I know VGG isn't quite as popular as BGG, but man it still surprises me sometimes what hasn't been made.
I figured the K-O-N-G letters are pretty iconic from the games as a series, and would be a fair bit more recognizable than if I tried making a banana/bunch.

Alternatively, a slightly modified version that pays homage to the sprites from the first game (they're less clean, but have a nice "shiny" gradient to them):

I like the second one a lot better but I think some on the white shine is missing right above the darker gleam, on the left top leg of the K. Nice job capturing the metallic look with that version though!

I agree with you so completely that I had actually already done this while I continued working.

Having some more fun with the property, I also went ahead with these:

I'm thinking they'd have mouseovers like "[Insert Kong] was my favourite to play!", except Cranky who would probably be "Back in my day ..." or similar. I need to look up some of his old quotes.

Heh, alright, I tracked down and went through all of Cranky's DKC1 lines (there are a heck of a lot more than you realized, I guarantee), and there were two that really felt right. Hope nobody minds another poll~ whistle

Maybe just two footprints? This one makes me think of tadpoles.

Not sure if there, it's a little drab. Maybe wooden door instead of shadow.

I did try two footprints but four felt more like a process of walking. I'll do a version with two though.

Or maybe the hint of torch light down beyond the doorframe, as if from stairs below.

There already is a subtle red/yellow glow. Problem is if it's any less subtle, it just cancels out the shadow...

Make the inside of the gate darker, and the light brighter?

I agree with both ArcticLancer and Sjeng:

In their current forms, I prefer the version with the door. However, as a general concept, I like the idea of a dimly lit hallway; so if you were able to somehow make the overall hallway darker while paradoxically also brightening the torch, then I think that I'd prefer that one.

Not very helpful, I'm sure. Maybe just stick with the door?

I would like to propose a microbadges for Flappy Bird:

Name: Flappy Bird fan
Mouseover Text: Flappy Bird fan
Group: Video Games
Subgroup: F
Group Description: Mobile Games and Apps

Source:

Website: https://flappybird.io/

Creator's Note: I'm also considering more creative mouseovers instead. Maybe something that expresses the frustration and difficulty experienced during the game, such as, "I survived the first pipe!".

thumbsup Any and all input is greatly appreciated!

The background is meant to resemble the app icon.

This is just to give a rough visual comparison. If people prefer it without background, then I can clean it up a bit better.

I think it depends on whether you want the icon to just be "flappy bird fan" in which case the background is (I think) a good tool for selling it as an "app" badge - or if you want it to reference something about the game, at which point just the bird is probably better.

Agree. By my measurement the bird is 17 px wide, push the rightmost dot one step to the left and you can represent it pixel by pixel, then do a tasteful dropshadow downwards.

I'm slightly biased towards making it into an app-specific microbadge just because I'm working on a series of app-based badges. It would fit into my series better with the background.

That said, owners of the badge aren't likely to care in the slightest whether or not the microbadge matches with other ones I design; so most importantly, I want whatever looks best on its own.

You're right. If I get rid of the background then I can crop in closer to the image and basically have a 1:1 pixel ration with the source image.

Agree with Ian - both are worthy submissions.
I'd say the door-less one, if for no other reason than that we have a bunch of "dungeon door" badges already, and I'm far less aware of any "dungeon hallway" badges.
