Very immersed in this one. Just got Shadow and Clean Hands with Corvo. Probably going to do NG+ (as long as I can switch to Emily). I'll probably still focus on stealth to a degree, but with no qualms about lethal solutions.

Missions 3, 5, and 8 are basically why I bought this game. The rest of it is pretty good but those missions are the ones that best capture what Dishonored is all about.

While I wait for Cyan to patch the critical path crash I'm getting in Obduction I thought I fire this up because he^^^^^^ has been going on and on about it and how good it is and blah blah blah

Just started, low chaos Corvo run though. Figure I'll do low chaos Corvo to familiarize myself with the levels and then at some point do murder machine with Emily. Eliminated all of the head bob in settings right away. That crap was annoying. Haven't really played enough to say whether it's good or bad, but it feels like Dishonored which is a very good thing. It doesn't take long to get right down to business. Holy Delilah Copperspoon! Glad Brigmore Witches is fairly fresh in my mind as it made me say "Well, hell. This is going to go south" in the first few minutes of the game.

Like it so far.

Back to playing Terraria. I've created a LARGE world so have a LOT to explore.

I'm not one to build all kinds of fancy things (I make the basic housing, etc. that works without getting any kind of fancy building) but I like the exploration in this game.

(also, still intermixing it with Elite: Dangerous.)

Got this as a gift from Jay Peters on the VGG's Pay if Forward site and am really grooving on its mellow exploration theme. I liked Journey and so far this has the same feel, except underwater.

I'm also playing bits of Asteroid Bounty Hunter which I also got from Seba J on the list.

Been also playing a lot of the lame games from Bundles that I've bought. No winners of note are expected this week. I did almost get into An Assassin in Orlandes and ComixPlay:The Endless Incident, so I might be looking for something more narrative oriented.

I'm thinking of trying another game out this week, maybe Braid, Warhammer Dark Crusade, or Life is Strange.

Playing some more of this. There are multiple branching paths of star systems off of the main route to the galactic core, now. I went down one and found the fairly crowded and venerable Sol system, which I'm now exploring.

Played this all day (couldn't bring myself to get back into AI War: Fleet Command yet), and I'll probably be playing it during the week too.

I played the minicampaign, starting over as Archmage Krell after losing as Sorceress Mordra. That was on medium difficulty.

Later in the day I was tired and felt like playing but not having to think so hard. So I started a campaign as Lord Marcas, on easy. I don't think I've ever played on easy before, but it makes for a pleasant romp. I still lost a unit here and there when I felt I shouldn't have, but mostly I was able to just steamroll ahead.

I still find FG addictive, after all these years. Though it's late and I'm yawning and tomorrow's Monday, I almost started one more campaign scenario. For once, I thought better of it. Now I'm off to bed.

I'm continuing to level my party to get to 99, so I can be powerful enough to fight the colossal adamantoise.

Last night, I saved up enough XP to make the jump from 74 to 87, relying on boosts upwards of 600% to get a decent amount in a reasonable period of time. Tonight I will try to do the same while hunting down bosses.

Friday edit: Turns out, I didn't need to get to level 99. Still at 87, I made an attempt at killing the level 99 adamantoise.

This guy:

External image

I downed it on the first try, as it isn't particularly strong on offense, but it is a damage sponge like no other. It took more than an hour for me to kill it, which in-game meant that the battle lasted more than a day.

Got an email about a month ago about an update to this 4X space game I've been keeping an eye on and decided to give the new update for a spin. I was pleasantly surprised how far and how much things have changed since I last checked a couple years ago.

The name of the game is misleading because it is not a clone of MoO1. Instead they took inspiration from the game. Their design philosophy was making a game that was reminiscent of the 90s and adhered to the principle of K.I.S.S.

The game is still work in progress but it is playable. There are still some glitches (like some words running into each other) but the gameplay is fun. There are now options to control the behavior of the AI. At the moment I'm playing the easiest level. I've tried normal but kept getting crushed after taking over my 3rd planet.

The interface is very user friendly. It did not take me long to get used to playing the game. The tech tree is fairly simple. Combat is automated. However, I don't think combat is as simple as comparing the total firepower between the opposing forces. There are a variety of ship types such as destroyers and fleet carriers. One is stronger or weaker against another. There is a window that text the play by play of combat for each round. At the moment, there is a debate on whether to make combat more involved. Personally, I like the simplicity of the game's combat so far. Many contemporary 4x space games have switched to RTS combat so it is nice to play a game where I can enjoy other aspects of the game without being bogged down with zeroing in on one combat after another.

I really like the variety of space phenomena that can affect the planets or ships that come across them. There are artifacts but I have yet to encounter one (I am controlling only about 6 planets at the moment). The graphics on the main screen is simple but the planets and ships are nice to look at. With ships, you can modify certain parts of it but is not as extensive as modern 4x space games.

I thought this was going to be a boxing game, but there's a lot of kicking going on. This game is like a life sim game but with a focus on boxing. You have to eat, sleep, work if you need money, and train. A lot of training. And every day, you lose stats. So you either train and keep them up, or you don't and lose your skill. There's a boxing match about every 3 days, so I tend to work the first day, train the second day, and top up on the match day, and then fight.

Fights are based on the training and the skills you have, which you can pick out each round for your character to use. The game then decides when and what moves to use, so there is no twitch at all. Story stuff happens as well but so far nothing too drastic or big has happened.

I'm 75 hours in now. The more I'm familiarizing myself with the new mechanisms, the more I realize the AI is terrible. The biggest achievement of Civilization 6, this is, increased depth complexity, has lead to an AI that is utterly unable to plan effectively.

It's not only that it navigates the terrain horribly, it's that it fails tremendously at achieving all non-religious victory conditions. And why is it good with religion? Because it mostly consists on producing lots of religious districts, to pump up religion, and then swarm the opponent with religious units. There's not much depth to it, so AI algorithms have no problem dealing with it.

The thing with all other victory conditions is that they do require strategic planning. Which, coincidentally, means that Civilization 6's AI was super complex to develop. Don't want to get too technical but, basically, AIs struggle less with breadth complexity (number of possible actions per turn) than with depth complexity (number of turns you have to plan ahead). Civilization 6 has trimmed breadth in favour of depth. This makes it's much more enjoyable for those of us who like strategy, but also means it's one of the hardest tasks an algorithm designer/developer can face. And it shows.

I've never liked the way difficulty levels work in Civilization games, which basically consist in giving the AI bonuses. It felt cheap, as the AI was, more or less, competent enough. But here? It really needs those bonuses, due to its massive incompetence. I'll try raising the difficulty to Emperor (6 out of 8), but I'm afraid that it will make dealing with religious AI opponents a wee bit too annoying. We'll see.

On the plus side, I've got some friends who own the game. I'm thinking in setting up a LAN session, as Civilization 6 seems to be the best game of the series to go multiplayer with.

I went back and played some more HITMAN to get the current elusive contract, which takes place in "The Icon" movie set bonus level. I read other people's comments about this one before I did it, so I was able to get 'Silent Assassin' on this one, and unlocked the Absolution and Terminus suits.

This character's impressive criminal history was shown during the intro to the elusive contract (I especially like "Malingering" and "Intent, with intent"):

Also, I played some more Hokkaido and completed all opportunities there, and I'm working on getting to level 20. There are a lot of interesting ways to get around or kill the targets that aren't opportunities, which is good. And there are a variety of ways to kill Soders remotely, which is nice.
Spoiler (click to reveal)
I destroyed his heart, effectively killing him, and then I went to the operating room and killed him a different way, and unexpected achieved the challenge "I think he's dead, now".

Next, I'm planning on Silent Assassin Suit Only, which seems like it would be easier here than on most maps.
Spoiler (click to reveal)
I'm going to try destroying the heart and overheating the sauna with the electronic door hacker in the ICA stash.

The computer AI that controls the facility starts rambling on at random if you sabotage it. Here's an example:

EDIT: I achieved level 20 by completing this level "Silent Assassin, Suit Only", "Silent Ninja", and "Sniper Assassin".
Spoiler (click to reveal)
The last two on the same run, sniping the heart from the morgue area and sniping the lawyer in the room in front of the sauna as the ninja.

Playing through Dragonborn.

Hit a bit of a lull in the main quest of the expansion, because

I'm not really playing through the main story anymore (completed the game 100% in one save slot), just goofing around in this. Currently pretending to be a Greaser, riding bikes, beating up Townies, harassing old hobo dudes... it's a good life.

Prey got me in the mood for an old favorite.

Ran through Med/Sci and Engineering last night. Saved at the start of Hydroponics, where I'll pick up tonight.

If there was ever a game that seemed timeless, it's this one. Despite its release date being closer to the release date of Super Mario Bros. than it is to today (I was stunned when I realized that), if it was released to day, it would still seem absolutely cutting edge. Between everything being in real-time, the way the resurrection chambers are handled (unlike in the Bioshocks, they require money to use, and money is always incredibly tight in this game. If you're willing to "play along" with the game, the resurrection chambers actually make the game harder than a traditional save/load system would have), the ever-present nature of the security systems and the overarching mechanics, it's a game that would be miles ahead of the curve if it was released today, much less nearly 20 years ago.

So, er... a funny thing happened.
I'd been playing this recently, mostly Free Skate mode, decided to give Career a second go, absolutely no reason. Picked Jamie Thomas.

...Holy sh-

I don't know if Jamie Thomas is just a damn sight better than my previous custom character, or if it's something to do with having more experience with the game, but the upshot is I've already made more progress now than I ever did with Luigieno.

In fact, current progress:
Career Cash > $50000
Marseille - Gold
SkateStreet - Silver
All boards for Thomas, max stats in everything except Hang Time and Lip Balance (I don't know what they actually affect, tbh)

Centipede for Game Boy. For some reason I have had this game on the brain the last couple of weeks, so after a hectic day of work and kids' soccer, I spent some time blasting bugs on the couch last night while watching Supergirl with my wife. Amusingly, when I got up to switch the show, my wife picked it up and started playing as well. Her commentary alone made the session worthwhile!
