in the way but would like to keep this game moving at a fairly steady pace.

Expect character creation to take a few weeks, then we will jump right into the adventure!

RPG Item: Book 06: Deathtrap Dungeon
Ok let's do this.

Since I had such a blast last year with this gamebook here, I thought that the Fighting Fantasy gamebook system would work just fine for an RPG PBF. So I want to give it a try.

We will use pre-generated characters, so we can jump right in. We go with just three basic traits: skill, stamina and luck, add a few items and go. Combat will be just as easy as in the book, basically just rolling dice and see who's better. What I aim for is to have fun and tell a good story. And I think the easy FF rules come at handy here. So nobody needs to read tons of rules or gets confused if one has been off for a few days.

A few things:

- speed. I am trying to be online each day, but can't promise. So no stress here. If you can't be online every day, that's just fine! But if you are looking for a fast PBF, this won't be it.

- I have no idea at the moment how to host this. Feels out of place to host it at the gamebook's page. A geeklist would work. Each scene has it's own entry. Let me think about it.

- I have an adventure which I created for one player only and I've never run a PBF, so I am looking for a small group. 2 players. Sorry folks. I once geekmailed about all this with another user and he said he would join this right away. I've just sent him another message, since this is old news to him, but if he's still interested, he's in. So there is only 1 spot left for this.

And here are our foolish brave adventurers:

I feel like I must be about the only person that bought this. I really love the setting, but I realize it may be rather niche. It is essentially a sword and sorcery version of pre-Columbian America, with fantasy versions of various Native Nations and the addition of ersatz Vikings(!) in the northern reaches.

I've wanted to play this solo as well, but it is a setting for Savage Worlds, and it doesn't really do much for me.

Would anyone want to join if we used something like Mythic GME and/or something like FU? I know it well enough that I am fairly confident I could adapt it to another system.

I'd even be willing to run it in Savage Worlds if I have to.

What do y'all think?

I've been getting the itch to run Something. I've been reading a lot of different books. Most recently GURPS: Ghostbusters, which sounds like fun.

Anyway, I'm kind of in the mood to run something crunchy, but I know that's not everyone's forte. So anyway, here's where I'm leaning:

GURPS 4th ed. - You'll be able to get by getting GURPS Lite for free. Character creation is a pain, but after that it's smooth sailing.

Marvel Heroic Roleplaying: Basic Game A non-intuitive system, but damn if it's not fun as all get out. Uses the Cortex system, if you're familiar with other games that use that (Firefly, Leverage...maybe others).

WEGS 101: Old Skool Odds and Gods. You know what you need to roll and you roll it. Wacky system of trying to beat the odds to beat the kobolds.

Torchbearer. Okay, nobody liked it last time, but I still love this system, so maybe someone will want to play this.

Storylines for all the above systems would be created using various Mythic systems, or the Ultimate Toolkit, which was a PDF I apparently acquired a while ago.

Let me know if any of these strike your fancy...or hell, if you have another idea, I might run that, too. I'm getting antsy.

So as I said, I am looking for one more player. I would love to have one aboard with whom I haven't played so far. Ok? So new players come on!

The only thing I ask you for (if you think about joining) is that you should be able to do a post every 1-3 days. I've done a few PBFs by now and it's always a drag if you have to wait for one player each and every time. But don't worry, there will be times that I won't be able to post for a week, too! All I want is that it's not your common way of posting/playing.

And keep in mind this will go on for a few months!

We will use very easy rules, basically the same I/we used during the two games I already ran:

https://boardgamegeek.com/article/27810673#27810673

I have two settings in my mind and I don't know which one it will be.

1. will be a WWII setting
2. a space themed setting

One of those will be our game. Just so you know.

So come on guys! One spot is free for sure.

This won't start soon, I am quite busy at the moment and have not even a skeleton of a story yet. So don't worry, we won't start tomorrow!

PS: if you are interested, this is how we will play:

https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1909815/ic-phantom-island

I will use a lot of pictures again to create some scenes.

I mentioned this in a post on SGoyT and a few people were interested, so let's kick some ideas around and see if we can get it off the ground.

This is a very loose, GMless game about an isolated group of people and how their language changes due to that isolation. It's also about how that isolation eventually breaks down and they, as a people, are lost.

You can see the handouts here:

Right here.

It'll give you an outline of a game, as well as the 4 settings the game comes with. There's a few more settings, actually, but those are the ones suggested for first time players.

The game is also played with cards, so I'll want an email or other way to contact everyone privately so I can send images of the cards to everyone as they are "dealt out."

From gallery of CthulhuKid

I think 3 other players should be a good number as this is my first time playing. That'll give us, say, a week or two for outpost creation, then 12 turns of Act I, II and III and an epilogue from everyone. If we can keep to a post a day from whomever's turn it is, we should be done in the high heat of summer.

I've already said too much. I'll leave it open for questions now.

Also consider that this will take a few months before we are finished!

This is for everybody who (maybe finally) has the time to join and try such a thing as a low rules RPG. Anybody can join, but I will limit this to four (4) players.

We will use a very simple set of rules:

Yes, that link brings you to one of my Geeklists of a solo RPG campaing using a homebrew version of the Fighting Fantasy gamebook rules.

I have no idea what adventure we will go on, but I will have something for you once we start.

Any setting will do, if you have a favorite one just leave a comment about it here.
