The game is notable for being written in LBASIC, a language developed by Dar Systems that could be written-once and subsequently executed on Apple II, Macintosh, and IBM PC systems.
The game was written by Eric A. Seiden and Kris D. Medina; LBASIC was written by Eric A. Seiden and David A. Parisse.
The Gem of Zephyrr formed the basis of a 1987 self-published novel titled The Realm of Altair: The Gem of Zephyrr, by Eric A. Seiden.
