My party is in the mid-60s now as I prepare to navigate the depths of the forest after Heimdall. Just today I decided to play around more with sets of EX skills to unlock combined ones. Before I had just kind of stumbled across them by accident.

I think I'm nearing the end of the game, but I'm still wondering how many times "good guys will be revealed to be bad guys will be revealed to be good guys" before I get to the credits.

Trying to master this particular game's methods, not always an easy thing to wrap my head around. I did download one of the more popular mods, though, which is a skin that emulates the Advanced Third Reich boardgame from the old Avalon Hill. Which sounds sort of like putting a Maserati engine in a Studebaker, but does simplify play as I understand.

After turning down a game on my wishlist from the free list because I knew I wouldn't play it for half a year, I realized I should probably stop just playing Warframe/PoE and make some progress in my single-player games.

This one is... not easy. I am dying a lot even to random big shield guys, let alone the bosses who kill me many, many times. But I am, somehow, making progress. I would like to beat this game; we'll see if that's possible.

The plan was to dive into Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance after a week of Thanksgiving travel, but not surprisingly I felt kind of worn out, so Kirby it is!

This is a solid, vibrant platformer that seems obviously good but also hits a bit of a ceiling. In the context of its release, I think pretty much everyone agreed that it fell short of Wii-library highlights like Kirby's Epic Yarn, Rayman Origins, or even DKC Returns. But... having played a few hours, I can say it runs circles around more recent cute-platformers like Unravel.

It's neat. The level design is maybe more proficient than clever or ambitious, but I'm glad to finally get around to this one. Also one of the best-looking Wii games.

(This is one of the Kirby games where he copies enemy abilities... including a martial arts enemy that let's him do a Dragon Punch... so that's kind of awesome)

The last time I played this, was probably in the late 90's. I played Civilization in its various incarnations a lot but I only played Colonization once or twice. I remember that a playthrough was longer than the already long games of Civilization and that I didn't have the itch to give it one more try after finishing it.

I started a game as the French who have the special skill to get along well with the natives. I'm through the first of three centuries and never fought against them. Early on, I conquered all known Dutch settlements for a headstart but then I got complacent, concentrated on enlarging my settlements and exploring but didn't build any military. That got back on me when the British came directly for my largest settlement and conquered it in a single round. I could start from a previous save but the first century already took me 6 hours and the next two centuries will have twice as many turns if I don't win prematurely. I'm probably call it quits and move on.

I'm into the best game of Dominions I've played so far. It's a three-player game on a medium map, and I'm playing as Arcocephale (based on ancient Greek mythology, but heavily embellished as all the nations are). Athena is my pretender god, and her two rivals are C'tis (a lizard race built upon Egyptian mythology) and Phaeacia (another Greek nation, with seafaring advantages and colossi).

Since C'tis was moving up toward my territory early on, I blocked them and then started pushing them back. That went so well that I decided to just take that nation out. I hadn't bumped into Phaeacia yet anyway.

That campaign went well, until I reached their fortified capital. By then my army had dwindled, and it was a long way from home, so I couldn't bring up reinforcements easily. The siege went on for months, and meanwhile Phaeacia moved in from the northwest, steadily capturing my territory and getting closer to my capital.

Finally enough units trickled in to storm the C'tis fortress. But the assault failed! First time I'd ever seen that happen in the game. My attacking army scattered and retreated, and somehow C'tis got a force together.

At this point I gave up trying to take that fortress. C'tis was practically out of the game anyway, and I had already wasted many months besieging that place. I needed to get my leaders back up to my own capital to fight Phaeacia.

I did that, but now Phaeacia is strong. I've got C'tis bottled up in their sole province, and I've been repelling all their little attacks. But I've lost some big armies to Phaeacian attacks or stubborn defenses.

In the past couple months, though (each turn is a month), I've been on the offensive again. I've claimed two of the three thrones of ascension needed to win, and the third is underwater. There's a chance I might get there (I just had Athena forge an amulet of breathing, to make sure she can survive underwater). But I have to somehow get through the Phaeacian armies on the coast, and I also have to protect the other two thrones and my capital.

What an absorbing game!

Picked this game up just under a year ago and finally fired it up and put 12 hours in so far.

I am really enjoying the game despite the very long tutorial. I am almost done with the first palace and I have 2 in-game days left to complete it and it is crunch time.

The music, art, voice acting, gameplay are very fun so far. And that is despite not having been able to completely access all of the other activities I will be able to do in the game! I just hope I don't screw up the first palace. I fiddled around too much trying to figure out how I replenish SP while in there. Hopefully unmake it because my team got wiped several times by a minor boss last night -_-

.... also it is very addicting.

Got past the tutorial, after it forced me to redo it after the most recent update. The game really opens after that. Got my Blackwidows all painted up. My pilot is injured, but the others made it through okay.

I'm looking to change the weapons on my Blackjack. The AC/2 were practically worthless in battle. The gal with the PPC was kicking butt.

LRM's are pretty handy too. If one of your units has LOS on an enemy, then it looks like that the whole crew can launch missiles at them, if in range.

Almost finished with the aquarium in the Community Center. I didn't think I'd bother, but I only need one more fish, after I caught the elusive Tuna.

I went back to this for my hardcore list because I was just kinda hanging out and I got past my hump. It was a really silly thing i was stuck on and when I realized what I was supposed to do I rolled my eyes and moved on. Now I'm in the eighth dungeon, and on my way to endgame. I should finish it up today or tomorrow.

I still think that Link's Awakening is a better game, but I am really enjoying this despite some misgivings at first. I feel like Link's awakening has a lot of nostalgia going for it (even though i never owned a gameboy or played it on one as a child, it was my first 2D zelda that I owned) but they share some of the same faults.

Nonetheless, I'm glad I'm going to finish it!

This game doesn't really feel like an AC game. It feels more like Witcher III in Greece. Which I think is wonderful! AC had become quite a bit tiring, but the new attack and defense style from Origins feel so much better.

Kassandra seems like a good protagonist too. I'm enjoying her personality. Also like that dialogue choices do matter and change the outcome of events.

Ok, I gave in and bought Heroes of Hammerwatch in the Autumn Sale.

Installed it and started as a Paladin, but could barely progress past cave level 1. After many fails, created a Ranger. Still took me some tries to get to the first boss, but beat him, with just 3HP left.

Since then I tried delving and progressing further while gathering ore and cash to upgrade my town with more and better merchants. Got to the 2nd boss, but am still too weak.

Lots of new stuff this week! I picked up Slay the Spire on switch, for my travel home later this month. I figured I'd just play a few minutes to try it out....and I've played multiple hours of it now! The game has a way of REALLY getting under my skin. I've beaten the game with the first two characters, relatively easily, but I've been banging my head on a wall trying to win the the Defect. Pretty well every single run is ended because the enemy has a big attack that I could normally muster enough block to survive, but the draw of the cards screws me and gives me no ways to block or draw additional cards. It's infuriating that no matter how hard you try to build a deck, you're still at the whim of RNG.

I played a bit more of Shadow of Mordor and in my last play session, I encountered (and killed) the same Orc I think 5 times in the span of about 30 minutes! He just kept coming back over and over again! He's my new best friend, I hope I am never able to kill him.

I played some more of my shared game of AC Odyssey and climbed the ranks to be the top mercenary and got a fun fire horse for my troubles. There are some areas in the game that give you "heat" that you can't pay off, and there were multiple times where a veritable clown car's worth of mercenaries came at me. At least twice, I had to fight off about four at once or in a row.

I got myself set up with Final Fantasy Tactics using the LFT mod. I think I said last time that playing Fell Seal just kind of put me in the mood to play FFT again. I played a few of the early battles but I don't think I'm mentally prepared for going back 22 years to lose features like auto-save. My intent is to play where each character gets assigned two jobs and can use skills only from those two jobs. Each job would also be used only once among my roster. It seems like a good way to find some use out of skills and classes that might not otherwise make the cut in a "full" file where everyone can get Move+2, etc.

For Switch

I noticed my local vg lounge now has a Switch for play, along with a bunch of Nintendo games available. The ones that caught my eye were this, SMB Wii U Deluxe, and Zelda BotW. Probably shouldn't start all 3 at once. It was between the former 2. Been a while since

Oh, another obstacle I overcame was.. I wasn't going to do anything long term with Nintendo games since I figured I'm likely to buy my own Switch in the future. I'm not so sure now... too many games, bad time management skills. Dollars to donuts, I'll never touch a Mario game after I'm "sufficiently done with it". Hell, I still have Mario Galaxy 2 on the burner. I did beat the game, but I also wanted to get all the purple stars (which is where I last left off, 9 months ago).

Another consideration is even though my XP boost for StarCraft 2 will last for 30 days, I'm going to be out of town for at least one of those weeks. If I get in more time with this, THIS is local, so I don't have to burn a lot of money in gas, hotels, outside food, and whole days of time at a time. At this point, the XP gain is for cosmetics... not improvements to my gameplay.

As for the game, played for 3 hours. Got through Cap Kingdom and Cascade Kingdom. However, I've only gotten a few Moons from the former, and missing at least 10 Moons from the latter. A bit disappointed that when traveling between Kingdoms/worlds, you can skip the cutscene part of that, but the part where you get tips to play the game is STILL mandatory! angry

Played for another hour.

Got 6 more Moons in Cap Kingdom.

I am "more aware" that this game is pretty much a glorified scavenger hunt, but there have been some platforming parts that invoke that fun Mario feel.

Granted, if I"m having too much trouble finding moons, I'll just move on to the next Kingdom/world/zone. "Circling back", I'll pay Toad 50 coins so he can mark them on my map. If I'm that desparate, I'll use online guides. I may be able to borrow friends' Amiibos, but, that seems extreme.

Another hour.
Found another Moon in Cap Kingdom*, but otherwise, moved on to Sand Kingdom, and found 7 more Moons there. Even though I've played some of this before (via other people's Switches, or demos), nice to play it for yourself. Do look forward to 2 worlds/kingdoms later when it's going to be completely new to me!

The parrot tells you the name. However, I would've thought this was something on the overworld of the level, and you need to "dip low" as a flying goomba to find it. Nope! You needed to find a secret entrance, and that room itself has you navigating them poison waters.

So I've got this nice desktop office PC (HP EliteDesk 800 - G1 I think) which have a decent CPU, a nice amount of RAM - but missing a proper graphic card (this is something I am planning to fix by installing a GTX1060 - and maybe 32 GB RAM, just for the laugh).

I also have this nice "little" laptop (Lenovo Y700), which does seem to age a bit (and also looks like it have been to war).

But I couldn't find my Asus USB BlueRay drive, so I had to use the HP - and although the game runs on the "new" (compared to the game's age) Intel Graphics, it lags (offline!) and crap up the screen... Now where the heck did I place the drive?! Maybe I should find a board from an old SATA internal HDD and borrow the slim drive from the EliteDesk (or one of the other small PCs, and get it to the Y700, because if it ios because of the graphics card, then the Y700's GeForce GTX 960m would probably do a better job.
... but it could also be the compatibility mode that messes up the screen: The game won't run natively in Windows 10, but require me to run it as Windows XP SP3 Compatibility.

But it was nice playing this! I do with there was a Campaign like in Battlefield 1942, and not only Single Player maps and Multiplayer maps like in Battlefield Vietnam...
But I look forward to play it more.

-----

So, I found my little Asus BR drive and hooked it up to my freshly reinstalled Y700 (although I had promised myself not to use it until next year...) - and BF2 went great on the Y700 (in Compatibility Mode) - but at one mission, the game kept crashing!
So I went to look for patches as I did see my version was a 1.0-something and I thought just maybe an update would work out. And yes EA Games did release a 2 GB(!) Patch 1.5 (the patch 1.4.1 I think it was called) was required - and not only do I get some extra missions (including a few missions with the new EU faction), but the game also continued to play the mission that kept crashing!
But that was after I removed Compatibility Mode, since the 1.5 Patch apparently also let the game run under Windows 10 (Vista according to the official release note, but also 10 I see now).

So now I am almost finished with the Single Player missions; I have three left and have done my duty of five hours of BF2. Once I am done with the BF2 maps, I think I might even consider to install the first expansion as I am having the Battlefield 2: Complete Collection, but so far only installed the original game.

Everyone's Chapter 2 quests completed and moving on to the lower Chapter 3s. Looking for the shrines to get some other jobs on characters but they are either hidden well or are located in deathtrap areas I can't venture too far into without being killed.

I remember when this first came out not long after the first RTS like Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty. I didn't play it myself as the theme seemed a bit dark but I had friends who played it.

A few years ago I picked it up on GoG (had a look and it is really cheap at the moment). When I saw it on the Community Goal list unplayed I thought I would have a go.

I almost gave up. Once again I have found that my health is not up to real-time games anymore and about the fifth mission in my team was getting continually wiped and I was left still exhausted hours later.

Then I watched an old YouTube and realised the key is using the drug boosts (in the game on the agents, not myself!). So I had another go, always using all four agents in a group, armed with multiples of the best tech I had researched (and could afford) and triggering their full drug boosts as soon as any enemy is spotted, then leaving them to it. After the battle I drop their drugs to the bottom, put away their weapons and resume the mission. Much easier to handle and more successful to boot. I'm sure another player could do better with individual agent control but this is working for me.

So I have played for about 6 hours, 13 missions, Europe and half Asia is mine. I don't know if I will finish the game or not but I have posted it in the Community Challenge Geeklist anyway.

Comment: Tackling this since I finished Evoland a bit back. While Evoland is a silly game toying with various tropes, Evoland 2 is actually a straight regular RPG, that uses some of the toying from Evoland as general aspects. Said in esier words, in Evoland, you start out in a Gameboy environment, and as you progress, the game quickly goes to colour, to better resolution, to more music, to more colours, to 3D and so on. And it's a short game. Evoland 2, however, is a regular retro-esque JRPG with a very decent storyline, where the toying with the genre is that each time era you travel to has a different set of graphics. And that several sections of the game, and some boss fights, aren't RPGs, but instead an action game, Street Fighter II, Puzzle Dragon, even Dance Dance Revolution.

The journey has been very good so far. The game has crashed a couple of times, which is bad, but it hasn't bugged on me yet in an unrecoverable way, which I heard the Switch version could do.

I parked Colonization for now and started playing Yakuza Kiwami which currently is on Humble Monthly. So far, I'm having fun and not much trouble with the fights. I don't really understand what I'm doing in them but mashing the 'X' button while occasionally resorting to the 'Y' button and the 'B' button does it at this stage. I won the first Mashima fight to regain my Dragon fighting skills but haven't found any side missions or done any minigames yet. It's cool to buy bento boxes to regain health.

Having been to Tokyo this summer certainly helps enjoying the game as I recognize the Kabukicho quarter. I like that the game is distinctly Japanese but not anime. Not too many games feature formal presento giving to red-light girls with your tough hero seeking out a jewelry store and actually buying a ring. I'm intrigued.

I also continue playing Through the Ages. I have a handful of asynchronous multiplayer games open and do my turns. Still hoping for the first victory against real players. It can get frustrating but luckily Through the Ages is the only game that has an official resignation from the game in the rules and I use this rule when somebody goes the bully route exclusively.

Finished up most of the Kirkwall quests prior going to the Deep Roads with Varric. Didn't want to take Bethany so took Anders for healing and Aveline for tank. Fenris doesn't seem as tough. Wanted to take Merrill but not enough seats. I'm a rogue. Just got the full set of The Last Descent armour.

Nice game!

I got to level 100 in Snake Cavern, which was the final quest I had in my quest log.
Spoiler (click to reveal)
Qi gave me some... snake milk? It increased my max HP.

I'm in the winter of my 3rd year now, and I feel like I've pretty much done everything. (except for hunting achievements for cooking all the meals and stuff, which I'm not interested in doing) I figure I'll wait until the 1.4 update comes to mobile, and then I'll jump back in.

This parody of an RPG is actually pretty funny, even if it's not as funny as it thinks it is. But so far so good.

Also Fortune Summoners, whose annoying controls are adding some unnecessary difficulty. Hollow Knight was such an amazing game for many reasons, but one of them was the incredibly responsive controls, which only made me more likely to notice the lack of it in other games.

Yeah, I know. Finished the PoE season, and then impending Railjack meant that Marius drew me back to Warframe. I still had a little platinum leftover, so I went about picking up a lot of the prime items I'd missed in my time away. Now I'm amidst the long process of building my railjack, but I know it's worth finishing. Once it actually launches, I'll be able to host fun missions of the new type without other VGGers having to go through this laborious (and pricey!) questline.
