The idea behind these lists is to post what you're currently playing, or just played. It's interesting to see who's playing what, to see if people are playing the same things, and to ask questions that might otherwise be relegated to a forum about a game with the benefit of the responses coming from someone who has it fresh on their mind.

While there are several regular posters to this geeklist series, anyone is welcome to join in and post and discuss your games!

On vacation so I have a travel box o' games packed. Everyone else was tired after the long drive so I got in some solo games. First was a solo learning game of Tinyforming Mars. I've never played the name brand version so I can't make a comparison but I can say that this homage is very good. Everything fits well together, the game flow is easy to understand and there is a lot of thinking and planning ahead. With it being the first time I'm missing a lot of the good options. I made it to the last turn 2 cubes away from victory but I'm pretty sure that I took more turns than I was supposed to. Looking forward to revisiting this and getting in some plays with Day.

Another new to me. Far easier to understand but just as challenging. This will require at least a few plays until I get a really good feel for the grid building. I get now why its so popular.

First time two-player game of this. I think it is a bit more difficult at 2P, not a different game, and not a bad game (like some games are not good at 2P even though the box says 2-N), just a touch harder because the board/lake state does not change much from one turn to the next, and there are fewer lantern cards. Also, the winner and loser are obvious before the game is over.

(Also played Champions of Midgard and Qwirkle, but not really worth mentioning.)

With our lighter-games person not feeling well, I was able to convince the rest to play one of my favorite games; it had been a few months since we played it last. Understandably. It is a long game for us; this session took about 4½ hours, by far the longest we have ever played. I do not mind, though; that is my thing -- I prefer long games. Still, I think this is a 2-hour game for most. I am beginning to suspect, however, that there is not as much player agency in this game as I would like to believe. I will have to check the forums to see if anyone has tweaked the rules. But I also have not played it very much, so maybe I am missing something. It will take more play time, but the obvious problem with that is it is difficult to get to the table because it takes so long (well, takes me so long; it is mostly me).

Hmmm... I have been keeping the scores for all the times we play, but it occurs to me that I should have been taking note of the clans played, too. My suspicion is that every time Nancy plays Clan Cunningham (milk) she beats the pants off us.

I think I will have to play this game at least a few more times before I get any idea of how to win it. I think the speculation (my inability for it) is what did me in. Also, much of the game is social guesswork: "Which city will she go to?" or "Will they loop the price of salt back around to the minimum?" However, I was pleasantly surprised that the friend I did not believe would enjoy it seemed to have a great time of it.

Oh, and what a find! This is the first game I added to my wishlist after I joined BGG, and Amanda noticed it on the "used" shelf at a game store we visited to play RPGs. When we opened the slightly worn box, we discovered that it had, in fact, never been played! How strange, but lucky us!

Oh, and the RPGs: we played some first ever sessions of Mouse Guard and The One Ring. Amazing stuff!

Not Patience, but [b]Aces Up[/p] - one of my favourite solitaire card games with a regular deck of cards. I really enjoy playing it even though it rarely is a win.

Played a lot of Spirit Island last weekend (of course). Wound up playing three in a row on Sunday. Two games were kind of unusual.

In one, as Vital Strength of the Earth and Thunderspeaker we were really struggling; just couldn't ever seem to get things in the right place at the right time. Despite that, we were keeping unblighted OK, but just couldn't stop the invaders - lost by running out time!

In the next game, with River Surges in Sunlight and Serpent Slumbering Beneath the Island, a really unlucky event + invader start location combo led to us blighting during the first ravage! Despite this, we managed a solid recovery and demolished the invaders. And I finally managed to fire off Serpent's big earthquake that hits the entire island, which I've never managed to do before!

This has been sitting around from KS for a while. I enjoy the base game; its a nice light game of building card stacks with various combos and powers, but there's just a bit too much "take-that" for me. The Overlords expansion includes a co-op variant; its a bit awkward (the rules aren't very clear), but on first plays pretty fun. We won both games, but they were very close - in the 2nd play we only had 1 health left!

We used to play a co-op version of Terraforming Mars constantly, but then I foolishly suggested we try adding Terraforming Mars: Prelude. We did, but we just couldn't get our co-op mode to work with it, and wound up stopping playing.

So last night we played and just didn't use Prelude. Would be nice to figure out a variant for it.

Lisa had Ecoline and I had...errr..one of the new corps that I can't remember the name of. I spread myself way too thing trying to do too much, but we still managed to just barely terraform everything and break 200 points, which is our goal value.

Went to the special monthly game night. Amanda and I played this with some fellows we had never met before. By the end, I believe we had made some converts! I even developed/discovered a strategy based on a mistaken action (rather, lack of action) that one of the new players kept doing. I shall have to test it next time.

Played a 3P at the special game night, and a 2P game with a friend tonight. Both were tense games; I am beginning to think that is the only way Samurai plays, pensive and nail-bitey. I love it.

Sean said he and Nancy just got this Kickstarter game, but I see that it came out in 2016, so he must have ordered it from some other place. Anyway, I did not think I would like it because it has so many elements I do not like — primarily card play, use of an electronic interface (an app), and a D&D theme — but it was alright. It was cute. If you want a fast, bare-bones RPG experience, this will do.

Had to go to our #2 FLGS to meet a fellow Geeker from whom we were purchasing The One Ring core rulebook, and we took Spirit Island with us since Tuesday is boardgames night. He had never played but was interested, so we invited him to join us and the three of us made a go of it. We got our butts handed to us by the wave after wave of invaders; blight is what finally did us in. Good game, though! I think he might have enjoyed it enough to think about getting it for him and his family. (That's two boardgame "sales" we have made in the past week. )

It's been attack of the fillers because of the great weather, so many fun things to do outside! We've gotten in a ton of plays of For Sale! which is always good fun, especially once everyone has a good ahndle on the set up of the decks.
