Today I got in a game of Caylus, it took probably an hour and a half to two hours to teach one of the guys, the other guy was getting frustrated. He kept saying wow ohhh when I would explain things for the third time... He's a total AP guy so I maybe shouldn't have been teaching him a new AP prone game...

Anyway it was clear the other two guys were going for gold, so I went ahead and pushed the game to end with the free Provost mover selection, plus I went first the last round so I selected the option that lets me build a Prestige building. I had a huge last turn with an a double Royal favor building, two last turn castle builds, and a bunch more points, but the other guy won out buying vp and for all the gold he had collected. Oh well. It was fun.

I'm not a fan of Caylus. It's not a terrible game, just not an exciting one. But then, I tend to trash over Euros and Card games over either one naturally...

I've been playing Legend of the Five Rings, Star Trek Deck Building Game: The Next Generation and Alien Frontiers lately and enjoying them immensely.

I heart the heavy Euros. I like games I can think about and reward the players that are invested and involved and play well.

Sounds like a pretty good game of Caylus.

I tend to think I prefer Magna Carta to full blown Caylus... but then I tend to prefer thematic games more than euros these days.

I played a couple of games of Shadow Hunters at our game group on Tuesday... a fun Hidden_Role/Hidden_Teams game that is very popular in several of the game groups I play with.

I have never played Caylus Magna Carta.

I might enjoy theme in board games sometimes, I mean I like the idea of playing as the bioterrorist in Pandemic on the brink, but for the most part I don't think about theme.

Really, everything I have read says On The Brink greatly enhances Pandemic. You are the first person I have read to criticize it.

I got introduced to Dixit this weekend. An interesting game, that.

A lot of its artwork causes raised eyebrows, however. Even the first syllable of the game's name gives pause.

Seditious words. This sounds like the beginnings of a revolution, and I for one, will not stand idly by…

Though I may be convinced to join such a rebellion, I would urge caution at this stage. As another thread points out, VGG is virtually unknown to the larger Geekdo community. We are but a backwater provincial outpost at the moment. Whatever military body BGG fields at this time (likely with the fearsome likes of

Instead, we should bide our time. Increase our numbers. Then we can stand a chance.

Oh, and be sure to have lots of dancing.

Because a revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having. mb

I played 2 games of SET yesterday, while waiting for all players to arrive.

Then I introduced 4 new people to RoboRally. Was a great game with only 1 board and 5 players, so much mayhem! We played a basic scenario to start with and after that we played the same board with the flags on other places and every player only 30 seconds to figure out which cards to play (as opposed to the standard: "last player has 30 secs more than the rest".
Great fun!

My wife and I tried ZombieTown for the first time yesterday. There's some expanded rules for 2 players, which were enjoyable. Very much an ameritrash game, though.

I am really looking forward to playing some RoboRally in the near future... I am currently waiting for some hand-printed boards to arrive from BGGer Aenea

of which there are a few I designed myself!

Me playing my most recent buy:

Star Trek Expeditions my first Star Trek board game.
Good enough and having solo play options is a plus.

Admit it, you knew I would find a way to bring Star Trek into this thread...
