Square Enix is the last major multinational PC developer I have any faith in at all, and it is a thin cord. This is going to be a rough year for them between the player-unfriendly changes lined up for the new FFXIV expansion and the ill-advised episodic FFVII remake starting next March.

Funny, I lost faith in Square Enix a long time ago. For all they that they keep trying, I think they've pretty much just forgotten how to make good RPGs at this point. They've done all right with FF XIV since the relaunch (although I haven't played since Heavensward) but then that's an MMO which is a different sort of beast entirely.

I do hope the episodic FF VII remake will be good. The fact that they're spending an entire feature-length episode just on Midgar is intriguing, to say the least.

Oh, if we're just talking about single player Final Fantasy games, I completely agree. But they've had some winners in their extended portfolio lately, and as long as one ignores their mobile offerings (and who wouldn't), they are largely free of consumer-abusing controversy.

I agree with Yoichi Wada and Tetsuya Nomura circa 2012, when they both said that remaking FFVII before Square Enix had surpassed it would mean the end of Final Fantasy.
