It has to be the Snathi from Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords.

They are a race of... EVIL sentient squirrels!

They seek to enslave everyone!

They attack with large teeth and chittering voices!

Their leader is named Snarky!

Sure, they are probably a huge joke... but they make me laugh every time they try to attack me.

Probably the Quarians from Mass Effect. They're not one of the "major" races but I'm kind of fascinated by the niche they occupy and their internal priorities.

Well the honest answer is a custom race in games that allow it. But that hardly seems appropriate for this discussion.

So I'm going to go with the Pkunk from Star Control 2 / the UrQuan Masters.

They are a bunch of happy goofy birds, who act like cliche psychics, and happen to be powerful psychics. And the special ability of their ship is to insult their opponents.

I like the Elcor from the Mass Effect series. They are a huge, lumbering, slow species. They have to verbally indicate their intended communication tone because to human ears they speak in a monotone and other races can't pick up on the scent and body queues in their communication that convey additional meaning to each other. They are solid, predictable, slow to act, and advocate for advocate for calm cooperation.

The ads regarding productions that elcor are particularly humorous and I loved running across them. One was the all Elcor Hamlet production and the other was an actor in Blasto, an action film, staring an hanar in the lead role.

Like Amy, I'm quite fond of the Elcor from the Mass Effect series.

I also used to have a soft spot for the Protoss, from Starcraft.

I'm interpreting "alien" to mean "non-human" (watch, tomorrow's QotD will be about fantasy races):

Mine is from the Mass Effect series as well, though for me the Salarians edge out the Elkor by just a little bit. That's probably because they remind me of the many brilliant, hyper, and seemingly always slightly anxious friends I've had over the years.

I'm with those who have Star Control II. It does alien races so well I can't choose between them. Virtually all of them are memorable and hilarious. And the game has quite a few, so it's a huge writing achievement to do so many so well.

And nobody here who appreciates great comedic writing in games has an excuse not to have at least tried to play it. If you can post to VGG, then you have at least one piece of hardware that will run the open-source version, The Ur-Quan Masters.

I'm not big on sci-fi, but perhaps the Chozo from Metroid for training such a badass bounty hunter and having cool temples (although I know them mostly as statues), or perhaps the cast of Star Fox (the "Space Animals" as they are called by some). The fourteen year old in me thinks that they are totally cool, and they are really fun to play in Smash Bros!

Mordin is one of my favorite characters from the whole Mass Effect series.

Oh, Chocobos are my favorite thing. But I don't view them as aliens. Just friendly mythical creatures I want to put posters of on my fourth-grade locker.

I'm glad that's want, not do. I'm pretty sure going to a school and breaking into some kids locker to put pictures up there is a practice universally frowned upon, and "This was my fourth-grade locker" is not likely to be seen as a good reason to violate this particular cultural taboo.

Fun fact: Chocobos were inspired by Horseclaws, which were inspired by Gastornis!

Lest one think, "Aww, I wish I lived in the Cenozoic era where there were real life Chocobos", I will also point out that this was also the age of the terror birds.

Also, fun fact that can to mind when looking at that animated GIF. That would be a dry lick. Birds don't have salivary glands.

Why do you think it's trying to drink that girls moist tears?
