Battlefield 2 is a First-person Shooter (FPS) for the Windows platform set in the early 21st century. Gamers utilize modern weaponry and vehicles to frame a fictional war between the European Union (EU), the Middle-East Coalition (MEC), Russia, and the USA. Combat occurs in a variety of landscapes, including war-torn desert cities and temperate swamp villages.

Players (primarily) play online via Dedicated Servers on scalable maps that can incorporate anywhere from 16-64 players. This third game in the Battlefield series contributed an interesting gameplay twist with the addition of accumulated experience points garnered via online play-time and in-game successes that allowed players to "level-up" their soldiers via unlockable weapons and/or abilities.
