Had to post this here:

This weekend is the Classic Tetris (NES) World Championships. I know what you're thinking: how can classic tetris be played competitively, and why would that be interesting to watch?

Well, I thought that too around this time last year, and now CTWC is something I look forward to. The fact that the "special guest" on the mic is James Chen doesn't hurt. I would watch this over OWL or Fortnite any day.

Looks like there are some serious contenders there to challenge 7-time champ Jonas Neubauer.

Edit: Link for the last 7 matches of the event (four matches to go from 8 players to 4, two matches to reach the finals, and then the grand final):

Completed 12 out of 21 days in New Game+, playing on the Ultimate difficulty. 246 pins mastered, with another 17 in the pipeline. I've turned Shiki into a force to be reckoned with, but may have to swap in Beat for a little while since he'll be mandatory for some fights in week 3 Ultimate.

I've mastered a Shiro pin, which I believe is the biggest single investment in the game, so that's nice.

I have a feeling that Ultimate difficulty is going to throw up a roadblock sooner or later. Having a lot of fun in the meantime.

Yeah, about seven weeks in, and I'm still playing AoW3 almost exclusively. I even tried to get into a game of Master of Orion (my longtime favorite) this morning and couldn't stick with it; I had to quit and go back to AoW3.

I think I'm still discovering what it is, though. I've been just playing around, letting game concepts slowly sink in. I've won a number of small-map games (and lost a couple), but I've yet to complete a medium-map game.

I'm working on it, though. Got one in progress, as a dwarven theocrat. One of my neighbors just declared war, and two others joined my side. We'll see how that goes.

Still just playing a lot of minecraft in my free time...

I recently built a Blaze farm at a fortress in the Nether:
From gallery of Grimwold

And helped out with a Wither Skeleton spawning room that's 100 blocks long:

I previously built a pretty efficient Slime farm on 5 levels, with the rest dug out up to the ocean. It uses Iron Golems to entice the slimes onto Magma blocks to die... I now have a double chest full of slime BLOCKS.

I also helped Solamar kill The Wither that he spawned in the caves.

All good fun.

Trying to get some more games played, so I can begin getting a good clean Steam collection!

Took them more or less alphabetically starting with installed, untried games - A Summer Promise Forever was one of the first games, so I gave this a try.

There seems to be some issues with the Steam overview unfortunately, but luckily I had the game saved just before opening the overview (overlay?), so I could just kill the running task... Now I just have to start up the game and continue. I am looking forward to see what will happen.

I have installed the official H-patch (nude patch), but have not reached any H-content in the short time I have played.

Unfortunately the game also does not seem to want to save screenshots in "show CG mode"...

-----

Completed the game with the "Good Yinyin ending", which also should have unlocked the H-scene, but seems like the patch isn't working. However the game is fine; the story is a bit see-through; it's quite obvious who the persons are, but I have to admit that after playing the Good Yinyin ending, I also tried the bad one and... wauw! Just wauw! I was actually a bit shocked how the story turned out! This is one crazy place and story!

Next year I might go back in the story to see how the Good ending with the other girls is - and also the "normal ending"... I don't really feel like doing it now; but would prefer doing it with all the reading and not just skipping for the achievements...

This is a productive week in Opera Omnia. I went from having a few level 50s to half of my now 71 allies at max level. The 70th character is Seifer, who I recruited at the end of chapter 10, and 71 is Rydia, whose event started on Thursday.

Started tending to the mini-clubs. Hired a bunch of hostesses to get the club off the ground. I wish there were more Platinum hostesses, they're fun to doll up.

Majima is making some good money. Think he has 48M yen right now. At 50M, I should be able to level my Thug ability and then get more training.

I caught a sea turtle fishing. I need two more ingredients to help the gal at the sushi restaurant.

This should definitely tide me over, until Friday.

I finished God of War 3 HD Remaster this weekend. It was a fun romp, but had some frustrating sections. Namely there is one section in the labyrinth that I thought was pretty poorly designed -- I had to try it 4 or 5 times because it's not clear what you're meant to do , but you need to do it on a strict timer. What that means is that you need to learn it by trial and error, dying each time you need to figure out the next step.

I took Thursday off, for no particular reason -- just to have a day off in the middle of the week. It was nice, it felt like a free Saturday! I spent many hours that day playing Divinity Original Sin 2 and and am now at the end of act 1, cleaning up some quests before I move to act 2. I'm finally at a point where my characters have half-way decent equipment.

I have made some progress in Monster Hunter World -- namely, I'm now in "High Rank", where I have access to a whole new suite of armor options with two or more skills on them. On the one hand, it's nice to feel like I can actually commit to some end-game armor, but on the other hand it feels like all my previous grinding and equipment is a bit of a waste now, and I'm not sure where to start on what armor to craft next.

After beating God of War 3, I had some options on what game to start next (MHW feels like empty calories at times, and I find I need to be in the mood for DOS2 before I play it). I tried Assassin's Creed Origins, but it doesn't run very well on my GTX 960, often getting 20-30FPS, even on a lower resolution. I was considering getting back into The Witcher 3, but when looking at my list of Steam games, I realized that I never gave Night in the Woods much of a chance (rather, my girlfriend started playing and abandoned it), and since it's realtively short and a nice change of pace from the high-fidelity stuff I've been playing, I'm giving it a playthrough. It's really capturing the feel of a dying rust-belt town quite well.

At a chase sequence and I finally made some progress except I kept getting stuck on the ladders and died. Having to keep watching the cutscene over and over sure is annoying when I need to get going right away.

Making a lot of progress in Master Mode. I'm up to ten hearts and generally feel comfortable fighting things now, particularly if I can thin the herd with dirty tricks or take them on one at a time. I haven't gone after anything boss-level yet, unless you count the occasional guardian (playing this mode has made me git gud at deflecting the eye beam back at them). Current favorite tactic is to freeze the enemy with one hit from the frost spear, then take out a claymore or other high-damage two-handed weapon that I can swing in a circle to get multiple hits in a row.

My current goal is to get up to 13 hearts and go for the master sword. Then I'll probably make a run on Hyrule Castle for loot and then decide if I'm ready to start working on divine beasts.

So I've been playing this casually, recently, for... some... reason. Figured I'd try one of the missions I was stuck on.

Holy crap, for the first time in five months (four and a bit since I abandoned this), I've made progress!

Now that's 41 missions and 41 packages down! Don't expect me to complete this anytime this decade.

Also currently sitting on a 2 and a half million bounty in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning... whistle

Hand of Fate has this addictive just-one-more-try quality. I already spent more time with this than planned. After 18 hours, I just reached the final level. Finally, I'm getting familiar with the battle system and use my moves purposeful. It took a long time before I started to deploy artefacts or special weapon skills at all. By now, I have customized the deck to my liking. I'm keeping all cards with unlocks for now even if they aren't helpful. I aim for unlocking new cards as much as progressing towards the end of the game. Actually, I'm not looking forward to the final battle after reading about the massive difficulty spike which it is.

Comfort food for me. Just left the Citadel for the first time, exploring the Normandy. I don't know what it is, but this doesn't seem to run as well as ME2 on my PS3 and new TV. I think the new TV draws more demands from the PS3, I also noticed this with Skyrim that it ran pretty badly. But ME2 was fine. ME3 doesn't look great either. I can't remember if there's a facial reconstruction because I didn't get her face quite right. Hope so.

Renegade, femshep , infiltrator. Currently using an Indra sniper (because low weight) and the Cerberus assault rifle.

I am not good at this game. Regardless of my intentions to be diplomatic or try to stealthily sneak through a mission, everything I do seems to result in me starting a combat -- at which my character and I are both very bad. Tried to resolve the former by dropping a few points in melee and brawl (guns seem lame for a vampire), but it's still taking me a couple tries for most bosses, and I've been killed in random levels too.

After completing Dungeons 2, I installed and dabbled in Dungeons 3 a bit to see how it is. It's largely like Dungeons 2, but they did away with the separate horde/demon/undead factions and added more rooms and the ability to field all three kinds of minions at once. And now you have a dark Elf lieutenant that can be upgraded and lead your minions into battle. In many ways, this game is more like Dungeon Keeper than the previous game was. Your snotlings now have to convert floor tiles to make rooms, you need to build a lair where each of your horde minions has their own bed (or crypt for your undead, or a summoning nexus for your demons), and horde and demon minions eat food that you raise in subterranean ranches, similar to the chicken farms from Dungeon Keeper. Also, you unlock new rooms and spells through research in an archives/library, and the upgrade tree is much easier to use/navigate than in Dungeons 2 (where each room had its own upgrades that you accessed by clicking the specific room). In this game, the evil dungeon lord (you) is on the continent from the last game, and you can command your minions across the sea via the dungeon heart, so that part also seems more like Dungeon Keeper.

The mouse cursor is no longer your evil floating hand, but the evil floating hand is still there, just hovering around and interacting wherever you click. It's a bit odd, but it's much easier to see where your clicking or dropping things, so that's nice.

Dungeons 3 also has a "sandbox" skirmish map where the forces of good don't constantly attack you, similar to "My pet dungeon" mode in the DK games, which is nice.

Seth and I apparently thought of the same game at the same time.

This was really the first time I went beyond the tutorial. The first time I played it, the initial conversation with Smiling Jack ended and the door to the next area didn't open. Later I found out that either saving at a certain point and reloading or just skipping the tutorial entirely would allow you to progress, but whenever I would get the urge to try the game again, I would forget that, get stuck in the alley, and quit again.

But yesterday I decided I didn't need to learn anything and just told Jack to leave me alone, then progressed to the first area of the game, Santa Monica. I'm playing a Toreador, and I'm making sure everyone likes me, even if I don't like any of them.

Every save is going into a new slot. I know this game is buggy as hell, and I don't want to get stuck again because of it.

I'm still hooked on EL. In my personal quest to play every faction and win by all the different victory conditions I am now playing the Allayi. Flying shape shifters... kind of a cross between a Bat and a Panda bear??? They have some unique abilities in how they expand their cities. They have the best flying scouts in the game that I have seen so far and they can sense all the magical Pearls that you harvest on the map if you have explored those areas already. I have taken out my nearest neighbor, the Ardent Mages - who were quite weak and easy to conquer. The Drakens are weak too, but I have left them alone. The Cultists have dominated the seas and destroyed every naval force that I have put together, but now I am starting to get some decent ships together. I don't know which victory I will focus on. I am still in a position where I can choose which one I want...

Still in Novigrad. I dealt with Junior on Sunday, and I dragged Triss to Menge yesterday. That whole bit was pretty dark. Junior didn't walk away from our exchange, and while I tell myself that it was to prevent the harm he would do in the future, I think there was a fair amount of retributive justice there, too. Sure, it's all a fictional, contrived set of situations, but at times this game is a sustained assault on my rosy view of humanity. ...I'm curious about the choice I'm given in the matter, though. The guy is a monster in human form who will do nothing but cause others misery in the worst of ways. I can't imagine not killing him, given that there's no way to keep him from doing what he does, but yet the game gives me the choice. is it to further a sense of player agency? To make me feel responsible for Geralt's actions? I'm not sure. It gave me pause, though, because when given the choice I was forced to think, "Well, why wouldn't I?" - and then realized, here was this guy, helpless, fully in my power, but I still thought that the right thing was to end his life in cold blood. Just a game, so nothing's at stake, but still.

Also, I'm almost done Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius. I'm on either the final or second-last fight, I think. I have a huge amount of command points (20,000+, when the most expensive thing a person can do costs 2,500 and there's no reason to do that more than once or twice a battle), so I'm trying to burn through them a bit. My guys are all pretty upgraded. I built the Seraphim so that it can fire twice, and it's able to drop two enemy ryders a turn or do a world of damage to enemy capital ships. Liberty can heal twice a turn, or disable once and flak-down someone else, which is a big help. I've pretty much given up on boosting my support ryders for anything but energy, since they don't shoot and (given the AI's priorities) don't get shot since they don't ever do damage. The VN element of the game kind of stabilized. It's not great, but I enjoy the plot well enough. On the whole, it's a great tactical game.

Edit: Forgot to mention Phantasy Star. Playing it requires competing for resources with family members (the primary TV), so I don't get to play it as often as I'd like. Anyways, I got the Laconian Sword for Alis last night, which I think is the best weapon in the game for her. It's nice to see such an old game (and JRPG to boot) with a kick-bottom female protagonist. Odin is using the Laser Gun. I pretty much just use Noah for healing - his spells don't seem worth it. Aside from the gated area in the NW corner of Palma, I think I've mostly covered Palma and Motavia. So I think Dezoris is the next stop.
