At $200, this is a pretty easy price point to get into the Switch platform. And I would like to point out that $200 is the price point for the New 3DS XL... certainly seems like this is the death knell of the 3DS Family.
Probably for the games. It's got a larger library, more variety, and they're cheaper. AFAIK, it probably has better battery life. I reckon being it's smaller, it's easier to carry around and play on.

Probably similar to the age old question of "why get a smartphone when you can get a laptop with superior specs at the same price?"
I agree that 3DS family is still a great platform, it's my personal favorite current platform. But with this pricing, I think it is pretty clear that Switch will be Nintendo's only supported platform in the very near future.

Unless the 3DS family gets a price cut and is aimed solely at kids? That's a possibility...

As far as battery life, none of the 3DS family have exceptionally good battery life, so I do not know if that is actually a factor. Switch Lite has slightly improved stated battery life over OG Switch.

The battery life on the Switch scales hugely with the game. One of my most played handheld series are the Picross games. The Switch versions of that are far kinder on the battery than the 3DS versions. But once you are taking about a Switch game like Breath of the Wild, then the hardware will run flat rate than with any game on the 3DS.

The 2DS is only $80 as it is. I imagine there will continue to be demand for a cheap handheld like that, so I expect Nintendo will keep supporting that for a while. Whether they will continue making games for it though is another question.

On ebay right now (at least in the US), Nintendo is selling refurbished 2DS and 3DS family system at a huge discount. $120 for a New 3DS XL (retail $200), $100 for a New 2DS XL (retail $150), and 2DS for $50. These prices have dropped to this level only in the past month or so -- before that they had refurb N3DSXL for $150 -- a savings but not nearly as deep.

Honestly just waiting for an eBay Bucks promo before I get the N2DSXL...

I didn't know Nintendo sold refurbished devices on eBay. Good to know.

If I buy a Switch I likely buy the normal one (or Pokemon Let's Go version) and not the Lite.
