Home from work because daughter had Dr. Appointment. Turns out today Denver area and beyond is in full on blizzard mode. Hellacious wind, ice, and snow fall of around an inch an hour. It isn't accumulating much because the wind is making drift like crazy. Any horizontal surface has a few inches, any vertical surface over a foot.
Dr. cancels appointment an hour beforehand. Weakling.
Also getting intermittent power outages because the winds. It's a bit like snowpocalypse.

So. At home. Crazy power outages keep shutting down my XB1X so playing Far Cry 5 with daughter is annoying and really freaking hit and miss.
What's a fella to do?

Honey mustard pecan smoked chicken wings! Wahoo!

Sigh. The half inch of ice encrusted on my grill tongs is rather annoying.

This is awesome and all, but I am a bit disappointed by your lack of adult beverage chilling in the snow.

...granted, it is still the middle of the afternoon there, and you didn't really clarify if you're going back to work or not, so I guess I can allow it!

Nice chimney. I have the exact same one.

And now I'm starving, thanks. For reasons I can't even explain to myself, I've decided to significantly cut back my caloric intake this last week. As a result of that decision, I'm now pretty much hungry all the time. The very thought of pecan smoked wings isn't helping.

So glad I decided to make soup for dinner tonight. That should really hit the spot. So much better than, oh....I dunno, wings, for example.

Dammit.

If I go back into work it will most likely be after 10 as part of the late shift for snow removal. Adult beverage? G'Knight Imperial Red IPA by Oskar Blues. The finest IPA in existence. But safely left inside. The winds are seriously bad enough that it would go off the deck and that would make me cry. Tears would freeze to my cheeks and it would just be downhill from there!

Winds hitting 50mph and just supposed to get worse.

Freaking dogs keep wanting to go outside because of the snow, linger for several minutes then want back inside because of the wind.
They come inside looking like tauntauns, covered with snow and ice encrusted.

That actually sounds delicious. But alas, I'm making "loaded baked potato soup". Which is still good, but not honey mustard pecan chicken wing good.

You misspelled "Bells Two Hearted Ale" for your IPA. Haven't heard of Oskar Blues before, but I'm guessing that's because it's regional. Probably the same reason you might not have heard of Bells!

My "treat" for making it through this week is an "Arrogant Bastard Ale" by Stone Brewing. Not an IPA, but a strong ale. Has some bite.

On the topic of imperial red ales, I like Nosferatu.

Arrogant Bastard is one of my favs! Oskar Blues is not so regional but not so wide spread. Colorado is home base, have breweries in Texas and North Carolina. Their mainstream pale ale (Dale's Pale Ale which is somewhere between a traditional pale and an IPA) is the best selling microbrew sixer in the US. G'Knight is amazing. A red Imperial IPA that's not quite Imperial. 8.7% abv but only 60 ibu's, so not super bitter. The bitter is nicely balanced by the malts to make something that is dangerously drinkable.

I call it Gordon Knight who the ale was named after. Vietnam vet and firefighter who lost his life fighting a Colorado wildfire. I get weird looks when I order a Gordon Knight at bars. Have to change up and say G'Knight for servers to know what I'm asking for. Usually. The ones who get Gordon Knight get very generous tips.

Sounds it. Looked up the brewery, and the closest location I can get a G'Night is about 70 miles away in PA.

Although there's a bottle shop in town that does bring in stuff from all over. Might have to mention the brewer to the owner.

I've always been fond of Dogfish Head's 90 minute IPA (or 120 minute for a special treat), but those don't quite have the same flavor profile as a lot of IPAs I feel.

Bell's Two-Hearted is the only IPA I can drink a lot of though.

No alcohol for me. And weirdly, I drink cold soda in the winter. Even when it's freezing outside.

Is there a way to make Honey Mustard Pecan wings in the oven? Grilling isn't allowed in my building, and those sound really good.

I see my [primary care in about two hours. Hopefully, I'll get some answers on some of the questions that have been bothering me about my health. Going from doctor to doctor this week, all week, and that's no fun.

Good luck with your doctor - wishing you luck that they're not too tied up with red tape to give you solutions.

Also I've been strongly considering going alcohol free, not due to any particular issues or anything, but just due to general disgust with a lot of the alcohol industry at a high level and with the fact that giving up alcohol would fit in with the same reasons for giving up any other drugs: I don't like stuff that messes with my brains

So game-wise, I finally got around to having some friends teach me how to play Escape from Tarkov. Last year when we got our inheritance, I picked it up but I decided to let them build it up into a better experience before I jumped in.

So I did recently get to play it and it's quite addictive. I like it even though I normally hate punishing shooters of this nature. There's something fun about the RPG elements and about the risk vs reward nature of the gameplay. Would be fun to do some raids with any of you own it.

Let me know if anyone might be up for it.

Weather in Denver has apparently made national news for the cold, snow and high winds. People stranded in cars. Police can't respond to stuff. Power outages. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria.

I suspect I'm going to have to drive into work at midnight for snow removal. Should be interesting.

There's another complicating factor in that I have until Tuesday to turn in a Reasonable Accommodation request from one of my doctors. If I can do that, I get to move into the ground-floor apartment in my complex that just opened up. If I can't, I'm out of luck.

This would have all kinds of little benefits for me. Stairs have become an adventure, so an upstairs apartment in a complex with no elevators is a problem. Especially when I have something like laundry facing me. I have enough trouble carrying a hamper of laundry without having to worry about the stairs. My back and balance issues qualify me -- at least in theory.

But the timing is weird. as I said, I see my pain specialist Friday. But I saw my regular provider earlier today, and this would have been done now if I'd known about it in advance of seeing her...

I like the 90 minute IPA, but don't believe that I've tried the 120 minute yet. It's on the short list.

I was the same way for many years. Nowadays alcohol is more or less reserved as a "special treat". Something to enjoy with a good meal, or while sitting in the backyard in the Adirondack chair watching the sun duck down behind the trees. Everything in moderation, etc.

It's interesting you mention that. I've been hearing a lot about the game recently. Is it an early access game, or actually released?

Same here. I barely drink at all any more, which can sometimes lead to some awkward social situations among my fellow late 20s/early 30s folks. It doesn't help that I've never been a big fan of beer (bring on the effeminately named cocktails, I have no shame).

I don't know what it is these days, but if I have more than a couple of drinks, my body hates me the next day.
