It seems to have become Clicker Heroes all the time. Which means, just as it is at this moment, that I have to keep checking the progress to manage heroes and see if the special powers are ready to combine to overcome some obstacle. I think I have made my build much too active and should transcend and go for a more idle build. I still have not fully understood the full strategic implications but am coming close.

The new area still drops me from the squad when I try to load into a bounty mission roughly half the time, which is frustrating. But at least they fixed it so if you get dropped or switch host after completing the mission, you don't lose your progress. Also, I gathered enough plat and prime parts to feel like I'm playing with the big boys now, having gone into trade chat and spent over 100 plat each for a pair of rivens - one for each of my two preferred guns.

Victor Vran - Andy and Rudy and I were online together, and this was the only game we all had installed and wanted to play. It's still the most action-y Diablo clone I've played, and I love it for that. Also, while it may be the least complex one in terms of crafting equipment, crafting is still important -- after dying a ton in a challenge mission, they both crafted to boost up their armor and stopped dying. Meanwhile, I stayed on for at least half an hour after they left, to manage inventory, transmute-gamble a bunch of things, and boost some weapons.

Renegade Ops - with Ken. I'd started the first level with either Bobby or Wes a few weeks back, but since there are 8 different characters, it was easy enough to pick a new one to start with Ken. This is a nice, dumb top-down action shoot'em game, very good to play when your brain doesn't want to deal with anything complex.

<sigh> I can't stop playing this. Just lost another game on Warlord level, on a pangaea map (I hate those, but for variety I often choose Random and then sometimes end up with pangaea). This time I was outright defeated in 1950 or so. I was focused on the space race (which I might have won), but the Celts were bent on conquest and had me in their sights.

On the plus side, I got to see the paratroop-drop animations for the first time. They're pretty impressive. If only they hadn't been Celtic paratroopers taking over my country.

I had about half a dozen upgraded units in each city, but they couldn't stand against those "stacks of doom."

This is one reason I've always especially liked Master of Orion. At certain stages of the game, a planet with effective shields and sufficient missile bases can hold out against most anything. So if I'm attacked, and my economy is strong enough, there's a chance I can recover and make a comeback.

That works in Civ V too. But not in Civ IV, apparently. (Or if it does, I haven't learned how to do it yet. One factor would be the cultural city defense, which I've so far ignored. Late in the game, walls and castles get replaced with something else, and I'm not sure how it works.)

Last night, SH3 was temporarily unplayable (I tried to mod it and messed it up). So I played Silent Service II and Silent Hunter II instead. Anything for a good sub sim.

But now I've got SH3 running again. Very early this morning (around 1 a.m., just before going to bed), I destroyed a practice convoy and got a score of Excellent in the final tutorial. Now I've got the basic skills to begin a career as a u-boat captain.

This general type of game has been a staple for me for decades, though I seem to only need it in small doses. Way back in my Red Baron (1990) days, there was nothing quite so satisfying as shooting down planes. Now sinking ships does it for me in the same way. I don't mind too much if the game is "arcadey," but if it's a realistic sim, so much the better.

In about 3 hours now - though much of it was wasted due to me not keeping an adequate eye out for restrooms. Not as silly as it was made out to be - rather dark actually. Perhaps I'm just not reaching the goofy, nougat center yet.

Feeling a bit down due to some life issues. Maybe I'll kick this for something a bit more upbeat. zombie

I've been playing Darksiders, for the second time (though this time it is using the "Warmastered" edition). I just finished the third chosen, the Stygian worm, which puts me at a little past half way through the game at under 7 hours. I'm contemplating abandoning the game at this point; it's been a nice trip back to a game that was fun at the time, but there have been a lot of improvements in this genre in the last 7 years. The combat is a little boring, the exploration can be cumbersome, and the environments are often bland.

I finished Mario and Luigi: Dream Team over the weekend. The game dragged a bit after the half way mark, and the last few bosses were ridiculous; after a few game overs and retries, I opted for the option to retry in "easy mode" (which about quadruples your damage dealt and quarters the damage you take from enemies) just so I could finish the game. The game was good, but it will be a long while before I revisit the franchise again.

As always, I've been putting a few hours into Overwatch every week, either solo or with friends. The game is fun but sometimes I wish the game never existed because I'm putting so much time into it and feeling like I'm wasting my time (staying up too late when I should be going to bed, for instance). I finished my placement matches for the ranked mode and am placed in gold, as opposed to platinum the last 2 or 3 times I placed. I don't think I really care one way or another though.

With Mario and Luigi finished, I put Super Mario 3D Land back in my 3DS and played a level or two of the game that unlocks after you beat the game the first time. I enjoyed it and, lacking Super Mario Odyssey at the moment, I think I'll keep playing.

A lot of my time lately has been spent on tabletop gaming; I taught Summoner Wars to some people, went to a boardgame cafe yesterday to play Fury of Dracula, and started up a RPG group playing Fate Core (very messily, but I want to get better at it; I'm having a hard time meshing the freeform, player-centric mechanics of Fate with the theme of a detective agency in which I feel obligated to have a "mystery" that needs to be solved by the players).

6 hours in, I'm digging it.

This NFS you have to purchase separate cars for different purposes: drift, race, drag, etc... And there are 3 main characters ala GTAV.

I found myself driving for hours without a thought of time. It reminds me of my trip where I drove my Camaro down California to Ventura.

Good times.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story -- I am about 2 hours into this head-bopping RPG, the follow up to Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. The setup this time is that, thanks to a poisoned mushroom, Bowser has inhaled Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toadsworth, and most of the denizens of the Mushroom Kingdom. King Koopa is unaware of this, as he has to deal with Fawful trying to take over Koopa Castle. So, you control both the Bros on the bottom screen in a side-scrolling platformer with RPG battles, and can switch to Bowser on the top screen for a isometric adventure style. Things you do on either screen can impact the other -- for instance, when Bowser guzzles water, it floods certain areas inside, allowing the Bros to swim up to reach areas normally out of reach.

I knew approximately what to expect from this game, having spent so much time with Partners in Time earlier in the year, but I was surprised by the Bros side being pure side scrolling instead of isometric. And it seems less episodic (so far) than PiT, which had the Bros jumping from location to location as they searched for Star Shards.

Very much enjoying it so far, and hoping to dig deeply into it this week as I have a few days off for the Thanksgiving holiday.

I'm in the main character's early adulthood. Asbel's been to Lhant and returned to Barona. I'm currently at a cabin on a beach just outside of Barona.

I'm really enjoying this game, but I'm finding it depressing. Asbel's story in Lhant, particularly, just seemed tragic. I felt so bad for the guy. And given a bit of foreshadowing (or something) that just occurred between the three characters in my party just recently, I don't expect things to be looking up soon. Granted, this is a JRPG, so I'm sure our plucky heroes will come to grips with things and then overcome whatever obstacles they face through sheer determination, but at least for now, my last session of this left me surprisingly bummed out. The story seems like a big improvement over Tales of Symphonia, anyways (and it wasn't bad, really), and is a big step up over your average JRPG, at least so far.

They started the one-shot elusive targets over again. You can try one if you haven't already played that specific one. I went and got silent assassin on the current one, and I noticed that the UI and menus have been changed a bit. I see that they have made some new content and missions, which I plan on getting sometime soon.

I also tried "Professional" difficulty a bit, and it feels more like a different game mode almost. If you are seen doing something suspicious on camera, or even if a camera sees you in an off-limits place, someone watching the screens in security will order a guard to go to your location. Also, a lot of the useful things you find just laying around are instead held by NPCs that would realistically be holding them. I could see myself getting back into the game to play through all the levels on Professional. I've beaten Paris, though it was a bit sloppy.

Also, nearly done with Dishonored 2, which is a great game. I really enjoyed the continuation of the story from Dishonored and its DLC, even if the overall story arc was very similar to the original.

Level 21. Maybe 2 or 3 side quests left in Hunter's Edge and then it looks like the final fight. Tempted to to try and get to level 22 but don't think there is enough XP out there without murdering a couple of towns that I fairly well like. Don't really want to do that.

I finished up my New Game+ on Ultra Hard. I mostly just played through the main quest line. I understood some elements of the plot a bit better this time, so that was rewarding. Most of it was not terribly difficult at level 60, but the final battle sequence was genuinely challenging, and I used up all my blaze (I was using the Forgefire a lot at one point and probably should have stuck with basic fire arrows) and nearly all my healing in the process. I can only imagine what it must have been like doing this at level 50 (or below) before The Frozen Wilds came out.

I'll probably play a little more to get the Oseram Arrow Breaker Adept outfit which would've been nice to have at the end. It's the only outfit I have that's still only at Heavy level, and I'm only short one Behemoth Heart to get it. I started up a New Game+ on Story difficulty for larfs, but that got boring rather quickly.

Finally Skyrim is a price I'm willing to pay to buy it again, but this time for PS4.

The gameplay feels smoother. Really enjoying chopping enemies with my sword and blocking with shield.

Graphic-wise, it's not really much of an upgrade from the PS3. Lighting, smoke, water FX are nice, but not really that noticeable unless I stop to look.

Fun to be running around the Elder Scrolls world again. Man they need a new one of these soon!

About 41 hours into Etrian Odyssey V and have yet to reach the second strata. Very close to achieving it though. I am exploring the last floor of the first strata. I have 1 mission and 2 quests to complete before tackling the 2nd strata anyway.

My group consists of 12-13 lvl characters. Yet, I'm finding the 5th floor difficult. I can survive only several encounters, not all of them intact, before I have to head back to town. Therefore, I've been grinding to gain additional skill to add to my party members' repertoire.

While my time with Magic TG Puzzle Quest has slowed down considerably, I've picked up another Planeswalker(red/blue Saheeli Rai), received my very first Masterpiece card (Loyal Retainers- creature...When this creature dies, the last 3 creatures you controlled other than Loyal Retainers that were destroyed are returned to the battlefield), gained a couple more Mythic cards (Hour of Eternity; Crested Sunmare), and a few more rares.

I started playing Caveblazers last night and am quite enjoying it. I saw a couple reviews calling it a mix of Spelunky and Risk of Rain and I would definitely agree with that assessment.

It is taking me a bit of time to get used to the slight float in the jump control and the ranged firing method (right stick aimed but locked to 8 direction firing) but I am sure I will adjust soon. The one thing I will have trouble getting used to is that you just push down to drop through platforms instead of jump+down. I have fallen into a pile of enemies more often than I would like to admit due to it.

Overall, it is pretty fun and I can see myself leaving it installed for the long term and going back to it from time to time as I do other quality rogue-lites.

He's looking real sharp in his 1940's fedora. He's got nerves of steel, an iron will, and several other metal-themed attributes. His fur is water tight and he's always up for a fight.

He's a semi-aquatic egg-laying mammal of action. He's a furry little flat-foot who'll never flinch from a fray. He's got more than just mad skills, he's got a beaver tail and a bill.

Running around this with Seth. It's fun and I suck at managing inventory. Seth has much more practice. Usually I'm fine - I just equip the best stuff and sell/disassemble the rest. But in this case, I have temporary stuff. So it looks like I'll just be throwing all my inventory into a chest next time I play until the temp armor disappears.

As part of the Master Chief Collection.
Played through first two missions and beat the par time!
Beat par time on mission 1 by about 90 seconds. Lots of posting up on a warthog turret as my daughter worked stragglers based off of memorization of drop ship locations. Beat the par time on mission 2 by 6 seconds. Lots of mandatory kill rooms with a bunch of doors leading to hallways. This was tough. Less than .5% MCC owners have this achievement.
Lots of just pure frenetic run and gun. Move towards end of level and be careful with ammo usage because you don't often have time to pick up new weapons. Pretty much just shoot and beatdowns with no weapon switching and minimal reloading.

Was really insanely fun!

Actually the newly-released Operational Art of War IV, released last week, but that game doesn't have an entry yet on the Geek.

I couldn't really afford it, but Matrix Games doesn't really have a method for gifting and I couldn't count on it getting to Steam in the near future so I picked it up. Stepping onto the battlefield of Kasserine (and into Patton's brilliant, sinister trap) was like visiting an old friend.

The few, the proud, the in serious need of fiscal discipline -- the military strategy gamers.

Was feeling down and Dead Rising 2 was just not the goofy romp-fest it was made out to me to be. So I decided to start playing BotW instead. Good fun - though I haven't progressed all that far yet. Thank goodness I can swap that jump and sprint button in the options. The alternative was super awkward.

I was a Kickstarter backer of this and it just released on Monday, so of course I have to play it. I'm not too far in yet, but so far it's actually pretty good. Take one part action brawler, one part match-3 puzzle, and one part cooking competition, combine in a pot, and stir on medium heat.

They're doing their promo tie-in with Super Mario Odyssey. For the next 2 days, you can pick up a Princess Peach status in her wedding dress.

The past 3, that were spaced out in roughly 4 day periods included:

Pauline (in lounge dress) statue

Played 3 sets of Remix 10 levels while I was at it, and the Mushroom House bonus stages that regenerate after 8, 6, and 4 hours.
