Talisman - Played a quick game with Matt and Jan. Jan won pretty easily.

Payday 2 - Played some heists with Matt and Jan. I got to level 24 in infamy.

PoE - I am stuck at level 88. Need xp badly!

Borderlands 2 - Playing with Andy and Matt. Lots of fun expected to be had with this.

SpeedRunners - Played a few quick matches with Luis and Jan. Always a good time with those two.

Well, I'm having fun with this open-world all-action bit of silliness. The 80's action cartoon pastiche is right up my alley. The corny gags are just my style too. Fun, chaotic blastyness. We'll see how long it lasts.

Couldn't resist backing this in EA, being riiiight up my alley. If you love Dan Abnett's Ravenor and Eisenhorn books - which would be nice if he finished the last one already - you may like this. Right now it's kinda wash-rinse-repeat, as it is still in Alpha. Basically? It's Diablo 40K. Pick a planet and mission from the deck of the command ship, go in and clean house, get loots and level up. The leveling system, at the moment, is kind of... weird. And the players did not like a big change that they made to Fate, which is kinda the XP-cum-currency. But I'm not playing as much right now - holding off until the next big update.

For anyone interested, I'm playing an Assassin template.

This was a very generous gift from Ooops as he had a spare bundle copy.. so I fired it up today and played through the tutorials and one of the practice sessions.

It's been a long time since I've played an RTS (I think Dawn of War 2 was the last one I played), so I don't know that I'm going to be very good, however I was really enjoying it and it seems to be a very clever game.

I'm now to the fourth world in the game, or realm, or dimension, whatever you want to call it. First was the Forgelands, then the Kingdom of the Dead (which is not controlled by Death for some reason), Heaven's corrupted outpost Lostlight, and now its demonic counterpart Shadow's Edge.

I played some of the open Beta for the next Battlefront this weekend. It's pretty much the same as the last Battlefront, but with stuff taken from all the movies instead of just the original trilogy. The unlock system is annoying, with you having to open crates for small boosts or bonuses for specific classes or heroes. It didn't keep my interest for very long, and at this point I'm mostly looking forward to seeing what it offers for single-player content. Space combat is more interesting and has more heroes, so that's good. It looks like they are offering a lot more single player content than the last game, which is good, since the multiplayer looks like it could be moving towards pay2win microtransactions.

EDIT: I also played a bit of the classic Star Wars: Battlefront II (2005), which has just recently been updated and now has active in-game servers! People are playing it, even with the Battlefront Conversion Pack mod, which is cool.

11. Video Game: Secret of Mana (1993) [Average Rating:8.05 Overall Rank:95]
Video Game: Secret of Mana (1993)
What I played last week:

Sadly, our third and fourth players for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles couldn't make it. aaaand they won't be able to make it this week either. Which is a shame because i was really looking forward to it.

But on the positive side i was able to get an SNES Classic, so we played that instead.

Video Game: Secret of Mana (1993)

I progressed the story far enough to get the second character and stopped so we could play two player. This is the third time i've done the first several hours of this game so I'm wasn't looking forward to it. But if we can get past that point I'm sure i'll start enjoying it again.

we played two player for about an hour and moved on.

Video Game: Kirby's Dream Course

We play a lot of golf games. Well, the silly ones anyway. Mario Golf is a big favorite around here.

This game isn't exactly golf, but its the same idea. Except for on two layer you can hurt the other person and the hole appears where the last enemy was killed.

This one was a lot of fun, i can see us playing this quite a bit in the future.

Video Game: Star Fox

Despite my great love for the SNES growing up, I always stayed away from Star Fox. I had very little love for shooters or the low polygon graphics.

Last year I was able to play this at a friend's house and I really enjoyed it. So i was excited to have a copy on the Classic. Its harder than Star Fox 64. But the games are very very similar. I played Star Fox 2 a bit, but i'm going to wait until I've played the first one a bunch before i move on.

I would encourage people to look beyond the terrible graphics and give this one and honest try. Its more fun than it looks.

Video Game: Motocross Maniacs

I found this at a used game store for $5 over the weekend. I've seen it come up on different forums recently. Its ok. very similar to Excitebike with a few added features.

Video Game: Tetris Attack

I also found this for $5 at the same store. I LOVE the SNES version. This one is almost as good. It might be the most faithful game boy game to its original.

What I plan on playing this week:

Video Game: Star Fox

As i said up top, I'm having a lot of fun with this one. I'm having to attempt the later levels several times but it still is holding my interest.

There is one level design i don't remember the 64 version having. You're stuck in a reactor room and it keeps rotating. You have to dodge energy lines while trying to shoot targets on the wall.

Kirby's Dream Course
Tetris Attack

Video Game: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I need to get back to Breath of the Wild. I had so much fun. I set up a TV in front of a tredmill and told myself i couldn't play unless i was walking. I haven't touched it in two months. I had a hard time finding where to go next and i got bored with temple hunting. But now i'm pretty sure I know where i need to go.

Still working my way through the second end game, advancing through Special Level 7 and onto Special Level 8. It looks like each stage of Special 8 will require a certain number of Gold Coins to unlock, so I'm backtracking once again to find as many as I can (and hopefully stock up as many lives as possible at the same time). But the end, as they say, is starting to get in sight. I think that after the Special Levels I may be "done done" with SM3DL, but I guess I will see once I get there.

While everybody else is moving from Civ V to the new Civ VI, I took a step back. The Civ IV collection went on sale again at GOG, so I sighed and bought it. Just downloaded it this morning and started a game.

Some Civ fans say this version is still the best. All I know is that now I have Civ V on Steam and Civ IV on GOG Galaxy, and it's more Civ than I'll ever really have time for.

Though I've only played for about twenty minutes, I can say I like the opening music better in Civ IV than in Civ V; it's refreshing to hear Leonard Nimoy's voice again; and I'm pleased that I'm getting plenty of in-game hints to save me from having to go read the manual (if there is one).

I'd forgotten about wild animals being some of the first "barbarians" in the game (I played a little Civ IV back when it was new but soon stopped due to computer problems).

The only negative I've run into so far is the map. It's apparently 2D when you zoom all the way out, but that's too far out for turn-by-turn play. As soon as you zoom in, the map tilts and shows up in 3D. But I don't think there's any way to rotate it or anything. Maybe I'll get used to it or find about about some controls I'm unaware of.

I'm well into this adventure now, and it'll be going on a long time, I'm sure.

The first time I played (starting a couple years ago, I think), I got through chapter 3 and had taken a ship to some island to rescue Imoen and confront her captor, Irenicus. But I accidentally lost my saved games while upgrading and switching computers, so I had to start over.

I started over recently with a sorcerer as my main character. She got into the planar sphere and was working on making it her stronghold, but I lost heart when the party ran into some tough battles. Maybe I'll go back and try again, but it'll mean figuring out the right spell combinations, and it's hard for me to get motivated to do that.

More recently, I started over with a half-orc barbarian as my main character. And I'm well into chapter 3 with that party now. I've got major quests in the sewers and the graveyard, but I remember those being difficult. So I'm thinking of taking a detour to the Umar Hills and other areas south of there. Might as well level up more, and I'm thinking I might want to replace some party members anyway.

I FINALLY HAVE THE COMPLETE SOULSBORNE SEQUENCE! (*ahem*. Sorry about that. I'm a bit excited.)

Through the wonder of refurbished consoles and used games, I acquired a (really smelly, but functional) PS3 and a copy of Demon's Souls. So, I'll lose a significant fraction of my waking life to this for a while.

I also picked up Dark Souls (had it and beat it on PC, but wanted a console version) and Gran Turismo 6, because they were having a 3-for-2 deal.

I wish I had read up on GT6. Fun game, and reminds me a lot of the older versions like GT2, but I should be earning some sort of overtime wages for managing all of the updates. Yeesh.

It's a lot of fun, the stories and mini-games are great, but the game is really big. I don't want to get burned out, so I might take a break. Looks to be something like 60 hours to complete. Around 30 in most games, I start getting tired.

Bowling is super fun!
Played a bunch of Out Run too.

They have Texas Holdem', but you can't see the opponents, so it doesn't feel as immersive.

I'm about as good shooting pool, as in real life. Which isn't very. But that minigame feels good too.

This game has a lot of crazy stuff included, which the older games would cut for American releases. I'm glad it's all there.

Met up with Mr. Libido now. We had a few conversations. laugh

It's a bit mindblowing how much game is in here.

Well... I'd had a rant on Thursday night, I took the Friday off from all gaming.

Since then I've played some card games, been goofing around in this (by mercilessly bullying everyone) and been messing around - peculiarly - in Saints Row IV of all things (by aimlessly running about, jumping about, and generally smashing stuff, mostly the Golden CIDs).

With Amy out of town, I figured now was the perfect time to finally finish this without spoiling any of it for her! I made some pretty good progress Sunday and expect to have it wrapped up by the end of the week. I've enjoyed it, though not as much as Fallout: New Vegas and its DLC. I'll do a second play through some day that will include all of the DLC.

Restarted this. Played Gone Home this weekend and am jumping back into Fullbright's newest title. Curious to see how it stacks up.

The Sugar Beet harvester (Rooster) came up in Courseplay as soon as I had it hooked up to a tractor, so that was cool.

I used both hired workers for the sugar beet harvest. One I used to defoliate, the other emptied my harvester. It didn't go swimmingly, because there's so much around that field for Courseplay to get stuck on, but more importantly it worked. So this is something I will do going forward as well but on bigger fields with more space around them. Oh the sugar beets we'll take in, as that tiny field held more than 70k liters.

I also harvested corn which has a pretty high yield as well. My single field gave me 31k of that, while my two smaller barley fields yielded the same, though I think they add up to roughly the same area.

I only got about 15k canola but that's fine.

As I sell it I realize how cheap it all is and how I'm not really making that much money. Especially with the new sugar beet harvesting equipment, which cost around 100k, it takes a couple harvests to make that back. Which means I'm likely to be leasing out the corn chopper again. Another field or two and I'll be able to afford to buy it outright, which will mean I can plant some fields for chopping each harvest instead of feeling like I need to do all of them to make the greatest profits.

Still playing this, and it looks like I've got a long way to go. I'm in Moonshade... I'm going to have to replay a good chunk of the game thanks to it crashing. I'm eager to see all this game has to offer, but it isn't a particularly stable experience.

COMPLETED
--unlocking Daisy (On area 31 of Remix 10)
--unlocked Star 1-5, 7
--completed Star-1 (as in level 1 of Star world), all coins (pink, purple, black)

TO DO
--unlock Star 6, 8, 9
--complete all other Star levels

Got dang it... getting 300 coins, and then 400 coins, on specific World Tour levels sounds daunting, but at least it's nice to move on to new challenges! Killing 20 Ninjis in a single run OTOH... close! 19 of 20!

Unlocked the World Star level that requires you to get 400+ coins

2nd attempt on the 300+ coins on got me to 298, so surprisingly close

I'm quite pleased at the difficulty levels here... it's no pushover.. they're no pushovers. Nintendo still makes you work for them, but there's still some margin for error, which means you don't need to be absolutely perfect and have a dozen ducks lined up in a row.

I've been playing Mario and Luigi Dream Team on my 3DS while my girlfriend hogs the new Switch and plays Zelda. I'm really enjoying the aesthetic of the game -- there are so many animations that are so decidedly unnecessary but absolutely flesh out the characters. Any game of this sort could have easily kept animations to a minimum and relied on dialogue to try to convey character and humor, but I'm so glad that Nintendo put in the extra layer here.

My biggest complaint is that some of the boss battles can drag a bit, especially in the dream worlds where you have only Mario in combat. Often the boss will take two actions/attacks to your one, and each one can take 10-30 seconds to resolve, so most of the battle is you defending against attacks and *maybe* doing some counter attack damage, with a single attack once every minute or so (assuming you didn't need to use your action to heal yourself...). As a result, I feel forced to increase Mario's attack power at all costs to try to speed up those battles.

I've also played a bit of Mario and Rabbids Kingdom Battle (apparently I'm all about Mario-themed RPGs...). It's pretty slow, but after clearing the first world I'm starting to have a few interesting situations thrown at me, and being able to use the skill trees gives me a bit more flexibility in my approach. I really dislike how money = power (in terms of being able to buy weapons that are significantly more powerful as the game progresses), and money is scarce enough that you can't get the best gear for all your members. Where the skill tree customization is flexible and can be reset on a whim, weapons are not at all like that.
