By using a white or transparent background the bolt might gain a bit of plasticity. But I also think that it the colors vibrate a bit more with a black background.

Here is a version with a black outline and transparent background.

But I'm still leaning towards the button or glow variants with black background. They also resemble the shortcut icon the game uses.

I would drop the silly transparency thing. Some MBs are better with a nontransparent background.

Super NES (American)
If it weren't for the fact that the rest of them were so awesome I probably wouldn't have noticed that the SNES could be better. It just isn't up to the standard of the rest of them. Might be better if it was at a lower angle? I don't know. The rest are dead-on, though. thumbsup

I use the Gimp. To make a dropshadow you:

1. Select the area that you want shadowed. I have a transparent background at this point, so I use the fuzzy select select by color tool with the threshold set at 255, which is as high as it goes. When you click any colored pixel it will select them all. If you use "select all" it will create a shadow around edge of the the 16x16 canvas, so you don't want that.

2. Right-click and select Filters > Light and shadow > Drop shadow. A window will pop up where you can select the number of pixels you want it offset from the selected area, the radius, the color, and the opacity of the shadow (I generally go with 0 offset, 100% opacity, and the radius is on a case-by-case basis.)

I may have made it sound more complex than it is.

Due to the darkness of these consoles I find them quite hard to distinguish, IMHO. This might also be as I have never owned one of these consoles so a fan might immideatly recognize the console's shape. They somehow lack a distinguishable feature.

What about making the screen area this green/grey color the gameboy was famous for?

And I love this MB.

What about a Gameboy Micro microbadge?

I think this new versions looks much better and more 3D than the quite plain version.

Also this shows the "old" DS, while the existing MB looks more like a DS lite. Just nitpicking laugh

Awesome. I bookmarked your post so I can get to it when I have a chance to try this. I use Gimp, but the only dropshadow tutorial/instructions I could find was an extremely lengthy web tutorial that was for an outdated version of Gimp! You saved me a bunch more research!

Howdy all...go ahead and follow the rules as setup previously. Nothing will change wit the current process. I see a lot of badges in the geeklist--can't wait to see some of them live.

Try to put them in the correct alphabetical category, if it doesn't exist, I will create it. I have been creating them slowly as we have gotten more and more of them. Eventually we will get all letters added.

After having advertised Chrono Trigger to a fellow VGG, I noticed that there are currently no Chrono Trigger badges although this is one of the most loved RPGs.

Therefore I created tis set of character microbadges of the main heroes:
Ayla
Chrono
Frog
Lucca
Magus
Marle
Robo
