I like to comment on plays of the various board and card games I play. It's fun to track scores over time, see who I've been playing with, and be able to trash talk about the last time so-and-so won a given game... With video games, the whole commenting on individual plays doesn't seem as useful, so... this list exists.

I'll probably end up posting high scores or any "achievements" I've gotten as well. Note though: what may be an "achievement" for me, could be a piece of cake for most...

I'd also seen a few geeklists others had created that acted as a curated list of their favorite games. I've found those nice to read and it's lead to trying out some fun games. Thought I'd join in.

Currently playing on:
PHONE: Google Pixel XL (yup, first gen)
TABLET: Amazon Fire HD 10" (with Google Play store installed)

Feel free to comment.

This had been on my wishlist since it's initial Android release... finally caved and bought it awhile ago: SO glad I did, this is a pretty awesome RPG deckbuilder.

There are four characters, each having 6 "slots" available that represent either different card combinations that can be added to your deck, or abilities you get per battle: fighting styles, weapons, off-hand items, armor, etc. As you defeat new areas you permanently unlock new "items" for these slots for that character. You can replace whatever item is currently in that slot with the new item if wanted. While some items are straight upgrades of existing items, several I've found completely change the way a character is played.

Even though I've beat one adventure with the Fighter, I've still continued playing that adventure with the Fighter to unlock more of their options.

When you start a new game you can mix and match which items/styles of those you've unlocked you want to make up your initial deck. There's lots of strategy involved in what combinations to use.

Also, the fights themselves are extremely tactical and very evocative. The rogue build I'm playing now specializes in hiding in the shadows and stunning enemies with attacks that do more damage to enemies that are "defenseless" (either stunned or "unaware")... The Paladin build I've been playing has TONS of defensive cards: stunning shield bashes alongside lots of cards with divine favor that allows you to completely ignore attacks. The deck only has a few offense cards and you usually need a specific combination in hand to deal the most damage.

TL;DR: RPG deckbuilder that has a really great mix of tactics and strategy with unlockables that you need to earn and that give a good reason for wanting to go to certain areas.

Has a super strong "one more game" feel since games are so quick. Really good tutorial. No true solo or campaign mode, just playing against an AI (3 difficulty levels) and a "Challenge Mode", which I'm not sure what that's about (online leaderboards? special achievements?). You need to log into either Play Games or Facebook for that one to work.

There's a pretty big achievement system that springs up after every game (collect X tuxedo cats, feed Cow 14 food in challenge mode, etc.) that should keep me playing for awhile (gotta collect all them cats!). Super important for me, your achievement progress syncs between devices you've logged into (at least android devices).

All this plus top notch production: really great game!

Really good deck-builder with an interesting twist: you aren't in complete control of where your little dude on the screen goes... You have to entice them to go certain ways by placing treasure on the map of the dungeon, which you also have limited control over.

Combat is really the fun deck-building part. Unlockable character classes give your base deck of cards while equipment/treasure gives more cards and stat upgrades (or penalties). Equipment goes in one of four areas: head, body, main weapon, off-hand. You'll have tough choices around which treasure to take or switch out.

There is a high level of RNG though in how the dungeon gets made and then what monsters you face and when. There will be times when facing a much higher level monster will be unavoidable and lead to near certain death... And if you get killed, you can't use the same class again as you're forced to take a different "guild member" until another of that class is "hired" back into your guild (happens after one dungeon run)... But the game is extremely easy get into so it's not a big deal. Pick a few classes you like to play and you should be good.

One thing that's slightly annoying: you can't replay an area once you've defeated it. There were a couple that were pretty fun... Not sure why you couldn't re-play them for no reward...

Also has a neat "pay once and all future content is free... but the base price to get in will go up for those that haven't bought it yet". So far a LOT of content has been added: by my count, two expansions, each almost as big as the original game (in terms of areas to explore).

Soooo much character in this puzzle / hidden object game. This is just an excellent time waster. And I can play it with my youngest (5 y.o.)!

Yeah, it's just a "find some little doohickey in this giant picture" type of game, but the clues are really clever and the "painting" is extremely detailed with a TON of stuff going on. Also plays as a sand box of sorts as so many details you can interact with in hilarious ways. Also, the art style for this type of game is perfect (IMO).

Other bonuses: progress syncs between the phone and tablet really well, and you can play around in levels even after finishing them. My daughter loves playing around in a few of the levels...

Some of the things you need to find are pretty difficult/frustrating, but then you beat yourself up when you finally find it and realize what the clue was telling you.

Extremely simple roguelike deck-builder with a swipe right or left mechanic... Good production values make this shine as it's extremely easy to pick up and play a few encounters and then put it down to continue later. The unlockable stuff is almost too easy to unlock...

The developer is CONSTANTLY adding significant content to the game. First it was a whole new character, then a more difficult mode (want to go to a party?), now it's a daily challenge mode... CRAZY.

Highly, highly suggested.

I thought Mischief was the easiest to play when I started but my first win was with a pretty screwed up deck using Rose. I've since beat the game with both Mischief and Bruno as well. Still haven't beat the game going to the party.

I've been able to play a bunch of games, beating the Dragon's Cave with the Warrior, Rogue, and Paladin... and losing horribly with the Mage. I'm thinking it's going to take a long time to unlock all the powers for each hero using the hero progression option (and that's a good thing). While the tutorial left me wanting a bit more explained, it was pretty easy to figure stuff out after a few games... This is a really fun game and it runs awesome. Looking forward to expansions.

My one issue keeping me from playing this more is that it can be a bit of a brain burner at times. Maybe I just need to play more...

If this opens up to be usable on phones, I'd add cloud saving to my wishlist of features... Being able to keep hero progression across multiple devices would be really nice.

UPDATE 5/31/2019: Been playing a lot more since the release to phones, going to try to beat each dungeon with each character. I'll fill in stars with victories:

Archer/Mage/Paladin/Rogue/Warrior
Dragon's Cave (1 star)
Hydra's Reef (2 star)
Yeti's Cavern (2 star)
Lich's Tomb (3 star)
Minotaur's Maze (3 star)

Beat normal difficulty with the free Warrior class while on vacation in Ethiopia and loved it: helped battle my jet lag at night.

Great production values, fun game, deceptively strategic.

No ads either.

Then I bought the full game and all available expansions... I've come to really enjoy the ease of play. Hard to pull myself away from this one as I always want to play just one more mob... but then what's available in the shop after? and we need to test that new purchase, right? Okay ONE more... (repeat ad infinitum)

Really like this. Not a huge fan of the space/sci-fi theme, but the game is so fun that I don't really care. Plays great, nice UI, quick to start up... Excellent. I'm hooked on this and have the full version and a few expansions. I can see myself slowly picking up expansions for the foreseeable future...

I think what makes this one so fun, and perfect for mobile(ish) formats is the limited decision space each turn that is still highly strategic. Yields a pretty damn fun game that's easy to get into.

I've heard there's a league here on the geek... need to figure out how that works.

Free with no IAP and no ads. This REALLY needs a donate button or version of the app... I played this a LONG time ago, beat the campaign (and had fun doing so), and then uninstalled as there wasn't really anything else to do with it. I recently saw a comment on reddit about how much has been added throughout the last few years and thought I'd give it a try. Holy crap a lot was added.

So far I've only been playing through the campaign again as I see that a TON of new levels were added. This is a deckbuilder in the same vein as Ascension and Star Realms having two types of currency: some form of "money" and some form of "power". Here there are three rows of four cards (12 total) in the "marketplace", with each row able to be shuffled for some money. Also, there are five different stacks of monsters that need to be defeated to win the scenario. The cards available in the market are usually themed (ninja's, gladiators, etc.) and what combination of monster stacks you're up against make up each level/scenario.

It's a fun game with some tactics in which cards to buy/defeat and when. The interface is great and it's SUPER easy to get in and out of a game quick. That feeling of "just one more game" is pretty strong with this one. So far the difficulty hasn't been very high, but then I'm only on the second campaign and haven't tried Battle or Crawl mode yet... Really glad to have given this another go, have a felling it will be on my phone for awhile.

Free. Completely. No ads or IAP. And good.

Plays in portrait + quick start-up + a little bit of brain burn that still plays quick = good mobile phone gaming.

Image should be current highscore.
