Inspired by the first Solitaire Games around the World (SGatW) initiative created by Shawn Baldwin (who was inspired by Sundog), I decided to create a Second Edition/Season 2/HN Edition...?

It may not be a surprise to You that Hostage Negotiator was chosen

Below the list of participants so far.
The order is not final, however. The game has already been to Japan and Canada. It is taking a tour of the United States and then hopefully going to Europe.

So, here we are. Starting in Warsaw, the capital of Poland.
The guy responsible for making Warsaw the capital city is king Sigismund III Vasa, who moved here with his court from Cracow in 1596.
To honor him his statue was erected in 1644 by the orders of his son - King Władysław IV Vasa. It caused quite a controversy, because it was the first statue not depicting a saint.
From gallery of mikolajl

The oldest "skyscraper" in Warsaw is the PAST-a building named after the Polska Akcja Spółka Telefoniczna (Polish Telephone Joint-stock Company). There were fierce fights to defend the building during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 and it was held in Polish hands until the end of the Uprising.

Here just after the war:

And lastly, in my post in the previous SGatW I wrote about a visit to the Legia stadium. We went on to win the Championship and the Cup. Then we managed to qualify for the Champions League. After the first match in the Champions League in which we were beaten 0:6 by Borussia Dortmund it didn't look that hopeful. However after a change of coach we lost the second game to Sporting Lisbon 0:2, but things were looking better. After that we:
- scored out first goal: Real Madrid - Legia 5:1
- got our first point: Legia - Real 3:3 (we came back from 0:2 and were leading 3:2 with 3 minutes left)
- participated in a match with most goals in history: Borussia - Legia 8:4!
- got our first win: Legia - Sporting 1:0
This allowed us to qualify for the Europa League Final 16. We will play Ajax Amsterdam.

My son got to lead one of the Legia players onto the pitch before one game (in the Polish League - not Champions League). He is the one on the left.

Anyway, back to the game :-)
I played a game against each of the base game Abductors as well as the ones from the Abductor Packs 1-4.

Arkayne - Win
Donna - Loss
Edward - Win
Connor - Win
Twins - Loss
Lt. Jackson - Loss
Gonzalo - Loss

Detailed descriptions follow in the comments.
The game against Connor was rather unique.

It has arrived in the land of the rising sun! Now I just have to teach myself how to play it again!

More soon....

And so here we are, ready to leave the house for a day at work.

We are so lucky as today is the annual take your game to work day!

Though not so lucky as this was the least crowded train I was on today.

This here is the most interesting building on my daily routine, the Nagoya City Science Museum, which is just around the corner from my work.

Who would think a hostage type situation could be just about to occur!

More soon...

I must admit I never got too familiar with the game in the past but this first go in sometime was quite tense and fun. I just managed to eliminate Arkayne right before the Pivotal event. Sadly, only four hostages made it out alive.

From gallery of Flabbergasted

ack! Just realized during cleanup I was much harder on myself than necessary by forcing myself to go through too many demands!

I'll try to knock a few more Abductors tomorrow night.

Sorry everyone, I have been playing as much as I can but have been terribly remiss in my reporting duties.

My next two outings after Arkayne were against the other two base game opponents Donna Scarborough and Edward Quinn and unfortunately each play was quite reminiscent of my first plays of Hostage Negotiator which prevented me from getting too much into the game, i.e. rolling all blanks. No mater what I tried the dice were unforgiving, even rolling five blanks at a time each time I was able to boost my dice pool. I regret to say, very few people were saved.

Last night I had a go at Conner E. Ogden and got back on track. It was give and take all game long. Every gain I made was rescinded by the Terror Cards yet a managed a tense win as I freed four hostages and took out Conner just before the Pivotal Event. His 2nd in Command took over and I was able to free the last two hostages by earning and spending a few scant(3)conversation points in my opening move to grab up and use the one card that could spring them both. It was risky but it worked!

Sorry for the delay! Here is the wrap-up:

In a very rare case I was able to eliminate both the Pedersen Twins and manage a loss to the 2nd in Command. My first Terror card led me to the Decide cards and I took the shot on Dolph. I think I would have managed this one had I not drawn the Terror Card which forces you to discard half of the Terror Cards or two and a reshuffle. I just couldn't get the momentum going to save the last two folks.

I played Lt. Jackson on the medium setting. This may have been the most straight forward win as I was able to get the threat level down to S early and keep it there. The only frustration was that meant every time a Stockholm card went up I lost a hostage to it. I was able to grab thm back though through the Major Demand Cars and extracted the last two hostages by using Media Coverage to grab up All Units Get in there Now during the Pivotal Event.

And lastly, Gonzalo Herrera. I was never able to stop the bus. The minus one penalty for the moving bus and terrible dice rolls prevented me from ever getting to a total of 5 converstaion points to purchase Road Block and the rolls on the very expensive Detour card failed each time as well. I was only able to buy one conversation card all game. Gonzalo drove through town pretty much unnoticed and probably buried all those people in the Desert location.

And that was my run. Sorry it took me way way to long to get my games in. To make ammends I threw in a fair few more promos I had around for eveyone to choose from and a Japanese "Treat" for each and every one of you. I would explain why I've said "treat" rather than candy but, well, you will all see soon enough how weird some may be.

Hostage Negotiator has made it's way from the land of the Rising Sun to the Great White North. It's warm in Toronto today (going up to 11 celsius) but there was snow on the ground last week. My family was about 90 mins north of the city for the week when the package arrived (kids were on March break) and we got to enjoy a few winter activities. Being raised in the city by immigrants (from Portugal) deprived me of some "typical" winter activities. Last week I exposed my kids to a couple of winter activities that were also firsts for me: ice fishing, snow shoeing, dog sledding, and skating on a frozen lake (I've skated plenty in public rinks but never on a lake). It was lots of fun and happy to have experienced these "firsts" with my kids!!

From gallery of mikemartins

Speaking of childhood, True Dough Mania was a game that come out when I was about 10 or 11. I remember asking my parents for it, and being rejected because "I had enough games" in their mind. Little did they imagine the collection of games my kids would have access to. The games I remember playing the most at that time were Pay Day, Risk, Monopoly, Battleship, Operation, Mille Bornes, and Stop Thief (which interestingly enough has a re-print on Kickstarter right now).

Also interesting is that True Dough Mania was a play on words from Trudeaumania which became a popular term when Pierre Trudeau was Prime Minister of Canada at that time. Now, 35 years later, his son, Justin Trudeau, is Prime Minister of Canada... maybe there will also be a Kickstarter to reprint True Dough Mania.

When I got home from my trip, I encountered Arkayne hanging out in my backyard.

On my way to work, I noticed Connor entering my office building... maybe a good day to call in sick.

While I was strolling around my office at lunch, I spotted the Pedersen twins... one buying Toronto Maple Leaf tickets, and the other just down the street purchasing Toronto Blue Jays tickets for the upcoming baseball season. They clearly have different tastes.

Herrera might be thinking of taking a train next time... I think he's had his fill of bus rides.

From gallery of mikemartins

I put some details on my plays in the comments section... the results were:

Arkayne WIN - 6 saved, 3 killed
Donna WIN - 11 saved, 1 killed
Edward WIN - WIN - 10 saved, 0 killed
Connor WIN – 8 saved, 1 killed
Twins WIN - 8 saved, 1 killed
Lieutenant LOSS - 0 saved, 0 killed, 9 in pool
Herrera WIN - 6 saved, 3 killed

Next up is fortheloveofdice or reverendunclebastard... I'm hoping to see both on Monday so I'll pass this off then.

This copy arrived here a couple days ago. In fact, it arrived just a few days after my KS copy of all things Hostage Negotiator (Crime Wave and all extras) arrived. I had the time to play a few learning games against Arkayne and even nabbed a win. So tonight, after watching the Great Solar Eclipse earlier this morning, I opened the box (received from Canada).

From gallery of Ryanmobile

The Great American Eclipse of 2017 under the Path of Totality near my home.
This photo was taken during Totality when the sun was completely covered by
the moon. The brightness you're seeing is actually the sun's corona. It was very
dim and not nearly so bright during Totality with the naked eye. Trick of the
camera. Temperatures probably dropped by 12 degrees Fahrenheit. The ambient
lighting was very dark but still enough light from the corona to compare with a
very late dusk.

I made some time tonight and leafed through all the treasures inside. Well done Mikolaj! You put a lot of effort and care into this. I appreciate how you started it out...but I will say no more. There are already quite the pile of treasures in there!

Solitaire Games Around the World 2 copy of Hostage Negotiator.

Having only played against Arkayne twice, I made a foolish move and played against Gonzalo Herrera. I was impressed to see how differently two abductors played. I was also sorely unprepared to handle the new challenge and only rescued two hostages by the time Gonzalo escaped, though he did not kill any.

I will update with more soon...

Update 23 August 2017
Games played with SGAtW2 copy so far:

Abductor: Gonzalo Herrera
Hostages Rescued: 2
Hostages Killed: 0
Hostages at Escape: 9
Abductor Status: Escaped
Game End: No terror card available for draw
Result: Loss

Abductor: Arkayne
Hostages Rescued: 5
Hostages Killed: 2
Abductor Status: Eliminated
Game End: Eliminated Arkayne with "Sniper, take the shot!", but failed to rescue the last hostage. 2nd in Command assumed control until the last hostage was saved.
Result: Victory

Abductor: Donna
Hostages Rescued: 10
Hostages Killed: 2
Abductor Status: Eliminated
Game End: Eliminated Donna with "Sniper, take the shot!" and rescued the last hostage with a success x2 roll simultaneously.
Result: Victory

Abductor: Edward
Hostages Rescued: 0
Hostages Killed: 7
Abductor Status: Escaped
Game End: Threat marker moved to the "K" space with all hostages remaining in pool.
Result: Loss

Abductor: Edward
Hostages Rescued: 7
Hostages Killed: 0
Abductor Status: Captured
Game End: One success using "Major Extraction" saved the last 2 hostages and allowed me to capture Edward.
Result: Victory

Update 25 August
Abductor: Arkayne
Hostages Rescued: 4
Hostages Killed: 3
Abductor Status: Captured
Game End: Captured Arkayne after the Pivotal Event card was played.
Result: Victory

This one didn't feel like much of a win as Arkayne steadily executed hostages via the Terror Deck even though the threat level was low for much of the game.

Abductor: Donna
Hostages Rescued: 2
Hostages Killed: 1
Abductor Status: Escaped
Game End: Donna escaped after the Pivotal Event card was drawn with 9 hostages still in the pool.
Result: Loss

Just brutal. Couldn't keep my threat level low and failed a lot of my rolls.

Update 25 September

Abductor: Connor Ogden
Hostages Rescued: 6
Hostages Killed: 3
Abductor Status: Captured
Game End: Captured Ogden after the Pivotal Event card was played.
Result: Victory

Abductor: Pedersen
Hostages Rescued: 4
Hostages Killed: 5
Abductor Status: Rolph eliminated, Dolph escaped
Game End: Dolph escaped after Rolph was eliminated during the last conversation.
Result: Loss

Abductor: Lt. Jackson
Hostages Rescued: 0
Hostages Killed: 1
Abductor Status: Alive
Game End: Hostage eliminated on a Terror Card result.

The game has arrived in Greenville, SC! I was amazed by all the cool stuff in the box. I couldn't help but take a picture...
From gallery of fractaloon

Alas, the camera on my phone broke.

So Greenville, huh? It's a small city. I grew up in Miami, Fl and then spent 9 years in San Francisco, CA. Living here has been relatively layed back and quite compared to those places. I like it.. I like the abundance of nature and, though it bothers my internal grid, I enjoy how all the roads curve and meander. I dislike the prevailing conservative politics here, but from what I hear, that is slowly changing in the upstate.

The upstate is what this part of the state is called. As my kids, learned in elementary school, South Carolina is divided in the Coastal regions, Sand Hills, Piedmont (Foot Hills in English) and Blue Ridge. I'm up at the top of the Piedmont.

Apparently there used to be a lot of mills around here, back in the day and for a while, textile was huge. I don't know what, if anything is huge here, though the automotive industry seems to be thriving with BMW & Michelin having prominent facilities here.

---
I played against Arkayne today and that went well! My career as a hostage negotiator is off to a strong start!

I got in a couple more plays in this weekend. I won against the twins but then Edward Quinn went postal on me.

I'l get some more games this week so I can ship it out by next weekend.

---
2017-10-16: This weekend I played against a few abductors and today played against the rest. It was a lot of fun and, boy it wasn't great. Still, I am ready to send the box onward. I really need to because otherwise it keeps getting heavier and heavier.

Yowza! There is a lot of stuff in this box. I look forward to exploring its contents as well as playing this fun, thematic game.

Note the chewed box corner presumably inflicted by Albert’s cat.

EDIT 07-Dec-2017

Game Notes
From gallery of mo7189
Finally got in my first play against Arkayne. It's been quite a while since I last played this game. Things began well enough, but I was playing the slow game and got burned. I spent too much time building up my hand of cards when I fell victim to "I've taken more hostages" with a roll of 1 (+3 hostages) and a failed Minor Extraction with five dice (all 1s, 2s, and 3s). Blah. I ended with four saves, 2 lost hostages, and 4 still in the pool after the Terror deck ran dry. My bad for not attacking the situation when I had the chance.

Personal Notes
I currently live in Downingtown, PA. My family and I have been here for close to 16 years. It's about an hour west of Philadelphia, the place of my birth. I grew up closer to the city, went (sort of) away to college, lived in a few other states through my 20s, and finally ended up back in PA with Mrs Mo about six months before our second daughter was born. When we first moved here, I thought to myself, "Wow, this is out in the middle of nowhere!"

I was used to living closer to the city, in the crowded suburbs. Downingtown seemed "way out in the country" at first. Of course, this area has been growing like crazy since we arrived, and now that I'm more than familiar with the surrounding area at this point, it doesn't feel all that "country" any more. Although, there is a farm down the street from my house. So I get to see some cows chillin' out in the field every week. It's a nice area. Very good school district. We live at the end of a cul de sac with neighbors we like. So no complaints from me.

EDIT 09-Dec-2017 (#1)

Game Notes
Versus: Edward Quinn
Result: Defeat, All Hostages Killed
Saved: 0
Killed: 9

From gallery of mo7189
As I stated above, it has been a while since I last played Hostage Negotiator; almost two years to the day, actually. And needless to say my skills as a negotiator have pretty much remained status quo.

No conversation went well with Edward. He just wasn't hearing anything I had to say. The threat kept bouncing back up anytime I was able to lower it. A failed minor extraction created more tension, and when I tried to talk him into a few more minutes, the situation came a disastrous end.

Personal Notes
Today is my least favorite day of the year. Not because it's the 9th of December, but because we're expecting the first snowfall of the season today. Only two or three inches are predicted, and that's not bad. But man, I hate winter. Hate the cold temps. Hate the short number of daylight hours. Hate the snow. Hate shoveling the snow! Generally, we have all four seasons here in southeastern PA. Although, sometimes it feels like Spring and/or Autumn get skipped some years, going from one extreme to the next too quickly.

For about five years, Mrs Mo and I lived on the coast of North Carolina. That was the best! It cooled down for winter but rarely snowed. I'd move back there in a heartbeat if I could, but the majority of both of our families live in Pennsylvania, so here we stay. Some winters here aren't too bad. A few snow storms here and there but nothing significant. And some are worse. A couple years ago we had a blizzard hit us with a couple feet of snow at once. In the summers, it's warm and humid. We can be consistently in the 90s(F) with high humidity. We might hit 100(F) one or two days, but really, it's the humidity that can be stifling. And I'd take that over a cold, dreary, snowy day in February every time.

EDIT 09-Dec-2017 (#2)

Game Notes
From gallery of mo7189
Versus: Lieutenant Jackson
Result: Defeat, No Evidence Found
Saved: 5
Captive: 3 + 2 w/ Stockholm Syndrome

Well, that was easily my best attempt so far. The terror deck saved two hostages for me, and I pulled off one successful major extraction with a single big turn - you need to trust me (+2 cards) for one success, then an empty promise for two successes (one being a 4 on the die), with major extraction being an "easy" win with three successes on 4d6.

From gallery of mo7189
But twice the threat marker went up to K, and it took me everything I had to move it just one notch lower, back into the 2d6 range so that was two lost turns, so to speak. And one of the terror cards was simply draw the next terror card. I just couldn't muster enough CPs to get decent cards back into my hand after that.

Personal Notes
Two of my favorite "landmarks" in Downingtown are both bridges. Not sure why these interest me, honestly. Never really thought of myself as a "bridge guy." In either case, one is a covered bridge I drive passed almost every day, but I only go thorough it once in a while. It's a single lane, only allowing the flow of traffic in one direction - a direction I usually don't travel. The bridge was originally built in 1872 and rehabilitated (according to a sign inside the bridge) in 2003. It's a small bridge, but it is raised up over a creek and above the level of the street on both sides, so it gives a bit of an amusement part ride as you go up a quick incline, through the "tunnel," and back down to the street via another quick decline. Plus, you get that clickety-clack sound of wood boards under the car as you drive through it, like an old, wooden roller coaster.

From gallery of mo7189
The other bridge is called (as far as I can tell), the Brandywine Valley Viaduct bridge. Not very sexy, I know. And to be honest, it's a fairly ugly looking bridge as well. It looks run down. It is no longer in use. It used to be for trains, not cars or pedestrians. But it's lofted fairly high above the major roadway below by some tall, brick "towers." From my internet searching, it appears to have been originally built in 1903-04. I don't know. It just looks like a relic from another time with its rusting steel, weather worn brick "legs," lack of any type of safety features (no railings of any type up there!), and abandonment of use.

Alright, one more try. I believe this is my favorite of the abductors to play against...and no, not because I actually won for a change. I like the changing location mechanism and how they tweak the gameplay from turn to turn. Sometimes, you blow through a couple without actually being affected by them, but I still find the changing rules and the thematic setting fun and interesting.

In either case, I didn't waste any time for a change. I put up a full on detour on the second turn, stopping the bus, and removing the forest from play. I picked away at saving hostages using minor extraction twice and getting some timely help from the terror deck. I still lost three hostages along the way, but set myself up for a pretty easy win after the pivotal event was revealed. There were no hostages in the pool, so I only needed to stop the bus and grab Herrera.

• First known as Milltown, est. approximately 1716.
• John Downing opened a tavern on the Brandywine Creek in 1761.
• Soon after, his father developed an industrial complex of mills in the area.
• Around the time of the American Revolution, the town became known as Downing's Town.
• During the American Revolution, Downing's Town was used for food storage for Revolutionary troops.
• After the War of 1812, the town's name was changed to Downingtown.
• The stage coach developed through Downingtown as it ran between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, causing growth and prosperity in the area.

It arrived shortly before the holidays so its taken me awhile to open it up. I will admit that the shiny newness of Star Wars Rebellion arriving on Christmas morning may have also caused some delay. My 13 year old son is usually not interested in board games, but Star Wars drew him in. thumbsup

=========================

Here’s a little background on its temporary owner and home.

I grew up in Southern California but moved to New Jersey in 1990. My girlfriend at the time was from NJ and I planned to be here “for a few years” until we returned to California. Well she’s now my wife and it's been almost 28 years, so I think I’m staying.

From gallery of schmittrs

We live in Bedminster, New Jersey, about 35 miles west of New York City. I commute into the city a couple times a week for work. Bedminster is a relatively large town geographically (27 sq. miles) of only about 8,000 people with a lot of forest and horse farms. I knew I had truly adopted my new home when I was on a train listening to the people in front of me making New Jersey jokes, and I got offended! shake

I’ve actually come to appreciate the change of seasons with the rich green of the forests in the spring and summer and the changing colors in the fall. Of course days like today when the high is 12 degrees Fahrenheit really make me question why we live here.

Back in the old telecoms monopoly days, Bedminster was known as the headquarters of AT&T, and we still have offices of the offshoots of AT&T around. But the town really hasn’t been famous for anything until recently. I kind of hesitate to talk about it, but we are in the news lately. I’m going to stay completely apolitical on this and hopefully everyone else can to! Here goes.

From gallery of schmittrs

About 15 years ago the former estate of John Z. DeLorean of Back to Future movie car fame (among other things), was sold to the Trump organization to build a golf course. Fast forward to 2017 and Bedminster is now President Trump’s vacation spot when it’s too hot at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. The funny thing about this is that you really can’t tell anything unusual is going on. He uses a helicopter to get back and forth from the airport so there are no big motorcades going through town blocking traffic. And the club is on the far side of town, mixed in with the horse farms. We saw a Federal Marshall at the local Starbucks one time, but that’s been it. It has been strange seeing our little town mentioned so frequently in the news. The initial coverage talked about how there really isn’t much in Bedminster. The TV people were frustrated that we don’t even have a nice “Welcome to Bedminster NJ” sign they could film in front of.

Other than that, Bedminster is a nice, quiet town that I mostly have to describe to people as being next to the larger, better known towns nearby. But we like it.

Now onto the game! I’ve never played Hostage Negotiator before so I have to learn the rules and sort through the contents of the box. I’ll post more as I start playing!

=========================

Feb 17 Update

Sorry everybody for sitting on the game for so long! Work has been kicking my butt the last month so I've been really slow to get going. I finally went through the box last weekend and it really brought a smile to my face after an exhausting week. There are things in the box that even after looking them up and down I can't tell what they are! I don't want to give too much away but there is one item that involves saving a colony. I went 0 for 4. Hopefully I'm a better negotiator.

I also learned the rules for HN and played a learning game which I won't count for the "official" stats. I have Monday off for the US President's Day holiday so I'm looking to get in a bunch of plays this weekend. So far I have one win against Arkayne, so I'm off to a good start! I'll include details of my plays in a comment below.

UPDATE: June 27, 2018
[Copied from my log entry so that past participants can read it as well]
I received this about two weeks ago and have been losing to Arcayne for all that time until today. My first win. I then played against Donna once, losing but never rolling double 1's (or 6's)

Thematically I enjoyed Edward the most. He never killed anyone, but after the first few rounds it was a problem keeping him calm. It didn't help that I had to get rid of half the red Terror cards (4) and that speedup the process a bit.

I took the Nanoblock Crysler building and added Professor Noggin's National Parks Game as well as Abductor packs #5 and #6.

I enjoyed the game enough to order it & Crime Wave, Abductor Packs #5 & #6, and Negotiator #1 & #2 for myself. I will place the Abductor packs in the HN box. They can be opened by the first person who wants to try them, but please leave them with the game. (Unless

The game arrived here a couple of weeks ago and I've gone through the very heavy box...wow, there is a lot of stuff in here! I'll hopefully have some time this week to read rules and get a couple of games to the table. Either that, or it's coming to WBC (https://www.boardgamers.org/wbcindex.html) with me!

More later...

...Much later, August 1, 2018...

I finally got this to the table today. I played one game against Arkayne. I just managed a win by rescuing five hostages and then going for broke and rolling successfully to eliminate Arkayne. Yay!

I really enjoyed the mechanics of this game, but I really did not enjoy the theme. So, just one play for me, but so glad to have been a part of SGatW2!

I'll be sending the heavy box off to Cygwin here shortly.

Howdy from Albuquerque,

Hostage Negotiator arrived several weeks ago and it took me some time to get to it, but I finally did. I played three games against Arkane and of course lost all three. I had more fun looking through the box of goodies and reading the log than playing the game but that's not the games fault.

I did try some of the Japanese candy and it was not to bad. When trying foreign candy you never really know what you are going to get!
From gallery of Sapper_SB

After losing my three games Arkane took me hostage and made me take him to a couple of places:

From gallery of Sapper_SB

First up was Moab, Utah. This is the only picture I took because the weather was wet and rainy, which is unusual for Utah.

Next up was the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta:
From gallery of Sapper_SB

The Balloon Fiesta has been going on since 1972 and is one of the most popular event in the state of New Mexico.

Other facts about New Mexico:
- Santa Fe is the Nations highest state capital at 7199'
- There is only one city name Albuquerque in the United States
- Hatch, New Mexico is the Chili capital of the world
- The first atomic bomb was exploded in New Mexico

Well, the package has arrived in Tennessee. I didn't realize it, but it sat for a while because it arrived at the same time as our Boy Scouts popcorn and I just assumed both boxes were popcorn because it said "perishable" on the side. Oops!

In fact, it was here before I head left for Essen last Tuesday and I only realized the box must be the game since I'd gotten a message from Shawn that it was being sent a few weeks ago.

Anyway. This really was something truly special to receive. As those before me have said, there really is a LOT of stuff in the box. And it is extremely fun to look through. The care put into setting this up really shows and I can't thank Mikolaj enough for doing so.

Well I am going to try to get some games in very soon. I'm nervous, I feel the expectations are high... I hope I can do well, but it IS Hostage Negotiator, so we shall see...

Since this is around the world and all, I thought it might be fun to show all the different covers of the foreign language versions alongside the original. We have partners for French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, and German.

I have now completed my games against each Abductor. I will post the results later, but it was tough sledding.

Record 3-4
Arkayne - Win
Donna - Loss
Edward - Loss
Connor - Win
Twins - Win
Lt. Jackson - Loss
Gonzalo - Loss

It's back!

Two years to the month after it set off it has arrived back in Europe, the very edge but Europe nonetheless.

It arrived during half term so I am only now getting down to diving in but there is a lot to unpack - literally and metaphorically!

Watch this space, time to see if my Blarney Stone snoggings have given me any advantage at all.

EDIT: 21st March 2019

Okay, well that went.......as expected.

With the build up to St Patricks Weekend and then with going away tomorrow I had to go some to get my games squeezed in, buy a couple of little items to throw in the box, force everything back into the box and tape it up and then get it thrown into the post office.

Suffice it to say I wrote up some notes of my gameplay but unfortunately don't have the time to go into too much detail so I'll see if I can summarise my summaries:

Arkayne - started okay, then he killed two in quick succession. I managed to calm him all the way down but two +2 Terror Threat cards in a row with only 1 die for the Pivotal Event - fail! I obviously took things too slowly.

Donna - took two more hostages from the outset. If I remember correctly I got her calmed all the way down and had 4 hostages to save on the final turn. Pivotal Event was no elimination, so Keep Cool (1 saved), Keep Cool + two face down What Are Your Demands (1 saved, +1 CP) Just Stay Calm (2 saved) used Small Talk face down for 1 CP, bought and used Just Stay Calm for 3 successes!!! That felt good.

Edward - actually my notes don't make sense on this one and I can't quite remember, I know I recorded my result on the sheet in the box but that's taped up now blush

Connor - first 5 Threat Rolls were all failures, not one shield, nada. That's all I remember, must have been good.

Twins - started out similar to Connor but I was pleased with this one in the end as I managed to get them with the speedboat - BOOM!

Lt Jackson - I have never played him before so I was looking forwrad to it and didn't expect much by way of success, good job too. Time is Running Out (had six cards left at the time) followed by Deja Vu All Over Again is about all I remember.

Gonzalo - another new one for me and enjoyed the set up of the bus. Would need more plays to get to grips with it but I liked it despite the -1 whilst Bus Moving was annoying me so I conceded and Major Demand and then the bus stopped and the -1 kicked back in! Got on a roll then but ran out of fuel with just 1 hostage and Gonzalo left. Fail.

Circle of Automa - wow, these were tricky to get to grips with and definitely one that almost requires repeated plays to get my head around all the different cultists. What another clever approach from Mr Morten. Obviousl, failed.

Seaver Family - I enjoyed this one a lot. Quite different and atmospheric. Saved the girl but no sign of the boy. Fail.

Warning Envelope - wow, now that really changed things up. Glad I got a go at it. Won't say anything, leaving it for others to experience fresh.

I also neglected to take photos so instead here's a few photos from our small town St Patricks Parade instead:

The game made it to Wales last week but I've been really busy so, other than a quick peek, haven't had chance to look at all the stuff yet. I'm hoping to get more time on Sunday although that may depend on if my local rugby team make it to the final of the WRU National Cup in their semi-final game on Saturday.

In the mean time, I'll leave you with these images.

Six Nations Champions Trophy (for winning the competition) and the Triple Crown Plate/Bowl (for beating the other home nations - England, Ireland, and Scotland)

Thought I should post an update.
My local rugby team did make the final of the Cup so April was pretty much a right off for me. Spent most of the month producing highlight videos and promotional material for the final (plus doing my day job). The final was last Sunday. The team won the Cup so this week has been equally busy but I have next week off so will be saving as many hostages as possible.

Good News Everyone.
I managed to complete a game against each abductor last week (and over the weekend). It made me realise how much I had missed board gaming (this is the only thing I've played this year other than the Bowling Solitaire league).

As expected, my career as a hostage negotiator did not go well. Not that many hostages died but I lost to 6/10 abductors. I lost the first 3 games badly and expected the rest to go the same way. I left it overnight to play the next 4 games and started getting better results from the dice. I captured the twins and eliminated Gonzalo but Connor and Lt. Jackson escaped. The final 3 games (including the Warning! envelope) were played over the weekend and the results were far better than expected. I beat the Circle of Automa reletively easy as nearly every die roll was successful. I saved the Seaver kids (and mother) and eliminated the father but the aunt escaped. I also beat the Warning! envelope but that was more luck than skill.

Abductor Outcome Saved/Pool/Killed
=========================================================
Arkayne Loss Eliminated 0/5/2
Donna Loss Eliminated 4/5/3
Edward Loss Escaped 3/4/0
Connor Loss Escaped 4/2/5
Twins Win Captured 7/0/2
Lt. Jackson Loss Escaped 0/4/0
Gonzalo Win Eliminated 8/0/2
Automa Win 7/0/2
Seaver Loss Eliminated/Escaped 3/0/0
Warning! Win

I will be contacting Gary soon so the large box of goodness can continue its journey.

I went to the UK Games Expo in Birmingham this weekend and some guy gave me a dodgy parcel in a car park.

From gallery of garyrbrooks

I'm looking forward to seeing what's inside.

Update 18/06/19:

I haven't forgotten about this. Honest.

I have Tuesdays off work I went through the job last week. That was a lot of fun. It's a whole bunch of crazy goodness.

This Tuesday I had to do a few things out and about but I took a small detour to a famous landmark near my house.

From gallery of garyrbrooks

I'm out of the country for a few days and will get my play in shortly after I get back.

Update 03/07/19:

I finally managed to get in a single play of this. I had planned to do more but after one play I was reminded of why I traded my copy away.

From gallery of garyrbrooks

It was no surprise that I lost. I did save 5 of the 7 hostages but Arkayne Massua escaped.

It's been great getting to see al the goodness inside the box and be part of this again. I've added a couple of little things to the box and will be sending it on it's way to Germany soon.
