What is a Geek Chat League?

A Geek Chat League is a weekly discussion-group format for people who love gaming and enjoy talking about games. It is intended to foster depth and familiarity, producing engaging content and worthwhile interaction. Members get to know one another, establish shared interests, and generally develop a friendly and productive environment.

Of necessity, each division of GCL is kept relatively small (typically between 12-16 members, though individual divisions may incline one way or the other). A tight-knit discussion group tends to function more smoothly than a free-for-all. It allows individuals to be heard and understood, and for each participant to keep up and enjoy multiple topics as the week progresses. The format is geeklist-based, and lists are not published to the BGG front page.

Policy: If you're a lurker or have otherwise discovered GCL Gelato, feel free to read along with us and see what the members have to say on everything under the sun. If you have a constructive comment or something else you think would add to the discussion, consider posting it — if it's helpful, respectful, and polite to the discussion group as a whole, as well as to its individual members.

What do you think / hope / fear is beyond "the final curtain"? How certain are you of your case, your beliefs on life after death?

What is your experience with, disposition towards games that deal with death, either as an explicit theme, or as a mechanic?

What are your biggest regrets in life? Are they "too few to mention", or more substantial?

What is the one game you most regret buying / not buying / selling / not selling when you had the chance?

I find it all, all so amusing

Board Game: Titan
Board Game: Startups
Board Game: Power Grid
Board Game: Mint Tin Mini Skulduggery
Board Game: The Castles of Burgundy
Board Game: Button Men

 7   Titan (98 all-time) iOS
I'm closing in on 100 plays, all of them online.

6   Mint Tin Mini Skulduggery (7 all-time) wk and John
Last Thursday we decided to get take out chicken from the Downlow Chicken Shack - they make Tennessee style hot (as in spicy) chicken. John came by early to help pick up and while we were waiting for the others, the Kelda pulled this out and we had a quick game.

 10   Power Grid x2 (94 all-time) TNC
We got an early start (thanks to take out) and played on the Central Europe map. Naturally, I cheated by buying a nuke plant when I was in a no-nuke zone so we have yet another game with an asterisk next to it, but at least the step 3 card was in the deck.

We then flipped the board over and played the Benelux side. What a great map for five players. And the "toss the lowest plant each turn" mechanism means step 3 arrives in a hurry. We played this with the new plants.

Related, I've got a geeklist about which maps I've played and how often - Power Grid - A geek list about one of my favourite games.

 8   Startups (83 all-time) TNC
We ended the night with a full four round game. I note that the cards are starting to get sticky from all the play this has seen. I'm debating a new copy or sleeves. I'll likely do sleeves, but then I'll need a bigger box.

I can't and won't say that all of the Oink Games are good, but the ones that are good are great value.

7   The Castles of Burgundy (53 all-time) Gelati
I may win this at some point. Yucata does handle the administration nicely.

A 10th anniversary deluxe edition with all the expansions is coming later this year - I'll be buying it as my wife and I play it often enough to make it worthwhile.

 6   Button Men x2 (5 all-time) Avri and Tommy
Over at buttonweavers.com, Avri and Tommy are busy schooling me at this more to it than at first glance game.

What's going on...
The Fantasy Trip: Legacy Edition: Canadian shipments should be on their way within the next two weeks. I'm impatiently awaiting the print materials to resume the campaign as my group has been nagging/prodding to get our next session booked. I appreciate their enthusiasm, but they're also at a point in the campaign where I need to have handy reference materials to keep things going.

Minis: My TNC that are in my TFT game are all so into it that they've all gone to Heroforge to design their own minis for their characters. That's really awesome.

Europe update: the update about my Europe trip is that there's no update.

There wasn't much gaming this week. Most of it consisted of games on Steam or on Yucata.de. I did go to a game convention this weekend and had a chance at learning some games that I have been wanting to play for awhile!

Wingspan - I played this at the Gaming Hoopla Convention that I was at. I really enjoyed this more than I expected to. I managed to come in second place with a score of 67 (unsure of this is good or not). I can see this being added to my collection at some point. I know the demand is still really high for this game, so it may be added in a year or so.

Tales of the Arabian Nights - This game is the ONLY reason I went to the convention. In case you didn't know, I won a ticket to go to this convention from a G4GG auction a while back. Part of the prize was that I got to pick a game out of the user's collection for them to teach me how to play. I have been wanting to play this game for YEARS! Oh it was as awesome as I pictured it being. I didn't win - in fact, I didn't even come close. My character had a rough time navigating the board. I loved the storytelling aspect of this game. I hope that one day I come across this game for a good price. I know in the past when I have looked it was rather steep. We shall see.

The rest of the games on this list were played online.

Lots of things happening in my life right now. I am still doing the guitar lessons. In fact, I just got new strings on my guitar. If I had to guess, the strings I had were at least 10 years old. They practically disintegrated when I took them off. Best part, with the help of my co-worker, I was able to do MOST of the work putting the new strings on. I am super proud of my effort. We ran into some problems with two of the strings, so he helped because I was afraid of breaking them.

I am officially on a volleyball team! I have been searching for a team for the past few years, but haven't found any. Last year I was lucky that I got to sub in my co-worker's team, but I only got to play twice all summer. This year I lucked into finding a team. Our first practice is tomorrow and our first game is Sunday the 6th. (sadly, we had to wait for one of our team members to be cleared to play by a doctor, which is why we won't be having many practices before our first game).

The upstairs bathroom is usable! I believe I mentioned in here that our upstairs bathroom was unusable and needed to be rebuilt. Well, we went in there and scrubbed and saw that we are able to save most of what is in there. We still need to get in there and patch a few things and give it a fresh coat or paint, but that is so much better than ripping everything out and starting over!

Oh - last thing. I got a new computer! It can actually play games! I'm super excited about it. Don't laugh - but I finally started playing WoW again. I had a character on my ex husband's account that he never let me play (I was only level 10), so it is nice to actually play the game. I am now a level 5 - exciting times! Please don't laugh, I didn't play this much when it was a big thing.

It's moving day!

A whole lotta mixed feelings around here, as we love where we live & our neighbours. Today we make the move to our new home. The good news is: it's *ours,* without rent raises or nosy inspections from the ownership group (they didn't like the 20cm high fence we put up in the back). It's also nice and close, as you can see:

From gallery of tommynomad

Right now the boys walk/ride 150m to school. That becomes 400m if we let them cross the big bus route, which we don't. So it's the dotted line--1.1 km--to get to and from school every day. The first green section from the new house is a kind of petting zoo, with deer, goats, chickens and a peacock: that should slow them down a bit. They'll almost pass the old house on the way, but most Dutch kids link up on the way to school with waiting friends, forming a kind of caravan. With Kidnomad's best friend living around the corner from the new house, this is a welcome dynamic.

The new place is a little more suburban/less exurban than the current one, and I'm not thrilled about the greater light pollution. Right now I like to spend Sunday mornings getting high under a dark sky full of stars, which won't be possible with a parking area (only 5 cars, but floodlit) out back of the new place. But the tradeoff is the largest playspace in the city out front, with ping-pong & a climbing wall. So I'll take it.

Oh, and some gaming was had:

 7.0   Sleeping Queens x3 (41 all-time)
 4.0   Robot Master x3 NEW!
 6.0   Mystic Vale x2 (14 all-time)
 7.0   The Castles of Burgundy x5 (11 all-time)
 9.0   San Juan (122 all-time)
 5.0   Race Through Space x3 (12 all-time)
 5.0   Silly Sentences NEW!
 N/A   Pokémon Trading Card Game (4 all-time)
 6.0   The Game of Authors (126 all-time)
N/A   The Voyages of Marco Polo (3 all-time)
 7.0   R-Eco (32 all-time)
 7.0   Glen More (4 all-time)

I'm really enjoying delving deeper into CoB and Mystic Vale. I've come to realise I'll never be a breadth gamer, relatively speaking: it suits neither my budget nor my tastes. I mentioned on another geeklist that I'd probably be happy to own just one family game--Razzia! right now, and Tigris & Euphrates when the boys got older. Having all these games is nice, but a single game would mimic most of the world's gaming reality. Making it a great Knizia would of course be an exponential improvement on the Monopolies/Risks/Sorrys we grew up with.

My Korean game buddies have caught the Yucata bug, and we are playing 5 concurrent games, trying to add something new each round. Right now that new thing is Glen More, which I find just ok. Better than Marco Polo, though. Playing R-Eco, Mystic Vale, CoB, and Stone Age with them is a pretty great starting 4, too.

I'm off to pick up the e-car. Have a great couple days, and see you all on the other side!

GAME WEEK

 10   Star Wars: Imperial Assault x2 (83 all-time)
 N/A   Unpublished Prototype (24 all-time)
 7   The Flood (2 all-time)
 5   Fate Core (2 all-time)
 9   The Witcher Adventure Game (11 all-time)
 9   Runebound (Second Edition) (29 all-time)

Andrea and I finally found the time to start the new Star Wars: Imperial Assault – Return to Hoth campaign using the app. Now the story is we are a squad of Rebels that have missed the opportunity to evacuate Hoth with the other Rebels and now we’re stuck on that ice ball and try to get through Imperial patrols and steal a shuttle or similar transport to escape. I love it so far.

Lonny is currently finalizing the 2-player variant of his new edition of 1824: Austria-Hungary (which is currently on Kickstarter if you are interested) and we had another testing session of the special 2-player board that will be included in the game. I guess it’s ready to be published.

Friday was RPG night, but one of the guys is currently on a vacation, so Markus jumped in again and we finished the Fate Core adventure we started four weeks ago, in the Deadlands: Reloaded setting. I totally like the setting, but I find the Fate Core rules too mechanical for my taste.

Saturday was adventure game night and we started at 2 PM with The Witcher Adventure Game. I think this is an underrated gem in the FFG catalogue of out-of-print games. It is one of those games that already feel complete with the base box (which is nowadays not always the case when it comes to FFG), and Andrea and I both like it very much. I played the Minstrel Dandelion, while Andrea controlled Tess, and our friend played Yarpen, the Dwarf. In the end, Tess the Sorceress won, and when I checked my logged plays, Andrea won this game the last seven times we played it too! It seems to be her kind of thing meeple

After a short lunch break, we put Runebound (Second Edition) on the table (at Andrea’s request), and we all had a blast. For us, it feels so much less mechanical than the third edition; it’s more colorful, more luck-driven, and much less Euro than the new game (without saying the third is bad - no, it is definitely not!). It was very close in the end: Andrea and I, we both had already two Dragon Runes when our friend Siegi (who had none) managed to draw High Lord Margath himself … and won the battle against the Dragon Lord, thus winning the game! I totally love this. Emotions that only a true adventure game can create! It was awesome!

Board Game: Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I hope you all had a great week too! meeple

I introduced my casual Tuesday-night gang to Discworld last week. Discworld, if you weren't aware, is a game about death, because you can assassinate people and DEATH plus some undead are in it.

Despite that theme, it was a hit with my brother and two friends. Pretty tight all the way, but close to the end of the deck - only about six cards left, I was able to start my turn in control of four areas for a win for Lord Russ (or whoever I was, one of the three that wins that way). Otherwise, my brother's Vimes was going to win.

Other gaming: had a practice session of Fire in the Sky: The Great Pacific War 1941-1945, a game about killing and death in the Pacific, with my buddy. At least, I suggested we call it a practice session after I sank two of his Japanese carriers at Port Moresby on the second turn of the game. We'll resume from the top this week.

And on my solo table is Carthage: The First Punic War, a game about death in the ancient world. It's pretty cool if a tad complex, but I feel like I'm grokking the land/naval stuff so now, for the campaign game and all the political things, too.

Board Game: Arkham Horror: The Card Game

10   Arkham Horror: The Card Game (112 all-time)
After a month long break, my friend and I finally carved out some time to continue on with our Return to Dunwich Campaign (I log everything under AH LCG, then in expansions note the cycle/mythos pack). That said, this time I did not (I had to leave before we finished, we continued the game and finished Friday afternoon). It's the scenario before Undimensioned and UnSeen.

It was a good play, kind of. I kept drawing poorly and even though we found the objective rather quickly, we were a bit beat up in the process. We decided on option 1 of 2 advance the final Act, but sadly, with just 1 health left on said objective, both of us died. My friend to an encounter card during the previous draw and me to an enemy. I'd managed to do 11/12 damage on my turn but could not survive the monster phase. It really was a long shot, and I knew I'd not get the full 12 dmg needed, being short 1(if I succeeded at all fight tests), but we played it out anyway. If my friend had not died, he likely could have gotten that 1 final hit.

Also, my plans to get Beat Cop out several times (could discard him to do that final damage) were thwarted by Encounter cards saying I could not.

Thus far, I am really enjoying Arkham Horror: The Card Game – Return to the Dunwich Legacy. I will never play Return to...Zealot again and would say, unless you are a completionist/want the extra cards, skip it.

Board Game: Res Arcana

 5   Res Arcana (3 all-time)
I had a bit more time left so we played a quick game of Res Arcana, this time drafting cards vs randomly dealing cards for the player decks. My two previous plays of this game did not go over well and I said I'd give it a 3rd chance using the drafting. This time it flowed better BUT I still did not like it.

It's a real cube pusher IMO - taking cubes to place cubes here for points, taking cubes to build this card, cubes to do this etc. I also find it utterly boring. While there are some cards that give some player interaction by making them lose things, most have a blocking card. Also, most times it's more beneficial to you to do the other action on the card vs harming your opponents.

Drafting slightly improves it by letting you build your deck to make a better starting engine, but the rest of it, bleh. And dare I saw I do not even enjoy the artwork on this one? It's well done, just not my style.

Board Game: The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth

 7.3   The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth x3 (6 all-time)

After I got back home later that evening, our friend came over for 2 more plays of JiME (we played a 3rd game on Saturday, hoping for 2 total but the blizzard that blew in had him leaving early). The build up for this game was a bit slow to start, the first Chapter being more of a tutorial then anything, but we have finished up to Chapter 6 and it's getting it's legs. Our 3rd chapter of the weekend was pretty tense, pulling a win out at 87/90 threat and all odds against us, so that was pretty exciting.

Overall, all of us are enjoying the game. Our friend bought the playmat for it on Saturday and that was a nice addition for the table to place the tiles on. I think my friend may end up selling his copy of MoM2e once JiME gets more expansions as he much prefers it to MoM2e. The IP, the cards vs dice, the story/cohesive campaign are all things pulling him in.

Was a good week and while I did not play a LOT of games, the games I played (with the exception of Res Arcana) were fun and enjoyable. I had hoped to get Escape Plan back to the table, but each evening Owen and I were just too tired to set it up and play. Then the weekend game and N had her dance comps and our friend was over twice for JiME. Maybe this week it will make it back to the table.

As mentioned in my JiME report, we had sever weather warnings on Saturday and our friend decided to leave early before it got too bad. Unfortunately our oldest was still at her dance comp and her number was not until 6.30pm. One of the fellow Dance moms who lives 15m (on clear roads) from us offered to bring her as far as their place and we gratefully accepted. That said, they got 'stranded' on Highway one for 2hrs due to an accident/road conditions so we decided an impromptu sleepover for the girls was in order. We went and picked Tasha up the following morning.

This past week also saw me finishing up the final figures in Stuffed Fables in addition to painting the sun symbol class for Gloomhaven. I followed Sorastro's paint guide for this one. While the miniatures in this game are not great quality and details are lacking, this one was not to bad. Also, they are giving me the opportunity to practice my blending skills.

Next up in the paint que is R2D2 and CP30 while I wait on my white and grey airbrush primer to deliver (tonight/tomorrow). I have some Badger stuff but I'm not loving it so am giving the Vallejo Air a try. Once that arrives I'll be diving into painting up The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth, again, following Sorastro's series on Youtube.

I closed out the week with spending some money on the above mentioned hobby - a Foldio 2 Plus Lightbox + the light accessory, some more bases and then the air brush primer. :0) No plans for the upcoming week except to do some painting and enjoy the idea of zero plans or places I need to be.

Board Game: Reiner Knizia's Decathlon
Board Game: Just One
Board Game: Euchre

 N/A   Reiner Knizia's Decathlon NEW!
 7.8   Just One x3
 8   Euchre

An old university friend from out of town dropped by to share memories and three or four beers with us, so we all went down to our agreed pub and when we arrived we headed over to ur usual booth. Occupied! Highly unusual.
So we check out the other booths and the only one available is a squishy one for four people; we are six.
While we are milling about, deciding if we should move out to the "common" tables or just go to a different place altogether, a watress comes over and asks me what the problemm is.
I explain the numbers to her, and she says, "Oh-- do you want to use our private dining room?"
I had no idea that such a thing even existed.
"You can reserve it. It fits twelve people."
We are only six, I remind her.
"No problem. No one has reserved it so it's open. Do you want to have a look?"
Lead on, I tell her.

We walk way across the room close to one exit and she walks up to a ten foot wall with a big metal handle on it, and pulls it to the side-- like the door on a giant wooden passenger van.

Not only is it well-lit-- something that none of the other main room booths can claim-- there is a TV screen (not that we cared too much about that) and it's about 30 decibels quiter than the main bar is.

From gallery of MABBY

Sold!
We also received superb table service, something that some of us were worried about, being out of sight and away from the main action.
So the waitress attending us got large tips from everyone, and we had the best gaming that you could imagine. Other than I sucked at rolling dice during the Decathlon game.
We also managed two near-perfect (12 out of 13) games of Just One, which is swiftly becoming our go-to party game.

Oh-- and those "books" that you see in the photo above? They are all just slabs of painted wood. Only someone took the time to router two edges so that they actually look like pages between two covers. To the tune of more than a hundred of them.
wow

Then, on Saturday afternoon, my daughter had arranged a craft brewery pub-crawl for some of her friends, for her birthday celebration. My wife and I were also invited.
A bit of a puzzler, since I don't know when she decided that she even liked drinking beer. My influence must have rubbed off, I guess, since she was in there sampling sours and IPAs with everyone else.
Alien abduction and replacement, maybe? Who are you and what did you do with my little girl?

Highlights included a "coconut brown" ale, which had a very pleasant and clean coconut flavor, unlike many bitter tasting and chemical flavored coconut brews of its ilk.
I also sampled many IPAs in the west coast (bold hop aroma and flavor) and east coast (hazy and aggressively bitter, with new-age citrus flavored hop profiles) styles.

While we were moving around between breweries on Saturday afternoon (we couldn't even get into one place because it was full of people having a baby shower. A BABY SHOWER! I tell you, honestly! In fact, most of the places had numerous kiddies at the tables), a freak arctic storm was blowing in.
90 km/hr winds and wet snow smacking into you horizontally.
By the time we got home (it took an extra 30 minutes and it was near white-out conditions for most of it), there was 30 cm (close to 1 foot, which they convert to around 3" of precipitation; melted) on the ground.
I had been out on Friday in short sleeves and no coat. Even the morning wasn't too bad.

External image

By this morning, it's all a memory. There's still some snow in the ditches but I can see green grass poking through in many spots, and the roads are mostly bare again.

What a ridiculous game. I won by 1 left-over cash, and it was a hard fought thing. With the uncertain game end timer, I was on the edge of my seat, as without one final turn I would have come third. However, the pastry gods smiled upon me, and I managed to ride my madeleines to victory. It's become one of my top "megan can't play so I get to choose something she dislikes" games.

"What is light conversation?" Anyway, this is the best TtR experience, bar none. I used to think it was the claustrophobia of Switzerland, but teams is like a drawn-out mind meld. Gosh, I can't wait to play again. Perhaps with 6? Either way, a Martin recommendation that bore fruit. I guess not everything is the fox in the forest.

Played with Rivalry, don't know when I'll ever play the additional modules, but the extra tiles were a joy. I need to get this played more often.
Megan waffled in that way we all do in a Lehmann sometimes, in that she kept thinking "I'll get a 6dev soon, so I'll generalize", and when it never came, too late she realized the game was almost over. But in a far cry from when we first began gaming together, she was, how you say, having fun the whole time.

If I could just play more of this, it would be so grand. I think this game really just succeeds at giving me that clicking dopamine rush. Sean wrote about catalysts, and this game is all about riding those out, so it's a non-stop tension that floods your senses.

I know I have been sort of absent the past few weeks. In the last month we both sold our old home and bought another one, so between packing, cleaning, moving and continued unpacking, free time for games has been very scarce. This has been disastrous for our Knizia challenge. I had a huge lead at the beginning of the year, but in the meantime it has completely disappeared and I am still on track to finish, but mentally I am way behind.

Board Game: LOT
Board Game: Ra: The Dice Game
Board Game: Palazzo
Board Game: 18CZ
Board Game: Grand Austria Hotel
Board Game: Mixtour
Board Game: Twice as Clever!

N/A   LOT x4 NEW! - A friend has been picking up some abstract games - this one was tricky and fun. I like the simple rules of these games.

7   Ra: The Dice Game x3 - I unfairly dismissed both this game as well as Priests of Ra when they were first released. I now realize that it happened only because they weren't Ra. Enough time has passed that I think I can now evaluate them on their own merits. Ra does a good job abstracting the game into a different kind of press your luck. It is much harder to really have a nice run of tiles, and the way that disasters work also makes valuation way different as well. This is a nice change of pace, but still suffers from being not sufficiently shorter than Ra to command table time.

7   Palazzo x2 - I have enjoyed this little auction game. There is quite a bit of luck in the tile draw, but the economy here makes for some fun auctions. He really distilled the auction experience down to the essentials, making for an extremely quick, yet fulfilling, experience.

N/A   18CZ NEW! - I am by no means an 18xx expert, only having played a handful of games. The Czech flavor was wasted on me. It seemed fairly bland, though I was not a fan of the length of the game. I think it's listed at around 5 hours, and it probably took about 6, but it really should have been no more than 3.

7   Grand Austria Hotel - This is another game of the type that I mentioned above, where it feels like everyone else has become an expert while I barely remember how to play. The theme still rubs me the wrong way, and the game is so solitary that it can get a little annoying watching your opponents chain all these actions together. But it's still an enjoyable JASE game, and I can see why people like it.

N/A   Mixtour NEW! - Another abstract that was fun, but not as engaging for me as LOT

N/A   Twice As Clever NEW! - More of the same. I like it, but I can't imagine teaching this game to someone that hasn't already played Ganz schon clever.

Masons can be hit or miss online. It seems like some of the options are not available when on mu iPad, but they are on a PC or the MacBook. Go figure. I've been playing R-Eco a lot. Really enjoy the game and it's easy to and fast to get your move done, where I have to try a couple of moves on CoB.

Sunday we went whale watching and I got a great series of shots of a whale breaching.

I know I have another play of Dancing Eggs. Need to put that in. Hilarioous game in every way.

Bunch of good gaming and after 3 plays of Journeys in Middle-Earth I like it a lot. I play a solo campaign with Elena and Beravor and finally won in the third scenario.

My 2 plays of Terraforming Mars was with the Colonies expansion and I liked that too alot. Might just get rid of SpaceCorp, because I have what I need in TM.

Movies:
Finished book 4 of the Mortal Engines series on audio book and watched the Mortal Engines movie. That was a bad adaptation of the book. Just bad. THe first chase scene is ok, though.

Also watched Endgame.

Have watched «Star Wars: A new hope» and «Empires strikes back» with my son. He really enjoys them.

Books

Finihsed the sixth book in the series about the sailor on the Norwegian Merchant Navy during WWII. 6 very good books with a very emotional end. Also started reading Helmet for my pillow about Robert Leckie and his Pacific war. Hes story is in The Pacific HBO series. Also really want the Band of Brothers Pacoific game to arrive soon.

Still reading Lord of the Rings for my son. Good fun, but man Tolkien uses al ot of words.

other stuff.
Went out on my mountain bike the other day. Absolutely shit shape, but really fun.

I think that was my April.

So what have I been up to the last month or so?

Spent a truly magical week down in New Orleans visiting my brother, his wife and new baby boy while my folks were also in town from England. Oh, and it also happened to be the French Quarter Music Festival (which explained the silly flight prices . . .)

Insectariums and Pharmacy Museums, Irma Thomas belting Time Is On My Side and Teardrops to a huge crowd, an impromptu brass sextet playing just for us, beignets and chicory coffee, pecan pralines and mint juleps. And Boo spending time falling in love with her first first cousin.

Magical is the only word.

Saw Glenda Jackson turn in an astounding performance in King Lear (with Jayne Houdyshell and equally fascinating and powerful Gloucester) in a production that took a lot of missteps. Still glad to have seen it. We're off to Tony Awards frontrunner, Hadestown, next week. Also looking forward to the Jagged Little Pill musical in the fall, with tickets going on sale next week.

Work is insanity, but I'm keeping my head above water and am beginning to see some positive results to all of the hard work.

My beloved Tottenham Hotspur made the Champions League Semi Final for the first time in one of the most dramatic and exciting matches ever played, made all the more absurd by the fact that the power went out at the official home of the NYSpurs and we had to gather at another nearby bar. For those who don't know, there were 5 goals in the first 21 minutes, what appeared to be the winner for Spurs in the 80th minute, followed by a long video review before the goal was confirmed, then an aparent winner for Man City 4 minutes into stoppage time (and silence in the bar) until this goal *was* overturned on video review (beer on the ceiling!) We're down 1-0 in the first eg, so need a win in Amsterdam against Ajax next week to make the Final, but first we can cxlinch Champions League football for next season with a win in our penultimate league game tomorrow . . .

Come On You Spurs!

Oh, it was also Johanna and my birthday - we were the same age on April 12.
