I completed the base game and the Zombie Island DLC, and now I'm on my way through the General Knoxx DLC. My Siren is up to level 40, but the shotgun that got me through the Destroyer at level 34 is still serving me well.

Quite far along in New Game+, here known as "EX Round." I've reached the Day 5 point-of-no-return for the main storyline, and have been climbing my way to the top of the Chrysler Building, the optional postgame dungeon with 77 floors. More about that here. I just cleared Floor 50. Was worried about the boss, which can duplicate itself if the fight drags on, but Aya came locked and loaded.

I did spend a couple of hours farming "junk," which is the only way to unlock the ultimate weapon (player chooses which type). So having the P90 helps quite a bit. Also reminds me of GoldenEye 007 - like this one very specific machinegun was somehow floating around in pop-culture in the late 90s.

Not too worried about the Floor 60 boss. A little nervous about the final two bosses prior to the True Ending. It takes just under an hour to reach them, and you don't get to save.

I've really enjoyed Parasite Eve. Some interesting ideas to be found under the hood, though many of them obviously implemented in a rush.

Finished the first big boss. I have reached area 2.

I'm impressed that this game has managed to keep some of it's collectibles hidden from me. That is no small feat. I suspect that the camera being relatively static (I can move it but not wherever I want) has a lot to do with this. The developers are able to hide parts of the map in places that would be easily found if I could swing the camera freely.

I still love the personality and style of this game.

I unlocked oil processing and scanned for the nearest oil deposit...which turned out to be over 2 km away. wow So I set out on foot and traversed some new terrain that I hadn't seen before (I found a great place to go for harvesting mycelia!), and after killing a whole bunch of hostile aliens (and running from some others) I finally reached a deposit with two nodes for oil wells on the shore of a large lake. There's another one nearby but I didn't figure out how to get to it. On the way back I dropped some beacons and managed to work out a path that could be traversed by a truck, apart from a couple of enormous boulders blocking the cliffside at one point, but I was able to build around those with foundations. The boulders are of the sort that are obviously cracked and destructible in a video-game sort of way, and I've seen similar walls and boulders in other places, but as of yet I still haven't figured out a way to actually destroy them.

With some work I got the oil wells and truck depots and refineries set up, and now I have fuel, plastic, circuit boards and computers in production! I should get some rubber going also, but so far it hasn't been high priority. Soon I'll be able to start getting oil-powered generators set up. That should help shift some of the power burden off of coal, which will be welcome since my coal mine is already at full production, and about 75% of that is going to power generation. I'd like to be able to use more of that for steel production instead.

Work was crazy all week, and I had to put in some hours this weekend as well, so that meant very little time for playing any games. I'm still around 2 hours into this game, and I'm hoping to get some time to sit down with it for a longer session this week. It has been fun so far, and the world is very interesting. It also looks great on my PS4 Pro.

When I did have a few minutes of downtime this week, I played a bit of Black Ops 4 with the girlfriend as well as a couple Road to the Show games in MLB: The Show 19. I also got in about 30 minutes of Zuma Deluxe randomly.

Here's to hoping there are more video games this week!

I had a work trip last week, so I fired up Ascension on my old ipad and bought the last 2 expansions, Gift of the Elements being one of them.

I've been playing it every day for the last few days now, learning more and more about the set. I like how much control this set gives you over your deck, but at the same time there's not a lot of powerful things to do either. I've been playing with only this set active for the last several games, so I'll need to try adding in some other ones soon to see if I can find a good combination.

I promised myself to finish up Ni No Kuni 2 this weekend, and did exactly that this morning! Now I'm in the wonderful and awful position of deciding what my "main" game will be next. Here are some options:

God of War
get back into Divinity Original Sin 2
Mass Effect 3
Shadow Tactics
Dishonored (2nd play)
Shadow of Mordor (2nd play)
Assassin's Creed Odyssey

I'll probably go with God of War and try to make a big dent in it during the long weekend coming up. Alternatively, I could just play some non-finishable games like Smash Brothers, Offworld Trading Company, Into the Breach, etc.

I'm also going to continue grooving in Wargroove -- I think I have about another 3 hours before I'm done the campaign.

The game moves along. Even though it moves slowly, I still find myself engaged. I think the map setups, though smaller, make the game a bit more tense than MBQ. Alignment is harder to control, but I think I’ve got the hang of it. I’ve made three one-person mid-alignment squads that will never, ever fight in order to ensure I can be everyone’s friend. Everything else can be taken care of by my fighting squads, which have pretty polarized alignments.

My hero is lvl 75; warlord lvl 20. However, I've unlocked 4 levels of its class talent tree. I've also unlocked a mythic rare weapon for the Warlord which allows me to hit much harder against opponents who are much stronger than me.

I've completed 8 kingdoms' quests and challenges on warlord II lvl difficulty and am starting on my ninth. I still have 25 more kingdoms to put under my foot. I realized that there were 2 type of PvP (ranked and casual). I've been moving up in ranks but don't really understand how it works. There is another. There is also, Arena, where you challenge others but draft your army instead of using your own.

I tried the Raid Boss event and I had to go through 4 stages of mooks before confronting the big boss. There are 10 portals where your guild must work together to close. I've been playing this on my own unfortunately and was only able to whittle him down to 129 hp (out of 1k) before running out of sigils to finish him off and close the 1st portal. I tried to rally my fellow members but to no avail. No one else headed my call

I recruited a person to my guild only to see him back out after receiving all the treasures my guild gathered. Left me with a bitter taste. I had let him know beforehand, the requirements to maintain membership but some hours later (not even a day), he quit and I found out he joined another guild that did not have any weekly gold requirements.

The chat area is inundated with what seems to be immature players. My understanding was that many GoW players on the Switch were in their 30's. It does not seem so when going into the chat area.

I have yet to get a legendary or mythic rare troop.

Was in the mood for a slightly different take on character action, so, against my better judgement, I got back into this mess.

I still can't say it's a good game -- it's an absolute mess by any standards -- but there's a good game hiding within in it. I'm managing to enjoy my time with it this time, but only with tons and tons of caveats:

1. The first playthrough of a new file is just a tutorial. Take every continue the game gives you, give no fucks about using items, and accept your stone awards. Yes, this is going to be about as engaging as a 12-hour tutorial sounds, but this game's awkward level design, peppered with atrocious QTEs, just isn't any fun to play without heavy foreknowledge. Get that foreknowledge quickly.

2. The "real" game, which you play on the New Game + of the same files (so, with all of your weapons and upgrades carrying over), is going for Platinum or Pure Platinum runs of chapters with no continues or items.

3. This game is plagued with ridiculous amounts of filler -- it's really a five hour game trying to masquerade as a ten hour game. Of the game's 18 chapters, by my count a full seven of them -- 4, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, and Epilogue (which is a full chapter, and the final 18th chapter) -- are simply not worth playing. In the case of 4, 7, 9, and 13 it's because they're awful boss fights whose mechanics have nothing to do with the rest of the game; in the case of 8, 14, and Epilogue, it's because the mission largely consists of awful minigames. On a New Game + playthrough, use the Chapter Select to skip these where possible; where not possible (you're playing on a new difficulty level for the first time), just item-spam through them and don't worry about your awful rating.

4. On the "real game" playthrough, play with a guide open on a handy device to see where the hidden fights on each chapter are. The way they hid those is absolutely asinine; "double back to an area you passed several minutes ago for absolutely no reason, and now there's a whole hidden verse there that we expect you to play, and will count against your score if you don't"... why is this a feature? It's not terribly onerous once you know where they are, but it's not worth figuring out through your own experimentation.

5. Before you buy the last new move from the shop, make sure to save in a separate slot. While the game helpfully has a practice screen that can be accessed by pressing "select" on any loading screen, the only way to get a practice screen with a dummy you can combo on is through the "try skill" option at the shop, which only appears on a skill if you haven't bought it yet. You really need this to try new juggle and air-combo ideas in an efficient manner; your moveset behaves entirely differently when you're actually hitting an enemy, and you need to see how an enemy is going to react to your juggles. The presence of the practice screen shows that Platinum knew this was needed... so why did they botch the implementation so badly and leave out something so critical?!?!

6. Read up on the game's score system, and ask questions about how to combo beyond the basic dodge-offset chains on a fansite or Reddit. Unlike DMC, this game's score system is horribly opaque, and really does absolutely nothing to nudge you in the direction of what you should start working on to improve once you get the basic beginner competence.

7. R2 + Select lets you instantly skip any cutscene that doesn't have a QTE in it, without having to go through the pause menu (for some unfathomable reason, this isn't mentioned anywhere in-game). Learn it and love it; Bayo is absolutely overflowing with pointless cutscenes; a true instant-skip helps the flow so much.

...Yeah, that's a lot of work to get around Bayonetta's frankly idiotic aspects to get to the combat that, when you can finally separate it from the incredible amounts of cruft, is actually really damn good. The combos and movement in this game have a really unique flow to them, quite different than the DMC series or even Metal Gear Rising or Transformers: Devastation (the Plat games with which the Bayonetta series shares the most DNA), and the enemies, with the exceptions of Enchant and Kinship, are all very well suited for the system, with Grace, Glory, and Ardor being particular standouts. It's certainly not the best game in its genre (that's still DMC 4), and as an overall package it's a complete shambles, but there's some stuff in here that's worth engaging with, if you're in the right mood.

PoE - I met my very casual goal this league of reaching level 80 and getting a 5 link chest. Storm Brand was a lot of fun and very easy to use.

So what's next? I need something that I can play casually and can pick up here and there. As I mentioned last week, I downloaded Skyrim and Enderal. There's also Stardew Valley, which I've been meaning to get to. Then there's the pull of board gaming, so I might not play any video games for a bit.

Thanks to Tiger Woods awesome come-back win at The Masters yesterday (NUMBER FIVE, BABY!) I popped in TW PGA 09. Haven't spent a lot of time playing this. I need to level up my golfer. But I do have TG PGA 07 with a Masters level Pro. I should probably play that again.... maybe finish all the competitions I've started...

Going on with this. It's very slow, but such a homage to 16-bit JRPGs that there's almost nothing left to say. The graphics look like "beautiful SNES graphics, just better, and in 3D", and the character storylines are no-bullshit, comfortable clichés all the way around. the game is strewn with random treasure chests here and there.

For those who aren't familiar with this game, it's just the above: A very very standard JPRG, in pixellized 3D. Unlike, say, FFVI, there is no overworld map; instead you have "inter-areas", between all cities, that act as typical SNES-FF dungeons – there can be random encounters there, but they are rather few. You walk from town to town, and gradually pick up all the eight characters, and there is a small share of open-worldness and random quests here and there. But it's all very very simple and very easy to access.

Two things that bother me a bit or did bother me to begin with, was that he inter-areas seem to level with you. However, they also do seem to stop doing that? I haven't read anything about the game, I'm just playing it, so I can't say for sure, but when I started out, they were marked as "danger level 1", and then they switched to level 4, then 7, and then 11, but then they sort of stopped. All the while my main character is 27 by now, they still haven't increased, but maybe that's because I haven't played many Chapter 2s of the characters.

Another thing that bothers me a bit is the lack of coin. It's happened several times that I get to a new town, and go to the shop, and see the next great axe is 50,000 gold, and all I have is 60,000, and I'm supposed to buy stuff for the entire group. But I haven't encountered any super difficulty yet either, so I guess it's just fluff. But it makes it a bit hard to equip all 8 characters, so you have to keep with the 4 you're walking around with. And not all towns have weapons for everyone, and I don't want to teleport around… so well. A bit messy there.

Slightly annoying is the length of the battles. True, they are a bit tactical with the enemies having a number of discoverable weak spots (weapons or spell types) and hitting them a number of times with their weak spot will stun them. But boss fights really do take time, they really do.

It's a very good game for those peeps like me who thought that the SNES era of JRPGing was the good one, and who wants an un-complicated, straight forward old-style JRPG that's just better looking.

Completed the current Elusive Target in Sapienza, though I made some mistakes and did not get Silent Assassin.

Also, I played through the Marrakesh bonus mission, A House Built on Sand, completing all the requirements for the "Misson Mastery" challenge, but not unlocking it for some reason. This challenge in particular seems to be bugged right now, from what I've read online. Also, I had some server connectivity issues repeatedly, but only when playing this one level for some reason. Still, it's a fun little bonus mission that makes use of the street areas of Marrakesh like the main mission on that map doesn't.

Well, it's one shinier isn't it? ... Okay, why don't you just make five a bit more shiny and then that would be the most shiny? ... Because these go to six.
At 30-40 hours now.

I've gotten a ton of skills that unlock altered artes, so now I have something to chase during battles other than just grinding exp to learn skills... ... I must like having goals like "use XX skill 100 times". So I've been having more fun with combat.

Although I have been noticing that as knocked down enemies have a window of being immune from attacks when standing back up, this means spells that happen to fire off during that window are completely null. Not quite as bad as ToS Dawn of the New World [grrr], where spells being cast would target KO'd characters, but still is just obnoxious.

Story has gotten more interesting, and I appreciated the plot twists when they happened. Up until now, I've been staring at the characters wondering when/what about these overdue plot twists eh heh...

Yep, still playing this. Used to be I'd report playing Master of Orion week after week; now it's AoW3. Been playing it steadily since I bought it in early September last year.

Maybe if I keep at it long enough, I'll become a decent player. Right now I'm struggling on Lord (medium) level. But win or lose, I do have fun playing. The game hits the "sweet spot" for me in various ways.

Earlier versions of the game are also great (though I'm slightly irritated that the original AoW keeps crashing on my computer--both the GOG and Steam version). But AoW3 is so new and polished that all my time goes into it.

Then there's the brand-new Age of Wonders: Planetfall, which is getting all the hype lately. In my weaker moments I'm half tempted to buy it, just so I can be playing something "leading edge" again. But I can see the folly in that: the new game would distract me from the one I'm already enjoying so much, and new games usually need patching and expanding before they can afford a completely satisfying gaming experience. Sometime next decade will be soon enough for me to try Planetfall.

Found Joseph Seed. I like that he's possibly changed into just a normal man. With regrets and feelings. Humanizing him is a good turn in the story. Still the New Eden people view him as the messiah, which makes for some intruiging stuff.

Rocking compound bow, silenced sniper rifle, and silenced assault rifle, all of the elite class. I've ventured into other weapons for the perks, but besides that mostly just bow.

Note to not upgrade all the weapons too strong. Sometimes trying to shoot enemies in vehicles causes them to explode, which is no good if you're trying to save a prisoner inside.

I got this new expansion added to the VGG database so I wouldn't need to keep putting vanilla Grim Dawn in these lists, haha. Now I need a good image for the rep image.

I'm still playing this quite a bit. I got really far into one of the skeleton key areas before dying. I thought I was going to break my desk I was so upset.

For those who don't know, Grim Dawn plays a lot like Diablo II or III. If you die, you respawn in town, and you can take a town portal back into the field, go find your body, and reclaim some experience points, as well as claim any items that dropped near where you died.

However, there are these special areas behind locked magical gates. You have to use a Skeleton key to access them, which can be made with somewhat rare crafting materials. Once you are inside, you cannot leave until you beat the Lord Executioner, or die. You can't even leave to sell items in town, or resupply with health potions and what not. The enemies inside these areas are very tough, and there are numerous boss fights before the final boss. I was fighting 3 boss characters at once when I died. I had already killed one of the bosses, but I didn't get to grab any of the loot that dropped.

Once you die, you cannot get back into the area, even with another skeleton key. You can only access it again in a new game session, so any items you couldn't get are lost forever.

These areas are both exciting and frustrating. I can't imagine how it would feel if a purple (Legendary) item dropped, but I died before getting it.

I continue to be impressed with this game as an art piece. Just a beautiful little game.

Also damned hard. Lots of falling into spikes and insulting my screen this week.

Fired up the game to do the weekly challenges. Did a couple then stopped. It wasn't exciting. I felt no sense of triumph winning races or completing stunts. Didn't even bother to complete a race to unlock a new car. Just turned it off. I felt like a weight had been lifted from me!

Another day, another match of Rocket League. Re-ranked in two more game types. Gold Division III. No progress. As usual. soblue

Several great games today though. Started play with some edgy hotshots that went for demo immediately and after two goals in my team's favor they ducked out and left their third teammate stranded. But did this stop him? No. He clearly hid his power level and scored two goals against us despite being outnumbered 3 to 1. He lost - which we all knew would happen - but not by as wide a margin as one might think: 5/2. Tenacious. Like it! Would play with him again.

Reached Skyhold. Which seems like the end of Act I. Ton of new areas and quests opened up.

Still think that "Inquisition" is not the right name for this. But like the characters. The lore is all too convoluted for me, although I get the broad gist of it.

Not feeling overpowered anymore.
