Welcome to the 2018 Play by Forum New Player Initiative!

This geeklist will serve as a signup sheet for the players. Hopefully, you ended up here by the following the link in the announcement thread. If not, please have a look!

Announcement Thread

For you crafty folks who snuck in the back door, here's the important stuff!

Until February 4th, the following two rules are in place. Please adhere to these rules when signing up for a game. As soon as it is February 4th where you are, the floodgates will open and new players may signup for a second game. At that time, anyone having prior experience with RPG Geek PbF games will also be unleashed upon the world! Thank you for your cooperation, and have fun!

We have over 25 games listed, so be sure to check out the second page of games!

d10-1Signups are currently open ONLY to players NEW to RPG Geek Play-by-Forum games!

d10-2Each new player can only sign up for a single game!

Each item in this geeklist represents a game being offered. Within the game description, you will find the maximum number of players that the game will take. If you want in a game that is already maxed out, you can always ask to be an alternate.

The Game Master(GM) running each game is also listed at the bottom of the item. We have a great group of GMs at the ready to teach you everything you need to know, and there's a nice variety of games. If you ever wanted to try out an RPG, you've come to the right place!

To signup for a game, simply post a comment to that geeklist item expressing your interest!

Any questions about a particular game should also be asked as a comment to the geeklist item.

General questions, and gripes about waiting for the 4th to get here, can be placed in the announcement thread, which is linked above.

Also, the Banner Makers Guild has volunteered to make custom banners for your character posts!

The Banner Makers Guild supports RPGGeeks and the various play by forum games by providing beautiful banners to represent player characters in the PbF posts.

The links below will ease the process!

RPG: Tales of the Village

Do you have a young Witch or Wizard who wants to play?
Then it's time to bring your offspring to The Geek and to tell a
Tale of the Village!

How many games am I running?
I will run two or three games. Each game will be for one family unit. There should be at least one adult and one child.

Who is this for and what experience level should they be?
This is a New Player Initiative, however the adult who signs up can be of any experience level - old hand or new player.
The child(ren), however, should be the new-to-PbF-on-the-Geek person(s).
I want to help a parent or two out there bring their child into the fold and help them to enjoy a PbF game here and with their offspring where they do not have to do the GMing but instead can enjoy playing the game too.

What type of game will I run?
That is for YOU to decide. Each of the tables will have the child(ren) asked what they want to do/play. I will style each game to the Child's wants, so if they want to have a Troll, there will be a Troll, if they want Dragon's then there be Dragons! If they want snot-nosed-naughty-fairies then there will be a ..well you get the point

From gallery of Bifford

How will it work? Who will be in charge?
The parent will have their own Witch/Warlock who will act as the COMPANION to the Child(s) Witch(es)/Warlock(s). The child will be the one taking point and the game will go where the CHILD wants it to go. Naturally the adult's character (who will still be a young adult witch/warlock) can help and influence - it's about family working together. Depending on the age of the child the parent can either let them write things themselves with supervision and advice or do it for them with the child saying what they want to happen/do.

If the child has their own Geek account then feel free to use it, but I don't expect that to be the case, so they can use the parent's account. There are a few ways we could run it to help show which post is by the adult and which by the child, but that can be discussed in the OOC (Out Of Character) thread.

How long will the game last and what commitment level do I expect?
The length of these games will be pretty short. Though it does depend a bit on a few factors: How often you and your children post; their engagement levels (they are kids after all) and how long you want it to run for. I imagine at the quickest it might be two months but that's a guess.

What age should my child(ren) be for you to run this for them?
The age of the child(ren) does not bother me. If you feel they can roleplay with us then please join!
If they are a proper youngling and you as the adult have to do all of the typing for them, reading the posts and asking them what THEY want to do then so be it. If they are bordering on teenager territory and what to see what this PbF lark is all about then that's cool too. That game might edge into Harry Potter like territory if need be.

Whoever you and yours are, I look forward to helping to bring your family together with RolePlaying and to introduce them to the friendliest forum on the planet! Welcome to The Geek, Younglings!

Newly arrived at the hamlet of Newkeep, you gathered at Newkeep's unofficial tavern, in the middle of the hamlet where the villagers had set up a few small tables and some benches. Gabros Flintwhisker, Newkeep's only dwarf, sold self-brewed ale in the evenings, and as the sun was setting you saw the dwarf moving around the tables serving his bitter brew.

You sensed a fear and uncertainty in the air, and you hear worried voices around the other tables where the villagefolk gathered.

A young villager pointed out, shaking his head despondently, "The only bridge out of here is now broke. What do we do?"

Another older villager added, "Two farmhouses in the past week, Mielikki knows how many cattle, and now the bridge. Worse, we've lost three more good men! I don't know why I stay here. I have a cousin south of here who could put me and my family up. I'm getting too old to keep moving every few years like this."

A man who looked like he belonged to the local militia stoically said, "We're losing one, two, three men a day to this thing. It may be me next! I have a family - who will take care of them if I'm gone?"

Many nodded at the militiaman, their faces equally gloomy. The village carpentress shared her observations, "He's a strong'un, sure, but that bridge was old, too. Not surprising he was able to tear it in half like that. Still, I don't know what Nandru thought he was doing, luring it out on the bridge like that. Probably figured it would collapse and take them both. Nandru always was brave."

Slowly, many of the villagers turned to look at you, having observed the equipment that you carried. Nobody said anything though, but you could see the pleading in their eyes.

This D&D 5e adventure calls for 4 - 6 heroes to aid the hamlet of Newkeep, which is being terrorised by a two-headed giant.

You will not require any materials to play the game. A basic guide is available for free online, and I'll provide links to any other necessary material. Pre-gens will also be provided, for anyone who wants to jump straight into the game.

It’s the 80’s like you always remembered! Or dreamed about, or listened to your parents ramble on about in that past wistful manner that makes you wonder “what were they on?” when you look at the old photos.

Big hair, big ghetto blasters, and cell phones the size of a brick that were hard-wired into your car! Ahhhhh, the eighties.

Well, except for the giant robots, the floating trains, and the occasional dinosaur or extra-planar visitor. But your parents are ‘just too busy’ to deal with that stuff, and your big brother or sister is to involved in the daily rituals of dating and social lives to notice.

So it’s up to you! To solve mysteries, fix problems, and still get your homework done on time!

From gallery of Jethreal

Tales from the Loop
is a roll playing game centered around a group of children who have the free time, and the curiosity, to fix Big Problems, before they become Bigger Catastrophe’s. All while dodging meddlesome adults, unreasonable curfues, and Miss Tanagray’s soul crushing homework assignments.

You’ll design a child character between the ages of 10-15, based on the iconic stereotypes of the Bookworm, the Computer Geek, the Hick, the Jock, the Popular Kid, the Rocker, Troublemaker, or Wierdo. Complete with an iconic item/gadget and a cool hideout that your parents will never find, unless you tell them where it is, but why would you do that?

So sign up, pick your type (only one of each, and only 6 players!), and your favourite 80’s song.

Because it’s summer and something strange is going on with the birds!

From gallery of Jethreal

Principles of Tales of the Loop (how the game works):
1. Your home town is full of strange and fantastic things.
2. Everyday life is dull and unforgiving.
3. Adults are out of reach and out of touch.
4. The land of the Loop is dangerous but Kids will not die.
5. The game is played scene by scene.
6. The world is described collaboratively

Please ask questions and I’ll do my best to answer them for you.

Q.
Do I need a copy of the rules: Nope
Do I need to buy anything to play: Nope
What do I need? The time to post a few times every week, once a day during the week is awesome, however it can be difficult to maintain that pace, so we'll work with you. The faster you post, the faster we'll play. Often we slow down a bit on weekends as people are out and about.
What else do I need? A sense of adventure, curiosity and access to Google for killer '80's meme's!
When will we start? We'll fire up the threads as soon as sign ups are in progress. That said I will be away Feb 8-16, to a much warmer location. I'm hoping to have reasonable internet service, but, you never know. My hope is to get character progression and a light rules overview all done so we can launch in full force on my return.

RPG: Dungeons & Dragons (5th Edition)

Dungeons & Dragons, the world's best-known roleplaying game, is in its fifth edition! It's fairly easy to learn the basics, and it's a blast to play. I'll be running In Volo's Wake, an introductory adventure released in 2017 as a game-store promotion for the book Volo's Guide to Monsters.

From gallery of jasonpanella
Adventure Summary

The town of Phandalin, nestled in the foothills to the east of the Sword Mountains, continues to grow since being rebuilt after the devastation wrought by rampaging orc hordes. It recently survived violent gang activity, drow machinations, and even the attention of a green dragon.

But can it withstand a new threat, bizarre but no less perilous: the fame brought by a visit from none other than loremaster Volothamp Geddarm?

---------------------------------------------
In Volo's Wake is made up of six mini-adventures that, if we were playing face-to-face, would take about an hour each to play. We will also be playing this as part of the Adventurers League, the official organized play program for D&D 5E. The Adventurers League is designed around "seasonal" storylines, and players can take their AL characters anywhere in the world and play in AL games. Players will get to choose between making their own AL character (with help from me, if need!) or choosing from a set of pregenerated characters. No knowledge of the game is necessary, either—you can learn the rules as you play!

A few considerations before diving in:
I tend to run fast-moving games. Because of this, we'll hopefully be moving through these six mini-adventures quickly--probably around two months or less in real life.
I ask everyone at my table to please be kind and courteous to each other!
Please commit to posting regularly. Posting on weekends is optional, but please try to post at least once a day on weekdays. If you want to post more...please do!

I'm looking for six players to join me in this adventure. What sort of trouble is happening around Phandalin? Will the adventurers figure out what lies in Volo's wake, or will they perish in the process?

Lastly, you don't need to purchase anything for this game. You can find the free basic rules for D&D 5e here.

IMAGINE: It's the halcyon days of DISCO, 1979, but you prefer LED ZEPPELIN! -- Dungeons & Dragons is still in its infancy. Just three years ago, only 1000 copies existed of three strange, little brown books -- maybe 100 pages between them -- and players often just made things up as they went along.

And it was FUN!

... you love FUN!.

But what was it actually like? How does one begin playing in true Old School Style? Well, rather than dig up some musty old tomes, we're going to do the next-best-thing: We're going to play Advanced World of Dungeons instead, a free, rules light RPG in the spirit of original D&D, but (loosely)powered by the apocalypse (PbtA). It has only 12 pages of rules. 10 if you remove pictures. You won't use most of 'em.

And what better adventure than the first* adventure? That's right, we're going to play T1: The Village of Hommlet, the famous introductory module that launched a million and more people into this great hobby!

To whit, I seek 4-6 brave souls foolish enough to explore Gary Gygax's infamous Moathouse, savvy enough to suss out evil, and lucky enough to live and tell the tale! You need only the free pdf of Advanced World of Dungeons -- which is not "advanced" at all.

Free PDF available here: https://analogkonsole.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/advanced-w...
BGG Character Sheet Template HERE.

ADVENTURE INTRODUCTION

The small community of Hommlet is an unknown quality. The mud-rutted road is lined with closely-grown hedges of brambles and shrubs, beyond which you spy locals who quietly and cautiously note your arrival. Here and there it cuts through a copse or crosses a rivulet. To either hand, forest and meadow have given way to field and orchard. A small herd of kine graze nearby, and a distant hill is dotted with stone chimneys, thin plumes of blue smoke rising from them. A road angles west into the hill country, and to either side of the road ahead are barns and buildings — Hommlet at last…

But what is here? Who will be encountered? Where should you go? These are your first explorations and encounters, so chance may dictate as much as intelligence. Will outsiders be shunned? Are the reports true — is the whole community engaged in evil practices? Are the folk here bumpkins, easily duped? Does a curse lay upon those who dare to venture into the lands which were once under the ever watchful Elder Elemental Eye? All of these questions will soon be answered.

And above all looms the spectre of the ruined Temple of Elemental Evil, maybe 6 miles from Hommlet on the way to Nulb. You’ve all heard rumours: Riches unfathomable, dangers in the deep, a re-awakened evil that knows no bounds…

… Your adventure begins!

The Gentle Ladies' Tea and Monstrosity Destroying & Quilting Circle Auxiliary
An apocalyptic game served with tea and sugar.
External image

A Taste of What is to Come
Another Wednesday, another meeting of our Quilting Circle Auxiliary. It is most unfortunate the roads are almost impassible due to the rain of smoldering coal meteors. That shall make it most difficult for the rest of the Circle to arrive.

If that wasn't bad enough, the tea set seems to have gained a mind of its own, and has gone into hiding, flying all over the house. Honestly, I think it is possessed. I did tell the maids not to disturb the vervain braid I had placed around it, but it is so hard to find good help when the world is ending around you.

And then there is the slight problem of the transmogrified bear in the conservatory wearing what looks to be the priest's cassock, who refuses to leave. Today tea is to be served in the conservatory!

Who knew there was so much which had to be fixed before teatime?

This is a humorous rules light game of fighting monsters and sorting things out while the world ends around you. Your character is a Lady of Gentleman of good taste and of practical mind.

After all, tea is more important than the End Times!

This game uses d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, and d20, though not in the ways you would expect. The aim is to roll low, not high, and uses multiple dice for each roll.

The rules can be found here. Or, if you want to purchase a copy, here.

This game will take up to 6 players.

A game where you create an encyclopedia for a forgotten civilization.

The Rise and Fall of the Ocher Oracle

This is a relatively quick and fun RPG where you create an encyclopedia.

The theme (fantasy, sci-fi, post apocalyptic) is revealed during play as the entries are created, however, it all focuses around the Rise and Fall of the Ocher Oracle.

Each player adopts the persona of a historian (amateur or otherwise) who has an interest in studying the Ocher Oracle and filling in the historical gaps.

The game is free and the rules can be found here.

The game is played entirely in a geeklist, as opposed to a forum thread, and has no dice rolling at all! Instead, every entry has to mention at least two other entries (called citations in game) since no historian can resist the lure of cross-referencing things!

The geeklist includes biographies of all the historians as well as the encyclopedia entries themselves. It will use the "telephone keypad" variant so will only last 8 rounds (plus the character introductions) - but make no mistake, the game gets harder in the later rounds!

This game will take 3-5 players to build a fictional encyclopedia.

RPG Item: A Star Once Fallen

In a time where like 25% of characters are Human, and like 13% are Fighter comes OPEN LEGEND, a system where you can
BE ANYTHING.*
"How can they do that?" you might ask. It is simple there are no classes or races. So it allows you, players, to make all those crazy characters you always wanted, or show you how deep does this Role Play rabbit hole goes.
You want to be an Elf that is super strong and rages. You can do that.*
You want to be a Half-Orc immortal chronomancer. You can do that.*
You want to be an angel that has a magical flower demon as his compenion and shoots lasers out of his eyes. BOOM you can do that.*
It has wapping 18 attributes**, that are for some reason easy to understand.
The best part it has EXPLODING DICE! Exploding dice are the new best thing in RPGs. When you roll the max number on a dice you roll that dice again and add the new roll to the total. If you roll max, you do it again. And in Open Legend you roll a lot of dice, already.

Did I say it is FREE, cause it is.

I am looking for 5 brave souls that can post 3-5 times a week to defeat Demon Lord Asgaroth in a fantasy world set on the Starfall Island, in an adventure titled A Star Once Fallen

* As long as GM allows it.
** Most will not be used, and I will explain them all.

Take on amazing threats like the Space Pirate Queen, The Living Planet of Doom, and the Quantum Tunnel Master in a daring adventure of action and adventure! But, also, really, make sure that you're emotionally stable and hydrate well, because space is a volatile and terrifying place, and not everyone you meet wants to beam you up to a happy state of mind...

Simple rules. Lots of agency. Constant hilarity.

The air is getting thin, and your ears feel fuzzy and cold...

You're not sure how much longer you will be able to breathe now that the glass is cracked. This was just supposed to be a fun treasure hunt with your friends, but after opening that box in your grandfather's study, you ended up in this ship, somehow floating past Jupiter. You can't explain it, but you have to do... something!

To look through the display prompts on the navicomputer, turn to page 132.
To take one last big breath and float into the next room, turn to page 56.
To pick up the nearby crowbar and smash the big window, turn to page 1,110.

To skip the bad ending where everyone dies, CHEAT.

In this game, everyone contributes to a shared Choose Your Own Adventure novella, where players are able to write what happens next and weave the story towards its conclusion. However, each round of play forces everyone closer to one of many inevitable horrible endings which are the hallmarks of these sorts of stories.

One trick up everyone's sleeve? If you're in a bind, just CHEAT and push past to another choice! Whether exploring the Swamps of Misery, the Temple of Impossible Horror, the Starship of Exoda Primus, or some other fantastical locale, we can join together to write a unique story and fudge the details when things get rough!

Easy to play. Collaborative narrative. Write your own story.

CHEAT YOUR OWN ADVENTURE!

This table will be for five players. You don’t need to purchase anything to play!

HANKERING FOR SKULLDUGGERY?
WANT BIG GAINS AT LOW RISK?

The great and powerful Beholder is currently hiring full-time positions and applicants simply need to show up in Waterdeep to apply.

Benefits include:

- Competitive, modern salary
- Arcane accident insurance
- Progressive work/life balance
- 401(5e) profit sharing

D&D 5e is a game with plenty of nuance, but is exceedingly easy to pick up, learn, and play over and over again. Look, there's a reason it's the "most popular" RPG--it's a ton of fun!

No prior Dungeons and Dragons experience is necessary to play, and we'll be using the Adventurer's League rules (the official Organized Play system). While you're at it, join the RPGG Adventurer's League Guild for even more active play-by-forum games!

You can find the free basic rules for D&D 5e here.

Not Your Typical Roleplaying Game

* Do: Pilgrims of the Flying Temple *

A collaborative story in 3-8 weeks

Do: Pilgrims of the Flying Temple is a fantastic game full of humor and wonder and creativity, that's quite different from what you might expect from an RPG. Let me explain.

If your idea of a roleplaying game is something like D&D, where you play a character with a bunch of stats and hit points and weapons, rolling dice and doing whatever you can imagine, you might be surprised by Do. In Do, we write a story together, one sentence at a time, in a structured fashion. You decide what your character does, everybody together decides what happens to your character. Although I facilitate the game, there is no game master - we all have the same power.

The story we're telling is slapstick fantasy, about a bunch of flying monks in their early teens who may or may not have magical or whimsical powers, who try to compassionately save worlds from ridiculous problems, getting themselves in hilarious trouble in the process.

Why would you want to play Do?

It's a surprising amount of fun! We work together and make a weird and funny and touching story happen.
It's easy to learn, light, well-structured. No experience with any RPG's necessary. I've played Do with my mother and she loved it.
It's quick. Most PbF's take many months or years, if they don't fizzle out. Do can be played in weeks (or an hour or two face to face). We can play multiple adventures in a row if we want, while our characters slowly grow into adulthood, but if you're done after the first, that's perfectly fine.

If you're looking for a more traditional RPG, there are plenty of games on offer. But if you're just dipping your toes in the PbF RPG waters and you'd like to play something short, simple, and creative, I'm confident you'll love Do.

I'll take two tables of up to 3 people (so 6 people max). I expect you to check the game thread at least once every weekday to offer creative input, but occasionally skipping a day is no problem.

A table for 3 to 6 Play by Forum RPG newcomers for:

RPG: Advanced Fighting Fantasy

Beyond the Shadow of a Dream,
an introductory town adventure using Advanced Fighting Fantasy, a simple d6-based RPG.

As young, keen adventurers you expect to make your mark with wild exploits in far-away places. But sometimes the adventure comes to you... With a lull in your quests, researches and other duties you find yourselves gathering most nights at The Seal, a popular inn in the bazaar quarter with a varied clientele. The beer is passable, but along with the other drinkers the main draw is the entertainment that the landlord provides. Over the last two nights, a new storyteller has had even the most hard-bitten among you thrilled and moved.

But this evening the tale is just the beginning...

RULES FOR THE PLAY-BY-POST GAME:

Character generation is simple, but I will also have pre-generated characters to choose from or to use as guides. You will all be warriors or rogues - no magic users in this group.

1. Posting Schedule: players should be prepared to check the gamer every day, and post a minimum of once every 2 days, more if possible. I do understand the difficulties of posting more than once every day or two, and this can be complicated by time zones, so I ask that everyone try to be courteous and patient. I will be online every day and will check and respond to anyone who has performed an action or asked a question.

2. If a player misses the posting deadline, the game will go on and that person will be skipped. If this happens in the middle of combat the PC will make a standard action in line with previous choices. If it happens during a role-playing or decision making point, then that PC is assumed to remain quiet and assent to whatever decision the other PCs have come to.

3. If a player knows they are going to be out of internet range for an extended period, they can arrange for another player to post for their PC if they feel it necessary. This is at the discretion of the two players and the DM will okay it with a word of approval from BOTH players.

4. This should go without saying in this awesome group, but please be respectful towards your fellow players and the DM. This game is meant to be fun and I’d like to keep it that way. I know none of you really need this reminder, but it is better to have it as a general rule than not mention it.

5. Please feel free to ask me anything else that you would like to know.

6. Good luck, hope you enjoy the game!

Ghostbusters meets The Office in InSpectres, a game of paranormal investigators just trying to earn their next pay check (preferably without getting slimed).

Together you’ll...
Make your paranormal investigators. Para-psychologists, ex-military, used car salesmen, ex-strippers, and professional athletes among others can find a place with the InSpectres.

Create your own franchise. Whether a poorly funded startup or a million dollar corporation, you decide.

Reveal what happens next. It’s not just the GM, players get a chance to narrate, revealing paranormal surprises and character details as we go.

Alter events and reveal new information through the reality TV-staple: confessionals. That’s right, your character can break the fourth wall and talk to the camera!

You may like this if you...
Are a fan of all things Ghostbusters, Laundry Files, and/or paranormal mysteries.

Enjoy your supernatural investigations and vampire butt-kicking with a side of humour and quirky characters.

Want a game that is light on rules and heavy on fun.

Fancy having a high degree of narrative control and are excited by the chance to describe what happens next (whether glorious success or epic fail).

Beyond the Wall and Other Adventures

Every home needs its heroes!

"Your small village seems like a haven to you and your friends, but it is not safe. Dangerous faeries lurk in the forest just outside of town, wicked men and ferocious monsters are a constant threat, and sometimes dark forces find their way into your neighbours’ hearts. You and your companions are young and untested, but ready to protect what matters."

In this game, you’ll play one of a group of friends who have known each other since childhood, as they take on the challenge of defending their village and those they love against some rising threat. Your character might be an aspiring warrior, rogue or mage – or some combination of those types. Character creation is an integral part of the game, and we’ll work through this collaboratively using character playbooks that will help define your character’s background, skills and abilities as well as their links and connections with other characters and with the village and its environs.

The rules themselves are fairly simple, and there’s no need for you to own / buy / download anything – I will take everyone through what you need to know. Beyond the Wall "is particularly well-suited for the brand of fantasy literature exemplified by Ursula K. LeGuin’s first three Earthsea novels and Lloyd Alexander’s Chronicles of Prydain. These are stories of low fantasy about young heroes finding their way in dangerous situations." So while some of the mechanics of the rules are very similar to "old school" games like Basic D&D, the setting and feel of the game is somewhat different. There will be adventure and action, but this won’t be a dungeon crawl to kill monsters and steal their treasure.

You’ll be able to choose your character class by selecting a suitable playbook (for example, The Witch’s Prentice is a mage, while The Young Woodsman is a rogue), but character generation is then very random based on rolling dice on a series of tables. All the characters will end up with a good range of abilities, but if you like to "build" a very specific type of character, this might not suit you.

I can take up to four players for the game. Beyond the Wall is designed to be played in a single evening, and I estimate that to translate to a manageable 3-4 months of PBF play, if we can keep up a reasonable posting rate – daily posting is the aim, though we can be flexible on occasions when that’s not possible.

The Uncanny X-Men in
The Maze of The Blue Medusa

O serpent heart hid with a flowering face...
What have you done with the X-Men?!?!

Catastophe! Our heroes need help!

While investigating a suspicious art gallery in the Bronx, the X-Men were captured by the powerful mutant known only as The Blue Medusa*. Storm, Gambit, Shadowcat and the others are currently being held prisoner in Medusa's transdimensional labyrinth with no hope of escape! What's more, the other X-Teams stuck fighting Nimrod in an unstable time-loop. With no time to lose, Professor Xavier must recruit a new group of mutants to rescue his pupils from The Blue Medusa's lair. Do you have what it takes? Will you accept the Professor's invitation? Calling all Children of the Atom! Be the good you want to see in the world! Join the X-Men today!

This is a game for up to six players who will take on the role of teenage mutant super-heroes in order to explore the Maze of The Blue Medusa and rescue the captive X-Men. No prior experience with RPGs or the Marvel Universe is necessary. We are forming a new team with a fate yet written and who will have to make their own way through The Labyrinth.

Character creation will involve coming up with a concept for your hero or rolling randomly to determine the mutations that make you Homo Superior. Once we have our mutants created we will be ready to roll. Pun Intended!

We will be using the Mutant Future rules with some alterations. These rules are free and you should probably download a copy. You do not need to read the book cover to cover; it will serve as a reference for the most part.

You will need to post once a day during the work week, with weekends and holidays excepted. This helps keep the momentum of the game.

The Maze of the Blue Medusa is a recently published adventure/setting. It has plenty of action and interaction with strange persons from realms unknown. I will be modifying the adventure to fit our theme and universe, but you can otherwise expect it to be run as written. I am aiming for a Claremont era X-Book (not too brooding, PG-13) but am very happy to entertain any character ideas. Traditionally, the X-Men have been an international team, so consider picking a nationality you are interested in learning about to help inject some color into the game.

Calling all heroes!

...of course, Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters will be providing these brave kids with some spiffy new uniforms: Microbadge: X-Men fan

Travel to Dunnsmouth!
It probably won't kill you
External image

Dunnsmouth is a sleepy village in the middle of nowhere. It's so far out of the way Church bureaucracy has outsourced the collection of tithes. For a measly 500 silver pieces you and your companions have purchased the deed to the village's debt, currently book value 12,000 silver pieces (excluding collection costs). Not only do you stand to make a killing there are rumours of a powerful artifact able to stop time somewhere in the region. This venture could set you up for life and give you the time to make your dreams come true.

Or it could end in disaster.

This adventure will be run using the D&D 5th ed rules. Most of the rules can be found for free here. I will provide pregenerated 2nd level characters.
This adventure has a strong horror vibe and I have a sense of humour. The tone will probably resemble some terrible 80s movie. Despite this there is the possibility everyone will die horribly.

RPG Item: Protocol Game Series 01: Home

Publisher Blurb wrote:
Home is a story roleplaying game about soldiers in a fantasy world returning home from a long and costly war. Being on the losing side of the war, the characters must overcome adversity, national tension, and a lack of resources as they navigate the roads and wilderness. With only a few coins in their pockets, their long trek home begins.

The Protocol game series uses vignettes, interrogations, interludes, and ensembles to tell a story. Each story explores disparate characters dealing with adversity and isolation in a dramatic fashion.

Home is a zero-prep game for 3 or more players. The game length is exponentially long, so games with more players take more time to complete. Home requires a deck of poker cards as well as tokens to track drama points.
Three players are invited to join this journey home. Playing without a GM, and without dice (but with a virtual deck of cards) the Protocol Game Series engine allows "stripping away all pretense and getting to the heart of storytelling" (!). This will not be a tactical exercise of risk management. Au contraire: Join if you would like to develop a collaborative exploration through vignettes, interrogations, interludes, and ensemble scenes, and find out what really happened on the journey HOME.

Eons before Valkana heard her own name she bore witness to beings not of this realm. These ancients planted the seeds of life on Valkana. And as that life grew and civilization formed the thirst for supremacy blossomed into war.

Gifted with an unmatched intellect, the Saurian Empire built mighty war machines and claimed dominion on Valkana until the heavens them selves fell upon them. Valkana was plunged into darkness and a thousand years at war. In this crucible great hero were forged and together they extinguished the flames of battle.

A new civilization was built on the ruins of the old; a peaceful world of magic and science. But the forces of chaos are patient and not easily contained. Left to fester ancient evils threaten to emerge and unleash mayhem upon the world and so to face them new hero must arise from the ashes of Valkana.

Thus describes the fantasy sci-fi future world Titansgrave, in which our adventure takes place. We will be playing a scenario called The Hermit's Road, a short adventure to give you a taste of the game that includes roleplaying and combat encounters.

This Fantasy AGE adventure can support 3-5 adventurers. There is a free Dragon AGE basic ruleset available for download from Green Ronin here. There are only a few differences between Dragon AGE and Fantasy AGE, which I will explain once we get started. Pre-generated characters will be provided to get the game up and running quickly and easily. All rules will be taught!

Welcome to the Monster of the Week!

Most people don’t believe in monsters, but you know the truth. They’re real, and it’s your task to bring them down. This revised edition of Monster of the Week brings that adventure to life.

Monster of the Week is a standalone action-horror RPG for 3 people. Hunt high school beasties a la Buffy the Vampire Slayer, travel the country to bring down unnatural creatures like the Winchester brothers of Supernatural, or head up the government investigation like Mulder and Scully.

Grab the fireplace poker and get your spell book. That monster’s going down!

An odd call rings throughout the UHF and the sub radio nets.

"Help, if you can hear this, come to the old Stapleton Circus on Rte 6. It isn't what it looks li...... Hurry!"

I am looking for 3 (Three) players to take on the role of Heroes. You aren't just a Big Game Hunter, you are THE big game hunter. Buffy has nuthin' on you. Come take the risk, come for the reward, well, maybe there is a reward, but there are monsters.

You don't have to purchase a book, the character playbooks are free online, I will send out links and I will teach the game. Can you roll two six sided die and get above 10? Cool, you understand the game. If you don't know how to use the dice roller, I will teach you that too, just don't let the dice roller know I am helping. It hates me.

RPG: Cheat Your Own Adventure

Cheat Your Own Adventure

Remember those Choose your own adventure books you used to play through? Wish you had ever tried those? This is your chance to write one.
Collaboratively we write a short choose your own adventure story, complete with strange plot twists, (horrible?) deaths and of course the option to cheat yourself back into the game if something goes wrong.

I'll take up to 5 players, there is no need to know anything about the game before hand and the game material is freely available here.

I will explain about the (very minor) dice rolls and crosslinks we need for the game, so it's very beginner friendly.

And our setting is:

mebririth previously rolled 2d6 = (4 + 1) = 5
mebririth previously rolled 2d6 = (5 + 4) = 9
