Very excited for both of these! Thank you so much! As I had noted on my wishlist, my husband had demoed Nagaraja at Gen Con last year, and he was really impressed by it. I was busy working and didn't around to demoing it myself, so I had it on my wishlist because of his interest. I wasn't even aware it was out now!
We learned A Feast for Odin a few months ago, and have gotten in three plays. (EDITED TO ADD: I forgot to brag about the ridiculously great deal I got on Feast for Odin--a wargaming store nearby that doesn't do much in the way of board games was having a sale, so we went to check it out. The owner of the store offered an even bigger discount because the corner of the box was crushed slightly. $30! Best deal I've ever found for a board game!) And I'm fairly sure we found out we had been playing a rule incorrectly in each of those plays, so maybe next time we'll be able to play everything right, even with the new expansion. Oh yeah!
I am completely flummoxed as to who my Spring Santa is, though. The package came from Power to the Meeple in Bluffton, Indiana, and inside was a Power to the Meeple postcard signed by "Josh." And I found a Josh associated with the Power to the Meeple store here on BGG, but as far as I can tell he's never posted in PIFF or 4G...so it's still a mystery! I don't think it's the only Josh that came to mind (Teatabletopper)!
EDIT #2! My Spring Santa has been very communicative, asking about my family and their favorites. They asked if they could address a package directly to our boys. I said, "Yes, of course!" because my boys love getting packages even more than I do. Here's a collage of the sequence of events today, when we arrived home to find two small packages at the front door.
They were so excited! Yesterday, Jace (6yo) said his favorite Avenger was Ant-Man. Corbin (4yo) said his favorite was Spider-Man. So, naturally, today they swapped favorites and claimed their new favorites in keychain form. (No, my boys haven't watched any of the MCU films. They do watch the animated Avengers series, though, and we read lots of books about them.) Thank you again, Spring Santa!!!
EDIT #3! June 4 I know who my Spring Santa is! Another box was waiting for me when I got home from work late this evening. If I hadn't read the return address on the shipping label, I still would have known the sender's identity after I looked inside. There was a PURPLE envelope containing a solid PURPLE notecard with a lovely handwritten message from none other than
The Captain Is Dead is one of our favorite co-ops, so I'm sure we will enjoy Lockdown. I am excited about Deep Sea Adventure as well...I borrowed it from the library over spring break and have also played it at the Game Night for Grownups I run at the library where I work. (Somewhat related side note to be excited about: I got a new job! I have about a week left at the library I've worked at for nearly 13 years, and where I started a circulating board game collection. I start at my new library on June 17! And it's closer to home! Hopefully I will get to run some board gaming at the new library--I will be coordinating adult programs and outreach, and the library already has a circulating collection of tabletop games.)
Thank you so much, Shannon! Your generosity is overwhelming!
Wow, I didn't expect to be the second one with an entry on this list!
My wonderful Spring Santa just sent me two Exit Games we haven't solved yet! We will be on a family vacation soon and these are perfect to solve with my brothers- and sisters-in-law who will be with us. I told my Spring Santa about our vacation and s/he must have known that our family like the Exit Series as well, so this is a perfect choice!
My Spring Santa also told me that I will receive a second parcel when I'm back from vacation
Thank you so much, my dear Spring Santa, can't wait for my vacation now!
Edit: I had a wonderful vacation with perfect weather and lovely people. During that time my Spring Santa stayed in touch with me, wishing me a nice holiday and telling me that the second part of my gift will arrive soon after I'm back. In addition to the two Exits I received a few weeks ago, yesterday I got two (!) more packages from my Santa (and target :
I'm working late today, but was expecting a couple of packages to arrive today (A-Force Vol 0 and Keeper of the Lost Cities: Flashback), both for my daughter. They were both surprises but not for special occasions or anything, so I told my wife they didn't need to wait for me to open them. So I was a little surprised when I got a text a little while ago asking me why I'd bought Codenames: Harry Potter without telling her. (I think we're all familiar with that sort of exasperated but not surprised response!)
Further investigation revealed a note:
Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards for they are subtle and quick to anger. But not only that, for the journey does not end here...
Subtle indeed! The kids are excited and anxious for me to get home now. And the clue has left me an idea of what may be in store for me, but I shall wait and see lest I arouse the anger of my Spring Gandalf.
Edit: The second package from Santa arrived a day or two before Lexi's little brother, so I haven't had time to post here to thank my Santa properly! Thanks to a local spring torrent, the package arrived rather waterlogged, but I had nothing to worry about because the ocntents inside were still in shrink!
The full Special Extended Edition of Lord of the Rings! LOTR is a Big Deal in our house, and it's what my wife and I bond the most over, so this is an awesome addition to our library. With my wife and kids home for the entire summer enjoying some baby bonding time, we're all looking forward to a marathon! Unfortunately the note included got lost in the intervening chaos, but I believe it said
"Hopefully your wizard training has prepared you for this epic journey from beginning to end."
My spring santa tried to taunt me, but I was able to match the language in the message to similar language over on the OP of the piff thread and out her in one guess. She let me know a box was on it's way Monday morning and, lo and behold, it arrived today.
Karuba I've been wanting for a while, but refused to pay full price for it. I kept toying with the idea of getting it from Envoy for too many appearances just because I think my daughter would like it. It also has a heckin-sweet foamcore insert that's very much put'n'play, which is teh awesomes. Edit: forgot to include; it also looks like it contains Karuba: The Volcano, but I'll need to do some digging on that, because there's no rules or anything for it.
Secondly, the monster that is Round House. I've been slowly dipping my toe into what I call "heavy" games. I feel like things like Orléans and The Castles of Burgundy, while thinky and crunchy enough, aren't considered heavy games. They're medium weight at best (imo). So things like Teotihuacan: City of Gods and Gùgōng and Railways of the World have been creeping their way up the wishlist / into the list for math trades. Round House was one such game. I'm interested in it; I think I'll like it from the reviews I've watched, but I am SO intimidated by it. LOTS of moving parts. Wish me luck!
Thank you very much Spring Santa! I'll let you out yourself if you want.
Hey hey, got a great package from a mysterious mysterio mystery PiFFer! One Amazon box, two NIS games I've been excited to play!
Thanks a bunch, these will be great!
Also, after some motivation from a little note from my Spring-Santa, I updated my profile with some info about myself, just to have it out there. I used to have some things, but I deleted them all some months ago... I think it was just weird seeing several things that were dated and a little too personal... to me, anyways.
A little birdie bunny told me that tracking said I should receive something May 15th. Well the delivery was super speedy and I got a parcel notification today! So I swung by the post office on the way home to pick up a box.
I brought it home and, cats being cats, they were very interested in the box. Well, 2 of the 3 cats were. The 3rd doesn't ever go near the front door.
Fortunately it was only the box they were interested in, so I had no problem getting the game away for myself.
Pulsar 2849!! This is one I've been wanting to try out for quite a while and I'm super stoked to have that chance now.
Thank you so much mystery PiFFer/4Ger!!!
Getting it played didn't take long! D&D fell through last night, but one of the other players came over anyway and we played this. She has a copy too, but hasn't played it yet so it was a first game for both of us. Loved it! I thought I was going to get crushed by her, but ended up only losing by 3 points in the end.
As a home coffee roaster, it happens to be my go to place for beans and roasting needs. Here's the funny part: my sister and brother-in-law sent me the same exact thing for my birthday! But Sweet Maria's servers were down for a bit and my sister told me I had to "wait" before my birthday email gift arrived. When it finally did, I had no less than TWELVE emails from Sweet Maria's!!!
Contained in those 12 emails (mostly duplicates) were THREE GC codes, all for different amounts, but all for me! "Odd," I thought. "Why didn't my sister just send one for the total amount? Huh, oh well." My brother-in-law asked me to follow up with those GC codes to make sure he wasn't charged multiple times and I shared them with him.
Sure enough, he sent me one GC, and some mysterious someone sent me the other 2. I can only assume it was Santa? So, if it was you, Santa, THANK YOU!!! I'll be ordering more beans shortly! And if it wasn't Santa, then thank you to "Renee Wiederhold".
EDIT/UPDATE: So, apparently this was NOT from Spring Santa. But thanks to the confusion, I was credited with an extra $40 in store credit for the mixup. So I guess I'll leave this entry here and update it in the future should the need arise. The mystery continues!
ANOTHER EDIT! Santa has delivered in SPLENDID fashion! In addition to this eagerly-awaited addition to our family's collection of co-ops, I also received this:
So Race for the Galaxy is one of my favorite game. Once the symbology is learned, it can go really fast and still feel very satisfying when played. I've played just the base for years (though relatively recently got Gathering Storm, partially for the solo aspect as well, and partially for the extra player), then I got Roll, which is also plenty of fun (still like Race better), easier to introduce, and the symbology kind of works in both in similar way.
And now, my generous Spring Santa has told me that I have a package coming my way, and upon opening, reveals New Frontier. I am extremely excited, as it is a full board game that are in the same line as Race and Roll (and heavy influnce from Puerto Rico, which I did enjoy, but kind of burned out from over playing at one point time). Can't wait to try to get it out on to the table.
My Santa was very stealthy. I got a couple GM's saying I had a pretty easy wishlist and I made it easy for him\her! I love that! I got this today in the mail as well as Qwinto which is awesome because 1. Jaipur is a favorite app for me and my husband to play together. I have always wanted a physical copy..and now we have one! Great job, Santa! 2. We both love roll and write games (Welcome To... and La Granja: No Siesta being our 2 favorites) so this will be a welcome addiction to our collection. Apparently there is more coming so I will add it when it arrives. But I have to say that I have never been more pleasantly surprised with such great picks! Thank you SO much! I hope you have as great a Santa as you have been
Upgrades! Santa sent me a message last week that a little something was on it's way and it was discovered in my mail today. Thank you for helping to keep my Terraforming Mars game organized during play!
Terraforming Mars finally hit the table at Thursday's game night and the overlays quickly proved their worth.
WOW Santa!! I'm speechless! You had said that the main gift would follow and I suspected the box waiting for me when I arrived home late last night after gaming was from you.
As I removed the peanuts more games and a book appeared to my wondering eyes...
You're a total First Class Santa! Thank you so much! I've wanted Russian Railroads since my first play but didn't add it as a friend has it and it's out of print. And I get to build castles/towers with Torres. Mascarade and Slush Fund 2 quick fillers to add in.
I enjoyed the Encyclopedia Brown books when I was young but have never journeyed to the streets of London via book or board. Will I be equal to the challenges posed in this literary intro? Did Santa leave clues for me to find?
I hope you're enjoying the gifts from your Santa as much as I will enjoy these.
Not only did Spring Santa send the listed Meeple Circus, which I am super hyped to play with my kids, Santa send Colt Express: Bandits – Belle to upgrade my favorite zany programmed action hiest game, and One Deck Dungeon for me to play solo at work and especially when work takes my away from home for a few days.
Wow Santa, thank you for these wonderful gifts I cannot wait to try them out!
If it wasn't Santa, then I need figure out who is managing to order games for me without spending my money... And get them a longer list...
A little package came today. I thought it was strange and I couldn't recall the origin of the package because it was sent directly from the publisher with a hand written note. Funny thing is that I have played the game with the publisher shortly after publication at GAMA. Thanks for the thoughtful item, Flag Dash: Deluxe Upgrade Pack from PieceKeeper Games.
Yesterday came a call from unknown number and they said they have a delivery for me. I was already at work but my wife was at home and she have send me a picture of a box waiting for me. we have already arranged to leave the kid at my parents for the weekend so right after work I had to pick him up and go there... and the box was still waiting... then we had to do some errands... and the box was still waiting... then we already had arranged to meet some friends... and the box was still waiting... finally I got home and first thing I did was and I didn't opened the box immediately. First I took my shoes of and went to the bathroom to wash my hands and then I opened the box Inside was this huge game Mansions Of Madness and a note that was really nice and kind of told me who my Secret Santa is. Thank you very much for bringing smile to my face and to my family!!!
My santa sent a few hints and I was able to guess after 3. Although, it wasn't confirmed until it arrived.
I'm really excited to play this one as my group loves the game, but no one owns it.
They've also hinted that there is more to come.
Edit #1: A package from my Santa showed up last week with all kinds of goodies in it. There was a lot of back and forth with lots of fun puzzles, so I had a pretty good idea what to expect, but I am blown away by all of it anyway!
First were a few games!
Then some 3d printed accessories for Puerto Rico and Keyforge (many messages asking about my preferred storage)
Finally, some absolutely amazing upgrades for Root, which I have kickstarted and am waiting on the most recent version (still probably a few months out though...)
And apparently, there's one more thing on the way
Edit #2: The last piece came!
I'm looking forward to this one, a buddy had this but sold it before I got to try it. He admitted that he regretted selling this one off. This GeekExchange doubles the amount of Chudyk games my group has (one friend has Glory to Rome Black Box and another has Innovation). We expect these to get some good play.
My SS had sent a couple inquiring messages, and let me know when they expected to get this mystery package shipped.
A few days later I received another message that said they weren't able to ship it yet since they didn't have a box large enough this is where I start to get excited.
Then I got word that it had shipped, and they provided a tracking number.
At work a few days later I check my camera alerts and see this poor soul hauling a massive box up our stairs:
I somehow resist the urge to claim that I'm not feeling well so that I can go home.. finally done with work and pumped to get home!!
The box is huge, and quite heavy! At this point Wilder and I are both super excited to dig in; 25lbs is a lot.
I finally get a few other things taken care of and have time to dig in. Hmmm, a box in a box.. now my imagination starts getting the better of me, cause I've seen pictures of things that come in a box like this
Spoiler (click to reveal)
Wilder was almost as excited as me, but turned out he just wanted to climb on top. (I didn't let that happen of course)
They also included a set of removable stickers, and this mysterious envelope. If you have an idea what it is, please don't tell me!!
I'm just in shock really, I've wanted this for a long time!
This has long been my grail game and it arrived on Saturday, NIS.
Along with it (as if Freedom wasn't enough!!) came Sagrada ... also NIS!
We've played Sagrada a couple of times already and we hope to play Freedom soon.
I'm sorry to be slow posting this. I was "volunteered" to build the set for my daughter's forthcoming ballet production and spent the whole weekend cutting, drilling, hammering, and cursing general building.
Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou, Spring Santa!
I have an absolutely incredible Spring Santa who sent me two games from the top of my wishlist. Spring Santa was extra-awesome for noticing that we have recently moved to Canada from Australia, and most of our games are either in storage or in transit, so they sent two brand new full games (rather than expansions for games we already own) - this has effectively doubled our current game collection!!!
Here are my awesome gifts:
We have already played Teotihuacan twice - the first time at the library (lots of curious looks!), the second time on the floor at home (dining table also still in transit). We discovered that we're now too old to spend that long sitting on the floor (how do kids do it!?!). However, the game is awesome and I can't wait to play it again!!!
There is also a package on the way from Spring Santa's home country - I'm excited to see what it will contain.
An update to add that the second package from my Santa (and target! ) has arrived. Thank you so much! We are loving all of the goodies, and are excited to add the expansions into our games!!
